Before this movie came out, people would make jokes about how the Deathstar was stunningly easy to destroy. This movie turned that on its head by making it purposeful sabotage by the designer, on top of being such a wonderful movie that makes you feel like Star Wars is actually... a War. I've never gotten through the end of the battle scene without crying.
that's why this movie to me and probably a lot of other star wars fans is in their top 5 star wars movies . i knew a lot of people wanted this story to be told since the rouge 1 rebels where mentioned in A New Hope as a small band of rebels gave their lives to get the plans for the death star to the rebellion
@@antoineporche-rideaux4841 I thought this for a while but the scene you're thinking of is actually from Return of the Jedi and refers to the Death Star II

@@Сайтамен It was a big operation by the rebel alliance to get in position for pilots to attack it, yes. What I meant was that people would joke that a couple shots, even into a reactor, blowing up the entire Deathstar was funny. It's like if you had a 1m x 1m exhaust port on the back of an aircraft carrier and one pistol bullet travelled all the way to its center, pinged off the furnace, and blew the whole ship up.
This movie is the best prequel ever made. It ties two segments so well, it adds to the lore and it was the first time we could see how scary Vader can be.
The fact that this movie showed the sacrifices it actually takes to give hope and a future for the Rebellion is just wonderful to see. Probably the main reason why this movie did so good.
@@CatBxtchNami Why, because the director and writers didn't fix mistakes. How, though: They're all to aware in writing and pacing that we know generally how the movie ends. But instead of dealing with the forgone conclusion that they will steal and deliver the plans no matter what by slowing down and developing the characters, they're violently propelled from action to action with no real actual or natural progression in relationships. Jyn goes from yelling at Cassian to quoting him passionately and Cassian goes from cold blooded killer to organizing a suicide squad for her because he chose not to kill the one person he was specifically ordered to kill, which was her father. And he had good reasons for not killing him, I'm sure Bor gullet was used, despite him making people go crazy, to learn the truth. Yet nothing comes of that truth gathering scene. When the X-Wings attacked Jyn's fathers position, we're told that they can't be called off because they're already committed. Nonsense. No shots were fired yet, and there's apparently instantaneous two way interstellar communications in Star Wars and with that squadron, so there's plenty of time to call them off. Even if there wasn't, there's nothing to prevent one of the X-Wings from hovering over the pad for a few seconds and sweeping the pad clear of enemies while his squad mates covered him. The end battle scenes went from "Cool visuals, I guess," to, "Seriously?" The inclusion of Red and Gold Leaders, obviously limited to what they could cull from cut angles meaning the almost the same exact lines from A New Hope was jarring. Then there's the out of place Mos Eisley jerks somehow being on Jedha, being jerks on Jedha because they have to cram some random cameo in the movie, just for them to leave Jedha immediately after being jerks and going straight to Tattoine, without freaking out over almost being killed by the Death Star. Pretty much everyone died in an explosion immediately after serving their one purpose in the movie, which was to flip a switch. And some of those switches were outside and exposed to the elements for no reason. And the antenna was out of alignment for no reason, and somehow transmitted to everyone yet just the rebel flagship, which had Leia's ship in it for some reason. And let's not forget that C-3PO and R2-D2 were in the Yavin hangar when everyone left yet on Leia's ship when it got boarded not much longer later. Also, the battle scenes was ridiculous. The rebels had the element of surprise, yet they didn't immediately start shooting everything on sight upon exiting lightspeed. There was no general plan and at most minimal coordination. Orders were given sporadically, instead of rapid fire. There was no shooting between the capital ships and minimal firing from the capital ships. There was no bombing or bombardment of the Imperial structure surrounding the shield opening. There were no squadrons of fighters firing volleys of torpedoes, just random fighters almost casually flying about and shooting at the occasional target. There were a total of 3 star destroyers in orbit around Scarif and yet not one deployed any troops to reinforce the surface. Instead, they just let the surface fend for itself and eventually Tarkin destroyed the Empire's own base, despite only some rebels being on the surface and despite the rebels already getting the plans. And fuck the rest of the data stored there, right? That's not important anymore for some reason. Vader's scene at the end was supposed to be orgasmicilly amazing, yet it's a let down and shows him to be incompetent. He dramatically took his time and turned off his life support and almost casually walked down the hall killing fools, instead of being mister badass sith and using the Force to brush everyone to the side and at least trying to Force grab the plans or using the Force to at least try stopping Leia's ship. Then he's standing in the vacuum of space like his suit is rated for that.
