I'd like to share a "quick measure" approach that I learned when first in the fab business. grap one end of the fabric in your left hand and stretch your arm out, turn your head all the way to the right, and bring the fabric to your nose with your other hand - that is about 1 yard. no yard stick needed. ;)
I was coming to tell her the same thing! Ha ha sweet Raven that was painful to watch. And I could definitely see wide legged pants in that white fabric. In that first floral was amazing.
I was also taught that by my mother back in the early 70’s. Will be forever grateful she taught me how to sew, beginning with Vogue designer patterns! And years later, when I got interested in French Hand Sewing, she sat down and showed me how to do a proper roll and whip. Such a wealth of knowledge!!Endless patience and always made me think I could do anything to which I set my mind !!
Funny story,I came home to hubby from fabric store. I pulled out a large piece of fabric and said (with glee)……doesn’t this fabric just make your eyes so happy! 😁 the look on his face was 😳😬
Hi Raven, the fabric box was amazing value. The printed pink floral was gorgeous for your colouring. The stuff in the plastic bag is sewing tape, it’s sewn across the neckline and shoulder seams to stabilise the fabric. Great vid
I’ve been waiting for an updated Mood Mystery box. Enjoyed this with you. That black sequin would be da bomb shell top for formal night on my Alaska cruise next year 😊
How fantastic! Every single fabric would look fabulous on you!! I can see you making a sleeveless mini dress with the white lining and a goddess overlay with bell sleeves with the white sheer. Thanks for sharing!!
Hi Raven! The red/pink-ish floral is beautiful for you! This looks like a good haul. As a confident beginner-maybe intermediate sewist, I'm inspired by your review of this Mood mystery box. I'm enjoying your videos, and curious what you'd do with all of this haul, esp the 1 yard of the black sequin. :)
OMG Raven! You’re going to be busy my Girl. I love the floral cuts you can get into those like now😊. Can’t wait to see what you make 🤗. Thanks for sharing.
You can also make bags or pouches with some of the leftover scraps. Can't wait to see what you make with this fabric! That first cut is going to look beautiful on you! Mood is a great place for fabric (albeit a little pricey). Enjoy!
Wow Raven, You motivated me to go get the Mood Mystery Box! I've never ordered a mystery box because a lot of times I'm not that impressed. I didn't care for the Fabricmart Box. But this one is a WOW!!!! 🥰
Wooooww.. they are all beautiful but that second fabric!!!❤❤ I wanted to pick that when I went to mood Miami in January. It’s so beautiful. I may need to try their mystery box in June when I’m off my fabric buying ban.
If you hold your arm out horizontally and make a fist, the distance from your nose to the knuckle of your index finger or middle finger is about one yard. A meter can be measured using the same technique, but using an outstretched hand.
I love all of that! I can’t wait to see what you do with that white crepe fabric! That’s the only one that I didn’t have an idea for right away. but now I’m thinking tunic 🤔🧵🪡
tip: Measure the length of your arm. Find out what length of your arm to tip of your nose is It makes guesstimating yardage so much easier I know that one yard is approximately the bottom knuckle on my hand, along my out stretched arm to the end of the opposite shoulder.
is that white bemberg lining? it is the absolute best of linings. I always say 'fall in love with bemberg when you line a circle skirt you rustle, rustle, rustle as you walk down the street and heads turn and they know you are special and wonderful
Love the pretty rose floral❤You got so many nice fabrics! Thanks for sharing!!! I have seen people get actual dirty garbage fabrics in their Mood boxes. 😢
I'm really curious about the black and gold really rough fabric. It looks awesome but I can't imagine what it would have been made for, since it was so rough.
first off: THAT FLEECE UR WEARING LOOKS SO COMFY OMG second: that last piece of fabric that you said was probably suiting, but not enough for a jacket kinda made me think - what about like a vest or waistcoat or something, with that stars and stripes lining fabric? that's just where my brain is tho lol and probably not a very spring-y project but alas!
Here's a quick hint for you - if you hold one end of the fabric at your nose, the length of your arm extended out to the end of your finger is usually about a yard. You can get a quick estimate of the yardage that way. Also the lamé that you thought would make a miniskirt, could be a great sleeveless vest (over a black dress or skirt/top pants?
I was thinking the same, long vests are in style now and it'd be a good layering piece. It's really fun to see what you got, lots of nice fabrics there!
