Are you able to adjust track speed & beat match with the outer part of the jog wheels as you would on a normal controller? Is it still possible with spinning platters? Thanks
Question: Why should I leave my S4 MK3 for the RANE ONE? -the 2 are motorized with autonomous mixer, - the S4 MK3 has hardware effects (which works) as a stand-alone mixer, - All the effects of RANE ONE are therefore software from SERATO, - button to change the key of a song with the S4 MK3 for harmonic mixing - I only see the Pitch on the ONE and not even the Quantiz for the setting. - sound card: 24Bit / 96KHz for the S4 MK3 and 24Bit / 48Bit for the RANE ONE thank you to enlighten me
Probably lost in the sea of comments but originally a vinyl Dj dabbling in scratching (mid 90s). Wanted mp3 convenience so back when released went for Traktor S4 with Scratch Pro kit for my 1210s. Never really gelled with it. Had a go on my friends Pioneer 1000 with Recordbox a few months back so was contemplating that. He recently advised me though its now SUBSCRIPTION software. No thanks. Did some researching and realised this is now available. Not a fan of Traktor software more so than the unit (although tyhe little jog wheels are good but not my bag, meaning i needed to keep the 1210s, but never used Serato. I've seen it used everywhere for years but have no option to get hands on where I live as there is nowhere local to me, so the One would be a blind purchase. I want to downsize my setup to an AIO, so this looks perfect. And it's Rane. As an experienced user of Serato, is there anything to be concerned about before taking the plunge? Great vid.
No not at all, all of the DJ softwares work basically the same way, if you never really got on with Traktor then there isn't much reason to be worried about moving over
@@digitaldjtips Thanks for the response, really is very much appreciated. The S4 would be great for house music and normal mixing etc. it just doesn't fit my use case very well: I absolutley NEED that scratchbank so now just waiting for bonus time!
I have been using the original NV. Should I switch to this? I want to get better at scratching, and I think either a turntable or motorized platter dj controller would help.
It won’t hurt to learn to scratch on motorised platters. But you could also consider a DVS system, say a couple of Numark NTX1000s and a Numark Scratch mixer. It will cost a little less than this, and give you the full “vinyl” experience for learning to scratch. Ultimately, you can learn the moves and timing of scratching on pretty much anything.
5:15 Actually you're wrong about that. You can see on the screen that you've assigned the effects to both decks (the little blue 1 and 2 boxes). In Serato DJ you have the ability to assign the effects to either deck separately.
Here are some of my thoughts 1. I think the effects implementation on this unit is just like the Numark Mixtrack FX, where it has effect paddles that controls software FX, actually I would prefer the on board (hardware) FX rather than the software FX. 2. I really like to scratch, but I'm not a fan of moving platters. But it is nice to have that moving platter feature on a DJ controller 3. It's way too pricey, more expensive than the DDJ-1000SRT ($1500 vs. $1200) 4. I know one of the certain reasons why it's expensive because of its metal build (which I don't prefer), I usually prefer plastic, lightweight DJ gears But in overall, this controller is a beast!!! Maybe there are some stuff that I am not used to
Hi Phil, does Serato STILL use the loop engine for loop-rolls?, which means you can't loop-roll within a active loop because as soon as you do Serato throws you out the loop!? Unlike Traktor which doesn't have this issue due to Traktors separate FX engine.
I’m about a year into my DJing journey and looking for what will be my next controller to grow into over time. I currently have the Pioneer FLX4. I’m not heavy on scratching but I would love to learn. Not to mention those motorized platters just hold my attention. Do you think this would be overkill as an upgrade from the FLX4?
This is a solid option to move all the unhappy Pioneer users into a better direction! Just wish it had 4 channels, sampler volume, single deck effect option, etc. Hard to move on from my DDJ-1000 when it does so many things so well...
That’s why we compared it to the DDJ-1000SRT at the end, which we think is the better general all-rounder. This is a little bit more specific in who it is aiming at.
Great review thanks. The split cue thing, I have never really understood, and your explanation didn't really make sense. 25 years ago, I was playing at a club, and the monitor speaker for cuing was flapping like a pair of flared jeans in a gale, so I turned it off, and just listened to the cue track over the top of the main mix, in stereo, in my headphones. I liked it so much, I continued to mix that way from that moment on, it was much more accurate. Why would anyone want main in one ear and cue in the other ?