@@andymiller6661 I understand why people hate Star Wars fans now. I've got news for you, I think the original trilogy is a bunch of trash boring movies that aged terribly and have shit writing. I'm glad Disney destroyed your franchise with that atrocity of a new trilogy.
@@CatBxtchNami What does the original trilogy have to do with this? When did I say anything about the original trilogy? How is it my franchise? I never claimed anything as mine. Why bring up all of that randomness instead of addressing what I actually said?
I remember seeing this movie in theaters with my friends. One of them had seen it before and told the rest of us “all the characters die”, but none of us took him seriously since it sounded so unbelievable. It wasn’t until the characters actually started dying that I realized he was serious
@@marcus_ohreallyus There was a study about so called spoilers: "Writers use their artistry to make stories interesting, to engage readers, and to surprise them, but we found that giving away these surprises makes readers like stories better. This was true whether the spoiler revealed a twist at the end (e.g., that the condemned man’s daring escape is just a fantasy as the rope snaps taut around his neck) or solved the crime (e.g., Poirot discovers that the apparent target of attempted murder was in fact the perpetrator). It was also true when the spoiler was more poetic, as when frisky adolescents watching a couple struggle with a baby are revealed to be previewing their own futures, and the couple glimpsing their own pasts. In all these types of stories, spoilers may allow readers to organize developments, anticipate the implications of events, and resolve ambiguities that occur in the course of reading. It is possible that spoilers enhance enjoyment by actually increasing tension. Knowing the ending of Oedipus Rex may heighten the pleasurable tension caused by the disparity in knowledge between the omniscient reader and the character marching to his doom. This notion is consistent with the assertion that stories can be reread with no diminution of suspense (Carroll, 1996). Although our results suggest that people are wasting their time avoiding spoilers, our data do not suggest that authors err by keeping things hidden. Stories that open by revealing outcomes may lead readers to anticipate additional revelations at the end; in other words, readers do not expect a story to provide complete premature knowledge of its ending the way an external source might. Indeed, it was only spoilers external to the stories that enhanced readers’ delight; there was no benefit to our editing the stories themselves. Erroneous intuitions about the nature of spoilers may persist because individual readers are unable to compare spoiled and unspoiled experiences of a novel story." "Subjects significantly preferred spoiled over unspoiled stories in the case of both the ironic twist stories (6.20 vs. 5.79), p = .013, Cohen’s d = 0.18, and the mysteries (7.29 vs. 6.60), p = .001, d = 0.34. The evocative stories were appreciated less overall, likely because of their more expressly literary aims, but subjects again significantly preferred spoiled over unspoiled versions (5.50 vs. 5.03), p = .019, d = 0.22. In all three story types, incorporating spoiler texts into stories had no effect on how much they were liked, ps > .4." So it is more than likely that this remark actually increased their enjoyment of the movie.
At the start of the space battle you said "this feels so similar to the original" - well if you didn't realise, the "gold leader standing by" and "red leader" clips were actually cut from A New Hope. Also a nice subtlety was the pilot Red 5 dying in the space battle, who is replaced by... Luke Skywalker as Red 5 in a New Hope :) It's the little things that they absolutely nailed in Rogue One unlike some of the other Star Wars spin offs.
Actually Gold Leader’s actor came back and reprised his role for this movie 40 years later, they just de-aged him. Red Leader’s actor was dead though so yeah they reused footage.
@@M1cha3lP There is an interview of Gold Leader’s actor talking about reprising his role in Rogue One and shooting new footage for the film. Chill bruh.

