The way this series changes the status quo and recontexualizes previous events is done better than any show I have ever seen before! It deserves all the love and more!
It does it all so smoothly too. AoT takes these insane moments that would be the season finale in most shows and then reveals that 's just the set up for some even crazier stuff, all while remaining focused on its themes. It's a materclass.
@@VogJam It really is. Funny thing is, when it came out people said that it was the Game of Thrones of Anime. That pissed off a lot of Game of Thrones fans who said Attack on Titan was way too basic and juvenile to be compared to Game of Thrones. Well, look how the tables have turned!
Attack on Titan is one of those shows where re-watching it gets better with each time. You notice details and hints that you never noticed before and see the themes weaving their way through it all and tying it together. The story feels insane, yet inevitable.
@@ThatAnimeSnob That's literally what every character ever written is. I get that AOT is not your thing, but I see characters like Armin, Erwin, Floch and Levi as characters who's goals, personalities and beliefs inform their actions and change the story. I will agree that Mikasa is pretty much a cardboard cutout though (sorry Mikasa fans).
@@thaumaticpig Stop using the writer does whatever he wants excuse. Characters with free will act as they should in story and not as the writer wants them to.
two things that stuck with me to this day when watching it the first time a few years ago: 1. The show did not seem to spare its characters. It was horrifying and the feeling of helplessness showed. Like.. "Wasn't that the main character?" 2. At 5:34 "rooting for them". With shots like these, no generic background characters but everyone having their unique design, I couldn't help but feel proud for the Scouts and later mourning every death
I may actually give it another try. I gave up after the obvious "he's a secret Titan so actually they'll all just randomly end up that way too later" thing
I stopped reading the manga after they save Historya in the beginning because I got tired of the classic "titans are bad let's kill them, also every character dies because subverting expectations is fun" but then anfriend actually spoiled that they are on an island and that there is more to the story, which made me gain interest in it again. Never regretted reading the rest
you should rewatch the show, it gets even better the second time. all the foreshadowing you didnt understand before seem completely clear, you see all moments completely differently.
It relied too much on spectacle, jump scares, and mystery. Once you see the whole thing most of those supposed positives fall flat. The characters are disposable puppets, the reveals take away the horror of the mysterious titans, the whole war with the Marley is mostly dull, and the ending is universally hated.
The ending is not universally hated nor does it retroactively ruin the show. You sound like one of those fans who were 100% onboard with the show until the ending and you didn't like the message Isayama gave.

Genuinely in awe at the last paragraph you wrote up. Amazing writing and an amazing video.
Thanks!

You also realize everyone is a mindless puppet that behaves however the plot wants him to

@@thaumaticpig you are wrong about Mikasa.

So happy it lived up to all the hype.

Don't worry, I have every intention of rewatching in build up to Season 4 part 3. It'll hit different that second time.

Name checks out
Almost hated due to um non canon ending per say

"universally hated" lmao sure, speak for the majority that doesn't
