I own an NS7III, and from what I see here it's not enough for me to drop.1,500$ on this to replace my NS7III. MY NS7III is a tank it's a workhorse. It works well amd I never read line I adjust my mains and volumes in practice to Be prepared for that. And as for the four channel or 2 channels I use the Mike on my channel 4 as a dedicated mike output and like it so I can add effects from the Dedicated channel ..I also like the 3 screens on the NS7III. For the most part it's like the same basic Concept as the NS7III... so I'm good.. however what I do like is the larger Platters that looks nice. The biggest sell9ng point is the Lather Platters but a downside is the lack of Screens and the lack of Effects.. when I do mixes I add effects sometimes as a signature to my blends to make the mix my own..
The NS7-series are tanks there are no doubt. For me the quality of the soundcard (and multiple that x2), shedding nearly 10 pounds and having a smaller profile, the better feeling platters, the more utilitarian feel of Rane vs. the more gimmicky feel of Numark; those are all huge reasons for me to switch. It's not going to be for everyone. If you need 4 channels then it's def not for you, if you play it hot it's not for you. But for many, this is the new benchmark. Also a new NS7iii was $1499 so it's priced the same at launch. Actually if you want to get real technical, if you take the inflation calculator back to 2015 it was released for $1636 in 2020 dollars.
Let's just say that you get hired to dj a party and the person likes your demo tape or whatever and hires you ( any genre) even (if it is hip hop) as long as you rock the it doesn't matter what you us the rane 1 design for turntablist so I have had a hard time adjusting to dvs so the rane 1 is a no-brainer for me 300 dollar set of needles can kiss my you no what peace
But to let the be told when I first saw the rane1 the ns7111 came to mind if I had a ns7111 i wouldn't be in a hurry to get rid of it either it is also for turntablist
I have not bought any DJ gear since Technics 1210's back in the 90's. I wanted to get back into DJing, but I just never ever accepted the idea of static Jog wheels, first seen on the Pioneer CDJ1000. Coming from 1210's, there is just a feel that I need, to get a song in time, and that just was not replicated by static jog wheels. Fast forward to 2021, and RANE out of nowhere, answers my dreams, that I did not even ask for. This is the deck for me, I don't even scratch, I play House and DnB, but it is all about the feel for me. RANE SUPREME!!!
I was an old-school crate hauler and then took a 13-year break before I got back into it in 2012. When I came back I tried jog-based controllers and it just never connected me to the music. As soon as I got my SC3900s I knew what was missing. And I went from the 3900s > NS7ii > Reloop RP8000 + Rane 62 > NS7iii > TWELVES + Rane 62 > NS7iiii > One
Have been using the NS7ii with screens for about 6 years now as a wedding/private function dj. Only mod was the Inno Pro2 xfader and i'll keep using it 'til it dies! I cut and scratch a LOT and it's been rock solid. Can't wait to play with a Rane One when local music stores open up again.
The NS7-series were tanks and certainly an oddball in the Numark lineup. I think the One has either equaled or exceeded the build quality and def has some added benefits over the NS7-series.
@@djlouparis Hey man very thorough video! I too came from not the NS7III, but the original NS7s with the fx effects bar. Then I sold those and got the single Numark V7s so I'm familiar with motorized platters. Then 2 years ago I got the Pioneer 1000 SRT and loved it since it was so easy to carry around and I could scratch when I want to but mostly mix. One thing many of us are discussing is how Rane One came with less features than the 1000 SRT! If it had a 4 channel mixer it would've been perfect! But then I thought.. what if Rane comes out with the MKII version of Rane One like they did with the Rane 12s? But this time packed with way more features to make it even better? Now that would be sick!!
@@battosaijenkins946 well anything is possible but I wouldn't expect it for a couple years. And my Spidey-senses tell me that this would remain a 2-channel mixer. There is nothing current in the Rane lineup with 4-channels. If there were ever a 4-channel controller with moving platters maybe it comes in the form of a Denon? But I am sus.
Great video. I agree totally. I own a NS7 & enjoy very much.. I started with my 1200's & prefer the feel of vinyl. Hope I can get a unit like the Rane One. Thanks
Dude ! I love your reviews on the rane one! I even love your purple rain shirt! Thank for the comparison!!! KEEP. ON! Shout oiuts from EUROPE / GERMANY!

I'm not a turntablist at all - but I utterly adore working with vinyl. So for me, this is a far superior unit to every other controller out there for that fact alone. Can't wait to play on it (waiting on delivery!)
I’m with you. I can’t scratch for **** and no turntablist but I’m all about mixing on vinyl (in storage) and I think I’m gonna ditch my Pioneer SX3 for this instead.
I had the SC3900s and absolutely loved them. That 9 inch platter was the business. If Rane One is a success and Rane comes out with a Rane Two...hoping for a 9 inch platter. Great review
The 3900s were the bomb. Lightweight and that 9" platter was a great size to fit in the hand. But damn that sticker drift always killed me. I don't think we would see that in a Rane although maybe there is a play for Denon for the 4-channel market and using their 8.5" platters from the SC6000M series (or the 7" from the 5000Ms). But I still think highly unlikely.
@@mike._.feliciano6782 that's awesome, I wish I had a similar experience. Between that and them getting to their end-of-life support from Denon it made me ultimately sell them. They were still great despite the issues I had.
the ns7 mk1 actually had thicker vinyls… before i sold it when i got the ns7mkiii i switched the vinyls & put the mkiii vinyls on the mk1 & the buyer didn’t notice
Thank you for this in-depth detailed comparison review! It is by far the best out there so far. I own the NS7II and have always enjoyed it but felt conflicted since it was missing some key features in my opinion. I don't need or want 4 channels as I'm a turntablist at heart and the NS7II all red fader LEDs and buttons drive me crazy. I have pre-ordered Rane One and can't wait to get my hands on it! It sounds like Rane really paid close attention to detail of what mobile DJ turntablists are looking for in a perfect controller. I also own Rane Twelves and S9 mixer and although I love them and they are my main setup they are a pain to lug around and set up/tear down. I appreciate you doing a head to head comparison of the main and mic sound and volume signals. I'm glad to hear output is clean and not as hot. I had a Rane 62 also and loved it but the layout of the S9 is just so easy. It looks like Rane one mixer is now copied straight from Rane 70 mixer and that is fantastic in my opinion! I appreciate your thoughts and overall impressions as they mostly mirror my own. Thanks! -John Roth (DJ Libertad)
I am glad you liked the video and the comparisons had to be put out there and measured. And I agree the S9 (and now S7) is a really gorgeous mixer as a hole and the 70 seems like a winner (I ended up getting a Reloop Elite part in dur to short supplies of the 70). Def chime in here when you get your One. :)
No need to change or "upgrade " if the ns7III still works for you...I want to myself ..from the ns7III as well . But I like my screens so I will hold off for a bit ..
What's better about it You're really making love to this You don't even have it yet What's so bad ass Name like 4 things that make this Superior to numark You can't It doesn't even have effects LoL They're absolutely nothing you can do on this that you can't on the NUMARK LMMO 😂
Thanks for this man. The decision can really be tough especially when buying your first dj set and you only have the funds for a one-time purchase. So its like you gotta get it right. I think its either gonna be these or a used S9 with a pair of tables.