I saw A New Hope in the first weekend of its release in 1977. I had never left a theater with such a feeling of elation before. Rogue One was the first Star Wars movie since then that left me with the same feeling of elation.
I had plenty of goosebumps when I saw this at the premiere date here in denmark, with only 1 other person that early! I saw the prequels and TFA there too!only Han and Leia died in the sequels, so not many other characters to feel loss over in the other movies!
By far the best of the "new" Star Wars films and certainly the best outside of the original trilogy, even though the sad end is known from the get go, if one has seen the original Star Wars. Just very well told and well executed.
Like you I love this movie; in fact I'm not ashamed to admit when I say in the cinema, Jyn's scenes with ehr father with the hologram thingy and later with him in person brought tears to my eyes (and still do). If yo think about it, she has a tragic life - her early life as a little kid is in secutirty, then she watches her mum killed in front of her and is sperated from her dad. She then has to grow up (through puberty no less) whilst "looked after" by Saul's guerillas. She's arrested and sentenced to a labour camp, see's her dad die in front of her; and then dies herself whiclst barely in her twenties. And yes she died knowing she had helped defeat the Empire (who killed her father and caused all this) but talk about a f*cked up childhood.
Rogue One has become my favorite Star Wars movie. It just edges out Empire for the top spot. The reason for this was the feel of the movie, it really encapsulated the war part and I think we need more of that. Jedi and the big heroes are nice but seeing the war from the perspective of regular people is amazing. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
It's interesting that in the OT, _A New Hope_ and _Return of the Jedi_ start small scale, focused on individuals, then escalate to the grand finale at the end; _Empire Strikes Back_ has the big battle in the first half and then interpersonal drama in the second half. I agree Rogue One slightly edges out the others as "best Star Wars film that ends in a huge battle", but depending on my mood I could go either way on _Empire_ vs _Rogue._ As fun as Vader is here and as moving as their sacrifice is, Luke's duel with Vader and that reveal is still unmatched for what it is.
My favorite Star Wars movie. Dark, gritty, ruthless. Also it plays in the time of the original trilogy but made with modern technology. It never looked and sounded better! I hope we get more movies like this. Current hope is on the Andor show. 😊
While I cried ugly tears when everyone died one by one, I later thought about it and realised that it makes perfect sense. Of course they all had to die since none of these characters are in A New Hope. And given the line in that movie about how many died to deliver the plans. This became my all time favourite Star Wars movie. The list is endless with all the details they put in to make this such a seamless transition to A New Hope. Just pure perfection.
Just because they're not in a New Hope in itself doesn't mean that they had to die. There's any number of reasons why they wouldn't be there. and even dead people get mentioned, especially after something like that. Except no one who died got mentioned.
Great reaction Addie. My older child was 10 when we watched this and he had never seen a movie with an ending like that before. He looked up at me with tears in his eyes and he said I don’t like that daddy. I said I know it sucked everybody died. Still one of my favorites of all the films.
What I love about this movie is it REALLY drives home just how much was sacrificed and how massively heroic the people who ensured those plans got out were because they came at an extremely heavy cost.
This is simply the best of the later movie to come out since the original trilogy. The writing was fantastic, it relied upon the story rather than flashy CGI, although they used that to some great new standards. Vader’s rage at the end was absolutely brilliant and masterful! So glad you enjoyed this one!
I was a bit surprised to see Grand Moff Tarkin since Peter Cushing had been dead for 20 years but I liked it. Princess Leia was a shock too. I read later that she saw the movie before she died and liked the CGI version of her a lot. She also gave her blessing to do it. This made me happy.
@@brockbaby for the time it was pretty good, but the whole deep fakes technology was only just coming in then. Like if you compare Luke Skywalker in Mandalorian S2 ending to Book of Boba Fett, it's crazy how much they improved his look - and both these came out way after Rogue One.