It’s just historically the most popular way to DJ without a monitor but the way you’re doing is fine too lots of DJs like that and most equipment has that control on it which is a bonus
@@digitaldjtips Thank you for the reply. I am pretty oldskool, and started DJ-ing in 1980, so I suspect learned the hard way and split cue facility was just something that came along AFTER I had already established my technique. I did have an Ecler mixer years ago with split cue but I never used it.
Hi Phil thanks for the good review. One question. How is the noise of the fan of the motor? Do you really hear that noise when you re in quited environment?
I was very excited & considering on getting this lovely Dj controller but when I heard you saying that there isn't any dedicated on board sound effects I'm not sure if to buy it now. Can you add a sound effects machine to it?
Phil - First, your courses have helped guide my transition from the vinyl/cassette/reel-to-reel analogue world to digital. Many thanks! I'm retired, old school, and surprisingly VERY busy - 3 events next week. Did clubs and radio in the 70s/80s on 1200s. Have a DDJ-SX3. If I bought the Rane, it would be for the familiarities/similarities of 1200s. (Scratch functions maybe a bonus.) Am I missing something? I'd appreciate your thoughts.
A controller is a controller is a controller ,I don't scratch so not for me. I think guys coming from vinyl should appreciate this more though. A great review as usual.
Looks good! I literally just got a Denon SC6000M although to save money on getting another I might consider this! Do you think they will ever make a version that can read straight from USB? Would be great to see something like this that can do that with a small screen!
Can you use the up faders for cutting/chopping like on a s9 or 72? All controllers I've used have resistance more for fading songs/volume. A controller with the up faders like a standalone mixer would be nice
I got mine today Wow upgraded from the sb3 It sounds better That's the first thing I noticed It got a lot more out of my speakers Mixing was a little more difficult than on the sb3

- the S4 MK3 has hardware effects (which works) as a stand-alone mixer,
- All the effects of RANE ONE are therefore software from SERATO,
- button to change the key of a song with the S4 MK3 for harmonic mixing
- I only see the Pitch on the ONE and not even the Quantiz for the setting.
- sound card: 24Bit / 96KHz for the S4 MK3 and 24Bit / 48Bit for the RANE ONE
thank you to enlighten me
This is a scratch console, for scratch DJs - no reason to switch to it from what you already have.
As always, great review Phil. Pros and cons of using Rane One with Algoriddim Djay Pro? Would love to see a quick demo. Cheers!
Thanks for the suggestion, we'll see what we can do :)
I know some might see this as defeating the object but...Can you disable the crossfader like on the DDJs?
Is it ok for mix Dj as well ? Phil we just love your reviews n demos 👍🏻also djay pro n virtual Dj now supported on this ? thanks !
Sure, if you want the motorised jogwheel feel.
13:18 stop tempting my broke ass Phil 😭 great review!
Ha, sorry!
I would love to see a comparison of the Rane One vs DDJ-1000SRT.
Thanks for the suggestion!
yes Traktor it be great to have this ones jog wheels
Yes indeed...
You're not going to get it.
Rane Killed It Again. And for mobile and a club dj like me. its a perfect solution . if the budget is not too alarming. how much is it??
$1500
Tbh,all the things that are missing, I'm sure that they will bring out a mk2 version, plus I'm sure that it will sell well.
What would you say is missing that is important to you, Adrian?
5:15 Actually you're wrong about that. You can see on the screen that you've assigned the effects to both decks (the little blue 1 and 2 boxes). In Serato DJ you have the ability to assign the effects to either deck separately.
Yes, you can. But not from the controller. You have to click on the screen in Serato.
Here are some of my thoughts
1. I think the effects implementation on this unit is just like the Numark Mixtrack FX, where it has effect paddles that controls software FX, actually I would prefer the on board (hardware) FX rather than the software FX.
2. I really like to scratch, but I'm not a fan of moving platters. But it is nice to have that moving platter feature on a DJ controller
3. It's way too pricey, more expensive than the DDJ-1000SRT ($1500 vs. $1200)
4. I know one of the certain reasons why it's expensive because of its metal build (which I don't prefer), I usually prefer plastic, lightweight DJ gears
But in overall, this controller is a beast!!! Maybe there are some stuff that I am not used to
Thanks for weighing in Christian
Hi Phil, does Serato STILL use the loop engine for loop-rolls?, which means you can't loop-roll within a active loop because as soon as you do Serato throws you out the loop!? Unlike Traktor which doesn't have this issue due to Traktors separate FX engine.
great review, in your opinion rane one vs prime 4 who wins?
Neither, completely different DJs will love them
Nice review, can it control 4 decks in Serato, such as the 1000 SRT?