Well I don't think you can go wrong with either. It really comes down to portability. For me as a wedding DJ that wants to keep my setup and strike time to a minimum and not break my back lifting things the Rane One is really the best of it all. But if portability wasn't an issue I'd probably be running with my Reloop Elite (or a Rane Seventy) and my TWELVES.
Wow!! The rane one looks very nice🔥 I have the numark NS7III. something that I don't understand is why is the rane one so expensive? Is more expensive then the NS7III which comes with a mixer of 4 channels vs the rane one with only 2 channels? I know that the NS7III is an old controller but still I feel that the Rane One is very Expensive for only 2 channels also, do you think Numark is going to release anything soon?
Well from a retail price perspective it was selling at $1399 so the One isn't much more expensive. Now that the NS7iii is past its end of life and all you can get is old-new stock the prices are going to be naturally lower. And honestly as I noted in the video the quality of the Rane One really is much more significant. You are essentially getting miniaturized TWELVES and a Rane 70 minus the built in effects and mag channel faders. I'd rate it a bargain. 😀 As for 4 channels honestly I have zero need for it and nothing in the current Rane lineup is 4 channels. I wouldn't expect it either. If there were a new inMusic company produced 4-channel controller it would probably be a Denon and it would be probably be a little more $. I wouldn't expect a similar product from Numark again. They are a somewhat budget brand before and really are one now.
How's it an upgrade There's no effects The NUMARK has the 1200 feel So I don't understand what you're saying Besides weight Which I don't care I'm not weak And you say numark doesn't sound good It's just loud Yeahhhhhh it's loud And mine sounds great
I watch this again and I was thinking that, the One is very tempting, but the pads on the NS73 are next level as far as feel and look. Just my opinion. I don't think the pads on this one are close to equal.
It's all about the connection, static wheels make the performance look dull, and also it seems to make mixing look real easy, that's why DJs seem to be fiddling around with the pots, to make shizz look interesting. It really is weird when I see people touching the rotary's for literally no reason, other than performance, but when CDJ's enable you to get your mix in time soo quick, you have to fill your time doing something, before the next track is mixed in somehow. I like to cue a record with my hand, and not a button, that would be way too robotic for me................
This reminds me of a set I saw livestreamed on rpan on reddit tonight. Chick was a minimal techno dj. Using a ddj-1000. Good set. I was enjoying it. chatroom was totally a buzz. But people were totally clowning on her because of her gear. "she turned a knob!" "she turned another knob, lookout!" It reminded me why I decided to learn to scratch in the first place. While im sure Chris Liebing, Richie Hawtin, or Speedy J can scratch if they wanted to. I mean, they've each been dj'ing 30+ years a piece. That's not how their minimal techno/stems layering sets work. And because of it, they layman doesn't understand what's going on and that explanation is just too long for people that aren't dj to even make them want to sit through hearing you explaining what is going on. All they know, is a dj, using turntables, or anything like turntables. That's a dj. No explanation needed. They know the moment they see it and with the advent of controllers. While not all changes are 100% positive. it's created this visual perception that controller dj's are lesser dj's. I'm not saying they are, or they aren't. I'm saying that's the public perception and there's not changing that.
There certainly is that perception in large part because of some of the "poseurs" that came around and basically soured a bunch of people on it. A minimalist techno DJ isn't supposed to scratch (mostly) and has it's own set of challenges to make a really tight set. But for some, it's all about the visual performance.
@@kaibe5241 Right but the point I'm making, especially if you look at chatrooms on streams these days. They layman doesnt know that, and doesn't care to hear it either. They look at the world like cowboys ride horses, bikers ride harleys, and dj's use turntables. my comment was entirely about the public perception of dj's. not the dj community's perception of djs.
I highly doubt an NS7iv would come out. With the acquisition of Numark, Denon, Rane and Numark being positioned as an entry-level budget brand the NS7-series was an oddball out. It made more sense for it to be reborn as a Denon or Rane. And frankly I love that it fell under the Rane flag, not that Denon is bad I do love them, but there is just something so very straight forward about the Rane design and it's still built like a tank. If there were a 4-channel motorized platter that launches it likely falls under Denon. But I think that is a stretch if that happens.
Thank you for the comparison. A practical question is the noise of the motor/fan loud? I can't play my music loud in my house so how is it if you re playing on low volume tunes with the Rane One with other words overwhelmed the noise of the motor not the music?
I did not put it up to a meter but the fans are pretty quiet. You hear a quick spin-up on start that is not that loud and it's really not noticeable. If I get a chance I will measure it. :)
you use the capacative touch as kill switches or what ever you want, so you don’t need to have stem pads or eq pads. so you can instantly create am instrumental or acapella, and you can instantly take out vocals to stop clashing in a mix. If you use vdj it allows you to make hardware that serato would make you buy, bdj allows you to create what you want and allocate multiple actions to one button.
If ever there would have been an appropriate jump cut, it would have been between the discussion of the NS7 III, and introduction to the RANE ONE. Looks like there may have been some bts reason this didn’t happen. That Star Wars-ish pinch wipe looks like a bandaid. 100% not intentional criticism. I’m wholly grateful to this video.
This is a great review! I currently own the Pioneer DDJ-1000SRT, which is a great controller, but changing to moving platters would be a nice upgrade since I started out on turntables. Nonetheless, I wish it had onboard FX. How would you compare the Rane One to the Pioneer DDJ-1000SRT?
So I got to play around with the 1000SRT when it had first came out (was at the DJ Expo in NJ and a few of us DJs did a long session on it). It's a competent mixer but since I am so tied into moving platters my opinion is very biased on it. To me the One would blow it out of the water. The build quality, the feel of the platters, the layout is all Rane and I love it. As for onboard effects, I don't see people doing much in the way of using the One as a pure mixer and hooking in DVS on the sides, but it is a scenario that can happen. So having the onboard effects would have pushed costs higher if they went that route.
Hi I've watched this video at least 5 times now. Thank you so much for a detailed review .. I'm on the verge of selling my ns7iii to get the Rane One but I'm afraid I'm making a mistake! I'm not a long term user of serato but I've just analysed my entire library for serato and want to give it a go. I do love playing with algorithm DJAY Pro AI so that's what edging me towards the Rane One .. being stuck to serato and vdj only doesn't sit well with me owning the ns7iii... But I do love the ns7iii though 😂 decision is so hard!
Sorry I don't get these alerts often so just catching up. Decisions are always hard, but with the NS7-series well past their end of life it makes the Rane One choice that much easier. :)

how much does a used but almost brand new NS7III going for in 2022? a friend of mine has one. which he bought when the ns7III came out, used it a hand full of times and stored it in it's case. so the unit is immaculate condition. no dings or dents, no scratches what so ever. in a case plus he has the screens.
It is hard to know because they are becoming rarer and rarer. Thing is with the One, and now the REV7 out, they are both superior in so many ways to the NS7x that unless you are getting one hell of a deal it probably isn't worth it.
Hi Lou, I have the Rane 1 but haven’t taken it on a wedding job yet. I want to master my transitions with effects. I’m a VDJ user. Do u have a good video tutorial to recommend?
