Thank you!! I covered some athleisure in my activewear pattern roundup, but I'd love to expand into athleisure. Feels like it would be perfect for an autumn video with some cosy designs
Thanks Steph! Super helpful, especially the Funki Fabrics examples for someone living in Europe! I’ll definitely try them at some point! From the EU I can recommend Extremtextil. I was ready to move to the US before finding them. Extremtextil will send you up to five fabric examples free of charge, so you don’t have to order blind. I found some midweight Lycra (“bike jersey”), which turned out exactly what I needed: squat proof, matte and soft to touch. It also had 6-7 different colors (and not only all the shades of black but actual colors 😂). I already sewed the Greenstyle Super G tights in that fabric, and they turned out perfect! I also ordered some lightweight fabrics for running shorts and loose shirts.
This was such a great video! Thanks for the thorough reviews/reccs. I haven't done much activewear sewing aside from a couple swimsuits (which tbh were very questionable finishes. LOL) but it's something I would like to do...and knowing that poly-spandex vs nylon spandex difference is really helpful and totally makes sense. I'm big on bright and fun prints and patterns so funki fabrics looks amazing! Also congrats on the engagement!
Fabulous video Steph. I started down the Funki fabric wormhole and that was fun. Is there a sub strat that you would recommend for a DVF wrap dress? They have such amazing choices of patterns I am sure I could make a fabulous dress.
Thanks for a really well put together and informative series. I’m just starting to sew some active and swimwear so this has been so useful. Can I just ask about what you use/recommend as lining fabric for tops and swimwear? Do you use the same fabric or have you found a particular lining fabric - I’ve tried looking but not sure on what might be best. Thanks again for the information and congratulations on your engagement! ☺️
Thank you Lorna! So for swim, I often make reversible swimwear, so I am using swim fabric for both the outer and "lining". However, for non-reversible swimwear, I would buy a swim specific lining. For activewear, I use Meryl from Funki Fabrics. If you tell me what country you're based in, I'm happy to recommend some sources?
Ugh that is so annoying! I've had a check on the Etsy suppliers listed, and shipping cost is annoying, but might be worth it (and is much lower than the US and UK suppliers). You'd still come in at
Congratulations!! Don't let him take you away from us...
Thank you! Don't worry- he is very supportive (if anything, I think he wants to make more video appearances 😂)
Congratulations to both you and your friend!
Congrats on your engagement!! Love your videos. I’d love to see your take on an “athleisure patterns roundup”. ❤

Congrats on your engagement. I made my first workout skirt using the Greenstyle duet pattern.
Such a cute design! Do you recommend it?

@@StephSewn I’m in the UK so will check out Funki Fabrics. Thank you for response and any other recommendations you have.
Congrats. I missed your videos.
Thank you! More to come- I'm really excited to be back 💕
Congratulations 🎉
Jealous of the activewear fabrics that are available overseas 😭 limited options here in New Zealand
