I'm a workaholic. So is my husband. We live a pretty stress free life and are able to help others out. We don't have financial stress or burdens. We hardly ever fight and when we do, it's short, to the point, and over with. We're not CEOs or anything close.
My advice to any workaholic is this. Find a job you enjoy doing. Then you'll never work a day in your life. It doesn't have to be a big fancy job. Just something you enjoy doing. And make sure it's an hourly job. Lol.

This confuses working "a lot" with working compulsively / addicted to work / workaholism. Different things. Addiction/Compulsion describes the relationship to the thing in question, such that it is negatively affecting one's life

this sounds like it was made by a middle-manager trying to cover up his own issues and shifting blame to other people...

@@korratheaustralianshepherd5804 Ah, I see what you are getting at. Of course I do not mean or condone that, and wish I was more specific
My point is not "Let's all work a lot but in a healthy way," but that one can actually work not "a lot" and *still* have a compulsive relationship / addiction to it
For comparison, consider how some compulsively drink alcohol, even if only a drink or two every night rather than bingeing

Totally agree with your statement though. We can work hard, but we can also work smart and do it to the skillsets we're gifted to alleviate workplace burnout

I am feeling the same.I always like improving my business & taking care of myself, making new connections with other ambitious people around the globe.Fact is,I am starting to walk away from my current friends & family because our worlds don't collide anymore, and I am asking,is this a good thing ? To leave your friends & family beside to chase your passion ? What if you end up a huge success, but with noone to talk to ?

Effects on spouse and children are the same regardless of engagement/enjoyment of the work

Gotta love that the video doesn't explain what makes a person "engaged" vs "not engaged" in their work. If you can find full time work in a field that you like then you're lucky. As for the rest of us, we have to decide how far we're willing to go to beg for the dollar that just barely puts bread on the table. When we don't feel happy or right about it, we tell ourselves to be grateful to have work at all, because work is a privilege, and so we just get back to the grind that brings us nothing but security until it's all we care about. Many of us don't have a choice but to work the first shitty job we can find just to survive.
So please, tell me how my dependency on shutting my brain off and reminding myself that there are people dying in the streets from an infectious disease right now is actually a good thing for me. I guess if I don't like it I can just find a better job, right?

i work because i have been unable to find meaningful social circles and things that bring me more joy than working. My work is a consultant so it is challenging meaningful and always appreciated....that in large part is the key to its enjoyment. it is hard to find that fulfillment in social life with people nowadays...i am an extrovert so i enjoy being social.

I know exactly what you mean. I also have the feeling that social activities give less satisfaction than the joy of working, so I work about 80 hours per week

It makes perfect sense to me. Working is The most rewarding thing to do but after work hours it has to be voluntary instead of being forced to.

I’m going through this now. I’m working 80 hours a week so that I can ignore my social anxiety. Nobody gives a shit about me at work. My job has too much downtime and I assume the worse out of my coworkers even if they seemingly have good intentions.

Only occurs in capitalist society. If you are justly compensated it's rewarding. Working just to be working with no validation is slavery/socialism. Ask the North Koreans what percent consider themselves to be workaholic.

    • @prody666
      @prody666 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Badass Mother slavery is not socialism. On contrary, socialist policies allow people to gain enough by having a full time job and keeping a balance between work and personal / family life. This is what makes the difference between Europe and the US. North Korea is a gruesome dictatorship, it has nothing to do with socialism. In your comment, you consider workaholism to be positive. It is not. Indeed, it occurs in capitalist societies, where productivity comes before everything and people are used and abused by corporations and banks.

@@prody666 Some people need to keep busy. If they make money working and are allowed to accumulate wealth being a workaholic is good. You want to be a lazy person go ahead. Some of us prefer to be busy and productive, hopefully to the benefit of our children. We put in the long hours so we can afford help when were old and can't work. If you're expecting the government to care for you you're kidding yourself.