I don’t have a specific tutorial on how to do a fax. But it’s funny as a ditches put up a video today about wedding DJs in general transitioning between songs.
Well Done! Can we talk about getting your hands on a Rane One. I wish authorized dealers had them in stock. ... Are they waiting for the next round of stimulus checks? j/k ... It's already been two weeks of waiting and every I check they say two to three weeks from now (mid-Feb).
Hheheh we could all use a couple rounds of stimulus checks. So the dealers were only given a pretty small batch of Ones for the first round so I was incredibly lucky that as soon as I learned about it I reached out to Ben Stowe and NLFX (nlfxpro.com) to secure one. I can say this. I know that if you get your order in, you will be placed in order that they are bought so you don't miss out on further supplies. I am curious if Rane was initially worried if the reception for the One would be low-key. It seems it's been far from that. :)
Hey man if you want the new rane one controller and want to save $150 off, check out my review and you can save! th-cam.com/video/UrrKHcRQUBg/w-d-xo.html
I used the NS7, have been using the NS7ii since it came out - it's a tank, but was starting to have some glitches. Recently got the Rane One and unlearning the muscle memory is the WORST. I also miss the BPM Meter in the top center the NS7/ii/iii had. It's going to take a lot of getting used to
Thanks for the super detailed review...only thing you have worried that the output is too weak? Is it that much quieter than a 72/70? The main reason, I am asking is because I often come straight out of the mixer to the speakers. Since it has to mic inputs, I would rather not set up an external mixer
I wish I had a 70 or 72 in my possession to give you a proper assessment. But I would wager those run hotter than the One. Someone made an interesting note to me and it sorta makes sense. The One's 0db spot is at max where other controllers or mixers come in closer to the 12 o'clock position. If you are the type of DJ that keeps it under the red, then I think you are OK. If you are pushing hotter than that, then I think you might find it lacking. Then again you can always turn up your gains at the speakers to compensate if that is the case. Personally, in my studio I normally run just to the speaker and it's plenty loud. If I push it, it does get cranked to near max, but I think that is still more than adequate. Think of it as a stopper from running too hot to your speakers and frying the circuitry there (which I have with my 62 my my older Yamaha Subs before).
So the problem I ran into is that my current macOS installs are 64-bit only and my 62 control panel will not load, so I cannot test it properly. What I can say is subjective and historic but the 62 has more overall output. This is not to say the One is somehow bad or lacking. Someone mentioned a good point that on the One the 0db point is really at the max position instead of being at say the 12 o'clock position. It certainly will deter from redlining. As for noise, I could not hear any noise beyond what the noise floor of the digital mixer (Soundcraft Ui24) has itself. So from a quality of signal perspective it seems completely there with no compromises.
Thanks for the great review! Liked your commenting on the FX level knobs (1 for all vs individual). Nobody ever seems to mention this. What are your thoughts on the lack of a sampler volume knob. Also it comes with fader grease yeah? Does this help the channel faders?
Honestly I only ever use the sampler itself for station ID drops in my radio sets. Otherwise it's never used. To the lack of a knob would not really be an issue for me. It does come with fader grease. But I was trying to be as true to the review by not adjusting or adding anything to it from an out of the box experience. I've been so busy between the filming and editing yesterday and now managing comments and posts that I haven't taken the time to dab a little on it. :)
Once this is standalone with a nice big touch screen then it’s time to say the future is here. But still very very cool. I just personally am finished with laptop djing.
The Technics style platter dots on the Rane and it's also Technics style clicking start stop button do add to the feel but the motors are in fact the same as the NS7II & III! View a disassembly video of the Rane 12 for a real shock of what's inside, again the same motor! inMusic is smart in putting this out with the Rane name as they can charge a premium and get the attention of Pro DJ's would wouldn't even look at a Numark product but the Rane One is nothing more than a 2 channel NS7II with Rane Clothing,
Well if they are the NS7-series motor then kudos for Numark building a great motor to start. It always felt good from the start and def had the torque. Numark's NS7iii is well past it's end of life and there probably isn't much old-new stock on the shelves. And there are def advantages of the One versus the NS7-series, from weight to a much improved sound card (the NS7-series was very noisy). And now you are getting what is effect a pared down Rane 70 mixer. It's a well worthy upgrade IMO but part of the reason I made this video is for people to see the comparison and make those choices for themselves. I've made my choice. :)
thanks for the effort on the review . you cant hear the music though, and thats kinda the whole point. i would suggest a review of a dj controller would show us actual Djing
Listening to music through TH-cam to compare quality is a fools errand since you are dealing with compression in their storage algo. Also a controller does not make the DJ. If you want to hear some results of what a session is like check out my Mixcloud (www.mixcloud.com/ParisCreative/) where the last set is done through the One. I also have two radio streaming shows during the week (Wednesdays 7-8p ET and Saturdays 5-7p ET) which I've been using the One for a couple months now. That can be found at pariscreative.com/live.
The NS7iii has CoreAudio so if you are running on macOS you are good for as long as Apple keeps supporting it. As for updated Win drivers on the Numark site they are still at 1.0.0 for the drivers so it hasn't been updated in 6 years, and now it's been end of life for a while now. I am very skeptical that Rane would ever release a 4-channel version. They don't have any 4-channel mixers in their lineup anymore (the 64 and 68 are long gone) and frankly a lot of DJs that Rane are marketing to are the 2-channel battle-style people. Maybe Denon comes out with a 5000M-based controller someday with a condensed 1800 mixer. But only time will tell.
@@mnyez101 then clearly the One would not be a good fit for you. Or you could change up your workflow a bit and run something like VDJ when you can apply STEMS and change over one track to an acapella while having your other deck with the vocal out and make it an instrumental. I've been doing that for a bit now with VDJ and either my NS7iii or my TWELVES and my Reloop Elite.
Have you noticed how bad the cue mix is on the Rane in terms of getting a good mix of both sources (not split cue) unless you have the gains turned way up.....took me hours to figure out that I needed to turn the level on each deck up to 7.5+ to be able to get a good cue mix of both in the headphones.....The NS7ii I never had to worry about that seemingly...
Hmmm something I didn't notice. Then again the gain, EQ, filter are all going to be reflective of what the mix will be so you have to make sure it's adequate to hear.
I never used 4 channels so it's not missed on my end. As for the dashboard there isn't a place you could mount it, but I also never used the screens with the NS7iii. I mean it is just a USB device although I can't see Serato making it work in tandem but I could be wrong. In theory VDJ could.
So the switches have a good "click presence" so you know that something is switched. It is a smaller switch than the 62 which is the closest facsimile to it. It is much smaller than a typical switch that you see on other controllers. Personally I have no problem with it, you know when it's switched, however I could see some people feeling it's a bit too small.
Did you change the gain on your digital mixer when switching between the 2 boards? If one board is hotter than the other, you have to adjust the gain to compensate. Try this for each board, and maybe use a different set of inputs to compare. Play a pink noise track, set the channel gain on the controller for 0db on the meter, set the master level for 0db on the master output meter, then adjust the gain on your digital mixer for a 0db level. THEN use this setting to measure noise, and the pink noise to measure the spectrum, as there's no way to compare frequency response on a spectrum by playing music. I have noticed the mic level on the NS7iii to be low, almost unusable when I tried it at a wedding (My Denon 6000's and 7000 never had this problem), so I always used an external mixer after that. I never got around to playing with the unit to see if I could bring that mic level above the music.
