    I truly believe this is one of the best videos you’ve done. As you mention, it really sets up everything else and I think where most people go wrong. If you aren’t doing this right, everything else you do later in the swing has to be some sort of a compensation

    Great video…I remember why I saved it. Takeaway part was very good, but not really my problem. The backswing part, especially the feel you should get REALLY helped me solve my problem, and was easy to follow, and not seen like that on many videos….Thanks Eric.

    This is a great drill and what I exactly struggle with. I am a single handicap golfer, but not as consistent as I can be. My backswing tends to be too shallow and my downswing is too steep. Complete opposite of what I want to do. I am hoping this video will turn things around for me. Thanks again for your awesome videos! Keep em coming!

      Marc, your comments mirror my game. I'm a Brit and play off 5 but too inconsistent so rely on a tidy short game to scramble more often than not. I'm going to work very hard re this video. My swing is club far too quick inside then far too steep downswing leads to an OTT contact and hard pulls or fades. Best wishes.

    Very helpful illustration of keeping the stick on your leg until first parallel. My tendency for years is to pick up the club away from the leg way outside causing me not to shift my weight properly. This image of keeping the stick on the leg really helps keep me rotating properly on the backswing. Now if I can only make it part of my natural swing so I don't have to think about it!

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Robert!
      That not thinking about it part should be expected to take months. I dont think that should be the short term goal.
      the short term is that you NEED to think about it....the goal isn't to remove that it's HOW to think about it thats the key.
      All the best

    A really great explanation Eric, it has given me more consistency and direction, plus I feel more confident when I have a narrow fairway to contend with. It needs a lot of practice for the first part of the takeaway but anyone who gets that right will turn more and strike the ball much better.

    Great lesson! I just had shoulder replacement, and I thought that I’d use the opportunity to reconstruct my swing. I have a net and 60 yard pitching range in my backyard. Taking easy swings off my mat, I’m hitting solid, effortless shots that are resulting in lofty, appropriately distanced ball flights. Excellent use of alignment sticks. Amazingly quick results.

    Great drill but I thought in the second part it was the stick was supposed to point just inside the ball line? Yours appeared to be about halfway on your real swing? Does that distance change as the club gets longer ie 9 iron versus driver? Your the best Eric!

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks!
      Thats right...I might exaggerating a bit here....
      You want the butt of club (stick) to point roughly AT or slightly inside the ball/target line when the lead arm is parallel in the backswing...
      This would be considered "on plane"

    Great instruction on the takeaway and transition into the top of the backswing. My question that I never hear addressed from any instructor, is when I make a full backswing and go past 90 degrees, I lose sight of the ball with my right eye (I’m right handed), and can only see the ball in my left eye periphery. I have some limited rotational flexibility in my neck (arthritis). Is the answer simply to make a shoulder turn to the maximum point that I can see the ball? Is this common? I can turn my shoulders about 80 degrees before losing sight but am able to physically rotate them about 95-100 degrees.

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      " Is the answer simply to make a shoulder turn to the maximum point that I can see the ball?"
      -Yes.
      "Is this common?"
      -Yes.
      You should not turn back as much then.....OR....see what else would need to change so you could (several micro parts there) (Neck rotation, thoracic extension, etc)

    Hey Eric great video! My backswing has recently become way too flat again 🤦‍♂️ Why might working on this cause a shank as you said in the video? Is it because the new feeling of a more vertical shaft on the backswing, although desirable, could drastically change path on the downswing for someone who is used to swinging flat?

    Eric, this video was part of my practice plan and I can rep in the mirror no problem. I start from the top and swing down perfectly. I look at video of my range session yesterday and I am not completing my backswing. My army instead of 90 is like at 45-50 and I fire from there. Is there a feel or a mental concept I can take to the range and course to know that I've finished my backswing and it's ok to swing down at that point?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Daniel! I'm not 100% sure that I follow what you are saying here BUT I THINK you are saying you need a feel to LENGTHEN your backswing?
      If so...
      1. Feel like the backswing takes an extra 2 seconds to complete. Not slower but takes longer like this: th-cam.com/video/qxFnjCqLL_8/w-d-xo.html
      2. You could put an object above that you need to get to like this: th-cam.com/video/Fedg7-TkoAA/w-d-xo.html

    Hi Eric, thanks always for the excellent instruction! That said on this piece, is the hand-forward okay since dogma(however erroneous) tells me to keep the uppercase ‘Y’ instead of the lower case ‘y’ this piece would yield.

    • @CogornoGolf

      Hey Joon!
      Are you taking about hands forward at setup?

      @JoonOh1109 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Eric Cogorno Golf Correct.

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hands just inside left thigh at setup would be the "stock" setup.....so hands slightly forward with shorter clubs and more in line with longer clubs...
      So slightly more lower case Y than upper case.
      Of course that's a "Stock" answer....not all good players do it.
      Would need to see your swing to say for YOU what you would need to do

    Hey Eric, i have been working on the 10 to 4 Drill for a couple of months now to get rid of my over the top motion. Would you say its productive for me to have such a steep Shaft on the top or would a Shallower angle on the top be easier for me to get shallower in the downswing?

    Hey Eric. Seen a tonne of videos that use the alignment rod through the grip like this. A question I've always had though. Is this still the same position you find your hands in WITHOUT the rod? or is it just an exaggeration because the drill requires it? It looks like most pros have the butt of the club pointing more towards the body at address.

    Great video Eric. I am trying to solve for going too far back on the back swing. Turn too much so go past parallel. Started having my back swing start with just arms and then hinge vs. starting with body turn. Is this an acceptable move? Has improved my consistency with every club except driver.

    • @CogornoGolf
