I agree Chris. I've got an original NS7 and the platters are just awesome. For a controller that came out 12 years ago I think it's still up there in comparison with the new controllers I've seen. My main problem now is that Numark won't release drivers for the latest operating systems so I need to keep one of my Mac laptops on OSX 10.1 so I can still use it. Great unit though. I think the Rane One is the only new controller I like that I've tried in shops, due to the realistic moving platters and the way they respond.

Seriously, why the f aren't they making a newer and lighter version to woop everyone's ass again in the controller game. I was young and broke when I started DJing gigs at 17 so I needed to budget with one V7 and a basic mixer but my goal was to own a NS7, I tried looking for one a new one last year and I was sad to see I'm probably never going to fulfill that dream now that I want to mix again for fun. I like the way you put it Aaron! Also, 10 years is a lot of time for controllers to develop. Looks are very different too; they used to be a lot thicker from what I remember.
I just purchased this one and I have to say that I am very excited to get it. I am new to the controller game so I’m looking forward to learning more about it. Thank you for sharing this with us. Merry Christmas 🎄
Rane makes high quality hardware and in the 90s it would have been my dream to have so much technology in such a small piece of hardware. But you also develop yourself further and develop other preferences that are important to you. Still, the Rane Controller is a great piece of hardware at a good price. And you get a good turntable feeling without taking a whole suitcase of LPs with you.
A big flaw are the line faders. They wear out fast and to remove them, you have to disassemble the whole unit into pieces. As an experience electronic engineer as I am, it takes me more than an hour to replace the line faders and I guess after a couple of replacement, the foil cables will fail.
Great review! I'm in doubt between Rane and Prime 4 To be honest, the only advantage I see in Rane is the aesthetics, I like the motorized turntable, the Prime 4 has 4-channel features in simultaneous use that not even Pioneer offers... I think easier to keep a pair of turntables along with a controller
Mahalo for the overview....as an old school DJ.....I love the spinning platters...it is one of the main reasons why I have the RANE ONE controller.... and my regular set is it's big Brother!
I almost got it on a whim because I love vinyl and I love mobility of controllers, but glad I passed. Having mixed on a Rane mixer and tables, this really shows Rane's bad side because for the price point, the quality you would expect just isn't there. My initial thought was "if only this thing had standalone capability". Having to run every single feature on the software, you can get a DDJ 800 or 1000 for less. And you can still have external turntables or CDJs. Now to be fair, this is a first gen of its kind, they really can improve on it later down the road. Standalone functionality with a screen like a XDJ RX and I would be sold in a heartbeat. But would have to stick at the price it is now or less. Just my opinions. Either way I love that this exists.
Great controller! I respect your personal opinion but what you mentioned are NOT problems or obstacles for someone not buying the Rane ONE. I tested it at a friend's studio for 2 hours and I like it. Personally I'm using 4 Technics SL-1200Gs, the best investment LONG TERM and I'm using them with SERATO PRO DVS.
Fair enough bud! These videos are based on my personal opinions and impressions, but I do want to encourage others to try out the equipment if they can, so everyone can have a hands on impression of the controller. Glad you enjoyed it though!
I started DJing waaay back in the day when controllers or even CD decks didn`t exist so i used (and learnt) on vinyl turntables (how I miss those 1210s). So, my muscle memory is tuned to motorized platters and i naturally prefer them. it took some time adjusting to get used to unmotorized platters on CDJ/controllers etc. That said, unmotorized platters have some a long way since and with having tension adjust etc. I've become accustomed to them. in my opinion scratch and battle - DJing motorized decks. However, when it comes to edm/house/techno etc. mixing wit having 4 decks or 4 deck controller is the better option. ( i tried DJing with 4 vinyl decks once, it wasn`t easy lol)
Great video, I’m just starting to be a mobile DJ and not into scratching that much. Do you think this would be a good upgrade from the pioneer SB3??? 🍀
🍀 I'm Skoundrel a dj based out of Nashville and I mix on a DDJ1000SRT. The Rane One looks awesome and I'd love to try One out. Thank you for all of the helpful videos Carlo! 🍀

Is it possible to play from usb - flashdisks or ssd disks, connecting usb hub or direct, is it possible to work it in standalone mode to use eq on it and moving flatters to get start position of the track ?