Yes I actually tried to set my gain stage in two ways. First I just wanted to see what at "50% output" registered between my three units I was testing (One, NS7iii, Elite) just to gauge "the hotness" of each unit while setting my gains on my digital mixer to 0db and ensuring that no compression, EQ or anything else was there to color the sound. When I did that I noticed that the NS7iii was way too hot and I was hearing noise on the channel to boot. It's just a really noisy soundcard on it. So I went about marking out where each unit was in relationship to "dial gain" and where I adjusted on the channel gain on my digital board: Rane One - Master Out @ 12 o'clock - Ui24R at +14db Numark NS7iii - Master Out @ 10 o'clock - Ui24R at +14db Reloop Elite - Master Out @ 12 o'clock - Ui24R at +0db The Numark seems to have a pretty odd curve, and then adding the noise in the mix it was a little challenging to dial in nicely. I am going to upload a separate video in a few (still editing) where I am overlaying things and swapping between views regularly. I did this briefly in this video but without the music to avoid copyright issues. The short of it is that the responses were pretty close across the board, maybe giving the Rane a slight difference in a more colored output. You would occasionally see just a little bit of additional output in the lower and higher parts of the spectrum. But given this is not a direct in-line pure real time analyzer that could have been an anomaly. From a pure "from the ear" perspective I would say that the Elite has a colder sound, the NS7iii a hair more compressed sound, and the One a tad warmer sound. But this of course is purely subjective. The NS7iii mic is pretty much totally unusable. The One outshined the NS7iii and the Reloop. It had very solid mic performance.
@@PaulReedy more so for reference for people that just straight input into speakers and where things are in relation. For me it of course does not matter because I can stage my gain structure properly at the digital mixer. But there are many (too many) that don't so there has to be some other mental baseline to work off of.
I’ve been waiting for the comparison vid of these two, great review. The price point I feel is unfair though I paid $750 for a very near new NS7III their doesn’t seem to be too many differences besides small convenience upgrades. Couple hundred bucks less would be fair but at this price eh...
You can never compare a "near new" or even "new old stock" to a brand new model. The original NS7iii and NS7iii was priced at.... $1499. The same price as the One and that was 6 years ago. And the NS7iii is now well past its end of life and I did list a number of differences in the video. :)
Great review. I own the Numark NS7III and like some of the features of the Rane One. However its not enough to make me want to switch the Rane One. I don't see any thing that would improve my performance or creativity. I am only seeing feature differences. 1. I love my 4 channel 2. I love the layout of the NS7III 3. Either do not have on boarding EFX. This is a deal breaker 4. There are somethings that I like about the Rane One but its still not enough to move on from the NS7III 5. I like the laptop rack on the NS7III 6. You're right the pitch slider should be in battle style along the top 7. I actually like having the smaller cue along the side of the middle I'll wait for the next version or the next
To be frank it will likely be YEARS before a revision will come out. They can't even keep up with demand now with all the supply chain issues going on. But my note on the on-board FX. I still don't see what the demand is for this. You realize you will spend more to have licensed effects on board, and you are not spinning vinyl here, everything has to go through software to work. So why spend more for something so trivial?
Why should the pitch slider be along the top, that’s what is stupid about the twelves. The reason why the slider is rotated to the top on 1200’s is becuase the tone arm is in a much better location. Now you don’t have a tone arm to be in a safer position having the slider so you have to go over the platter is creating a problem
Currently using the ddj1000srt, would the sound quality be better on rane one? Left the ns7 2 due to macOS incompatibility and i miss the moving platters ca
I do not own the DDJ1000 so it's hard for me to do a one on one comparison. I will say this, traditionally Rane has a more warmer sound where Pio has a bit more of a harsher sound in the mids/highs. It's actually one of the reasons I got rid of my S9 (that and some bad I/O ports). If history is any indicator then the One might have a more appealing sound profile.
There are no built in effects so that is at the behest of the software. VDJ has some very customizable effects that work well for me. But in full transparency, ducking echo is my primary goto.
great review ...I thought that rane up years ago ...I had the 1,2 and 3 ns7 ....that rane needs 4 channels, mic effects and tension knob on the outside ...and it needs to native map with other programs like djay pro special if they add 2 more lines
You said that you typically run your DJ equipment and controllers through an additional or separate mixer. Can you recommend a mixer that would you would use with this Rain One...thanks
@@djlouparis not as yet brother. Waiting for my bday. It's coming up soon. Can't wait until I get it. I already played with it. I fell in love with the platters.
Rane One came out after the NS7III. Good comparison yes. Coming from 1200s to Controller, the NS7III is very similar. Initially, my thoughts about the controls not being symmetrical (Pitch, Pitch Bend, etc) were WHYYYYY. The thing is that with the compactness of the controllers, some of those controls if placed in a symmetrical fashion would be too close to some other sliding controls as you pointed out on the RANE One (Pitch and Volume Slider for Channel 1) which could be easily accidentally moved at the wrong time. The Start/Pause with the pad material is to me better than a "click switch" which will eventually wear. The Pads on the NS7III light all the way around BTW. One thing I noticed with the RANE One is that the lights from the pads reflect on the Jog Wheel. The NS7III doesn't. Red is better for eyesight in the dark as well. Just a few of my thoughts.
It's interesting because I really hated the all red of the Numark. There was just no visual distinguishing between functions/areas and I can understand the reason not to go symmetrical since those coming from a two decks and a mixer style would not have a symmetrical layout either.
@@djlouparis You also have to to at the ages of the 2 devices. Amazingly, The NS7III still carries a lot of "weight" (No 'pun' intended) for it's age. Built solid. Colourful enough and with a confident DJ then the colours will make zero difference. Mixers before only had 2 lights; those being the lights in the analog VU meters.😀
@@oliverearthur5354 yes the NS7x's are built quite solid, which is the oddball out of the Numark brand. It's was going to be pretty obvious that when inMusic bought them out that the NS7x's days were numbered.
This Rane One controller looks pretty dope, except the glaring omission of screens for direct visual feedback. I think my greatest regret in terms of 'gear misses' is procrastinating too long and missing out on the Numark NS7iii. Sux that I can't find find a new one held over anywhere. Was hoping they'd re-release it, but seems this Rane One might be inMusic's answer updated spinoff to the NS7iii since they absorbed Numark, Denon & Rane. Think I'll pass with no screens or onboard FX for $1500 though.
The screens honestly for me were a gimmick, be it on the NS7iii (which I yanked mine off right away) or even the S11 or Rane72. And why would you need onboard FX? This is a MIDI controller that needs VDJ, Serato, et al. On board effects is a useless additional cost if it were added.
@@djlouparis You're missing my point totally, which is for $1500 it SHOULD have onboard audio FX. MIDI implementation has nothing to do with my statement since If it has an onboard audio card then it's not just a MIDI controller. The absence of an onboard audio FX module in my opinion makes this overpriced. Not to mention the absence of display screens (which are a nice workflow convenience for some, like me) as well. Thus my overall take on this piece; nice but overpriced @ $1500. $1000 - $1200 (considering the motorized platters) absolute max seems like a more appropriate price.