The last gray fabric looks and acts like a wool suiting. Right- not washable. You could make a killer skirt with some pleats. You want to line it. Sorry- it is NOT enough for a woman's jacket!! But, you could purchase a coordinating wool tweed for a killer jacket to go with it! Have a party sewing your new fabrics up- a treasure chest for a sewer!!!!! Forces you to get the creative juices flowing! Thanks for sharing🥰 Carrie fro Northern San Francisco Bay Area❤🐕🐑🌹☕🌞🧵🪡🧶
Sateen is really nice for summer pants and skirts. This particular box of fabric would not be for me. I hope it is OK for you and that you enjoy using it.
I’m very disappointed in Mood. I’ve ordered 3 boxes, over the last 4 months, and each time at least 4-5 lbs are really HEAVY wools, upholstery, strange stretchy stuff, and mostly linings of one kind or another, and ALL blacks, navy, wierd shades … I’ve asked several times why Im being sent this kind of material to FLORIDA … and there was NO reds, yellows, greens, browns, tans or light material, NO florals, or cottons, or even jerseys … just awful … the last batch was sent UPS, and broken, torn, opened, and MOOD did nothing, no credit for shipping, no replacement of material .. NOTHING … I’m cancelling my account there … Lucky you. 😮
I was gushing about this to my husband. All those beautiful fabrics, and I could actually see him thinking: good grief, not more fabric.
🤣🤣🤣 it’s so worth it!
I'd like to share a "quick measure" approach that I learned when first in the fab business. grap one end of the fabric in your left hand and stretch your arm out, turn your head all the way to the right, and bring the fabric to your nose with your other hand - that is about 1 yard. no yard stick needed. ;)
thanks
I was coming to tell her the same thing! Ha ha sweet Raven that was painful to watch. And I could definitely see wide legged pants in that white fabric. In that first floral was amazing.
Exactly. My 93 year old mother thought me that a long time ago.
My grandmother used to do that too.
I was also taught that by my mother back in the early 70’s. Will be forever grateful she taught me how to sew, beginning with Vogue designer patterns! And years later, when I got interested in French Hand Sewing, she sat down and showed me how to do a proper roll and whip. Thanks so much 😊
That box was an incredible value! Just the three prints that are your favorite alone are worth the price of the box. I like that stretch brocade!
OMG!!! You got a few treasures. I would not be that lucky. I would want to keep my mystery a secret. I'm looking forward to seeing what you make!
Thanks - I still say give it a try. You never know, Mood has some great fabrics!
I am glad they give enough useful yardage. I with they had fiber content.
Yes I agree 1000%
Me too! I am guessing at the fabric in my mystery box. I got a lot of rayon/viscose fabrics and cottons in mine!! I love them all!!
That (magenta/pink) floral gives a beautiful brightness to your face.
Thanks!
I love that fabric, too. That would a super cute blouse or a summer dress. The magenta is RavenMaureen's color.
I’ve been waiting for an updated Mood Mystery box. Enjoyed this with you. That black sequin would be da bomb shell top for formal night on my Alaska cruise next year 😊
your Alaskan cruise sounds like so much fun!!! I agree - this would make a nice blouse.
@@RavenMaureen and I forgot to mention this will be our 50th wedding anniversary treat! Love watching your sewing journey
Wow, this is the never ending box! There were so many fabrics in this box. Really great buy. I may have to check out this box. Well done 👏🏾 👏🏾 👏🏾
LOL Sheree it really was!! Haha, I was sad when I got to the end.
The first fabric is really excellent for your colouring. Would make a beautiful dress.
Thank you! 😊
How fantastic! Every single fabric would look fabulous on you!! I can see you making a sleeveless mini dress with the white lining and a goddess overlay with bell sleeves with the white sheer. Thanks for sharing!!
Great idea!! Thanks for watching!
Wow... those are some really nice fabrics. I might have to buy one myself.😊
Yes!! Get one!
What a fantastic mystery box. I love all the fabrics. Totally worth every penny ❤
Thanks Sandie - I agree, worth every penny!
I can’t wait to see what you will do with all of the fabrics.
You are so festive to watch! the unboxing is so fun and I love the commentary :-)
Thank you so much!
Score! The first aqua one and the rose floral are gorgeous and quite big cuts too.
I think so too! Thanks for watching!

I’m ordering a box 📦 right now. The gold and black metallic can be the top of a ball gown or a gown the bodice
Yes, you'll have to let me know how it turns out!
French 1700's gown.
I just love you and your channel so much! You really make a smile on my face just from watching your excitement!!
Thank you so much!! Appreciate the support!
