Great Video and very interesting costs of running !! I thought the WRX was expensive to run and I do all the work myself :) Single Number plate lamp fail on a multi lamp system is a Minor only these days "Changed in the Manual a few months back" Think all your cars and videos are a great watch and just thought you'd like to keep things accurate!! Thanks Craig
Also on a side note The E39 M5 i work on has a "Life Time Do Not Change" on the Manuel gearbox drain plug!! I've fitted a couple of clutch kits to the car but still has the factory oil ??
This engine was an epic highway km eater. I ve been doing 850 km trips and back in 24 hours with no tiredness issues. I regret selling it with only 35k miles . Throttle actuators was one common problem, had very sensitive electronics with frequent false errors, but man that sound...
Another excellent video... makes me appreciate my car a bit more, given that I’ve had a few bills on it over the 3 years I’ve had it! Great to see the transparency too and the total cost for what you’ve done to it... but... I’d love to know your ‘smiles per gallon’ numbers, they must be off the chart!!
Well done for being honest, I can see why you bought the car for content. In reality buying these old expensive money pits, makes no sense whatsoever. Especially with today's petrol prices, these types of cars become very unappealing, certainly not worth spending 5k on a respray or a Paint correction, just polishing a poo !
My F30 loves to bring the cruse control warning light on if you spend too long in reverse , I have no idea why ! Just turn off the car and back on and its fine .
For anyone with common sense, they should be aware that it’ll be a heavy cost to drive around in a older BMW with a V10. For anyone that’s able to afford it, they’ll definitely have loads of fun!
And in comparison I bought a brand new Skoda Octavia 1.5 tsi 1st edition brand new but pre registered for £17995.00 ran it for 15 months and 8000.00 miles and virtually got same amount back when I sold it to Skoda 😄
I remember when Jeremy, Richard and James bought super-cars for less than 10K, one of the challenges was doing an oil change and changing the spark plugs. Jeremy did the spark plugs first, then did the oil change, and he eventually paid for it with bits of the engine bouncing around. Moral of the story - change the oil first before doing the spark plugs.
That was just a very bad engine rebuild, not the service. The only downside to doing the oil last, is that there's a little more old oil left, but as the M5 in the video has 5 liters stuck in there and doesn't blow up after a service, it doesn't matter. Just takes longer to do it that way.
TBH I didn't think the costs were too bad. Scrap the paint stuff, get a cheaper insurance and it aint bad at all. Less than 3k for those preventative measures is a no brainer and nothing else was over the top. Except the petrol. But petrol heads don't talk about petrol so......
Or buy this car, once in a while there comes M cars to sale where the previous owner has just done all the preventative measures. Sure its little more expensive than the starting price M models but it will be cheaper in the long run.
So without the long term paint and PPF, it comes out to £1.11 per mile, before depreciation. That's insane. If you add in the long term maintenance, it comes out to £2.56 per mile over the 7k miles.
Er....other costs not included. Tyres? They've got to be a couple of hundred per corner and I bet it get's through a set every 10k miles. Depreciation? Or maybe 'appreciation'? I would expect a 2007 BMW estate would be on a downward price spiral but maybe there is a rarity value to this model that might make it gain value? And also, considering the amount of use it gets, there must be a cleaning bill, assuming you don't just go out with a bucket and sponge yourself.
Guessing he just hasn't had to replace the tyres since this is a "what I've actually spent" number but probably £1,000 for a decent set. 7k miles mean the rears must be due soon though if he hasn't done them, considering they've got 2 tonnes and 500hp trying to wreck them. Car value I'd imagine hasn't changed enough to note. Cleaning isn't something most people factor into car costs, but you could probably count the detail he's included...just spread that out over about 50 years to make it more realistic for a non-TH-cam car 😄
I miss my M5 every day, it was a low klm car in perfect condition and I should never have sold it. I have been looking to get another one but the ones out there for sale are not great example's.
This one is for anyone with BMW knowledge. My f30 318i has a sos call failing that is annoying since it won’t allow us to see how much fuel is there or mileage etc. It goes away sometimes but always returns. What should I do?
I know someone with a 5 series had this same fault. Turned out to be a control box in the boot, can't remember exactly what but wasn't cheap but they did go to bmw for it
It sounds like the TCU unit. Get it diagnosed by an indy with ISTA-D to confirm. TCUs can be repaired by MURA CAR ACCESSORIES in Romania. DHL there and back all for less than £200 but prices have gone up a bit.
in the next episode: SMG out, manual in. :) Please show all the details, as it is very rare to see E60 M5 conversions. So far I have seen 3 and 2 of those conversions were done my them.
7000 miles In 3 months is quite a lot. You drove that thing further in 3 months than I drove my Mazda 3 since I bought it in early 2020 :D. Covid did really, really strange things to average milages. That being said, had I driven 7000 miles, I would have needed about 1350€ worth of petrol at current price level in Germany. Well I suppose, the Beamer really is thirsty :D
I am sure you have had some meals in this car, you may as well add that plus the portion of mortgage allocated to your driveway/garage where this thing was parked. Lol
Engine oil change, Transmission oil change, Differential oil change, Spark plugs change, every 7000 miles? And the news about BMW charging a monthly subscription for heated seats these days? Never wanted a BMW anyways. lol

In the USA and changed to national brands, Ford and Jeep. BMW never again.
