So ass that Octopath 2 didn't get nominated for Best OST for TGA 2023.
Not even nominated for best RPG either when it's the most faithful game (besides BG3) to that category. If anything, the backlash is actually getting people into the game which is a huge middle finger to Geoff and TGA, and a big win for us. I'm never going to shut up about this game and its OST, it deserves so much more recognition especially in the west
thats because game of the year is a corrupted event used by the rich people to laundry money for those stupid gamers who attend there.
They got effin snubbed for real.
It makes no sense
I love ff16 but i was the only one who can compete with octopath, and i still see octo 2 win since he is so crazy
Octopath music never disappoints, Nishiki truly is one of the best composers we have right now, he's insane
I play the mobile game , even here he throw some masterpieces , they're fucking good
Fun fact: From all three Octopath games, COCT have most singing, not only opera 😅.
@@Elyakel oh yeah, I played CotC for a while and the music in that game is crazy, sad I didn't like the gacha as much
@@hamettjuan i hate gacha too
But in cotc you can win with bad team too so it's not a big problem here
If you manage to pull 1 or 2 good unit you're good to go
The more you play the more you have good characters
@@Elyakel not that I hate gacha in general, it was this game's specifically. It felt like I had to grind forever to pull in one banner and for the pity system to actually reward you with something you had to pull a lot, aside from that the other issue was leveling my characters, it felt a bit difficult and I wasn't able to progress in the story sometimes because of it I feel which sucks cause it's what hooked me the most aside from the amazing OST. Maybe some of these things have been fixed since I stopped playing, I played it around the time it launched and for a couple months after so it's been a while.
I legitimately started tearing up in the transition during Vide's second phase. They throw in something that I don't think has ever been done before: they let you go absolutely HAM and use all 8 of your party members instead of just 4 at a time, freely swapping between groups and committing a violence. I just beat this game a few months ago and it has been living in my head rent free since.
My First Playthrough, when I got to that phase 2 and got that message as the 8 Travelers fight together, I stood up from my couch and played standing, I was so hyped up
Octopath Traveler 2 is my personal game of the year for 2023. Without question. It took what OT1 had and improved nearly if not EVERYTHING about it (essentially what a sequel SHOULD be, and you don’t find many that do that). I spent 161 hours and regret absolutely none of them. And yeah, Nishiki and the composition team went PSYCHOTIC on this soundtrack.
I think the thing I like about Nishiki's work on Octopath is that he sounds like the culmination of generations of JRPG composers. You can hear influences from the greats like Uematsu, Mitsuda, and Shimomura all kinda wrapped into one.
And now you're really starting to see why Nishiki is seen by many as the next coming of Nobuo Uematsu. If you seen his interviews and Q&As, you'll see how _insanely_ dedicated to his work he is, to the point where he made separate day and night themes to all the areas of OT2 when he really didn't need to. The area themes have vocals in them too, though they're more serene and low-key than these, obviously.
The combination of operatic vocals with chaotic metal instruments in Vide's battle theme is truly a highlight for his boss themes, in my opinion. It really sells that darkness and turbulence that goes on for a fight against the setting's local god of night and darkness. It also goes hand-in-hand with one of the biggest hype moments of the game. No really, the very _second_ the guitars kick into overdrive with Those Who Deny the Dawn, you get to use all eight playable characters at once in the fight, whereas before you only get to control four at a time. It's quite the "you really had to be there" kind of moment, and it's the deciding in making Vide one of the coolest boss fights I've experienced.
A few fun facts: According to Nishiki in his Q&As (which you can Google), the male operatic singer's name is Toshiaki Murakami, and the genders of the singers in both final boss themes represent the characters who brought forth the final bosses in question. The lyrics for all of the vocals in the series' soundtrack are also in an invented language, as opposed to, say Latin, because Nishiki wanted the words to work as smoothly as possible with the melodies.
I do think phase 2 Vide is just my favorite final boss of all time. When the menu popped up to explain the switching between parties, I let out an audible "OH SHIT" and was absolutely rocking out to the music.
And while not as nearly as hard as Galdera, Vide's no pushover either. I've been seeing threads pop up on places like Reddit where people say they can't beat him. Insane fight
Soken and Nishiki, I am struggling to see which is my fav cause both are amazing successors to Uematsu
@@SILVERONIN Interesting enough. How I viewed Nobuo Uematsu and Yasunori Mitsuda, is a similar way how i compare and see Soken and Nishiki.
@@ALeafOnTheWind42
In case you wanted a harder Vide, they just shadowdropped a new OT2 update that added a True Vide battle and a True Vide the Wicked battle. And it makes Galdera look like child’s play.
Octopath 2's soundtrack is absolutely my OST of the year. Like how can it not? I hummed along to the whole soundtrack throughout my long playthrough, and the final boss theme was THIS AMAZING. Never have I ever heard opera and metal together, but I LOVE IT!
