That way you can hear the amount of production value that went into making what are already amazing songs even better, into what they were always meant to be if you will. It also helps to have an appreciation for how far these songs have come.

It's insane how dynamic this track is. Everytime you think it's going to end, it keeps going. It throws another curveball, and then another. Another part, another section. Add some choir, why not? Just when you think it hit its climax, it raises the bar again for the next bit. It's incredible.

"How do people play this [while listening to this music]??"
I suggest watching/listening to the video by Liam Triforce titled 'Understanding the Music of DOOM'. He gives a rather solid theory on why tracks like this (and in DOOM) are made this way; they push our mind to make decisions faster and snappier to go along with the adrenaline pumping music, especially in DOOM. But you can feel it here too. It has a crazy composition in the later phases that push you into making faster decisions. At least, that's what I think.

Imagine spending the last few decade or so listening to the old song, still being hype about it. Getting a redo of the song every now and then for anniversaries or for the Advent Children movie. Only for the remake to drop such a faithful remake of a song while also taking it their own way. Even watching someone play it you just get excited when the music kicks in and you recognise what it is almost immediately and get hyped all over again like when the og game came out. Every time I hear the songs from the remake it tickles the nostalgia bone so hard it practically shatters it.

I’m glad you liked it. Theres something I need to tell you is that while the original is composed by Nobuo Uematsu, the remake is made mainly by Tadayoshi Makino (I imagine with Nobuo’s stamp of approval). Ofcourse without Nobuo’s original work, it wouldn’t exist but Tadayoshi knocked it out of the park so hard it nearly outclassed the original. Both are genius in their own way and deserve their fame.

    • @scotch1148
      @scotch1148 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

I wouldn't say it outclassed the original completely, to me at least, with all the restrictions they had at the time, the original is one of the best songs of any video game music, because of the restrictions and overall song they had managed to output. That's just me though, I know a lot of people dislike using the age of a song to prop it up.

If he could have made the song with the technology available for the PS5, it’d probably be an entirely different beast. Especially since this version was arranged by someone else (Tadayoshi Makino).

the original FFVII soundtrack is what got me really loving music and wanting to learn more and more about it until eventually I started picking up instruments, studied music theory, and am working towards a career in music. It holds a near and dear place in my heart and Nobuo Uematsu has had a bigger impact on me as a musician than anyone else.
Every track you will hear from VII (or any FF game honestly) is pure gold. I know you also really like pretty piano music, and for that, I would recommend Tifa's Theme also from FFVII. The original is still really pretty despite being on the ps1, but the arrangement for remake is just absolutely beautiful. Highly recommend Tifa's Theme when you want a real pretty piano fix. Aerith's Theme is also really good for that, but that one makes me cry lol.

FF7 has some of my favourite music in the playstation era, the amount of absolute technological witchcraft they did to make it work with the console's memory is something else. I'm glad you listened to the original before the awesome as heck Airbuster remake version, as it gave you some context for the effort in the remake. As for how we play while listening, I dunno about others but it's usually a lot of head bobbing at the same time for me haha. Something fun about Airbuster version is, like with the other bosses, it's dynamic! The song only changes when you hit the next phase of the boss. No one that I know expected the last phases of the track on their first play and that's what knocked us right out about it! I hope that one day you get a chance to try the games you're always getting recommended, it's so good to hear a track while you play and it can often enhance the experience of both.
Happy holidays, jesse, I hope you have a good year!

When ff7 was released a lot of people were concerned it was a masterpiece because of the story, music, ambiance was so well put together. It pulled you into it, forgetting that you are holding a controller. They did the best they could with the system at hand but were limited. Now technology has come so far that they were able to make it as we all saw it back then. And how do we play while listening to the music? As the fight changes and transition happens the music changes with it, intensifying everything. I can only speak for a few when I say It pulls you into a trance that only breaks when the boss is defeated giving you a breather. Being the background to what's happening on screen but not playing second fiddle at the same time (for the lack of better words).

The thing is, the airbuster in the original FFVII was a pretty simple boss. They went extra hard both on the music and the fight here. In a way they didn't need to.
This fight, by the way, was Barret's time to shine.

Best guess is because it's the first boss theme you get in FF VII and it just completely kicks your ass while fighting that boss and motivating you. It's classic textbook Nobuo prog rock epicness, and I'm guessing people wanted you to hear it and compare as an example of how fluidly Nobuo's compositions can be translated from synth to real live musicians so perfectly.

The whole FF7 remake/rebirth album (and Advent Children too) is basically Nobuo going apeshit on every genre concieved by mankind, I don't really think there's another way to describe it, except "Masterpiece" of course.
This one in particular, it just keeps going... when you think it's peaking, it changes and goes even higher, over and over again.
I can easily imagine a round table for Remake going pretty much like this:
Producer: "What style are you thinking for the soundtracks?"
    Nobuo: "Yes."

Hey Good Uncle Jesse, been watching your channel for awhile. Nice playlist you got there ! Really like the reactions. It shows how much you are involved in music and how much you appreciate the art and the craft of others.
Recently, I just remembered, there is another banger song from a franchise people would not guess at first. From Pokemon Diamond and Pearl: "Approaching Cynthia" theme. Very short, but very uplifting piano track.
There is also "Cynthia battle theme" from the remake Brilliant Pearl and Shining Diamond (because the remake is orchestral, I think) which could make an interesting duo for a reaction. It's not the usual heartbreaking, mountain moving piece of music that you react to often, but I respect it nonetheless since, when I listen to it, it brings a smile.
    Cheers Good Uncle Jesse !

I've been binging your Final Fantasy videos for the past 2 hours or so, lol. You've got great content on your channel. I love seeing first time reactions to some of my favorite video game music.
There's a suggestion I'd like to make, just in case you have time for it at some point: there's a great 20-minute mini documentary on Nobuo Uematsu, the main composer for the first ten FF games here on TH-cam. It's called G4 Icons, and it's from 2004. You'd get some good background info for some of the stuff you've already listened to or may still encounter. I've seen it dozens of times at this point because Uematsu is no doubt my favorite composer in gaming.