Really like the idea of doing costings as well
Every time that V10 does a revolution, a tear falls from an eco maniac's eye.
Great video, really enjoyed it.
Happier with my '09 Audi Q5 3.0 TDI Quatro that I paid AUD$17K for about 4 years ago. Far more economical to run and a nice car to drive!
It's gonna be getting the manual box installed!
ignore the miles, it only takes around 6 months for oil to break down. Plasticicers etc and the volatile elements of the oil start to break down. Even if u dont drive it. Thats a fact. Ignore mileage unless you are doing massive miles.
Great Video and very interesting costs of running !! I thought the WRX was expensive to run and I do all the work myself :)
Single Number plate lamp fail on a multi lamp system is a Minor only these days "Changed in the Manual a few months back" Think all your cars and videos are a great watch and just thought you'd like to keep things accurate!!
I think that if BMW provided a 4 wheel drive version of it , I would buy exactly that V10 without thinking a single second.
@@magicgeorgios nope and was not available
Check the flywheel sensor
Road tax on this car in Republic of Ireland (South) is almost 3k! Ye have it lucky lads!
How can you not like this video... nicely done !
For anyone with common sense, they should be aware that it’ll be a heavy cost to drive around in a older BMW with a V10.
For anyone that’s able to afford it, they’ll definitely have loads of fun!
You're only 28 holy moly!
I was looking for this comment 😂
IIRC, I've inherited a random CD in every used car I bought.
and in BMWs it takes a technician and a laptop to retrieve it. You feel so happy you put your last CD in and it is trapped for the next owner.
Alternate moral of the story - don't let Clarkson service your car
That was just a very bad engine rebuild, not the service. The only downside to doing the oil last, is that there's a little more old oil left, but as the M5 in the video has 5 liters stuck in there and doesn't blow up after a service, it doesn't matter. Just takes longer to do it that way.
The idea of dropping the oil 1st is it whilst the oil is still warm, therefore better flowing, makes no odds to reliability thereafter
well you just shatterd my dreams of owning one of the best all rounder cars. thanks
BMW Burns My Wallet.
Don't convert it to manual, boring. Slower gear changes, only 6 long gears and if you ever decide to de-restrict it, you'll never get close to 200mph.
literally everything you said is wrong
@@bobmarley2140 like to see you change gear in 65 milliseconds 🤣 so you loose 1 gear, now have 6, of course the gearing would be diffrent
@@Ben-xr7cg manual isn't boring and the 6 speed does still have a top speed of 205 as for shift speed yes faster
“I before E, except after C”
1:09 the music sux
So without the long term paint and PPF, it comes out to £1.11 per mile, before depreciation. That's insane. If you add in the long term maintenance, it comes out to £2.56 per mile over the 7k miles.
Can't wait to see that manual swap you teased and progress on the Connaught VR10 Miata
Near restoration
Used to love car's but these day's all car's are extremely expensive, what a time to be alive
To be fair, most people will probably do away with the ppf and do a diy polish and ceramic coat. That’s a whole load of money saved.
That’s what I do my car.
Way less that what you would spend in Italy (only road tax for a 500cv car is 4.000€ or more), then 7k miles in 3 months it's diesel territory.
I miss my M5 every day, it was a low klm car in perfect condition and I should never have sold it. I have been looking to get another one but the ones out there for sale are not great example's.
Great video and M5 content. Thank You
No it that amount wasnt "slowly" building up :) Seemed pretty fast to me :)
This one is for anyone with BMW knowledge. My f30 318i has a sos call failing that is annoying since it won’t allow us to see how much fuel is there or mileage etc. It goes away sometimes but always returns. What should I do?
Buy an Audi!
@@garycampbell7891 That made me chuckle.
This guy is every mechanics worst nightmare, the "while you're here can you look at this" after the mechanic has done the first job lol
Never wanted a BMW anyways. lol
Manual E61 M5... so excited for this!
But why add additional costs like painting, detailing and modification? I see major costs as insurance and fuel. 550 pounds for service is ok.
Stunning engineering ! Wouldn't have one given tbh.
If its eating platinum plugs like that, you should try the ruthenium plugs from NGK.
The number plate light would only be a minor defect since 2018.
1 is still working.
MrVanos is such cool/chilled guy
Jesus! That is an absolute wedge! I'll stick to my boring A4 Avant that costs me about £500 a year run all in.
Fuel included??
@@bwdrives yeah I run my bio diesel I make at no cost
It was clearly this dude that drilled that hole in the undertray you're slagging off 😂
It confirms the saying "nothing more expensive than a cheap BMW"
Soooooo sick that BMW has made a V10 family car 🔥🔥
Audi did too except theirs didn't have a habit of blowing up
