  • In this episode we share another huge modification to our 5th gen 4Runner, a custom, 1 of 1 swing out tire carrier by Andy Ross at Ross Fab Offroad.
We talk about why we wanted this modification done and what makes it so special compared to many other different swingouts on the market today.
Let us know your thoughts and if you happen to be in Ohio or surrounding states and need some custom metal fab work on your rig whether it be skid plates, rock sliders, steel bumpers or a swing out like ours, be sure to hit up Andy below.

RFO looks like the real deal. How is it dealing with a full-length swing-out arm, especially when parked around other cars?

Hi In Gratitude I am. Thanks for watching and asking. We appreciate it. That's a great question. This will depend on how tight and the angle of the car spaces. We actually had a chance to try it out yesterday when the car next to us decided to leave. He pulled out just fine. Theses spaces were at an angle and not straight in, so that may influence it, but I also don't foresee having it open a lot in parking lots. Hope that helps.

That's fantastic, look super clean! I agree, the full bumpers are just too heavy and expensive. Also, I love the OG Trail edition, I have one too, a silver 2013.

HI Trainrunnah. Thanks for watching and sharing the kind words with us. We really appreciate it. That's awesome you have a '13 Trail. I don't think we'll ever get rid of ours. Do you take yours out often? Stay safe out there!

@@SpiritedWrenchers I'm in Rhode Island, I have to travel a few hours north to hit any trails so unfortunately I don't get out nearly as much as I'd like. Most of my driving is the 60 mile round trip to work or getting my mountain bike to the trails. 175k and counting, the 4R has been super reliable so far!

Nice job. How much space between the tire and the back window.

Hi Robert. Thanks for watching and sharing the kind words. We appreciate it. From the most secure spot, it's 4". From the top of the wheel/tire, it's over 5. Hope that helps.

Hi Stephen. Thanks for watching and asking. We appreciate it. We’re running 33s, but the platform can be modified to adapt to larger based on what the customer has. Andy can help answer any specific questions you may have. Hope that helps. Cheers!

Thanks brother for watching. We appreciate it. We wouldn't let just anyone cut the body open for this one but after seeing all of his work on other rigs in our Toyota group, I had the trust that he would knock this project out the park.