It can always be said that CGI should only be used if it fits the story. Leia needed to be there at the end to make sure people understood that was the ship from the beginning of A New Hope. They could have just shown the white robed figure from the back, but even with the not quite so good face I think this was better. Tarkin might have been shown too much, but it was a pretty cool addition to the lore how he usurped control of the death star project from Krenick. Everyone always extoll the vertices of practical effects in movies like the Thing, but Tarkin, to me, looks more like Peter Cushing than the dog monster looked like a real creature. It's all about your ability to let go and just enjoy the movie.
One of the most iconic Darth Vader scene was here , cinematic at the finest with smoke and red light from Saber...love it ... Vader went full juggernaut mode
I will always remember the first time I saw this movie in the theater. Three days after Carrie Fisher died. There was NOT a dry eye in the house. This is a great movie. Thank you.
If you like K2SO (the droid), he was voiced by Alan Tudyk. He also played the pilot Hoban Washburne in Firefly, and Steve the Pirate in Dodgeball. He was also brilliant in the British version of Death at a Funeral. All of them are well worth watching for him, and other reasons.
Addie, you continue to impress. I've been unsubscribing from a lot of reactors lately for their inability to comprehend (or even pay attention to) what is directly presented to them in the films they watch. You are both astute and passionate. Keep up the great work!
10:07 The scene where K2 slaps Cassian was improvised by Alan Tudyk. Immediately after this happened, you can see Diego Luna holding up his hand to cover his face. He did this to obscure a huge smile so that the scene didn't have to be redone. Probably my favorite bit of trivia from this movie.
It neatly explains why Vader's so pissed off in ANH. He literally just watched this ship fly away and Leia's all like "We're on a diplomatic mission for Alderaan." Like hell you are young lady! There's no wind in space, so Vader was making his cloak flap using the force. #extra.
My head canon is that there's an invisible force field holding the air in there and the air currents from the vents pumping in more air to make up for the volume the ship was displacing while docked.
Ah, perfect timing to be watching this film since the premiere of Andor is near. And you are correct. Tarkin's was CG to make it look like Peter Cushing was back from the dead, so to speak. Same for Leia at the end, only this came out before her death on December 26th of that year (and her mother, Debbie Reynolds, died the next day). For Tarkin, Guy Henry provided the voice, and Leia saying "hope" at the end was archived audio of Carrie Fisher in the Original Trilogy. And yes, again, that was James Earl Jones, but Hayden wasn't in the suit for this film. They had two different people for the two scenes he was in. Edit: Well, next up in the films is Solo, and then you have the Sequel Trilogy, plus you have Clone Wars, Rebels, The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and of course, Andor, and there's also gonna be Acolytes (possibly, if we get any trailers or news about that) and Ahsoka. Who's Ahsoka, you ask? The Clone Wars will tell you, but make sure you watch the episodes in chronological order, starting with episode 216.
@@karlsmith2570 Actually, they used archived footage from A New Hope for Red and Gold Leaders, but their respective actors did record new dialogue during the Battle of Scarif. For Drewe Henley (who played Red Leader), sadly, this was a posthumous appearance, as he died 10 months before the movie came out.
The perfect example of how they can make a compelling movie without any of the original characters - and no Jedi to save everyone. I'd argue that this is the best Star Wars movie because the stakes were understood by everyone - it was a suicide mission to save the galaxy- and everyone stepped up to get it done.
This is one of my favorites. I cried too at the theater when I saw it the first time. Glad to see you reacting and watching Star Wars, the best franchise ever.
When I first saw this, was really getting into it like like the reacters I see now. Wondering, these characters are pretty awesome I wonder why we never hear from them again, til half way thru when it started clicking they weren't gonna make it. K2SO was my favorite in this one for sure, a droid with just the right amount of sass..
Its amazing how they took the first couple sentences of the text crawl of A New Hope: "It is a period of civil war. Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire. During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet." And make this amazing movie.
I don't think there has been any moment in any movie that made me happier the first time I saw it, than the moment the Rebel fleet arrives over Scarif. That and the whole battle following it are.. almost everything I've wanted in a Star Wars movie, or any movie, my whole life, and nothing before or since has done it as well.