No it can't
I’m about a year into my DJing journey and looking for what will be my next controller to grow into over time. I currently have the Pioneer FLX4. I’m not heavy on scratching but I would love to learn. Not to mention those motorized platters just hold my attention. Do you think this would be overkill as an upgrade from the FLX4?
You do not need motorised platters to scratch. I’d say it is too soon to upgrade
The platter is just like my Denton 3500 in 2005 !
Similar for sure but then again turntables were invented decades ago and they haven't changed much...
AM IN LOVE WITH THIS BRO
It's awesome!
Listen to the heart! I just ordered mine! Thank you!
Awesome! Enjoy
Cool done ! Well I am not into Serato, but I appreciate Your openminded Review ;)
Thanks Nicos. What DJ software or system do you use?
@@digitaldjtips maybe there will be more Softwares like VDJ in support later? Maybe a mapping?
Great work Bro! Thanks!
Thanks a lot!
Phil to me it's just missing one simple knob a sample volume knob, but all in all it's a great controller.
It’s a shift option on one of the knobs if I remember right, from memory not sure which
Can you please do a review testing a corded and a cordless mic? Some controllers have issues with the mics sounding terrible.
Thanks for the suggestion
when you said that the EQ is a 'kill EQ' this made me wonder If the EQ is not controlling the software or operating independently of it?
Hi Phil thanks for the good review. One question. How is the noise of the fan of the motor? Do you really hear that noise when you re in quited environment?
It is noticeable in a quiet environment
Rane and Numark the same company now? I got the NS-7 II and i love it.
Yes, they have been for several years.
I was very excited & considering on getting this lovely Dj controller but when I heard you saying that there isn't any dedicated on board sound effects I'm not sure if to buy it now. Can you add a sound effects machine to it?
It doesn't have any inbuilt but you can use all the Serato effects with it :)
No, I think you’d love them. -Phil
A controller is a controller is a controller ,I don't scratch so not for me. I think guys coming from vinyl should appreciate this more though. A great review as usual.
They definitely will :) Thanks!
@@digitaldjtips Hey Phil any chance in your busy schedule to check out my mixes. www.mixcloud.com/peresdixon
Sorry, we get asked this so much we'd not have time for anything else if we did :)
@@digitaldjtips I know,I am the G.O.A.T though,Lol.
Hi Phil - as a mobile dj will this Rane 1 sound great without an external Mixer ? Also will the DDJ1000SRT sound okay without an external mixer ?
Yes to both
Thanks Phil 👍
No problem Gustavo
Every company pushes Serato. What about other DJ software? Is Traktor exclusive to NI? What about Virtual DJ?
Serato is easily the number one software for scratch DJs, hence the choice of Serato here.
well nice review , phil what is the name of your laptop stand , would love to get one like this
geni.us/Hm2vgMc It's this one :)
That's one hell of a wonderful review there phil❤❤
Thanks very much!
Looks good! I literally just got a Denon SC6000M although to save money on getting another I might consider this! Do you think they will ever make a version that can read straight from USB? Would be great to see something like this that can do that with a small screen!
No, I cannot see it.
@@digitaldjtips can always dream 👍😀
Can't wait to see if they come out with a 4 channel motorized controller
Maybe make the job wheel bigger as well.
Definitely a good question...
Thanks!! 👍 😘 Could you do in addition to the DVS ? (with Technis (SL1200) + Timecode vinyl + licence Serato)
Remember the mixer only has two channels.
@@digitaldjtips Yes i know. You have two channels Phono. If you connect Two Technics, could you do DVS ? The soundcard is compatible ?
yes
Can you use the up faders for cutting/chopping like on a s9 or 72? All controllers I've used have resistance more for fading songs/volume. A controller with the up faders like a standalone mixer would be nice
They have more resistance than the crossfader
Are you able to make quick loops with that thing or Serato like when you have those yellow buttons on CDJ's?
Yes it has dedicated loop controls that do that
Can we connect 2 turntables with Rane One and use it as a mixer too? What is your thought on this?
Yes
Would you recommend it for non scratch dj coming from sl1200s (mostly techno)? faders are quite short as I can see.
No not really, sounds like you don't really need something like this
I got mine today
Wow upgraded from the sb3
It sounds better
That's the first thing I noticed
It got a lot more out of my speakers
Mixing was a little more difficult than on the sb3
That is one hell of an upgrade!
This is an awesome controller.. great review Phil ^^v
Thanks Peter
If they made a 4 channel version I’d be in
Rane Two, maybe? 😉
hell - why not break the mould and introduce a third or forth platter too!
@@DrudgeAudio dope idea
