    Please do note: This is my honest opinion, and I bought the wheel... So it's just my experience! If you do disagree or want to add to the discussion with the wheel do post below and lets get a good discussion going :D!

    If you're watching this as of March 2019: Shift lights now work, shift numbers still MIA, 'Sen' setting can now be used on Auto and will match each car settings as far as I have tested

    This is the best wheel review ever, you've explained things in a very easy to understand manner. I've heard of load cells in pedals before - but never new what they meant or used for. The way you've explained it I understood it straight away. Thank you for this tidgney. You Da Man

    Nice review! Especially because i bought one a bit later than you did. Had the same issue with wheel rotation at 900° switching from gr4 to gr3. Solution to this is setting it at AUT on the wheel. This way the game changes the wheel rotation for you according to the car you currenlty drive.

    Great review ! Very precise and informative. I also jumped on the Fanatec deal last April because it was time for me to step up from my 8 years good old G27 that I've used in GT Sport with a CronusMax adapter. I was expecting great things with this new CSL Elite (with standard CSL Elite pedals, no load cell): on Assetto Corsa it's pure magic ! Lots of feedback and it's very very good ! On PCars 2, it's good but I didn't spent enough time with PCars 2 yet so I can't really judge.
    And on GT Sport, well I struggled hard to find a good setup for the wheel specially with that annoying understeer rattle effect. I tried so many setups from Fanatecs forums and of course GT Planet. First of, SEN must be at 054 (540°) on Gr3, it's indeed very weird like you said. Then it's frustrating to get less feedback when you have to turn down some of the Spring (Spr), Damper (Dpr), FEI or others settings otherwise you end up with a very noisy understeer rattle from the wheel. Assetto Corsa does not suffer from that problem as a comparaison... I finally found a good setup for GT Sport (not perfect: lacks a bit of feel in my opinion and I can't be consistent in my laps like I was with G27) and I just hope Polyphony will improve the feel for the CSL Elite. Here are my settings: SEN: 0540 / FF: 100 / SHock: 100 / Abs: 100 / Drift: -02 / Force: 050 / Spring: 050 / Damper: 050 / FEI: 070 / Ingame: FF 7 & Sensitivity 10
    Although one strong point with the CSL Elite on GT Sport: I felt a lot more precise than my G27. Even my dad who's watching me compete in the FIA races noticed that. I destroyed my old lap record I've made with the G27 specially on Suzuka with the BMW M4 GT4 and the Porsche 911 RSR.
    As for the comfort of holding the wheel in your hands, I've got to agree. Somehow the G27 rim felt better. I'm thinking of upgrading the CSL Elite rim to a Mclaren GT3 rim or something else from the Fanatec range. Also If I get the Mclaren rim, the paddle shift are closer so it could sort two problems in one. But yea 180€ for a rim is really expensive.
    Would I recommend anyone to get a CSL Elite ? OF COURSE ! To me it's sort of the spiritual successor of the G27 but it's like a top notch vastly improved G27. But, first you should always ask yourself what are you going to do with this new wheel and which game are you gonna play. If you only play GT Sport, I suggest to wait a for a full compatibility with this game before buying it. It's a major drawback for me to think I've emptied my bank account (sort of) and I don't get the full potential of the wheel in GT Sport, the main game I play. Fortunately Assetto Corsa was there to comfort me after the mediocre feel of GT Sport.
    Conclusion: I will definitely keep that wheel for as many years as possible and I'm gonna improve my standard CSL pedals to the extremely realistic (and expensive) Clubsport V3 inverted and get a H shifter. Yes, the entire package is really really expensive, but I think that way: it's a solid high quality product that is meant to last and it will hold it's value better than Logitech or Thrustmaster wheels so if I want a newer wheel in like 2025, I will get at least half of my money back.
    I hope my comment was helpful to anyone, sorry it was a bit long to read. Thank you very much for your review Tidgney and I'll see you in your next video (or maybe on the track :) )

    • @tidgney
      @tidgney  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Really big thanks for this post, really great contribution! Ye the settings are weird and I don't quite get it personally hopefully it's fixed soon... I kinda mentioned precision a little bit as you say you can definitely be more precise with this wheel vs others due to the larger diameter (I'm pretty sure it's this).
      The feeling is so bizarre, so I'm glad you agree and it's not just me haha!
      Got to agree that if it's just for GT definitely don't get the wheel, if you play other games then there's potential. Good luck with your future purchases as that sounds like a cracking setup you've got planned! Hopefully this comment does help people, great job :D!

