Hello Narc good day man. I have a good idea. Maybe you can pass this to Steven. 🙏 I have a suggestion with items in cash shop. How about all the things you can buy in cash shop are just upgrades of the items you can obtain in the game. This will maintain the sweetness of hard work and basically eliminate the stigma of "ah he/she just bought that" For example I obtain an item rare above quality. This will unlock an upgrade in the store you can buy making it look cooler. This is a great idea I got from the Dota2 Item system. There are items in dota that looks cool, but will look cooler if you buy the gem that will unlock cooler aesthetic of the item. Hoping you have read this. 🙏
How did I miss this game had unavoidable, non-consensual PvP in it? There is no way I'm going to touch this game. Trolls and hackers will rule and run the game. It's completely stupid. No gave has ever had success with this model. I'm out.
Griefing exists and you need safe starting zones to prevent it. Wow, what a revelation. I guess it required a top streamer to uncover this arcane truth.
No, for it to happen in early playtests just means asmongold will get his ilk deeper into the roots of the game. He does this with every single game he gets paid to play. He joins, his zerg joins, they do something, asmongold whines the game needs to be changed so this thing cant happen. The developers then make something way more casualized than originally to appease him. Repeat on a new game.
People attacking asmon, and getting mad for steven's bans are the same pricks standing on rooftops in lowlevel Zones in WoW and oneshotting newbies, ruining their experience. They do this there, even without any ingame incentive... ffs. Gamers no community needs.
Yah they are shxt people who wanna be shxt people... the "free speech" idiots who use the guise of something good, to suggest they should be able to to WHATEVER they want... even if bad...
Sad people with nothing in their lives. Imagine playing a game so much that you literally have nothing else to do so instead of taking a break, or doing something productive, hell even playing a different game, you decide to just sit and skill-lessly kill players trying to enjoy themselves all day. What a boring sad life
Brainlets really will say he was getting "streamer privilege" when in reality if ANY player was in that situation, they would be looking for assistance from staff otherwise they would just quit the game.
This is the reason why a lot of games don't use this kind of pvp system. Heck, this is the reason why New World pulled the plug on this. It would have died on release, it just had degenerates spawn killing each other on the beach and camping the town exits.
@@Philosophus_Cellulaeye dude you'd log in day 1, 0 acquaintances in the game and somebody would come on a white horse to save your lvl 1 ass xD. Be realistic. Unless you join Zerg guilds or are getting carried by friends who already play nobody is helping you. And pirate software said it best, this behavior is ban'able in eve online, if something is forbidden and punished by ban in eve, it's definitely griefing.
@@KyrosQuickfist streamers not wanting to get stream sniped in games shouldnt affect how games are made. Unfortunately pvp in mmorpgs have obviously been affected by streamers like asmongold
fuck that guy, nobody needs him. He sucked in wow he sucks in all games, nobody cares, and the incells who follow him wont spend money on anything, using him as sponsor is a waste of money, if the GAME IS GOOD, people will flok and thus streamers forced to play it. ALSO HE GOT KILLED CUZ THE GUY ENDORSED THE GENOCIDE IN PALESTINE, FUCK THAT DUDE
@@itsomegali5342 true, after watching what Steven had to say on the matter im very confident he will fix this problem and any other problem that comes up.
@@beardedzeus1337 99% of players in the alpha aren't submitting any bug reports. The only reason they bought access is to play and learn the game early, not help the developers. If that happens to help in the process, great, but calling them testers? That's like me buying my way into a soft opening of a new restaurant and then the place refers to me as a taste tester even if I don't leave a review. It's simply not true.
I bet Steven is mad as hell.. This was a huge opportunity for the project, those few people may have just cost the project several million dollars. lol.
Someone on the outside looking in, I don't think people understand the implications of a freely open-ended PvP system. There's a reason why PvP/PK games have restrictions, safe zones, grace periods, shields, bounty systems, karma systems, faction zones and tutorial protections. It doesn't all the sudden become griefing because its happening to a popular streamer. It's a system that has always had "griefing potential" as a core intended mechanic due to the design. If players can turn Classic WoW into a full blown scorched earth landscape in phase 2, the people in Ashes have no clue what will happen in the future rofl.
The starting area is planned to be a safe zone. And corruption is pretty intense, the issue is that people don't really care if they lose a character because it's an alpha and they'll be wiping it anyways.
I think this is 100% true and people who think it's not true are ignoring all the other games and situations that came before. WoW is still one of the biggest MMORPGs and they got rid of non-consensual PvP years ago and PvE/ RP realms always had the highest populations. FF14 is also one of the biggest and it doesn't have non-consensual PvP. As long as people have money and some time, they will just make a new FREE email, spend some money, and get a new account, grief, and start over. It's not an opinion, it's a statistical and mathematical fact. There is a reason why PvE MMORPGs have higher player counts than PvP MMORPGs.
Ashes has Karma but more punishing aka Corruption, bounty hunting systems for dealing with corrupted players, and tutorial protections. They just are not fully implemented.
