Interesting. I've just done a repair on a 2.0 D4D Avensis (Denso pump) with a similar issue, the SCV was at fault. The SCV regulates the feed pressure between the lift pump (inside the HP pump) and the 2 high pressure stages of the HP pump and is vital to maintaining the common rail pressure within the correct range, the fault was easily and quickly identified on a graphing scantool. Be aware not all SCV valves are the same - some are normally open and some are normally closed, there is only a minute difference in appearance of the two types; these two types are not interchangeable.
Interesting, the scan tool I have could not monitor the fuel rail pressure. I had seen people recommending to fit a later long body scv, but the car has been running perfectly and starting great all the time since the repair so I have not looked any further into this.
In relation to my comment yesterday in the other video related to the scv, I also thank you for publishing all these tests in this video. I would like to share the tests that I did on our 2.0 d4d 126hp engine: Surely it is a coincidence, but I carried out quite a few of the tests mentioned here, although we have not changed any components since I highly doubt that something in the injection system is broken , so my actions were to clean the mass air flow sensor, clean injector connectors, fully charge the battery (about 6 hours disconnected from the car) and then dismantle the original scv valve to perform an internal cleaning with brakes-cleaner fluid and isopropyl alcohol. The car is 17 years old and the week before cleaning the SCV the idle was unstable, it was increasingly difficult to start and it ejected a lot of black smoke when accelerating hard. The results as soon as I installed the clean SCV valve were surprising, the car immediately returned to normal. When I saw in your previous SCV video that you installed a compatible one purchased on eBay from China, I suspected that this was not a good solution and now in this video it is clear to me that it was not. My next actions will be to continue monitoring the fuel consumption and operation of the car, I would like to be able to clean the scv valve better since I could not remove the circlip that blocks the inner cylinder, I have to get a tool to be able to do it without breaking anything. I would also like to tell you that Toyota replaced the original valve model with an improved one since the first one had problems over the years, I have been able to confirm this with Toyota. It is also true that in countries like Scotland, calls were made to users to change the SCV due to problems with fuels with an inadequate proportion of sulfur (info obtained on internet...), I think it is important to share it. If it's okay with you, I'll share my results in this video. Thanks and greetings again.
With respect to all the solutions, for people in UK, use Tesco regular fuel or premium is even better, after every month or two. If Tesco fuel is not available then Esso. Keep your fuel tank between 30% to 60%, if possible. So you have enough fuel additives for a better start. Tesco or Esso fuel additives, is the key to solve D4D cold start issues. Just fill with Tesco Premium fuel and see the difference in engine performance yourself. Best of luck!
Thanks for replies. An idea for another video I would like to see would be on your android radio sat nav. Any good? Recommended? Cost etc. As good as Google maps on phone? Many thanks for your content and replies.
Will do, I spread myself a little thin across platforms and channels. I installed the head unit with the intention of a review, but other things have taken precedence.
After you Re fitted original suction control valve and drained all power from ecu did it Re set everything quicker than first time? Have corolla verso with 2.2 and starts no problems but was weak on power. Possibly could still be better. Oil and filter fuel filter etc etc all done. Was wondering if I do the reset whether it would be better or after cleaning egr plus intake manifold will it Re learn anyway. A bit wary of Re set as Don't know radio code and if it messes up don't have Toyota money 😂
I don’t think the original head unit had a radio code? I have a android head unit in this vehicle. I would try the Lucas egr cleaner first. I have a video on this. Once I have cleaned it, the car was quicker. Also the mannol fuel additive shaved 0.5 seconds of the 0-60
@@glchow But in the video you mention faulty readings from the maf or whatever variant, that would of caused this miss readings no, I watched the reset/learning video. I've come across it as I'm looking at an estate with a similar issue. Haven't got the car yet, but people mention injectors too. Your mpg was horrible wondering if that was due to a heavy foot on test :D Keep umming and arghhing over one when the 2.2 honda variant seems better, but rarer.

Soory Just to say it's running pretty good now. A lot better after all the work. But still intrigued whether Re set would still improve. Many thanks
The engine improved in performance and refinement after the reset
Thanks for replies.

Also as you seem to have same motor t180?
Do you know how I can retrieve the radio code before trying any of this? Many thanks
I you take the car with proof of ownership to a Toyota dealer they should give you the code for free
How reset ecu , by disconnecting battery negative terminal? For how many time?
I put the link in the description

What was the problem? Mine has started perfectly since using the Mannol Diesel Jet Cleaner. I've changed all the filters and glow plugs. Best wishes
Now this example starts perfectly. I showed a clip in the video, it would crank constantly and eventually start but run poorly.
So it was the MAF sensor that caused the whole issues?
No it just needed a basic reset. The faulty battery had messed the engine adaptions.

i will try , tnx 🤞
Let me know how you get on. I haven’t had any feedback yet