I have an issue with mine from day one. When I put the up faders at 50% there is a terrible popping noise that occurs. I thought it was the venues speakers or amp, but yeah it is pretty bad. I actually prefer my Rev 5 over my Rane One due to being much lighter, the on-board stems, and the backspin on the platters, plenty of real estate and nothing is cramped on the board, which allows me to rest my palms on the controller without triggering samples or cues. .... I have enough room to set my keys or lighter on the controller, which I always misplace in venues..LOL. Also my booth is 1/4 inch I do NOT like the XLR booth on the Rane One.
IMHO i think is the best controller right now. I was planning to buy the DDJ-1000,but then i realize its been almost 3 years since its release. then i saw the Rane One,and im telling you,if Pioneer dont release a better version of the DDJ-1000,by the end of 2021...IM GONNA GET MY RANE ONE, ON CHRISTMAS =)
🍀 Motorizedbplatters, well I use a s4 mk3 because I prefer Traktor and I turn the platters on for scratching but you have to because in jog mode your cue point moves, but even if they fixed that I'd still use Motorized platters, but if I'm not scratching I don't want my platters moving.
hey there thank you for the inspiration, I just bought one due to its the most versatile thing for me for the price plus it gives me new ways to practice. 🍀 its overkilll for weddings but its definitely going to be a good conversational piece.
Oh yeah dude, the moving platters go a long way in upping the experience on the Rane One! The NS7 is an absolute classic as well. Keep the love for music (DJing and singing) alive bud!
I just got mine this week. Trying to unlearn 10 years of muscle memory from the layout of the NS7/NS7ii is difficult. The thing I miss the most is the BPM Meter on the top middle of the NS7ii - I never use the sync button and that visual indicator was helpful
this video was super helpful. I'm currently trying to save to get a RANE ONE before the end of February! Going on tour and need something portable yet personal. This seems to be it. Definitely having a hard time getting funds for it though
Hi, I have and old Denon MCX 8000 controller for serato ad i am very happy with it, 4 channel REAL mixer, DVS ready, satandalone controller (with only 2 channel) I use it with 2 CDJ 3000 connected with or without dvs and after five years I cannot buy a controller better than this !
My problems is definitely left deck pitch fader is a bit to close to ch 1 fader gets in my way sometimes. Second the pitch bend buttons is to near the crossfader for me. Last in the list no screens for effects otherwise the best sounding controller out as of now my opinion.
Just got mine in today. Only got to play with it for an hour. But im about to hit a late night practice session. I absolutely love it far. I instantly felt why moving platters is more invigorating. I loved feeling the slip mat move under my hand while holding the platter. The release felt do good. The scratching felt so good. I recommend starting on jog wheels just to truly be able to appreciate turntables when you get to them. Im so glad I started with DDJ jogwheels and going to Rane. I just cant stress enough how good it feels to use the Rane One. But I do agree... no hardware effects for this price of a controller is a super bummer. But having the fx paddles kind of sooths the sadness... but not as much as hardware fx would have made the Rane One championship level.
@@djcarlo if you get to this , and if you dont mind me asking. What IS your favorite controller, or just what YOU consider the absolute best dj gear? Just out of curiosity. You're so good at what you do, i would love to know what YOUR dream set up consists of. Even if you actually own your dream setup already. Do you prefer CDJs? Or turntables? I know that question can get complicated because the technology of CDJs is good for modern music and clubs these days, but Turntables obviously hold dear to the hearts of any turntablist. Are high end Turntable Mixer setups as good as CDJs on a technology basis?
Attending the #DJX2021 #DJX21 in Atlantic City. Seen both the Rane One vs the DDJ-1000 in person, sadly unlike shows of past, no one from Dennon, Rane, Gemini, Numark, or American DJ. I remember in days past when every company that made DJ equipment had a rep at the Expo. I am torn between the controllers listed. The XDJ-XZ is out of stock, supply was unknown by Pioneer (used 4 months of supplies to make sure they had gear to sell). The DDJ-1000 and SRT were available (full list price) at the expo, and lot's of DJs were purchasing them. The Denon DJ Prime 4 (didn't look at, mainly because I was going to go with a DDJ 800/1000 maybe a DDJ 400). A booth was using the Rane One (white) and it caught my attention with those platers, I had to buy one while I had the money and chance. It arrives Friday (the 13th) 😱
So I have a Numark, NS7iii and can't see myself letting it go... I am due for upgrade but will go for Dennon Prime 4, just because of 4 deck feature, SoundSwitch Integration and it being standalone. Not all my gigs I need to show off my scratching capabilities. Great Review but I believe the legacy controller (numark ns7) that this is built on is still gold.