@@Sean10Bruce to each their own. IMO screens are gimmicks and having onboard effects are useless for a software-based controller that few would ever hook up a pair of twelves to it and use it as an analog mixer. All it would do is make it bigger and heaver (more size to accommodate the screen real estate) and pricer (to license on board effects).
That is from SINY called "Detroit Vibes". I subscribe to a service called Epidemic Sound which has a ton of music to use for a pretty low cost to maintain. Def nice to find tracks like this in it's library.
Sorry just seeing this. YT did not alert me to all my comments of the past few weeks. I would like to but man I have been so damn overwhelmed with things as of late.
I still wish Rane upgrades this to Rane Four, with four ch. with the FX section upgrade, so one can use at least 2 different FX for the left/right side. Also would be needed a Rane Seven (like V7’s were), so one can get 4 small spinning platters for the 4 channels. I know it is a niche market, but Pioneer doesn’t make spinning platters, it would be a logical step both to Rane and anyone want morethan 2ch.
I don't see any of these scenarios happening. Rane is positioned itself as "the battle mixer" company and their philosophy is really geared towards two channels. I will put my money that Rane will likely never produce a 4-channel version. As for the effects split you could manage it where effects 1-3 are really just dedicated for your A deck and 4-6 for your B deck. I def do not see a Rane SEVEN in the future. It would pilfer potential sales from the One and the TWELVE. If you really need 4 decks the Denon SC5000M would be your better bet in that regard.
What I always missed on my NS7II is the technics kind of dotted platters. Somehow I never “felt” the Numark version of it. Maybe I just used TT’s way too long to change. Btw how and where can one adjust the 3/3 FX behaviour of the One? Since I own a big bunch of Rane equipment I really like, ALL built like a tank and the sound quality is super, I’m dealing with the idea of selling the NS7II of mine and grab One, but will cost a lot ‘couse nobody needs my stuff! Will need a Reloop Budy with Djay pro on the Aux in to get the 4ch I love to mix with. BTW how do you like the Steam feature and the One integration with VDJ/Djay?
@@dj-MadaM 3/3 FX behavior? Can you explain a little more? Do you mean individual adjustments per effect? I actually don't use any streaming services. I maintain an all local and curated library. th-cam.com/video/BiADnxaY0F4/w-d-xo.html
I think I’m going to wait NUMARK sat the trend for everyone I understand that InMusic bought RANE and NUMARK and DENON I think the reason why NUMARK hasn’t released a new professional controller in almost 9 to 12 years they just added on to the NS7 series and as we all see that the NS7lll is still being compared 3 to 4 years later to brand new Controllers I hope that NUMARK comes out with a controller with larger platters 4 channels lightweight platform and shut it down again
There is absolutely no reason why inMusic would allow an in-house brand to deliberately pilfer sales from another. That makes zero business sense at all. Numark was always an entry-level brand minus the NS7-series and even that had it's flaws (kinda cheap faders, very noisy soundcard) but it was revolutionary. But I will wager 100,000 Quatloos that Numark will never release another NS7-series controller while under the inMusic brand.
great review!! but no thanks i will wait till the next model because to be honest from the NS7iii this is a step backwards you even back down to just two channels and less effects and less compatibility
I am not sure how you can say this has less effects. It has the same 3-effect per-channel control than the NS7iii. And less compatibility, how exactly? The NS7iii is now past its end of life. It's a version or two away from complete obsolescence unless you stick with older OSes and hope you never need support. As for the loss of 4-channels, I have met maybe 5-6 people that actually mix 4-channels. You do have discrete control of a mic and a line in. That is effectively all the channels needed by a DJ.
@@djlouparis was this a sponsored video?? end of its life? there is DJs and producers the use gear well past its "life" its more then about what's new! older Oses what? what OS do the NS7iii cant support that the Rane one can? that controller dont even have support for Virtual Dj. did you know every controller that's been released on the market the 4 channel is an upgrade if it was useless why do every company have always follow this trend? i work at Guitar Center you how many djs would come to me and wish they waited for the four channel release and 1500 - 1800 used nahhh. a quarter of your comment section is about experience Djs agreeing this is not enough to replace the NS7iii but i bet money when that 4 channel release comes you going to make a video about how much better it is in comparison to the two deck then it will be time to witch
@@lamarwealthchild6199 no, I don't do sponsored videos. I buy nearly all the equipment I test (and make note of it when I do not). Everything I test is because I plan to integrate it into my setup. I was one of the first videos out there with an actually BOUGHT One, not one furnished by Rane. Yes the NS7iii is past its end of life. No new units can be bought unless it's old-new stock and Numark is not going to be supporting it. So if you have an issue that creeps up, an OS update that effects it, oh well. That is the risk you take with EOL equipment. The One has had VDJ support for months now (www.rane.com/the-rane-one-now-supports-djay-pro-ai-and-virtual-dj/) (th-cam.com/video/smxN3_DjQtM/w-d-xo.html) 4-channel controllers IMO are pretty worthless. There are few DJs that can actually mix 4-channels, and as I. mentioned there are essentially 4 channels on the One with the mic control and aux control, which most DJs use channels 3 and 4 for. Even if the Rane comes out with a 4-channel I doubt I would switch to that unless there were other compelling features. Frankly I wish the OG NS7 2-channel would have kept that pedigree with the NS7ii and NS7iii. Hey you do you. If you think you need 4-channels to mix then the One is simply not the one for you and there are plenty of other controllers out there to fit the bill.
This seems to be a more recurring question so I had to test things out: 1) In Serato it does not matter. It likely expecting the NS7ii or NS7iii to be connected so even with things hooked up it wont work unless Serato makes some changes to that 2) In VDJ it does work, but with caveats: 2a) There is no place to mount the monitors directly on the One 2b) You have to deliver 12v/2a power to it. There is no power delivery mechanism on the controller
My ns73 has no issues even with our updates but this can be like my second baby my ns7 never died all I have to do is get one repair if you know about old school effects were minimum and you created your own
The problem is going to be the repair side for the NS7-series. Since they are end of life and end of warranty fewer people will be able to service it and of course Numark is done with it.
Like just for pointing out to me In Misic bought up all those companies. Wondering why there is such a lack of companies showing of DJ hardware (In Music wasn't represented @DJX2021) #DJX2021 P.S. I did order this, expect delivery on Friday the 13th! 😱
So my first best guess if a combination of things. First supply chain issues is affecting so much that companies have little to show right now. I'd love to get my hands on a couple more pairs of black Maui 5 Gos but they are backordered for a couple months (at least). Second I am sure that the hit that many companies faced in 2020 definitely affected their budgets for 2021. Going to these expos can easily be multiple tens-of-thousands of dollars for floor space, flights, personnel, hotels, inventory, etc. Lastly I am sure some people were concerned for COVID and that had some impact as well. Awesome choice on the purchase! I am considering getting a second myself. :)
Man, I just don't know. I think the faders are in a terrible spot. I'd have to see this in person but I think my ns7III has way more features and I think it was dumb to make a Rane controller. They shoulda kept Numark with controllers and Rane for larger decks. I don't think this is an upgrade at all but if you don't have either maybe look into this since it's new and will have longer support.
