in my opinion, the problem is not Toyota not approving the Warrant, but their response. Blaming the speed or saying the customer was traveling @85mph and later mentioning the tires. It just doesn't make any sense and sends a message that Toyota doesn't even care about these incidents.
Great to have insight from an actual dealership technician, and an MDT at that. About a year ago my dealership had a GR Corolla, barely past 700 miles, where the owner was experiencing a misfire on one of the cylinders, and we were able to see the stored data that the engine had been over revved past red line, at almost 9k. The car ended up needing a brand new engine, because a piston had hit a valve in one of the cylinders. Luckily for the owner, all of this was done before he had bought the car, none of it was his fault. Probably fault of a salesman or test driver. The car was bought back from him and sold at an auction. Hopefully this all gives more insight to people of what they’re getting into when they buy one of these new cars.
Besides the fire, there are shit tons of other problems with the car. How did you know the car was modded? Who says tire sport 4s are rated at 85mph when in fact is 186mph. People need to stop kissing toyotas butt. If I pay 47k for a car that is displayed and sold as a sport car, tell me which car now days is capped at 85mph? Not even old 79s cars are capped at such speeds. I own a GR Supra and GR Corolla CE, NO ONE can tell me warranty is going to be void over driving 85mph, even master technicians are against this BS. Again, stop kissing toyota butt, especially in the USA, they just after peoples money and no experience quality on the product people are buying, especially sport cars that cimes with a track license/pass!!!