Aside from the black mages darkness and starlight..if u havnt hear it lol
it deserves OST of the year
FF16@@SILVERONIN
i believe GTA this year, for best sound tracks oct2 not even a nomination 😂
FF16 is gonna win and it's not even close.
A little bit more people, we almost got him
If i remember correctly, Yasunori Nishiki was responsible for the One Winged Angel arrangement in FF7 Remake. This man's insane
Yep ! And you can also clearly hear his influence in the "Gigantopede" track of FF7 remake.
I havent finished an Octopath game so I never heard this prior to this but man it was incredible. I dont think The Game Awards will be complete without this being at least nominated for soundtrack of the year.
I knew the second you got to Vide's 2nd phase with all the guitar work, the sunglasses would go on. Octopath 1 and 2 are among the greatest soundtracks ever, im glad you felt like I did when i first hear Vide's songs especially
"Can finally rest a bit."-- Is something I WISH I could say while fighting these bosses. Seriously some of the toughest fights ever. Yasanori Nishiki, my dude! My guy! you can't keep getting away with this. All his music is so insanely good (Even for the mobile game!). So glad you listened to all these together, the transition pieces are so seamless and even the game swap you can just see how they all pair together. I think of each moment in the game so fondly and I'll NEVER forget what I felt with each concluding fight. I know you are so busy but if you ever choose to play Octopath know you will not be disappointed. Thank you again for the amazing video, Jesse!
Vide the Wicked is hella goated
Yasunori Nishiki is incredible. And, he’s only 38 years old - hopefully we will be listening to his work for decades to come.
Yayyyyy. I'm so glad you loved this. Okay, information dump time. There will be some spoilers here, but since you already know the names Galdera and Vide, there's not too much more beyond that.
Galdera is the final boss of Octopath 1. Vide (pronounced Vee-day- yes, there should probably be an accent on the "e", but oh well) is the final boss of Octopath 2. Both are 2 phase encounters. So the way it goes is this:
The One They Call the Witch (Galdera phase 1)
Moment of Truth (after defeating Galdera phase 1, this plays as a transition piece to...)
Daughter of the Dark God (Galdera phase 2)
Lifting the Veil (an introductory piece. This is sort of like the In Pursuit of X tracks that you heard in your last Octopath 2 reaction. It leads into...)
Vide, the Wicked (Vide phase 1)
Those Who Hope for the Dawn (after defeating Vide phase 1, this plays as a transition piece to...)
Those Who Deny the Dawn (Vide phase 2)
As for Underworldly Entity, well... See, in Octopath 1, Galdera is not just the final boss, but he's difficult enough that he's considered by pretty much everyone to be a superboss. Then in Octopath 2... They also made Galdera a hidden superboss (somehow even harder than he was in Octopath 1), and Underworldly Entity is used for both phases of Galdera in 2.
As for vocals, yes, this is the first time you've heard vocals in Octopath. In the first game, The One They Call the Witch and Daughter of the Dark God are the only time vocals are used. In Octopath 2, they're used a lot more, though most of the time they're use for nighttime versions of various pieces. There are a couple of exceptions to that though. If you're curious, the lyrics are a made-up language. They sound kind of Latin-esque, but they are not actually Latin.
At any rate... Octopath 2 came out in February, and there's a reason it is my OST of the year. Bar none. Nishiki is absolutely insane. You said in your last Octopath reaction that you think he'll go down in history as one of the greats, alongside names like Uematsu and Mitsuda. I couldn't agree more. Incredible composer.
Well, whether there should be an accent or not depends on the phonetics of the language it’s based on so in many languages, the accent-less Vide will be pronounced the same as in-game. My langage f.e., if you’d add the accent it’d be pronounced Vih-djeh and without the account it’d be Vih-deh if I were to explain it to an English speaking person, neither of which aligns with the correct pronounciation in the game.
Yasunori Nishiki is absolutely my favorite video game composer of all time. There's really nothing like his work.
Nishiki's diversity is something you rarely get to listen to. I'm forever amazed by just how many styles, genres, instruments and influences he manages to pull together to create a musically breathing world. Incredible composer. Always excited to hear he's involved in a piece
As an aside - I can't be the only one to prefer The One They Call Witch more than Daughter of the Dark God, right?
Daughter is obviously a slammin' hottie of a track, with so much depth to it, but there's something about the intensity of Witch that grips me in a completely different way
Yeah I knew the glasses were coming at one point or another 😁
Thank you for heeding our requests
Octopath 2 boss music just unreal damn
Vide's final boss theme (from 2) is my favorite final boss theme in gaming.
OT2 does something I haven't seen in any other game (maybe I haven't looked hard enough) where they have 5-6 different transition themes (all pretty similar variants) into the phase 2 song depending on what part of the phase 1 theme is playing when you start the transition.