After some use over the past couple months this really has not been an issue. It also made no sense for Numark to have the NS7x anymore. They are purely budget now and does not fit into the brand. And there really are no missing features other than the lack of a screen (which was a BS gimmick anyways).
@@EazyHarbor someone covered this a few years back. It's a bit of a "trick" in VDJ but still applicable as far as I am aware. th-cam.com/video/tdceYcq4P2Q/w-d-xo.html
I've purchased a rane one used it for 3 months, this is no way close to ns7mk3 which has features and more solid, and also had the future chipset installed in it so rane one is brilliant controller, ns7mk3 is the daddy.
"Future chipset". I think you need to spill a little more detail. If you are talking Core Audio virtually all controllers now are Core Audio compliant. The features in the NS73 were fine for their time, however some were a gimmick. For instance the radiostatic knobs were troublesome and a useless feature. I never used 4 channels so 2 were a waste to me. The mic inputs (while I never used them) were a joke. And the soundcard kinda blew. But it was the best option at the time. In this case the Daddy is dead. It's past its end of life and parts are going to be more rare as time goes on.
faders in a battle style? mode? nah man lol remember that battle style was to create more room for scratching not really intended for the pitch faders to be on the top side .
It makes an ergonomic sense since they are using a narrow profile for the mixer area. I'd wager the majority of turntablists orient in battle style. Even the TWELVES are configured like that to match the profile of the 1200s. Making it wider would be an issue. I'm glad she shortened it down a little from the NS7iii
Ns7 I think is better and stand alone no computer. As far as scratching obviously he doesn't practice, cause once you learn you learn from vestax 06 to a standard djm 400 .. now the one yeah dope fader of course but if can't learn from the bottom what difference dose it make with the magval fader
What are you talking about? The NS7-series is not a stand alone. There are few stand-alones in the market and frankly they make little sense for the mobile DJ unless you are playing a very limited catalog. My thoughts on that (th-cam.com/video/MarTwroZxAw/w-d-xo.html) As for scratching, this was not some show off video of scratching skills. This is a product review. ;)
Numark is part of inMusic (same as Rane) and you will never see a moving platter option from them again. They are budget-entry only now. The Rane One is superior to the NS7/II/III in nearly every way.
The NS7ii/iii was the best moving platter controller that was out, and it beat most standard controllers. I was a little surprised to hear how noisy the output was on it though. I am glad Rane put a quality soundcard in.
You realize that the Rane One came in at the same price as the NS7ii and the NS7iii did. The only thing it lacks is 4-channels and frankly there are few DJs on this planet that mix 4-channels. I've certainly listed the reasons why the One has a many distinct advantages over the NS7iii.
BTW @XiAmFAUSTX had posted this but seemingly has disappeared "Paris Creative OK. So what features does Rane Onr have over the Numark NS7ii or iii? Granted, I think the Numark NS7ii is a more fair comparison and came out almost 10 years ago. But go ahead. Let's hear what Rane One did better that justifies a 2 channel dj controller to be the same debut price as an almost 10 year old controller." 1) There are literally two videos on this very subject. 2) The NS7ii and iii are nearly identical. The iii shed some weight, had CoreAudio compliance, and the gimmick screen. 3) There are literally two videos on this very subject. 4) Most of the controllers out there now in the $600-1200 are really not all that. $1500 is not a big ask for what it offers.
@@djlouparis Yeah I deleted it because I wasn't able to finish the review yet. Most people cover the same things but it seems you had more detail which I wanted to watch first. The Numark did come out at that price but it is also nearly 10 years old. Least my NS7ii is. I need to get a channel fader fixed and already paid to do this in the past which I feel they just cleaned it because 3 months later it started to cut out again. The internals on thr numark suck and someone from Rane assured this was easier to replace. So I bought a DDJ 1000srt and think in terms of display, this Rane is similar in ways to that. I think thr Numark loop feature is still better than Rane One or DDJ 1000srt and decided to keep my NS7ii because it serves my style of mixing better. Plus trying to learn how to scratch on static jog wheels just doesn't feel right to me or haven't adjusted yet. I suppose 2 sound cards is better than the Numark, as it lacks that despite having 4 channels which is odd to me. That's really the only big seller I see so far. I need to finish your review, but seeing something that was for thr most part good, offering a little more IMO, nearly 10 years old, doesn't justify Rame's price. Lack if 4 channels and the loop is what aggrevates me, because I wasn't looking to hold onto 2 dj controllers. The only good I like with the ddj 1000srt (and if Rane One has this) is the key sync, and possibly the ease of effects in a central location.
@@iAmFAUST the 2-channel design makes sense in the Rane lineup since the only >2 channel mixer they have is the aged MP2015. Rane is about no-nonsense two-channel battle scratching styles. 4 channels is mostly not needed. It already has two mics plus on that second mic is an RCA aux-switchable input. In many cases people that rock 4-channel mixers are using channels 3 and 4 for discrete mic routing and a secondary emergency source. There are probably not even a handful of scratch DJs out there mixing on 4 channels simultaneously. For me the biggest selling points are 1) 10 lbs lighter than my NS7iii 2) A far cleaner sounding soundcard (x2) 3) no nonsense design (I don't care for the all red/white Numark design, the capacitive knobs, or the screens) 4) a smaller footprint 5) rane design quality The only real negative as I see is the stiff non-changable channel faders. I tend to use them a lot and these are fine, but it would have been nicer to have it as a magfader. I do address some of the things that have come out post-this video in this "B-side video": th-cam.com/video/h9FfCZz37Hg/w-d-xo.html
@@djlouparis The Numark NS7 had nonsense? I wasn't aware of that. Think of it like a car. Do you need 1200HP? No. But it is always nice to know it's there when you wish to use it. Price comparison? Nope. Rane isn't worth it to me still. Would rather just buy a Numark again or in my case, keep mine instead of selling it. That loop feature on the Numark is a big deal to me. That Rane seems like it had the same issue that my Pioneer DDJ 1000srt had with using the loop feature. I guess they feel like they can sell it because they make good mixers and Numark doesn't have anything out right now to compete as all moving platter platforms are discontinued... still though... this thing is under the NS7ii IMO, but above the NS7 (debut platform). .
I have this… I don’t like it… The scratching on it sounds soooooo digital….. crab scratching on it is low … I rather have the Rane 12s … I’m sending mine back… I like the NS7 BETTER…. THis is more up to date though but I had more fun and a good workflow on the NS7 2 YALL… This is to little for the $1700 I paid after taxes…. If you a beginner scratch dj get it… a pro you won’t like it… The fader suck… now it feels good but not for what I do…. I have the Elite mixer as well and I love it… I’m a stick with the rane 12s
By all the means if you don't like it, that is fine. But it sounds like you haven't either installed the Rane control panel or you have a lower spec laptop. There is nothing specific about a controller's hardware that would make it sound digital and the soundcard is lifted from the Rane parts bin. I compared this to my 62 and my Elite and I detected no artifacting of the sound. The fader is literally their Magfaders, but again if you don't like then you would dislike the Magfaders on the 72 and the 70. I do wish they had Magfaders on their channel faders, but that is a minor nitpick.