Quite nice but expensive. I suggest use what you have and learn more dj techniques by practicing. Also sign up to record pools. The music types we play at gigs makes a difference. Not the equipment.
I wouldn't say that but I got some that will fix the problem it's a kit with the controls with problems such as these kind of problems you want 4-channel mixing I have an idea for that
@@djcarlo it's just I'm thinking out loud like I think I could build something with a computer module with building and chassis part making it like a standalone with the computer and power supply running from the battery to the controller and computer
What if you dont want to get into turntablism and you're not into scratching . What if you just like mixing , dubbing it up would Rane be the controller I'm looking for ?
Could do a tribute video on NS7,not even a review an impression as a legacy equipment is more suited. It was so ahead of its time and i really feel that it stands its ground with all it has compared to today's standards.I am not asking to compare it to rane one that would be a bad demonstration for a legacy gear, just first impressions.
☘️ Unit is great. Out of your 3 minus point the one I do share with after renting it for a day is the FX being software-based. Everything else about this controller is great. Only thing holding me from making the move from my MCX8000 is the standalone mode using USB thumb drive (best backup option for a mobile DJ)
If you set properly an iDevice (iPhone/iPad) you can plug a usb drive to them and transform it in pseudo-denon prime (and if DjPlayer gets supported alongside Djay pro even better with DVS and other amazing features from that software…)
I used to be old school direct Drive Turntables, and then Cds came out, Then I come across the DENON DJ5000s Game changer for CDs .. All paired with a DJM600 and Vestax PDX2000 Decks.. Yes I was a 4 Deck Dj.
I have this one on my list as one of the top 5 I’m debating on getting, I know there’s a new one coming out soon of the Rane One, but I really would like to have a motorized wheel like my old 1200’s. I’ve been bouncing around looking at the Rev7, Denon Prime 4, Rane One and a couple of others, but I’d like to get my hands on the Rane One and get a feel for it, but I would have to get Serato and learn it as well. Thanks for the review Carlo!!!!
Sad to say that there is no hardware built-in effects unlike in the DDJ-1000 but that controller is a beast. Honestly I am picking the 1000 because I prefer jog wheels and hardware effects

I'm not with moving platters nothing hurts with those I can care less if they move or not tho
I don't like moving platters and its uncomfortable to use in my opinion. But scratching on jog wheels is fine though
Yes, i do love them. I have the same 7" platters on my SC5000ms and I'd never go back to boring static jog wheels. The accuracy and feeling that it gives to the music and makes me feel more interactive with it is worth it imo.

Great review! Just a heads up for folks who may not know. In order to make the Serato effects (like the delay for example) louder, longer, and just as powerful as the built-in internal effects of other controllers…..
1.) in the Serato Software, take it out of “Multi-Effects Mode” (the 3 dots on the far right side of the Serato Effects screen) and put in into “Single-Effects Mode” (the single dot right below the 3 dots)…
2.) then simply turn up the “Feedback”.

Moving platters are what any dj should love bcuz it's so close to real turntables.
Admittedly, I do like them, but nothing can replace the feel of 1200s. It does come fairly close though!

Mmhmm there is always a time and a place for something!
hey there thank you for the inspiration, I just bought one due to its the most versatile thing for me for the price plus it gives me new ways to practice. 🍀 its overkilll for weddings but its definitely going to be a good conversational piece.
Hahahaha, absolutely Michael! People will ask (and will definitely ask to try it)
I love the moving Platters. My Favorite controller was the NS7 III for a very long time.
Oh yeah dude, the moving platters go a long way in upping the experience on the Rane One! The NS7 is an absolute classic as well. Keep the love for music (DJing and singing) alive bud!
Pare, great breakdown. Pinoy champion represent! Mabuhay 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🫡
Salamat pre! Glad you enjoyed the review!
I love this. I've been using my NS7ii since I replaced my NS7 and have been waiting for a worthy successor.