OMG Raven! You’re going to be busy my Girl. I love the floral cuts you can get into those like now😊. Can’t wait to see what you make 🤗. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Jean! I'm excited!!
With the white crepé, you could dye it before or after cutting your pattern. My aunt does it all the time. Nice haul.
Great idea!!
Great pieces! I was pondering a mystery box from Mood. I'm going to get it! Thanks for sharing!
Yes! Can't wait to see what you get!
Gold and black stretch would be a great pencil skirt or vest.
Definitely see it being used as a pencil skirt or part of a dress in some way 😁
Some great pieces right there.
I would make bell bottom pants with the stripe fabfric
Great idea!
That was so fun! Thanks for sharing! I didn’t know anything about the mystery boxes!
Thanks for watching!!
You can also make bags or pouches with some of the leftover scraps. Can't wait to see what you make with this fabric! That first cut is going to look beautiful on you! Mood is a great place for fabric (albeit a little pricey). Enjoy!
Thanks - I used to make bags so that is a possible option.
Raven, I was curious about Mood’s Mystery Box. I’m on a fast but I’m going to try Mood’s Mystery Box and I’m blaming you 🤣🤣🤣
lol! Can't wait to see what you get!
Wow Raven, You motivated me to go get the Mood Mystery Box! I've never ordered a mystery box because a lot of times I'm not that impressed. I didn't care for the Fabricmart Box. But this one is a WOW!!!! 🥰

Oooohhh! Nice - I've driven past the Miami store but never got to go in. The box is 10/10 - highly recommend.

LOL - I have no idea what I will make either but I'm excited.
I ordered one of these a couple weeks ago and it's coming soon! This just made me more excited, haha.
Hope you enjoy it!
Some unusual material and yet lovely.
thanks for watching!
tip: Measure the length of your arm. Find out what length of your arm to tip of your nose is
It makes guesstimating yardage so much easier
I know that one yard is approximately the bottom knuckle on my hand, along my out stretched arm to the end of the opposite shoulder.
The first was definitely my favorite too!
I don't know how I found you, but I'm so glad I did. Your personality is amazing. Great video.
Thank you so much!! Welcome to my channel!
Thanks for the fabric edutainment!
Any time! LOL!
is that white bemberg lining? it is the absolute best of linings. I always say 'fall in love with bemberg when you line a circle skirt you rustle, rustle, rustle as you walk down the street and heads turn and they know you are special and wonderful
I honestly wish I knew, but it’s so yummy. I’ve already used some of it
Love the pretty rose floral❤You got so many nice fabrics! Thanks for sharing!!! I have seen people get actual dirty garbage fabrics in their Mood boxes. 😢
Thank you - and wow, didn't know that could actually happen. Yikes!
Wow Such gorgeous fabrics… definitely 10/10
Yes - definitely worth trying it out!
That was a cool box...great selection. They should put the fabric type, fiber content , and amount on though...that forst blue print was my fave.
Thanks Gwen - I completely agree. A little guidance would've been nice.
Before you even start I can tell you it’s good!❤I took you it’s already looking good I haven’t even seen the rest, you’re first piece!fire
Thank you so much!!
Hi Raven, that is beautiful fabric❤. I know you will make beautiful garments from it!
Thank you Zelda!
you have a CAT!! LOVE YOU!!!
LOL, yes I adore her on most days.
That’s a nice box! Full of beauties.
thanks - I hope you get one!
So fun to get a mystery box!
It is!! I want to do more but I don’t have the space after doing 2 back to back 😂
I think that floral fabric looks great with your coloring (the first floral you showed)
I agree! I'm so excited and nervous to cut into it. lol
Nice video great info. Have fun sewing
Thanks so much!
That was a box of treasures!!! I will definitely get a box😊
Yes, get one!! Can't wait to see what you get!
I'm really curious about the black and gold really rough fabric. It looks awesome but I can't imagine what it would have been made for, since it was so rough.
I think it's a brocade or a jacquard.
I was so excited to see this posted 😂
haha, yessss! I hope it didn't disappoint.
Ooooh I need that first fabric!
yes!!
Weave, sateen or a LONG vest -fitted almost..with great buttons that would be just for looks.
Thanks for the idea!
That gold brocade would make a stunning vest or bodice⚜️
Thanks for the idea!
That basket weave fabric would make a great tote bag or purse.
Thanks for the idea!
That was such fun to watch ❤😊
Thanks for watching!!
The last piece of blue fabric would make a nice ruffled "vest" or skater skirt.
Great idea!
The Last blue fabric would make a cute short jacket.