This is easily my favorite Star Wars film to come from Disney. If you have the chance, there's a documentary about the making of the film that is really interesting.
Still the best SW media out of Disney, I remember in the theater on day 1 that scene where Jyn and Cassian board the shuttle and she says "may the force be with us" caused the theater to erupt in applause, great movie.
Out of all the movies I've seen in a theater, the beginning of this movie delivered the most stunned uncomfortable silence when the iconic scrolling text skipped right into the movie. All you could hear were murmurs of "oh" "wtf" "Ahhhh!" "nope, don't like that" etc.
OK so I finished the video. Glad you enjoyed it. Yes Tarkin and Leia were both CGI over another actors face, and Carrie Fisher died just a month after the film was released and it was still in theatres. Also Michael Giaccino did an amazing job with the music on this movie, and "your father would be proud" will forever be one of my favourite pieces of theatrical music
Large parts of Scariff Base were filmed in the Canary Wharf's London Underground station. It's very obvious in one of the early trailers. The Interval between Rogue One and Episode for is anywhere between 2 hours and two weeks.
Not only a great Star Wars film, but up there with some of the best war films. Seeing this in the theater, it struck me that I was watching a very well done war movie that just happened to be set in space. The gritty, raw nature of the production was the perfect choice, the characters were almost flawlessly designed and executed, and the connection into lore & elsewhere was done in a very meaningful way. I couldn’t help but feel more for EP 4, and how well it fit into the puzzle. The Force is with me, and I am with the Force.
This is, BY FAR, the best of your reactions I have seen. The emotion... The connection with and love for the characters... Your appreciation of the storyline... And yes... Agreed... This is one of THE BEST of all the star wars movies. Thank you!
26:32 they have actual old footage of red squadron that was not used in the old movie, restorated and reused here. there is after all merely hours between the end of Rogue one and the beginning of A new Hope. 20 minutes if I'm not entirely mistaken.
Hello, Addie. I love how you were trying to keep your composure under you excitement at the end. I sure felt it too when Leia turned around. Yes, great tie-in to IX
Excellent movie! It's basically a Star Wars meets The Dirty Dozen type of story about a suicide mission. Can't wait for the new Andor Series this Fall.
I love that you called her weapon a"blaster". It shows you pay attention. Great show on this review. When you re-watch it again you'll see more and more how it moves right into "A New Hope". Then watch that one... Thanks. 2 thumbs up!
The thing I love about this movie is that blowing up the base would have killed everyone anyways. But they gave each main character a meaningful death, and made you feel their loss individually. Even Director Krennic, who was the first person on the base killed by the Death Star, when it cut through the top of the tower.
just got to watching this reaction and I was curious if you watched the Andor Disney+ series, and was surprised you hadn't (at least did not react to it on your channel) but you REALLY should
I saw Star Wars in the theater in 1977. I was 7 years old, and I've been a fan of it ever since. This movie really ties into the first movie which makes it even more iconic.😮
They not only CGIed Carrie Fisher but also the commander of the Death Star, the leader of the rebels who you pointed out smiled, and they used shots from episode IV's battle scene which were filmed and not used back in 1977. The lady you pointed out who smiled has a speech before they attack and destroy the Death Star where she says many people died to get the plans to them.
24:34: Yeah. We've seen, throughout Star Wars, bases built on lava worlds, ice worlds, jungle worlds, desert worlds, mountain worlds, swamp worlds, ocean worlds, and so on. Finally, someone said "You know what? Let's build our base on the TROPICAL BEACH PLANET."
Great reaction! 😊 This is one of my top 5 "Star Wars" movies. Fun, But Sad Fact that I forgot to mention on Patreon: This movie was released 11 days before Carrie Fisher passed away in December of 2016. Looking forward to your next reaction. 😊
"That sounds like Darth Vader" That's intended. There are extremists on both sides, and they used being supported by machines as the connecting bridge.