It's fantastic!
Believe me, it DOES cost quite a pretty penny Miles, but it's totally worth it. Good luck on your tour buddy!
@@djcarlo Is there any way you can help me reach my goal? That would mean so much to me
Hi, I have and old Denon MCX 8000 controller for serato ad i am very happy with it, 4 channel REAL mixer, DVS ready, satandalone controller (with only 2 channel) I use it with 2 CDJ 3000 connected with or without dvs and after five years I cannot buy a controller better than this !
Ohhh, what you've got there is pretty much a top tier beast though! No need to go too far from there
All I can say is new hardware, new software, and stem separation technology, is what got me back into DJing, let's all have fun, and mash sh@# up!!!
That'll be done in a couple of years for sure. The future is now!
@@djcarlo stem separation is present not future… Serato is getting rear more than ever…
Great video and really like the way you edit and put the right time in these videos answering the questions. Fellow DJs appreciate this channel
For sure! And thank you for the kind words! I try to give my all in these videos, and im glad you appreciate that 🤩
My problems is definitely left deck pitch fader is a bit to close to ch 1 fader gets in my way sometimes. Second the pitch bend buttons is to near the crossfader for me. Last in the list no screens for effects otherwise the best sounding controller out as of now my opinion.
I see your point. But adjusting those things is something one can easily get used to :)
I have mines for 3 years now & I love it
It's still pretty great!
Thanks for this amazing video. It's time for me to upgrade my Numark NS6II 🍀Would love to see some Bollywood mixes
For sure Sri! Glad you enjoyed the review!
Brilliant Video thorough and honest. I think You might be able to adjust the channel faders not sure😉
Takes me back to the denon dns-3500 days... miss those cd players
Oh man, I think I've only seen those a handful of times! They came out around the time I started DJing
Good review. Thx brotha. This help me much since im in the middle deciding of having the R1 , this review give me much info.
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed the review, and that you found it useful!
I’m letting my Rane 12s go after 3 years. :( but I think the Rane 1 will be a great decision!! Thank you 🙏 🍀
Go for it Johnny! Why are you letting go of your 12s though?
I'm glad you're enjoying it Teddy! Still one of my favorite controllers at the moment too.
Hello Carlo, if you have to choose between the Rane One and the Rane Performer, which one would you choose?
Performer for sure! It has built in hardware FX
@@djcarlo yes same for me too, thank you keep it up 👍
Attending the #DJX2021 #DJX21 in Atlantic City.
DJ Carlo to the World...
Always making 💯 sense
Thanks man! Just trying to break things down for ya
I perfetti moving platters. Picked up the rane 1 last week . Up'd my dj scratching 💯
It's honestly really great! Glad you enjoy the Rane One bud!
Thanks for the feedback bud! Glad you liked the review, but I do have to admit, the NS7 is still a legendary piece of hardware!
Thanks Carlo for another solid review 🙃. I hear you can buy custom vinyl top vinyl with logo's etc. ?? Love all that you do my friend.. 💥
I've heard that too Craig! I think you've just gotta reach out to some local businesses for that; I've seen a few of them online as well!
Quite nice but expensive. I suggest use what you have and learn more dj techniques by practicing. Also sign up to record pools. The music types we play at gigs makes a difference. Not the equipment.
Exactly. But of course, DJ companies will always be making new stuff to cater to DJs :)
🍀 yo great video. I’ma new DJ who is learning everyday. I started with the SB3 and would love one day to upgrade to the Rane One!
That's gonna be one heck of an upgrade! I'm sure you will benefit much from it :)
I wouldn't say that but I got some that will fix the problem it's a kit with the controls with problems such as these kind of problems you want 4-channel mixing I have an idea for that
What kit is this?
@@djcarlo it's just I'm thinking out loud like I think I could build something with a computer module with building and chassis part making it like a standalone with the computer and power supply running from the battery to the controller and computer
Look exactly like my Numark Mixtrack Platinum FX, i wanted to upgrade
It's an excellent controller to upgrade to Lord Stark! Highly recommend it!
Great review, can I also use this for EDM without scratching also?
Of course! Any genre can work
i love your style of dj. bro i gotta learn some of ur skillz fi real. thanks for this vid
It's all about the practice bud!
