So exciting to see these patterns safely arrived on the other side of the world - I know they have found the perfect home with you 😊 Love all the ideas you shared - the fabric pairings are very well-considered, I love the embroidered fabric for the poncho blouse! Happy sewing, and I'm looking forward to seeing the finished results 😍❤️
Hi Steph, one of my subscribers mentioned you just now and thought I’d jump on and see …. How lucky was I that I put on your latest and a fellow kiwi sent you so awesome vintage patterns. Very Jelly!! Love 1524… it reminds me of a top in Ms Monroe wore in a pic I have. Love it. Loving 6562 the full skirt is so gorgeous 1176. Swear I have that one Ohh definitely have style 1972 and that cotton muslin will look STUNNING. Loved watching… and congratulations on getting this lovely gifting of the patterns. 💕🦩💖
My mom made all my clothes when I was a young girl in the 70s. The knit fabrics she used were mostly quite thick and stable. If you are ever having a creative block, I think doing a video going over a handful (or more!) of your vintage patterns would make a wonderful playlist! You could do just one video whenever you felt like it, and add it to the playlist. I would love it!
Thank you to your amazing New Zealand subscriber for sending you a treasure trove of vintage sewing patterns. I cannot wait to see your spring makes with those very inspiring patterns. I love that folksy pigeon print and the embroidered gauze. Real beauties! You will have sewing inspiration forever more! Have fun!
As someone who lives in New Zealand and used to work in a thrift store, we did not receive an abundance of sewing patterns. We only got donated them twice in the two years I worked there. I think the store she was donating to was being a bit mean. Some people think that people don't sew anymore.
I live in NZ too. I have so many vintage patterns from opshops. Some have now put the price up to $3 per pattern but I usually get them for $1. I go regularly to opshops to make sure I get the best picks whenever they get donation.
I live in NZ also and am sooo disappointed that we did not get the opportunity to buy these patterns! I always look in op shops for patterns and hardly ever see any 😢 I am horrified at this op shop for turning her away. So shortsighted.
Congrats, Steph, That's quite the haul. What a gift! Your fabric choices are fabulous. Given how precious they are, I'd recommend you make a toile for each pattern before cutting into your fashion fabric. Though it's a drag on time, it's best to eliminate the surprises while you can. Also, though just my opinion, I'm not sure the orange terry is going to work for your 70's style jacket. You might be safer going with a med-weight crepe or even a poplin. I love the terry cloth, but I think the fabrication will be too bulky for the color and cuffs. I'll be on the lookout for the video(s) where you show your finished products. Good luck with your makes!
Thank you for sharing your vintage haul and sewing ideas. I love that knit pigeon fabric. If you use it for that raglan sleeve pattern the pigeons will be upside down on the front of the sleeves. You might want to save that fabric for another design. Thank you again for your videos.
What an incredible collection you have now! I love vintage patterns but sadly the sizing doesn't often work for me anymore. Your pairings of the designs with vintage and vintage-style fabrics are carefully considered and I can visualize the fabulous outfits you'll create. I'll be curious to hear how your sewing experience with the construction and instructions goes. I'm looking forward to seeing these made up and more from styles as you sew through them. Thanks for sharing!
What a fantastic collection of patterns! I'm intrigued by the first dress and how it will sit on the body as you move around when the sleeve is cut in one with the back. It would be fun to see an update on what worked and what you might want to change if you chose to sew up the patterns again.
Thanks for sharing. It’s great that you don’t follow the latest trends but follow your genuine desires and thrills when it comes to fashion. One of the reasons I started sewing - and sometimes designing too, my own clothes was the love of originality and creativity that came from me and not fashion magazines, shops or celebs. My ample stash of fabrics comes from world wide shops, charity shops, repurposed items (bed covered, muslin curtains) and finds from my mothers trunks, some 70s and 80s vintage. I need to start an instagram!!
As a sewer in New Zealand the abundance of vintage patterns in opshops (thrift shops) has saved me a lot of money but I do worry about the patterns I leave behind!
That's exactly how I ended up with well over a thousand vintage patterns taking over my sewing room - I couldn't bear to leave them behind in case they ended up in the op shop's skip bin 😅. I'm so glad I was able to send all these ones to a new loving home 😊
Thanks so much for the video, Steph. I have two suggestions for upcoming videos. Suggestion #1. If you were stuck on an island and you could only have a limited amount of patterns. What patterns would you take, and how many patters would you take? Suggestion #2: if you have never made a garment and live in a location that didn't have any in-person training, where would you get your online training? Again, thanks so much for the video.

How exciting 😍! Another American sewist here living in London, also obsessed with vintage patterns. Great selection and fabric choices ❤.
Thank you! Where are you from? I'm from PA 💕

Good point- will need to test carefully as I'd hate to waste it!
Wow! How nice! I really like to get more Style patterns not as available in the States. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you! The sizing is def a challenge- I hope to see the Big 4 patterns release more of their vintage styles in their updated size ranges

I barely ever see them in shops here!! I wonder why NZ seems to have so many 🤔