TEST… GO REAL SLOW OVER A WORD THEN GO REVERSE OVER IT… ITS DIGITAL… UNLIKE A RECORD IF U DID THE EXACT THING IT WOULD SOUND LIKE A WORD IN REVERSE… ITS COOL FOR DJS THAT REALLY DONT DO DIFFERENT SCRATCHES… BUT IF YOU DO THE BABY SCRATCH IT A GOOD UPGRADE … I WOULD NEVER SELL MY NS7 2 FOR THAT… YOU SAID THE SOUNDCARD WAS BETTER… NOT TRUE… IT MIGHT BE CLEAR… BUT U HAVE TO TURN THAT MAIN ALL THE WAY TO DAMN NEAR 5 o’clock the NS7… I have it at 11oclock… SOUNDS GREAT
@@indamixx216 you are describing what would happen with any potential digital playback device vs. vinyl. Go over to any extremely slow playback in digital then that artifacting can be present. This also builds the case to make sure you have the highest quality audio files to work with if you go into these extremes. A significant part of my library is FLAC flies to help preserve the original sound in the more extreme conditions. The NS7ii and iii, as much as I loved them, have a really shitty noisy card. Sure you need less gain on it's output but at the expense at of noise and some distortion, even some compression. Again I loved the NS7-series controllers but they are a product of what Numark had and they were undercutting on the soundcard. Again, if you don't like the One that is totally fine. But I am just saying this "digital" complaint is not specific to the One, and if you are complaining about a digital sound but not a noisy soundcard that the NS7-series has then you see where the conflict is here.
@@djlouparis Dude … mines not loud… Maybe u should change your cords …. Had mines for years and it still the same as the rane one… rane one just a update of it… so I will keep my money and suffer lifting it😂😂😂
I've got to play with the Rev7 a few times. I am impressed with it. However I do like the looser feel of the One as a whole. But I don't think you can go wrong with either.
There's absolutely no reason to "upgrade to the rane" LoL What's the upgrade No effects The tables are off center to the mixer😆 That'll bug me big time So again What are people upgrading to The NUMARK is better Period
Um the NS7III does not have built in effects. Like the Rane it's a control of the software. And yes the Rane is not a mirrored layout. Some of us (raising hand) prefer that. I've literally touched on a number of reasons why to upgrade. If you don't agree then fine. That is your choice.
I own an NS7III, and from what I see here it's not enough for me to drop.1,500$ on this to replace my NS7III. MY NS7III is a tank it's a workhorse. It works well amd I never read line I adjust my mains and volumes in practice to
Be prepared for that. And as for the four channel or 2 channels
I use the Mike on my channel 4 as a dedicated mike output and like it so I can add effects from the Dedicated channel ..I also like the 3 screens on the NS7III.

Hey bro good day

One thing many of us are discussing is how Rane One came with less features than the 1000 SRT! If it had a 4 channel mixer it would've been perfect! I'm not a turntablist at all - but I utterly adore working with vinyl. So for me, this is a far superior unit to every other controller out there for that fact alone. Can't wait to play on it (waiting on delivery!)
One > NS7-series > the rest. Well at least in my opinion. :)
I’m with you. I can’t scratch for **** and no turntablist but I’m all about mixing on vinyl (in storage) and I think I’m gonna ditch my Pioneer SX3 for this instead.
Rane one is still the best concept.
@@djlouparis anything is possible... I never experienced that sticker drift with my 3900s.
@@mike._.feliciano6782 that's awesome, I wish I had a similar experience. Between that and them getting to their end-of-life support from Denon it made me ultimately sell them. They were still great despite the issues I had.
Can't wait to own one, still grinding with the Ns7ii tank
I still own an NS7!!! Dinasour style!!!
The one is weak
No effects and the tables are off center to the mixer 😂
@@djlennyb are you serious? 😳
the ns7 mk1 actually had thicker vinyls… before i sold it when i got the ns7mkiii i switched the vinyls & put the mkiii vinyls on the mk1 & the buyer didn’t notice
What's better about it
You're really making love to this
You don't even have it yet
What's so bad ass
Name like 4 things that make this Superior to numark
You can't
It doesn't even have effects LoL
They're absolutely nothing you can do on this that you can't on the NUMARK
LMMO 😂
Thanks for this man. The decision can really be tough especially when buying your first dj set and you only have the funds for a one-time purchase. So its like you gotta get it right. I think its either gonna be these or a used S9 with a pair of tables.
Well I don't think you can go wrong with either. It really comes down to portability. For me as a wedding DJ that wants to keep my setup and strike time to a minimum and not break my back lifting things the Rane One is really the best of it all. But if portability wasn't an issue I'd probably be running with my Reloop Elite (or a Rane Seventy) and my TWELVES.
True the NS 7 WAS A COMPLETE BEAST
As for 4 channels honestly I have zero need for it and nothing in the current Rane lineup is 4 channels. I wouldn't expect it either. If there were a new inMusic company produced 4-channel controller it would probably be a Denon and it would be probably be a little more $.
I wouldn't expect a similar product from Numark again. They are a somewhat budget brand before and really are one now.
Companies are greedy
How's it an upgrade
There's no effects
The NUMARK has the 1200 feel
So I don't understand what you're saying
Besides weight
Which I don't care
I'm not weak
And you say numark doesn't sound good
It's just loud
Yeahhhhhh it's loud
And mine sounds great
I watch this again and I was thinking that, the One is very tempting, but the pads on the NS73 are next level as far as feel and look. Just my opinion. I don't think the pads on this one are close to equal.
I personally like the pads, but both models are great in that response.
@@cerebrix They're definitely not. If anything, it's given DJs far more tools and opportunity to do some truly creative work.
Great review and comparison
. I have the ns7(3) and been waiting for an upgrade.
Do you think an ns7(4) could possible come out this year?
I highly doubt an NS7iv would come out. With the acquisition of Numark, Denon, Rane and Numark being positioned as an entry-level budget brand the NS7-series was an oddball out. It made more sense for it to be reborn as a Denon or Rane. And frankly I love that it fell under the Rane flag, not that Denon is bad I do love them, but there is just something so very straight forward about the Rane design and it's still built like a tank.
If there were a 4-channel motorized platter that launches it likely falls under Denon. But I think that is a stretch if that happens.
@@djlouparis thanks bro.i didn't look at it from that point of view 💪
I'll stick to my NS7III Because of the 3 screens... If Rane came out with screens then I might think about buying me a RANE TWO?
Personally I took my screens off the NS7III. Total gimmick for me but if you found them useful then kudos! Not sure if they will ever come back.
@@djlouparis thank you so much for your fast response! I'm glad to hear this
you use the capacative touch as kill switches or what ever you want, so you don’t need to have stem pads or eq pads. so you can instantly create am instrumental or acapella, and you can instantly take out vocals to stop clashing in a mix. If you use vdj it allows you to make hardware that serato would make you buy, bdj allows you to create what you want and allocate multiple actions to one button.
I mean sure but it’s really a gimmick with the capacitive knobs. Of the years I had the ii and then the iii never once were they useful for me.
Valid criticisms are noted :)
@@djlouparis Thanks for the feedback. I like the ability to use effects on the mic but honestly it's not something I need to have.