Rogue One is the puzzle piece that completes the story we have all grown to love!! We all love seeing the finished product and even with it being over, there is much more to be explored!! I'm hoping you will continue with Andor in the future!! Take care, Addie!! May The Force Be With You, Always
Two fun small details: at the end, Director Krennic, on top of the tower, is clipped by the Death Star beam. Darth Vader is holding the hallway door shut with the Force.

Best Star Wars movie as far as I am concerned. Perfect connected tissue between 1-3 and 4-6. I love how it you watch movies in release order from 4-6 and 1-3, then comes Rogue One and it seemlessly leads back into watching 4-6. Perfect Circle.
hmmm.... I certainly liked this one. It is a good movie, but my personal opinion I wouldn't rank it 3rd or even 4th. The movie was a little slow until everything started happening at the end of the movie. But still a good movie.
I loved watching this video, your reaction to this movie was awesome and exactly like mine i loved how they tied everything together and how you see the transition of everything closer to a new hope, even though is an epic tradegy and a triumph for the rebellion and all of the sacrifices that had to be made
Fun Fact, Addie: In the space battle above Scarif, they used unused shots of Red Leader and Gold Leader from A New Hope, since it takes place right before that film, with the latter recording new lines.
This is one that brought genuine emotion to we who wais made in the tched the original in theaters back in '77. This qualifies as one of the best Star Wars movies for so many reasons....
35:24 there's a scene in episode 4 when they're reviewing the plans for the Death Star where someone says something like A lot of people lost their lives to get us these plans. This is what they were referring to.
The voice of the tall droid is Alan Tudyk. He's a Julliard-trained actor who voiced the chicken in Moana and the rolly-polly in Raya, along others, but most importantly Wash in Firefly.
Such a good movie. One of my faves as well. The first time I watched it, was late in the evening the day that Carrie Fisher passed away in Dec 2016. When Leia appeared, played by Norwegian actress Ingvild Deila, you could hear sobs in the audience.
I giggled like a little schoolgirl when I heard the respirator watching this for the first time. When you hear the breathing, you know the door isn't stuck. Vader is holding it with the Force.
I love how stressful this film is, it was so different and yet so original Star Wars at the same time. Every obstacle they have to overcome, finding the plans, getting the plans, finding the master switch, communicating with the fleet, taking down the shield, even having to reset the antenna, going to the end of walkway, then krennic turns up, each step so simple and yet so difficult to achieve. So by the time that voice finally says ‘transmitting….transmitting’ you’re so relieved even though you already knew that it was going to work out after seeing a new hope. Even then you can’t rest because then we have Vader mowing down rebels as the disc gets passed down from one person to another down the corridors. It’s just so frenetic, and stressful and fast paced the first time you watch it that it feels like you feel the same stress the characters do.

Your friend spoiled it? Execute order 66 on him.
@@marcus_ohreallyus There was a study about so called spoilers:
"Writers use their artistry to make stories interesting, to engage
readers, and to surprise them, but we found that giving away
these surprises makes readers like stories better. This was true
whether the spoiler revealed a twist at the end (e.g., that the
condemned man’s daring escape is just a fantasy as the rope
snaps taut around his neck) or solved the crime (e.g., Poirot
discovers that the apparent target of attempted murder was in
fact the perpetrator). It was also true when the spoiler was
more poetic, as when frisky adolescents watching a couple
struggle with a baby are revealed to be previewing their own
futures, and the couple glimpsing their own pasts. In all these
types of stories, spoilers may allow readers to organize developments, anticipate the implications of events, and resolve
ambiguities that occur in the course of reading.
