So I have a 2022, every since I owned it when I brake There was a thump coming from the rear that you could hear and feel. I took it the other day and they checked it, since then I have no thump. Could this be from those nuts not being torqued down? I saw another guy comment that he did his himself and it didn't seem like the factory had it torqued to 41. This is frustrating cause the 3 times I took it in for service I told them about the noise and they just blew me off.
The rear axle recall on 22/ 23 Tacoma's is no big deal and rendered easily if your truck has the issue . I did my Tacoma a month ago and it took a few minutes more because I insisted to see the potential problem when my truck was on the lift .just a spec of welding splatter which was chiseled off and quickly sanded smooth and I was off and running . seems people on social media channels get too involved to make there videos a hit...................
Just took our 2023 Tacoma in for recall at dealership. Unfortunately mine needs more work than just filing and new nut. They are doing way more work than i expected...between ordering new parts and doing the work I have a rental for over a week. They showed me the damaged threads but I'm no mechanic....not thrilled about any of this repair!!!
Maybe the parts are on backorder. That's probably why they're keeping it over a week. It's a good thing you brought the truck in for the recall, especially since you said the threads were already damaged.
Thanks bruv. Great video. Liked AND subscribed! Have you seen any Tacoma engine mounts failing and cracking at low miles? I’ve got a ‘23 TRD Sport and I’ve had both sides replaced. First was the driver’s side mount at 3,500 miles and then the passenger side at 7,700 miles. When the tech did the passenger side he wrote that he noticed substantial cracking on the replaced driver’s side engine mount and now at 9,400 miles I’m hearing the same squeaking and creaking again, back from the driver’s side. I’m going to have them replace the pair instead of one at a time but I can’t keep spending a day at the dealership every 3,500 miles! Does this affect anyone other than me?!
@@michaelgutierrez6743 If it’s similar to my situation you would HEAR it. It’s a progressively louder squeaking/creaking while doing nothing other than driving over normal asphalt roads and parking lots. I thought it must’ve been some suspension component and I tried again and again to locate it but it was coming from behind the wheel well. Finally took it in and I had the service writer ride with me around the dealer lot. He heard it right away. The dealer tech found the issue right away. I had the impression that he had seen it before. Engine mount driver’s side was worn, torn and cracking with around 3,000 miles on the truck. They replaced it and it was silent for weeks until a similar but less loud squeaking/creaking started again. The next visit to the dealer has the tech identify the passenger side engine mount as the cause for the new noise. They changed it and the problem was resolved. However… the tech pointed out that the (very recently replaced) driver’s side engine mount was cracking and showing wear. The squeaking has started again on the driver’s side.
I asked my local dealership twice about this once at 20k miles and again today at 25k miles and they told me there’s no recall and they will not check out my 2022 Tacoma sport for this issue I got under my truck and 4 of the 8 nuts were loose two on each side so I snuggled them up I don’t want to void my extended warranty by messing with my truck so I don’t know what to do this is my first new vehicle and only Toyota I’ve owned love the truck not loving deal with Toyota this isn’t my only issue I’ve had dealing with Toyota they blow me off ever time I all ways bring them a clean vehicle to work on and I try to be very nice about my concerns is there a Toyota bulletin that I can show them to check my truck ?
Torque values are for a specific reason. If anything should happen that could involve work performed, the fact that the reinstalled nuts were OVER-TORQUED is a disregard to written or verbal instructions. I would not want a mechanic to decide to disregard instructions provided by the manufacturer.
@JetSkiSuper7 no he's correct... it's called OVER torquing which can cause the stud to snap... just like the welders decides to UNDER do their splatter shields that caused this problem... torque values aren't a suggestion
TOYOTA'S THAT ARE NOT MADE IN JAPAN NEEDS EVERYDAY ATTENTION. DO YOUR INSPECTION AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK TO MAKE SURE THINGS ARE STILL ATTACHED, HEATER HOSE CLAMPS ARE INSTALLED ETC.,(MY 21 BRAND NEW TACO CAME WITHOUT A CLAMP)
Thanks! I was scheduled to go have this checked out tomorrow and be without the truck for the day. This is an easy DIY and beyond that, I will use blue loctite on those studs as it makes no sense not to have threadlocker there.
thanks for this... i thought it was the drive shaft to diff bolts.... ill be doin this in my driveway for sure
So I personally did mine today, 41 ft lbs felt like a lot, they weren’t even close to that from the factory felt like 25
Thanks for the information my going in for the same check done sometime next week
Very good!! Very informative.

MADE IN MEXICO!

I went to Toyota, they check for welding spots, none found, they retighten the nuts. All done.
Nice!
how long did it take? I'm going to take mine in tomorrow.
Does the vehicle need to be jacked up for this? I doubt it right if your doing one nut at a time
No, it doesn't need to be jacked up since you'll be checking the nuts one at a time
Looks like no rust. Must not live in New England

Relax, you are wrong.

If it calls for 41 ft lbs and i set my meter to 42-43 ft lbs, that will not happen.
Maybe if i doubled the torque specs, that could happen. But 1-2 lbs over will not do that to the studs.
over torquing stretches the threads...and weakens the assembly ,
which is worse than under tightening the bolt

That's true. The ones made in Japan are built really well.
Thanks! I was scheduled to go have this checked out tomorrow and be without the truck for the day. This is an easy DIY and beyond that, I will use blue loctite on those studs as it makes no sense not to have threadlocker there.
Now I need to find out how to stop getting notifications of the notice on my trucks infotainment screen as I’ve been getting them for the last 3 days.