You've got to listen to Invitation to Darkness from Octopath 2. It is the lead up into the boss fight and is a bit of a rendition of The Gate of Finis from the first game and it is SO GOOD!! Got to be one of my favorite tracks. And it's only used for a 30 second cutscene, like why did Nishiki go so crazy for just that cutscene?? It's so good!!
No wonder they called him for FFVII Remake (and probably Rebirth as well I guess)
Yasunori Nishiki is the man \m/
The whole soundtracks from both games are just stellar, there's no such thing as a bad or even mid track in these games
Thank you for reviewing these tracks~
I spoiled myself by accidentally finding the Gate wide open so casually in OT2, but I had to know if it was a banger before dying in 1 turn. It was absolutely worth it.
Its both hilarious and terrifying you only need to do like 2 quests and pick up all 8 travelers to do 2's superboss
So, I thought the Gate was going to have to do with the story boss in OT2. So after I beat it I’m like “Wait, then what’s the gate for?” When I went in and started the Galdera fight I’m like “NAAAAHHHHH I ain’t doing this hell again” and immediately turned it off 😂
@@hideharu-xiii8852 So in my opinion, the worst part about Galdera in 1 is being locked behind the boss rush, which you have to do every time you fail. There's no boss rush in 2, which means the entirety of your time trying to kill it is spent on the actual fight. Which to my mind makes it better
@@ALeafOnTheWind42 I agree with you on the boss rush being a gigantic pain. But the Galdera fight itself was suffering and I’m not willing to go through another onset of PTSD lol
@@hideharu-xiii8852 That's fair. I guess I can't really argue because I didn't really want to bash my head against a wall, but still wanted to beat it, so I looked up a strategy. I beat it in 3-4 tries, and the first 1 or 2 didn't really count.
Man I"ve been waiting for The One They Call The Witch, it's SO GOOD
Octopath Traveler 2 was so awesome. I really liked the music and the fact that they merged their storylines together and made them all have involvement and actual storyline interactions in the final part, at the same time being able to use all your party members in battle at the same time.
a masterpiece masterpiecing like there is no tomorrow
I hope someone asks for Octopath COTC music (specifically the 8 'boss' themes)-- it's just more of Yasunori Nishiki's brilliance but in the Octopath mobile game (which, by the way, is extremely good).
bestower of all is epic
it's like you hear the boss's POV in these tracks
I'm very excited to hear what Nishiki does next 'cause, dayum, everything he touches is straight-fire.
Yeah the music and story in Octopath games is very humbling and cleansing, so I can relate to this speechless reaction.
Octopath soundtrack is so good, I use a lot of it for intense moments in my D&D campaign.
Octopath Traveler 1 & 2 have the best all around OSTs in video game history to me. Boss themes ESPECIALLY! I can't recommend playing it enough. Octopath 1 was already great and then they just made everything 10x better in Octopath 2, which I didn't think was possible. The stories aren't directly connect too, so you can really jump in at either.
How this game was not nominated as best music????
Because the people who rate those games haven’t heard the whole OST or didn’t play the game altogether.
Absolutely amazing. This is video game music (and just music in general) at its finest.
Galdera might be a tougher boss fight, but Vide has the better theme song, and that's what really matters.
Those Who Deny the Dawn hit me like a ton of bricks and it's such a badass song to a memorable game and adventure.
People must make him react to all themes linked to the ring bearers from champion of the continent
Even the 8 sazantos themes
So glad you did this. Thank you !
Love those boss themes! Give me major early Nightwish vibes
Jesse I actually bought Octopath Traveler 2 today coz I heard the music and was like I just have to play this game now, you and me thinking alike when it comes to playing games mostly based on the music hehe, keep it up with the vids my man hope to see a lot more ^^
I'm so glad you finally got to this wonderful piece! I wasn't expecting the suite, but boy howdy am I not complaining about it.
"The One They Call The Witch" is phase 1 of the final boss. I spent a very long time just bopping to this song, progging the first phase. Throwing my all at that godforsaken eye until it finally died.
"Moment of Truth" is a transitional piece. The camera moves upward, revealing the full god that we're fighting. And our second party. And you realize, oh fuck, we're screwed.
"Daughter of the Dark God" is phase 2. And the first time I got here, it just slapped me and I died. And I went back and progged with my weaker party to save the "good" party for phase 2.
"Unworldly Entity" is from OT2. OT2 doesn't have a lot of connections to 1, with its own story and world and everything. There are some connections, sure, but nothing super major like a sequel or anything. And then you get to fight the secret boss, the final boss from OT1, and he's *mad.* It plays throughout both phases 1 and 2.
"Lifting the Veil" plays as you approach the final boss, and the guy is monologuing at you.
