(stinkin TH-cam deleted my comment because I was dingy & put in a link 😖)…short side👉luv’d your video, thanks to you & Stephanie I finally got my Lamy Allstar bronze w/ cult pens Diamine pumpkin shimmer 😍. Luv that sketch kit, maybe using a Lihit Lab PuniLabo Book Band with Pen Case would help with the water brush ? I think that bag would be perfect for my patio sketching kit I’m putting together. Thanks Maggie for all your videos this year…you’ve been a shiny bright spot for me and I appreciate you. 💜 Hope you are happy & well
Thank you so much for this heartwarming comment, Temple! Your comments are a bright spot for me, too, and I hope you have so much art fun waiting for you in 2023 my sweet friend!
Oof Stephanie Davis may have enabled me too, lol. Today I'm actually painting with something I got after watching an arleebean video a few months ago. Getting more excited for my no buy to start!! Trying to remind myself that I'm not supposed to buy ALL THE THINGS before the no buy. 😅
Windsor & Newton also sells a clear granulating medium to mix with any color as well if you're uncomfortable mixing colors. 😍 But I do love the Schmincke super granulating colors.
I think Lindsay the Frugal Crafter did a cool comparison video with a granulating medium like that versus mixing in granulating black-I should link that!!
I got into fountain pens thanks to you ❤ one of the ink samples I got was that firefly and is gorgeous! Your granulating palette is like candies to my eyes 🤩 I got some Schmincke granulating watercolor throughout this year and has been such a joy to paint with.
It sounds like we share a lot of the same taste for "art candy"!! I know you'll love those paints, and that ink is just so stinkin flowy and pretty!! 🤗🤗🤗
Oh wow you’re going to be my ink enabler soon next year, I think 🤔 😁💕. I love ✒️ fountain pens & I have used them for calligraphy many years ago. But I’m thinking of trying them next year with my artwork (watercolor & gouache). Thanks for sharing this wonderful video of favorite art supplies.
Definitely try it, I love using them to make art and to journal and for calendaring/work notes!! I will be making plenty of fountain pen art videos this year so you'll get lots of inspiration to use whatever ink you get!!
Maggie, I am doing my very best to resist fountain pens, inks and Neocolor II each time you feature these, because your enthusiasm is infectious, even via a computer screen!!!!!!!! I use fountain pens in 5 different colours for my notes, but I know how unlikely it is for me to use them in drawing or painting, out of respect for their nibs as a writing tool - though I have used the inks with a brush and had a lot of fun. They're Waterman, and in no particular order: Absolute Brown, Harmonious Green, Inspired Blue (gorgeous turquoise!), Audacious Red and Tender Purple. Actually, they are all five beautiful! I use Winsor and Newton Indian Ink with a brush for monochrome paintings, too. The pens are Parker Vector, and cost a lot less now than when I bought them, at least ten years ago! I have a Parker 51 (with the rubber ink holder), in burgundy, which my parents gave me in 1969, a Conway Dinkie, with 18ct gold nib which I love, and have had since I was at school, but holds very little ink (again the rubber ink holder - I don't know its proper name!) and a chased silver Parker, which was probably my first cartridge pen, in the 1970's, but I'm not sure. And I also have a very precious WInnie the Pooh pen which was a gift from a fellow Pooh fan during the 1980's! Precious even though I absolutely loathe the Disney incarnations of Pooh, with his fat stomach and red jacket!!!! Why not Neocolor II? Because I have lots of watercolour pencils (various brands), which are almost certainly my most-used art supply of 2022, as I use them dry more often than wet, and I used them for the 160 page sketchbook challenge. Oh gosh, Maggie - have you made it to the end??? I didn't mean to give you this long list - it just sort-of happened, and I really ought to be heading for bed! 😄
How cool that you have those wonderful vintage fountain pens! You are smart to use the Waterman inks in those pens, they have a reputation of being the safest ink to use in vintage or expensive pens. I don't know why I haven't tried the inks yet, they have an amazing reputation and look like gorgeous shades/shaders! I hear you on the neocolors. I own some watercolor pencils but found the color payout on the neocolor II to be more bright/satisfying for my eye (the pencils tend to be a bit more muted). I think it's awesome that you did the 160 page sketchbook challenge at all, let alone with the pencils! Way to go!!