    Thanks for this review. You have made some very good points regarding the load-cell which I hadn't considered. Other reviewers say the load-cell is just superior and you should get one if you can afford it. There is little discussion regarding competitions and the fact that there are many top level console racers out there that do not use load-cells and are still superfast (because of the reasons you give over competition setups)
    I can't help thinking that I want the load-cell but know deep down it probably won't actually make me much quicker, it will make the braking feel a little more realistic though. And as someone who drives quite a lot in real life (not racing) maybe that realistic feel will be easier to get consistent with
    Great video again - thanks

    Finally good to see you post a video again! Where you been, stranger :). I have but one favor to ask. Can you please consider doing a lap time comparison between a wheel and the controller for gt sport, preferably on a track you're really good at? Only because I couldn't help but notice you mentioned in your vlog at Nurburing that you mentioned you used to race on a controller and would like to confirm you can be competitive on a controller with gt sport. please please please please. Just for one track you're really good at.

      Cheers mate :D! Sorry I've been so busy with work, recovering from illness and all sorts! To be fair I haven't used a controller in racing since 2011 so my times will be considerably faster on a wheel. BUT, as I mentioned in that video and also I'll mentioned in a future video 2 guys in Germany at the event were pad players and race competitively throughout GT Sport :)!

      I'm happy to hear that, though 2 out of 24? isn't a great ratio, lol. That's fair. I might end up buying a wheel for Assetto Corsa Competizione anyways.

    Hi Tidge, been watching a few of your vids recently as I’m a retuning mature sim racer, I know this is an old video now and everyone seems to be rocking direct drive fodder nowadays but as I’m on a tight budget would you say the old elite is still the best non direct drive setup especially used? I’ve dabbled with Thrustmaster and Logitech stuff and currently using a G29 but the cogging drives me mad and although as mentioned I’m on a tight budget I’m looking out for either a T300 or Elite to replace it without having to spend huge money going the dd route. My rig is capable a nice used Trak Racer TR8 hence I feel something better than the G29 is required. Cheers Nick

      @tidgney  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Nick!
      Sorry for the delay responding. It was a great wheel when I used it that is for sure, but for me in your situation it's definitely one where I would just wait and try to save that bit more for the direct drive. For me the jump from G29 to CSL Elite isn't worth the price increase as much as it frustrates you (Unless you can get it cheaper). Save that bit extra and if it's for Gran Turismo get the Fanatec DD Pro. For PC only Moza offer some great variations for good prices.

    Great video, you provide your unique perspective as always, and I'm sure this will be a popular one. I wanted to add one thing regarding your settings: When you are providing your values within the rim itself (Sen, FF, Sho, etc...) there should be a Brf selection when you have the Load Cell attached to your set. This is Brake Force, and it is a metric for what percentage one must depress the pedal to reach 100% brake pressure (I believe, someone will correct me if I am wrong I'm sure). Did you record these settings when you were practicing for your GT event (thus didn't have the Load Cell attached)? Typically, depending on rig mounting, personal preference, etc...this Brf value is typically around 30-50 (I use 30 as my pedals are not mounted). Just wanted to point this out for those who ultimately buy the LC for this wheel base and see this option.
    I imagine you won't be doing S10 GT3 at AOR given your GT commitments, hope I'm wrong (Ferrari is banned!), but will miss watching you race there.
    Best,
    Drew (PhishHead @ Apex)

    • @tidgney
      @tidgney  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahhh yes I remember that setting, to be honest I just look for settings as I'm not the best setting stuff up, likewise with car setups which is why I used default in AOR haha :D! I didn't record those settings unfortunately, I really wish I wrote those settings down to be honest with you! I know there was some movement in distance with the brake with the load cell but it felt pretty decent on whatever option I had it on. Good to point out though to other people :)!
      I really want to do S10 at AOR but I really have to wait to see the race calendar for GT first. Originally GT had wednesday off which was brilliant then race 8 or 9 I think it was in AOR S9 they changed it to Wednesdays and Saturdays so was doing both which is a bit of a killer to be honest! Come home, do 1 GT race, do AOR S9 then do the other GT Race I couldn't do that again. I enjoyed AOR and I'd like to put a bit more effort into it so I'm hoping GT pick something like Thursday and Sunday or something, that would benefit me far more haha! Good luck if you're racing Season 10 though :)!

  • @oktc68
    @oktc68 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Premium product? Entry level. The quality of the FFB in the games referenced here don't allow you to make an informed judgment of any wheel. Wheel size, large wheels provide more leverage, that's it. Old cars without power steering had large wheels, modern sports cars/race cars not so much. Toxic wheel? Non hypoallergenic? Shouldn't have to wear gloves with a non direct drive wheelbase. Self assembly pedals albeit very good ones. Anyone thinking of buying this should consider the T300 or TX for Xbox/PC and if you're serious about racing get a PC. The mounting setup for the CSL is far from ideal if you use 2 holes it will wobble. Load cells allow you to develop muscle memory, like a real car. It's very easy to learn that's why it's used in real cars (muscle memory not load cell) if you drive an actual car, you'll pick it up instantly.