"Vide, the Wicked", pronounced "vee-day", is phase 1 of the final boss. One thing I really like is how this has that operatic tone, but it's a male voice instead of a female, since Vide is summoned by a man and Galdera was summoned by a woman.
"Those Who Hope for the Dawn" is the transitional piece. No, we won't go down without a fight!
"Those Who Deny the Dawn" is phase 2, and what I put together for you. Let me tell you, when this kicked in and all of your characters came in, I was so hyped.
Overall, I cannot recommend Octopath enough. You can pick up 1 or 2, they're not connected at all aside from a few lore pieces. Thank you for listening and enjoying!!
Without spoiling much, one thing I love about these tracks is that the vocals represent each game’s respective character who paved the way for the main antagonist. For Octo 1, that being a women who helped bring back Galdara; and for Octo 2, a man who helped bring back Vide.
Such amazing tracks and great reaction!
Idk how many times I've listened to Vide the Wicked and associated themes this year... wouldn't surprise me if it was in the neighborhood of 80+.
Octopath too good.
Also, the split is not by a game but by a boss. When the woman was singing, it was Galdera. When the man was singing, it was Vide.
If you loved this one you will love cotc is the gacha game of octopath traveler and has for me one of the best ost of the octopath traveler saga.
What a god level OST
Always down for more Octopath
FINALLY.
IVE BEEN WAITING SO LONG AND YOU GOT THOSE WHO DENY THE DAWN!
If you're interested there's an official remix of galdera's theme in a more metal style from the break and boost live concert
lets fuckin goooooooooooooooo! worth the wait! love you reactions!
I still think the final boss is the best fight in both games
IT'S TIME!
I admittedly hadn't heard the second one's music yet, omg.
It’s very very good, recommend
The only OST that I can say trumps both Octopath games would be Bravely Default 1 and that is saying something. BD mainly gets extra points for the epic use of leitmotifs especially in the final boss battle. That said, these are the best OSTs I've heard and I can only hope we we get more games with music as good as these.
jesse getting lost in a song is the most godly shit
Progmetal makes the sickest boss theme lol
If you loved this final boss songs, you will love Yu-gi-oh Master Duel and Octopath Traveler Champions of the Continent Ost composed by him. 😎
Yes, finally!
When I first fought Vide (2nd boss track in this video) I lost a few times cause I was so entranced by the vocalists POPPING OFF! Amazing track especially the opening with the organs! I also prefer Galdera (boss fight 1) theme in Octopath Traveler 1!
14:30
I love Octopath II's OST. You should really listen to "For the Dawn" and "Journey for kingship ends", best battle themes of the entire game.
3:04
🎵 Souls that once lay dormant,
Writhing ever faster,
Seek to spread the torment
Of their watchful master 🎵
7:44
🎵 He of steel and fire,
Gods denied his rapture,
You will know his ire,
Power he shall capture 🎵
To quote a certain white shirt wearing religious figure:
“WOOOOO YEAH BABY! Thats what I’ve been waiting for, that’s what it’s all about!!”
😎
I love you
Operatic black metal
God damn
I hope some people listen to the Octopath Traveler Champions of the Continent because its OST its equal or better than the OT1 and OT2 OST. Listen to Sazantos themes for example.
The final boss themes from OT1 and OT2 are incredible.
How OT2 didn’t get OST of the year is beyond me ..
I’m sure you’re familiar with them, but your comment about not hearing opera with drums makes me want to recommend for your personal off channel listening the band Nightwish. Additionally, there’s some on the FF6 Overclocked Remix which is free, and was done with kickstarter funding to buy the rights to legally make fan remixes of the music. But that might cut into your ff6 stuff for the channel.
The Impresario!
react to Last Cloudia's OSTs please! the main theme,or the deserted beach,or Path of Light.
Why don't you take a look octopath traveler champions of the continent final boss ost?
I've requested Bestower of All and Chosen by the Light. May put in Sazantos the Divine Champion and Or'sazantos soon. Either way it will probably be quite awhile until he gets to them, I imagine
666 likes i wont like it to dont break the number!
Ot2 got snubbed in the 2023 game awards
I think ff16 had the best soundtrack but ot2 deserved a nomination
Definitely wouldve replaced alan wake 2 or bg3
Hey is there any chance you can react to the honkai impact 3 animations the game has some really awesome music also
FF16 has some bangers for sure, but I hope Octopath Traveler 2 wins best soundtrack this year. I mean… the first one lost to Red Dead Redemption 2 of all things…
I don't expect it to win only because The Game Awards is generally just a popularity contest, and unfortunately, it doesn't have the popularity. I'll just be glad if it gets nominated
@@ALeafOnTheWind42 Yes the game awards is purely INDUSTRY
@@ALeafOnTheWind42 agree somewhat I will say tho I’m noticing more and more people picking up OT2 more! (And then playing 1)