It is possible that spoilers enhance enjoyment by actually
increasing tension. Knowing the ending of Oedipus Rex may
heighten the pleasurable tension caused by the disparity in
knowledge between the omniscient reader and the character
marching to his doom. This notion is consistent with the assertion
that stories can be reread with no diminution of suspense
(Carroll, 1996). Although our results suggest that people
are wasting their time avoiding spoilers, our data do not
suggest that authors err by keeping things hidden. Stories
that open by revealing outcomes may lead readers to anticipate additional revelations at the end; in other words, readers
do not expect a story to provide complete premature knowledge
of its ending the way an external source might. Indeed, it
was only spoilers external to the stories that enhanced
readers’ delight; there was no benefit to our editing the stories
themselves.
Erroneous intuitions about the nature of spoilers may persist because individual readers are unable to compare spoiled
and unspoiled experiences of a novel story."
"Subjects significantly preferred
spoiled over unspoiled stories in the case of both the ironic twist stories (6.20 vs. 5.79), p = .013, Cohen’s d = 0.18, and
the mysteries (7.29 vs. 6.60), p = .001, d = 0.34. The evocative
stories were appreciated less overall, likely because of their
more expressly literary aims, but subjects again significantly
preferred spoiled over unspoiled versions (5.50 vs. 5.03), p = .019, d = 0.22. In all three story types, incorporating spoiler
texts into stories had no effect on how much they were liked,
ps > .4."
So it is more than likely that this remark actually increased their enjoyment of the movie.
funny story it was rewritten that way because the original plot was called too idealistic with at least some of the people surviving lol
At the start of the space battle you said "this feels so similar to the original" - well if you didn't realise, the "gold leader standing by" and "red leader" clips were actually cut from A New Hope.
Also a nice subtlety was the pilot Red 5 dying in the space battle, who is replaced by... Luke Skywalker as Red 5 in a New Hope :)
It's the little things that they absolutely nailed in Rogue One unlike some of the other Star Wars spin offs.
Actually Gold Leader’s actor came back and reprised his role for this movie 40 years later, they just de-aged him. Red Leader’s actor was dead though so yeah they reused footage.
Because John Knoll who ran ILM thought of it. They all seem very smart and clever in interviews. And his brother created Photoshop.
@@thatperformer3879 You're joking, right? I've never heard that story before. It's all repurposed footage that was filmed for the original Star Wars.

I saw A New Hope in the first weekend of its release in 1977. I had never left a theater with such a feeling of elation before. Rogue One was the first Star Wars movie since then that left me with the same feeling of elation.
I felt the same way, Kirk. I just turned 7 when I Star Wars for my birthday. This epic film left me with that same feeling of elation.

And Mads Mikkelsen is always a win!
Gareth Edwards is a good director(Monsters, Godzilla, Rogue One) though I heard Tony Gilroy(Bourne Legacy) reshot a lot of the movie.
This actually comes in third of my fav films in the series. Maybe second even second on some days!
@@luxurybuzz3681 Yes, Gilroy did a lot, but Edwards was a good soldier and promoted the film with a smile.
My thoughts exactly, I really hope Andor is as good.
@@masteryoda7207 It turns out...Andor is even better than I could've expected and probably the best thing to come out of Star Wars.
Great reaction. That last scene with Darth Vader fighting in the hallway gives me chills every time.
There will always be a special place in my heart for Rogue One 🙌
Rogue One was AWESOME !!! LOVED it !!!

The CGI was so bad on him.. I wish they'd only shown his reflection in the window. Then waited for his full reveal in A New Hope.

@@mckrackin5324 I like the story, real or not, of her thinking it was a restored clip she made in 77, until they told her it was entirely cgi
Yep - either that or its backwash from the ship's engines
lousy explanation
Same thing with Red and Gold leaders
@@karlsmith2570 Actually, they used archived footage from A New Hope for Red and Gold Leaders, but their respective actors did record new dialogue during the Battle of Scarif. The arrival of the Rebel fleet above Scarif still gives me chills. It's so well done.

This is one that brought genuine emotion to we who wais made in the tched the original in theaters back in '77. This qualifies as one of the best Star Wars movies for so many reasons....

When Leia appeared, played by Norwegian actress Ingvild Deila, you could hear sobs in the audience.
that would have been me. 48 yr old man sobbing in the movies.