    • @tidgney
      @tidgney  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that's one of the big things, the G29 especially on Gran Turismo because it's been calibrated properly in the game is a bloody good wheel for the price, especially for GT! If anything I would say pedals are the bigger performance difference on any wheel than the actual wheel itself (Aslongs it's got force feedback ofc)

      It comes with a clamp, annoyingly I think I missed it off the clip, doh! Definitely comes with a clamp though but again you'd need to make sure it fits as there's a require thickness for it to work (Another reason why I had to modify mine to fit as plate on my rig wasn't thick enough)

    Hey Tigney really enjoyed your insights on the wheel, altough this wheel is far off my budget. I'm planning on getting a starter wheel, so I have a question which one should I get a T150 or a G29. If I get a T150 I can upgrade to T3PA. And there is quite a difference in price with the two

    • @TobRacer
      @TobRacer 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my opinion, get the G29. Thrustmaster wheels are known to brake down while Logitech wheels are very solid. And I think you get more feedback from this wheel than the T150. I had a G27 for 8 years and it never broke down.
      And if you get the G29, get the NIXIM brake mod. It improve the braking by miles ;)

      Hey Mate, Cheers :D! Out of the 2 I'd still personally get a g29 due to reliability to be honest. I've lost a lot of confidence in Thrustmaster lately, I mean having 6 different problems with a T300 that I've had is insane, so I'd expect similar reliability issues in a cheaper wheel as that's the problem with the T300, they cheaped out :O! So personally out of the T150 and g29, definitely g29 (Especially if you can get the bargain sale that occasionally happens)

      Hey, I just bought the G29 and am returning it straight away as I feel one has to fight to get a good lap time versus the T300.. How is the build quality? Noisy (G29 sounds like an engine when you move the wheel)?

      @@MrSlicer0007 I've owned 2 G27s and I'm on my second T300. Had the first T300 for 3 yrs and sold it when I stopped racing for a year.
      The T300 wheelbase definitely feels more premium than the G27/G29 but doubt it would help lap times. The G29 pedals however are much better than the T3PA pedals in build and feel. You would need to get the Pro pedals to upgrade over the G29s, and the pedals are probably make more of an impact on lap times than a wheel imo.
      The T300 is fairly quiet, non of the gear rattling you get with G27. Tough choice picking a wheel set. I'm strongly considering getting the CSL Elite wheel to go with the pedals I already have. Just hope the wheel is at least a bit of an upgrade over the T300 but hear that it's actually noisier than the T300.

      @@JoeD-zo4sm Yeah, I've read that rumble strips & other terrain activates a certain vibration that will cause the wheel to violently jitter as if the thing was trying to push out a baby! I've also heard the fans like to kick in on high as the inners begin to heat up, that happening rather soon too. The CSL Elite is probs the best wheel for PlayStation at the moment (Which kind of says a lot about the wheel market, not being cheap).. From watching videos on just how smooth the Elite is, and comparing that against the 300, it's definitely a solid upgrade.. Wish I could pull the trigger and skip the progressive wheel purchases and just go right to the top, but then of course I need the missing Play Seat, triple monitor stand, and pistons suspension...
      That's awesome knowing the 300 runs quieter as that's a must for late night racing.. Unfortunately the G29 runs too loud for me.. Looking forward to the smoothness of the T300 for sure.. Did you give any special treatment to your T300 to get it to last so long?

      It is a gamble. I would argue that it will. Its fairly new wheel going into new generation.
      Good thing about it is that if it won't its compatible with pc and Xbox. If Sony does something funny and makes it obsolete I will get a pc or Xbox ;)

    Great review, I'm about to embark on my sim racing adventure after spending hours at a friends rig set up ( thrust master wheel with omega seat set up on PC )
    I've decided that Fanatec is for me to use both PS& x box for GT and forza respectfully.
    How hard is it to set up the load cell 3peddle set up? I'm thinking of getting the "playseat evolution" alcantara seat. Supposed to be compatible with Fanatec. If anyone has done a set up like this please let me know your experience with it. 😉

      @@MorfiusRacing good choice. It served me well for 5 years. Week ago I plugged it in and it went crazy...keeps spinning instead of calibrating and then stopping as it should.
      Tried reinstalling the firmware but pc is not detecting it anymore either.
      Crazy thing is that it worked fine when I was finishing my last session and cant use it after starting next session.
      That's why I'm here. After 5 years of t300rs I deserve a treat ;)

      Looks like the current upgrade changed that in part. Not with the LEDs but with the light in the rim.