What if you dont want to get into turntablism and you're not into scratching . What if you just like mixing , dubbing it up would Rane be the controller I'm looking for ?
Not this one. The Rane Four would be more ideal for that kind of set up
Love the rane one , the only thing I don’t like is the channel faders it don’t make sense to so stiff
It's a nearly perfect machine for me! But I see what you mean by the channel faders. They need to loosen up a bit haha
@@djcarlo can they be replaced like the crossfader
Thinks for this honest review
For sure Razer! I just like telling it as it is with these controllers! :D
I would if I had one. thanks for the suggestion :)
Dj Carlo make djing looks simple always!!
haha! You can do it!
Thanks man! Hopefully it'll be easy for you in the future!
For me the ddj sx3 is an awesome controller. Best bang for your buck imo.
Great review and awesome channel! I ordered one a fews days ago and can’t wait for it to get here!
You'll have no regrets for it! I love this thing!
Have fun!
Hmm you got a good point there. I still love the Rane ONE despite all its flaws. Thanks for watching till the end :)
If you set properly an iDevice (iPhone/iPad) you can plug a usb drive to them and transform it in pseudo-denon prime (and if DjPlayer gets supported alongside Djay pro even better with DVS and other amazing features from that software…)
What kind of place rents things like this? There's some gear I would love to rent and play with!
I use the Denon Prime 4. But damn, I still am so curious about the decks of the Rane One! 🍀
Try it out if you can Laurens! It's somewhat different from the Prime 4
Ive bought the Rane One !! Thanks coach Carlo !!!
Wow that's great, Garel! I'm sure you will love it! Enjoy and thanks for being a member :)
I want to fix my NS7ii.. can't justify paying top dollar for the Rane One when it is basically a newer old ass NS7ii
While that is technically true, the Rane One also does have a few things tightened and upgraded technology over the NS7ii
Man i wish i could afford one of these right now. What an unbelievable little piece of kit that is.
Great review anyway carlo
Glad you enjoyed the review man! It *is* a bit pricey, but well worth it!
This was a dope review on the Rane One. Thanks!
You're welcome! Hope you found this video quite informative :)
Moving platters make better for scraching.
I did like that about the Rane One!
Yes I love moving platters, it makes me feel like I'm really DJing.
It really adds to the experience!
A pro dj from Nigeria, i love moving platters but i don't have enough money to buy one.. I would love to get the Rane 1 someday
Still debating on getting this but the fact the the platters aren’t centered messes with my OCD
Hahahaha, minor detail, but it's well worth the money, believe me!
☘️I have a ddj sb3 and can't wait to upgrade to the rane one in a few months. I have gigs set up that will pay it off in no time!
That's awesome! You'll love the Rane ONE for sure :) Thanks for watching till the end!
I'm excited for you man!!
I used to be old school direct Drive Turntables, and then Cds came out, Then I come across the DENON DJ5000s Game changer for CDs .. All paired with a DJM600 and Vestax PDX2000 Decks.. Yes I was a 4 Deck Dj.
Gotta love the evolution of technology bud!
I’m afraid to buy the REV 7 because of issues and reliability! So i am still on the fence
It's pretty okay as far as I see it! But trust your instincts on these things.
Well done presentation,thank you.😊
Thank you! Hope you enjoy my other reviews too. What did you think about the Rane One?
🍀 DirrtyXris from Austin TX. I have the One, but i did switch to an Innofader. Everything else is perfect!
Woah that's amazing! How's the Innofader?
awesome!
Great video and can't wait to hear more commentary on jogs vs. moving platters. 🍀
Thanks member! Yeah same here. Hopefully I got some more players with moving platters so I can discuss it!
More to come!
Best to feel it out first Benny! If you can find a place showcasing demos, then it's best to see if you like its physical feel!
Sad to say that there is no hardware built-in effects unlike in the DDJ-1000 but that controller is a beast. Honestly I am picking the 1000 because I prefer jog wheels and hardware effects
Sure thing!
That is perfectly valid! I'm sure you'll enjoy that unit :)
Finally. Ive waited for this review for 6 months😍😍😍😍🤩
Hope it was worth the wait! Thanks for waiting :)
@@djcarlo it was. Thnx very much🙏🏾
haha me too actually!! hope it helps you!
