One thing I love about guitarists, pianists, violinists, celloists, "covering" popular pop, rock, metal songs, is that strips away pretenses of genre and music style, and exposes just the melodies. Illuminating the fact that these artists are truly talented songwriters/musicians. Don't discount someone because they play with lots of distortion, or their voices aren't.... angelic..... My mom had nothing but contempt for hard rock/metal music.... so I started playing these types of covers to her... it helped to break down her barrier.
Agree 100%. Many people think rock and metal is just about noise and anger....but when it is stripped down like this it exposes the true musical talent that created it.
@@Gambo916 Agreed 100 % but this is the worst song to even talk about being metal lol my favorite music is melodic death metal and one of those songs would have been a better example. I do agree with you though :D
Exactly! This tune could have been written at many other points along the historical highway. I remember I was puzzled as a kid when I read Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple declare his love for J.S. Bach. I am no longer puzzled. Let’s remember: we ourselves erect the barriers that we perceive to exist between musical styles. They (both the walls and the styles) are social constructs, like so many other things we perceive to be real.
Amen, I'm a hip hop head and this surpasses genres. This is just pure talent and good music.
It’s a valid point for such popular music as actually has good melody. Much it it does not. This artist has chosen Californication because it has excellent melody. It is no indication he could pick any popular music and do the same.

An inspiration to any player , I played or tried to play guitar as a youngster , but gave it up , I stumbled upon soren madsen 2 years ago , it inspired me to start playing again at the age of 72 , 2 years on and I'm still enthusiastic and have mastered a lot of sorens performances , not as good I hasten to add . Thanks soren you've made an old man very happy . Brian williams

There’s nothing magical in guitars that would give a bust of “betterness”, it’s just a string instrument with own distinguishable timbre. But who matters most is performer. His selection of what would be played out of any particular song with just 6 strings controlled with 2 hands does influence vastly if it would sound great or not too.

William Lewis of course. but that goes with any instrument. It has a different effect on me than the studio version. and yes he has made it that way. but thats the thing about classical guitar. it opens up new possibilities.

This was one of the very first pieces that I played in a band-setup in music school. It may sound corny, but it really was a magic experience, having three people come together and make music. I was playing the guitar back then (except on this piece I somehow ended up playing bass).