Thanks for your reply! I'm back again 😂 I've taken the deposit from the guy for my ns7iii and I have a Rane One to collect once I make my sale.

how much does a used but almost brand new NS7III going for in 2022? a friend of mine has one. which he bought when the ns7III came out, used it a hand full of times and stored it in it's case. so the unit is immaculate condition. no dings or dents, no scratches what so ever. in a case plus he has the screens.
Dope review. Would love to see a 4 channel option one day.
My guess is that we will not see a 4-channel Rane. Maybe a Denon but i still put that out as a low probability.
What do you do with 4 channels?
It's going to take a lot of getting used to
Almost any switch of a device takes some getting used to. I think the One is def worth the time invested to learn.
I understand what you mean but I guess I will have to try for maybe. Thanks for the info!
Great overview and comparison. The Rane One is next on my wishlist! How does the output and gain to noise ratio compare to the Rane 62?
@@djlouparis Thanks for your detailed answer!
@@djlouparis Thanks! I'll definitely be getting one - just waiting for stock!!
@@DJRobZee most excellent!!
That can be found at pariscreative.com/live.
i love my ns7 and ns7 III
Both solid machines. But the are some interesting advantages to the One that would make you love that too. :)
I have the ns7iii. Don't know how long they will keep updating the drivers, but if it fades out, I hope Rane comes out with the 4 channel version
@@djlouparis I spin with 4 decks. The other two for instrumentals and acapellas
I having issues with that really throws me off I need to fix my ns7lll
Nice review ... I still think this controller should of gone with a mirrored layout
I personally like the non-mirrored layout but can understand why some would like that.
I would like to ask if the dashboard, (screens) for the NS7-3 will work with the Rane One? (and do you miss the 4 channels)
I never used 4 channels so it's not missed on my end. As for the dashboard there isn't a place you could mount it, but I also never used the screens with the NS7iii. I mean it is just a USB device although I can't see Serato making it work in tandem but I could be wrong. In theory VDJ could.
Can you speak to the feel of the mic switches... I use the on/off switch on my mic inputs often for my Denon controller...
So I went about marking out where each unit was in relationship to "dial gain" and where I adjusted on the channel gain on my digital board:
Rane One - Master Out @ 12 o'clock - Ui24R at +14db
Numark NS7iii - Master Out @ 10 o'clock - Ui24R at +14db
Reloop Elite - Master Out @ 12 o'clock - Ui24R at +0db
The Numark seems to have a pretty odd curve, and then adding the noise in the mix it was a little challenging to dial in nicely.
@@djlouparis OK but you’re still talking about knob positions. Don’t worry about the knob positions go by the meters.
@@PaulReedy more so for reference for people that just straight input into speakers and where things are in relation. For me it of course does not matter because I can stage my gain structure properly at the digital mixer. But there are many (too many) that don't so there has to be some other mental baseline to work off of.
Excellent review 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks!
Deciding if I should buy this controller or 2 used technics and a mixer.
This weights less than the two technics, not even including the mixer. :)
1. I love my 4 channel
2. I love the layout of the NS7III
3. Either do not have on boarding EFX. This is a deal breaker
4. There are somethings that I like about the Rane One but its still not enough to move on from the NS7III
5. I like the laptop rack on the NS7III
6. You're right the pitch slider should be in battle style along the top
7. I actually like having the smaller cue along the side of the middle
I'll wait for the next version or the next
A continuation of the “battle style”. When you’ve done something for 35-40 years one way it becomes muscle memory.
great review!!!
Thanks!
good review , is it possible to run serato and virtual dj on this via the 2 computer inputs , so you can switch from one to the other , ray.
I actually was going to try this out today but my spare hub went wonky. But in theory it should. It's two separate sound cards.
How do the effects sound? A lot of TH-camrs are complaining that they are not professional sounding
Yes for the price it should have the 4 channels weather you use them or nor ijs

I love my ns7ii. But it's soon going to be outdated. I'm hoping to get the rane one for the holidays.
Did you end up getting it? It's a great investment!
@@djlouparis To push more of a BMW that ends up being great at first( Rane One) than a Corolla ( NS7) that has great longevity
Hi thanks so much for the video what's the name of the intro beat i love it
That is from SINY called "Detroit Vibes". I subscribe to a service called Epidemic Sound which has a ton of music to use for a pretty low cost to maintain. Def nice to find tracks like this in it's library.
Hey are you going to do vdj21 review/tutorial it would be really appreciated thanks very much for the reviews tho

@@djlouparis So you saying Numark is done??
great review!! but no thanks i will wait till the next model because to be honest from the NS7iii
this is a step backwards you even back down to just two channels and less effects
and less compatibility
The One has had VDJ support for months now (www.rane.com/the-rane-one-now-supports-djay-pro-ai-and-virtual-dj/) (th-cam.com/video/smxN3_DjQtM/w-d-xo.html)
4-channel controllers IMO are pretty worthless.
Can I connect my video screen to it that I use from the ns7iii?
This seems to be a more recurring question so I had to test things out:
1) In Serato it does not matter. It likely expecting the NS7ii or NS7iii to be connected so even with things hooked up it wont work unless Serato makes some changes to that
2) In VDJ it does work, but with caveats:
2a) There is no place to mount the monitors directly on the One
2b) You have to deliver 12v/2a power to it. There is no power delivery mechanism on the controller
@@djlouparis I love not looking at my computer screen the entire time.. The numark screen allows me to get away from Serato lol
I just wish the one had a screen like the 72
That would def up the price.
Wondering why there is such a lack of companies showing of DJ hardware (In Music wasn't represented @DJX2021) #DJX2021
P.S.
New rane is dope
No doubt!
Does this have mic effects ?
Nothing on board. You could def have a software-level applied to the mic if needed.

CAN YOU USE VIRTUAL DJ WITH THIS CONTROLLER
100%
My thoughts on that (th-cam.com/video/MarTwroZxAw/w-d-xo.html)
As for scratching, this was not some show off video of scratching skills. This is a product review. ;)

Numark is part of inMusic (same as Rane) and you will never see a moving platter option from them again. They are budget-entry only now. The Rane One is superior to the NS7/II/III in nearly every way.

NOT a fan of the Rane Controller. Buttons seem very sensitive and prone to break, I prefer more of the drum pad style buttons.
This has the mix of Akai + 62 style pads. And I have owned a 62 for years and it's buttons still are solidly in place.
Don't talk down on the ns7iii it's still rocking the party and it 4 channel the Rane One is nice but only 2 channel
The NS7ii/iii was the best moving platter controller that was out, and it beat most standard controllers. I was a little surprised to hear how noisy the output was on it though. I am glad Rane put a quality soundcard in.
NS7ii/iii > Rane One. Rane One is overpriced and lacks vs NS7III or even the II
Let's hear what Rane One did better that justifies a 2 channel dj controller to be the same debut price as an almost 10 year old controller."
1) There are literally two videos on this very subject.
For me the biggest selling points are 1) 10 lbs lighter than my NS7iii 2) A far cleaner sounding soundcard (x2) 3) no nonsense design (I don't care for the all red/white Numark design, the capacitive knobs, or the screens) 4) a smaller footprint 5) rane design quality
The only real negative as I see is the stiff non-changable channel faders.