Yes like a cropped one, it’s definitely not enough for a full on blazer 😬
@@RavenMaureen yes a cropped jacket or a bolero.
The pink?red floral looks fantastic on you!
Thank you so much!
I am wondering if that little packaged red 8 is something you throw in the drier after you wash fabric that picks up loose threads and cat hair.
It’s Velcro … I wonder if it’s for outerwear or something and I just snip it as needed. Lol I wish they labeled it 🤣
I love the last one, let me know if you want to get rid if it
Thanks, I'll let you know
first off: THAT FLEECE UR WEARING LOOKS SO COMFY OMG
second: that last piece of fabric that you said was probably suiting, but not enough for a jacket kinda made me think - what about like a vest or waistcoat or something, with that stars and stripes lining fabric? that's just where my brain is tho lol and probably not a very spring-y project but alas!
Thanks - it's a McCall's pattern M8343 ... and I probably won't use the last fabric in the box until Fall or Winter
Looks like the gold metallic was folded when you measured it. Is that one yard or two?
it's one yard, thanks
My favourite no 1 fabric
Do you mind telling where these fabrics came from? I would love to order some. Thanks!
Hi - the link is in the description box
Oh I need one 😂. Let me go order now
YES!!
You should definitely wear the gold and black stretch brocade near your face. When you held it up, it was a lovely combination. Perhaps a vest?
Thanks for the idea!
Cool beans. I love this. It is really fub
Thank you!
Wow I've always loved that teal floral!
it's so beautiful!!
Nice!!! I got blue gingham fabric in mine. Sigh. lol
Hey - I'm sure you can find a use for it somehow. Have you seen the tudor blouse? A lot of gingham versions of that blouse for sure.
So much fabric I love it….
Thank you! 😊
that paisley? TOTE BAG! lining? okay, but, i am feeling TOTE BAG!!
NOW, the floral print? lining for sure! (i myself can't stand floral print like that. why? i don't know but, i just don't like it)
That second fabric looks like a bathing suit and wrap to me. Is it suitable?
It probably is, but I will likely make a dress from it.
It should be on your receipt the yards
Unfortunately it wasn’t listed.
Would make fabulous curtains....just sayin lol I love the first one
Haha yes nice dark moody curtains for sure. But I’m leaning towards a dress of some sort
Maybe vest for the last piece?
ooh that's an idea! It's definitely got the structure for one!
I was thinking the same, long vests are in style now and it'd be a good layering piece. It's really fun to see what you got, lots of nice fabrics there!
Make a vest with the wool suiting!
Great idea, thanks
You got some of the same things as me!
oh wow, so cool!
Boho Fabrics does a mystery box and they do tell you at least some fabric content and yardage information. (hint hint)
I'll have to check them out. Thanks!
How does one get a mystery box?
The link is in the description box
The shirting needs to be measured with stripes running length wise, it wasn’t folded selvage to selvage. Nice haul!
Yes! Thank you!
I love this idea but fiber content and washing instructions being absent is a bit frustrating.
Completely agree with you! It’s definitely an opportunity for them to explore
Can you not dye the white fabric and make it to a colour of your choice?
It's possible but I don't think I will. I'm actually thinking of making a nice pair of white slacks with them.
I'm so tall, I wish yardage went further with me!
Curious as to how you go about purchasing a mystery box?
The link is in the description box
I want the white one from mood Ill buy from you
Sorry it’s not for sale!
The last gray fabric looks and acts like a wool suiting. Right- not washable. You could make a killer skirt with some pleats. You want to line it. Sorry- it is NOT enough for a woman's jacket!! Carrie I love all your ideas and your enthusiasm!! Haha thanks for watching!
I need more fabric like I need a hole in the head but f those fabrics are beautiful!
I don't even sew and yet I want a Mood Mystery Box!!
😂😂 gotta get one!!
Dark stretch make great pants.
Agreed! :)
There are no wrong florals! 😊
haha thank you!!
Oh, wow. That piece of satin backed crepe is worth what you paid for the box.
Right???!
Sateen is really nice for summer pants and skirts. This particular box of fabric would not be for me. I hope it is OK for you and that you enjoy using it.
Thanks - I’m going to definitely enjoy a lot of these cuts of fabric
I got my 10 pound mystery box for my Birthday! I made a YT video of what fabrics I received. Feel free to check it out if you want to compare fabrics!
I hope you enjoy your new fabric!
The box is open because whoever delivered it open it. Some of my deliveries comes open also. Thank God they did'nt take anything.
I'm going to err on the side of - maybe it was an accident.
