Just made this recipe tonight (and everyone in my household loved it!) As a tip for people planning to make this, you should definitely check your blueberries first that they aren’t too tart and if they are I would for sure recommend lessening the amount of lemon juice in the recipe. Thanks for the video John it was extremely helpful!
I made a blueberry pie today also, shared it with my downstairs elderly neighbor, he's got a sweet tooth like I do (I'm 49 and I still have my sweet tooth). It wasn't this recipe I made today though, I'm gonna make this recipe next time, I bet he'll really like this one. The one I made today is pretty good, but this one will be even better I'm sure

I'm glad you make a ton of pie recipes. The crust to me is just as important as the filling. And you are the only one I can find that makes it look so good. I tried it and mine shrank like crazy, so thanks for the comment about not stretching the crust.
I’m terrible at cooking and i legit know five recipes by heart until i found out about preppy kichen! Seriously, counting down the days for when your book comes out love every recipe and you explain it so simply, I’m just in awe. ❤
First time viewer, and just in time. My wife's favorite pies are blueberry ones, and it's Mother's Day, so I'm surprising her. Followed this recipe to the letter, and it's in the oven now. So excited to have it tonight. With the leftover dough, I cut them into strips, pressed the strips into sugar, twisted them like bread twists, then topped with parmesan cheese!
I will try this recipe next time I make a blueberry pie. I made one today but it wasn't this one, it's what inspired me to check out a recipe made from scratch though. The one I made today wasn't from scratch, I used canned blueberry pie filling a store bought pre-made pie crust. It's not bad though. But I'm gonna see how good this recipe is next time.

thanks John, just saw this left open on our laptop, so I know you likely helped my sweetheart and our boys make the wonderful blueberry pie surprise this past Thanksgiving. I lost my mother in 2015 & blueberry pie was a special treat she made just for me. It was nuice to have a wonderful memory bring joy with tears, finally. I thank you for helping my family surpirse me; they did a great job, it was a beautiful pie and it was delicious too, almost as good as my mother's. (& p.s. my Mom called aluminum foil 'tin foil' also) Happy Hoidays to all.

The first time I made this it tasted like medicine. I hadn’t gotten enough blueberries so half the blueberries sat way too long in lemon juice before baking while I went to buy more. Nervous to try it again, even though it was my mistake. Have you tried it without lemon? I was thinking about using only 1/2 or only using zest. Thoughts? The crust was amazing though.

Y’all I made this it was so easy and tuned out perfect! It was my very first time making anything remotely like pie so I was afraid but this recipe turned out amazing I strongly recommend using it. I am by absolutely no means a professional baker in fact i barely have any experience so take this as a sign to try out this recipe! Tbh everything I’ve made from this channel always comes out perfect it’s so crazy, guess he’s just that good!

I have FINALLY found the best pie crust and blueberry pie recipe (my husband's favorite). This pie crust is the best, by far. It's easier, more manageable, and tastes incredible. I usually don't part but it looked so good I did and it was fabulous. Thank you, I'm moving on to your "Strawberry Pie" recipe. I am now a true fan.
Whenever my mother baked pies she ALWAYS had left over dough. She would roll that into a rectangle and cut strips the long way, about 1 inch or so wide. Then she'd slather melted butter on top of the dough and liberally sprinkle that with a cinnamon sugar mix (used for cinnamon toast, too). She'd roll the strips, brush them with egg wash, and bake them. While the pies were baking and and then cooling, my sisters and I were given these treats to snack on.

This is by far my favorite TH-cam channel. Admittedly I will never attempt half these recipes, but there is something so soothing and relaxing about them.
Blueberry pie is the hands-down summertime favorite dessert of both our sons. After literally years of trying to tweak my grandmother's blueberry pie recipe with varying results - I'm bit of a perfectionist when it come to baking - I used cornstarch instead of flour as a thickdning agent, took the time to make the open lattice crust and so some steam could escape from the berries while cooking, and used the two temp method - all following's John recommendations😊. Success! No burned crust edges, yet a filling that was not runny.😊

Omg, you make it just like me! The lemon, the corn starch...even the tin foil. I also start at a high oven temp, then turn down. I do put a smidge of cinnamon in the mix, just cause. So good, fresh and summery, I think I'll make one now! Thanks, your great.
I’m making this tonight by hand, and without completely frozen butter😍😂wish me luck 😬 Edit: I did the dough and it worked well, just a little stickier than his because my butter was softer. I just used a whisk and then my hands lol, for anyone wondering. Almost time to do the filling I’m fricken excited 😂

I'm up to apple number 3 completed. Apple 1 looked awful tasted good. Apple 2 went to my sister. Made her happy. Apple 3 is half in the fridge, I'm wearing the other half. It's all mine. This one was really nice out of the oven, golden brown. I'll be buying a food processor. I wasreally tired of expensive store bought crap, These aren't cheap, but they are delicious.

As a little girl my favorite days were mom's pie making days. She made a bunch and froze them. What fascinated me was the way she cut off the extra crust. She held the pan aloft and using a knife that had belonged to her grandfather he rotated the pan and cut away. With whatever dough was left she allowed my sister and I to make what we called Bumble Bees, cinnamon sugar sprinkled over the crust and rolled up. now when I make my pies those memories come flooding back and I have to smile.
Thank you my wife had to pick up a job also so I take on the cooking duties and this helps me. I really enjoy baking for my kids!

Oh, my I inherited my grandma's pie pans and they are ceramic. Would that change cooking time? I'd love to my grandma back though.
I have thick ceramic deep dish pie plates, and I just bake the pies on the lower rack and haven’t had any issues. I once bake a pie on the second from the bottom rack, and the crust didn’t properly cook :/

I have watched so many TH-camrs wh bake and John is by far the best one I have seen in years. It is not only the bakes but the way he interacts with his audience, he is a real breath of fresh air! I have tried so many of his recipes during the lockdown, I am at least 5 kg heavier. But who cares the bakes are so good!