@@CreatingCuteArt Those pens weren't vintage when I got them, though. Just that I am vintage, and the pens have become vintage with me! They are precious to me, because of how they were given to me - eg for my parents, that Parker 51 was a *major* expense. The 51 has a story attached. I was in a meeting, sitting next to the chairman. he didn't have a pen, and leaned across and used my 51 before I could stop him! He had a heavy hand, and it damaged the nib. There was nothing I could say or do, and the 51 stayed in the drawer for the next around 10 / 15 years, as I couldn't get a replacement nib without returning it to Parker (which would cost more than I thought the pen was worth!), and I didn't want to lose it in the post.. It was only when I began watching TH-cam videos during the pandemic that a "How to repair your pen" video appeared randomly in my feed. I watched in amazement as he made a nib repair to a pen exactly like mine. I took a very deep breath, found my high-powered magnifying glass and looked at the nib (you can only see the tip) and it was exactly that problem! I had nothing to lose, so I watched the clip several times, and then did exactly what he said, and to my great joy (and relief, I have to add!) I now have a fully usable Parker 5! I can't remember who it was, but I must have written an ecstatic comment! The Parker Vector is the student pen of the Parker range, and is now selling for about £9 in the UK shops. Mine cost more than that back in the day, but they weren't expensive. I don't know the name of the silver pen. It isn't on it. It's slimmer than the 51, and has a more open nib (ie not all of it showing, but not as closed as the 51). BTW, I *never* , *ever* allow anyone else to use my fountain pens, or my paint brushes. I usually have a ballpoint if anyone needs it, and some 'spare' brushes (my first and only set of any sort, of W&N Sceptre Gold, back in the 1990's) that I always had in my bag when taking the ladies out, and for student use if they forget their own brushes. I've been using Waterman ink for years, because although we used Parker Quink in school and when I was a student nurse, because it was cheap and readily available, I didn't like it. I refill those that have cartridges with a syringe and needle (one for each colour). The watercolour pencils: When you use them, add a couple of drops of glycerine to about 50mls of the water you're using to activate them. You'll see a huge difference in the colour pay-out. Oh, and use a proper soft watercolour brush, not a water brush, because those nylon bristles tend to lift off the colour rather than bring it to life. Oops - another long post for this New Years Eve! I hope you're having a really happy time with Tuffy and the family, and doing some art work with the little ones.
I got myself the shire watercolors for christmas. Moonglow was on my wishlist but I saw a video showing its not lightfast 😮💨☹ Thank you for showing pieces youve made with the items youre showing!

What a lovely thing to say, thank you for your sweet comment, Noraliz!! I hope you have a wonderful New Year and I will see you in the 2023 comments!! 🤗🎊❤️🎉

And it was actually your channel that got me interested in using fountain pens, so I'll definitely be using them more next year. Hope you had a lovely Christmas!
Thank you, you too!! I will have to check out the Zebras, I don't think I've heard of those before? I've heard of the mild liners but haven't tried those either yet. What did you mostly like making with the bright colors (landscape, floral, portrait, etc)?

Hey.... I love your tips and the topics you share on your channel. I would love for you to do a vid all about fountain pens. I'd like to get into drawing with them as an alternate to Microns because of the different options of nibs and inks but I'm confused about the types and functions of pens available (some use a cartridge, a piston style, some need a converter????). What are your favorite sources? I'm sure other creatives would love a clarification. What do you think? (BTW- love that small clipboard in the travel bag- wonder if you've seen it sold separately?)