@@Zunedoodle77 But this is a weird way of looking at things; you're entirely concerned with ad populum, i.e. assuming that the most players = the best quality. There's still a sizeable enough playerbase which enjoys PvP, a niche exists for it, and games will exist to cater to this niche. If every game was solely concerned with maximizing profits through casting as wide of a demographic-appealing net as possible, there'd be no unique games to begin with.
A group of people get together to use overwhelming power to ruin someones experience. Steven uses his own overwhelming power to ruins those players experience. Those players turn around and cry about having their experience ruined. Copium, mental gymnastics, hypocrisy, irony, there needs to be a new term that encompasses all of the aforementioned terms into one.
Devs banning them surely let's you know it wasn't intended to be that way. They are exploiting systems or a lack of it that are not yet implemented in alpha.
@Justin-jx1ui dude got killed two times and started crying. In an hardcore mmo. With intended PK mechanics that even has punishment for doing so. Heard sharif said it's karma, and not a ban. And the reason he banned them is because he was scared asmon would not advertise his game.
Solid take Narc. The pvp that Asmon experienced did NOTHING to push narrative in game. There was no fighting over resources, nodes, guild castles, or rivalry. This was pure trash actions by trash players. If you were a griefer you need to log out and look in the mirror. I personally don't care for Asmongold, I think his content is not the best of late. He still deserves to play the game and share his experience with people.
Agree. This was not "PVP" this was literally griefing. We have seen plenty of other games where there are no active management or enforcement of the rules where this behavior is basically rewarded. It was sad to see it rear it's head here and that's clearly because of the community that streamer curates. Example: this was neither an issue in previous weeks or with other streamers. That being said I think it was a great "testing alpha" moment, because it is true that this behavior would and will crop up in the future. It's a credit to Steven for defining again that this behavior is NOT what this game is for.
Never put the burden on the player. This is the fault of the devs. People will always abuse and exploit any system to the maximum, and they will never stop. Where there is potential for grief, there will be those who wish to act upon it.
@@stillnotchill2560 Well, I'm happy that this critical fault of the devs has been fixed by banning these retards. And I hope bans for griefing lowbies continue even for normal players. Too bad it's impossible for the devs to moderate it to that extent until the safety zones are implemented.
The devs should have seen this coming, and the pvp suppression system should have been in place in the starting zone. They were warned about this months ago.
they did see this coming, the protections were set to be released in phase 2 of alpha 2, it was in the wiki far before this situation ever happened, the game is still in testing and not anywhere near feature complete.
@@Ranziel1 personally I would prefer asmon didn't play at all because whatever server he's on will inevitably be ruined by his viewers so I couldn't care less if carebear mode isn't enabled for him during NETWORK TESTING. but yes the issue of people potentially being camped in starting zones before they can even figure out how the game works will be fixed.
I fear this situation has forever changed the discussion around AOC. Although I’m not a fan of streamers getting preferred treatment, I think EVERYONE deserves a chance to experience what this game has to offer.
@@IgnatLorinwhat a silly take. Think about it mate. Streamers bring huge numbers of eyes to the game. If you like the game, or want it to succeed you should want streamers to endorse it. Dead games with no players die and go nowhere lmao
I don't like the idea of just having a safe zone, griefers will just wait just outside of them and gank everyone that leaves them. The corruption system should be enhanced to factor in level differences and apply a multiplier to the corruption and continued killing of low-leveled characters should apply harsh penalties that are ***ACCOUNT WIDE*** eventually rendering all characters in the account absolutely unplayable until they write a support ticket and do whatever blood sacrifice or humiliation ritual pilgrimage they need to do to 'redeem themselves'.
Perfect time to expect and talk about mechanics of a polished game when developers CLEARLY said this phase is not about that and they're focusing on other things. And yet still, Narc thinks devs are stupid and they didn't think through stuff... Thin air back on the menu bois! And let's not forget how Narc begged the cult to spam Asmon's chat for him to choose his server, so he could get more of Asmon's viewers and fame xD Fallen so so low.
ive played archeage from beta up to today, safe zones in every region allow toxic players to play around the safe zone borders, they will gate keep the area and either force you to stay in the safe zone until you log out, or if you try to fight back, pop in the safe zone to avoid your retaliation. if the corruption system works as intended, there should be no reason for mindless ganking in nodes. it should be fine unless someone is seriously trying to just go red. if someone is just trying to fight everyone for no reason, they wont last long, as the dedicated community would handle the issue anyway i feel. unless the issue is the massive zerg guilds that will inevitably gate keep regions to keep it to themselves, killing anyone who is in the node and not apart of their zerg
There are many solutions and each of them come with their own up/downside. All mmo's with open world pvp (ex. ESO, new world, WoW, FO76) have some sort of system in place to prevent degrnerate gameplay behaviours from being able to work easily. I'm pretty sure any competent modern game dev can work something out
They use the same system lineage 2 did , going red on killing a player who didn't fight back you become a free target and can drop your gear as a result of being killed while red
It’s clearly both.If this was a random player getting griefed, nobody would even pay attention. And yes, streamers or not ,just getting killed in game for no other reason, but for someone to get their game name on screen for 5 seconds is definitely a disgusting behaviour.
I get what you're saying... But I wouldn't call it 'streamer privilege' I'd call it 'streamer publicity' In theory the GM would act the same no matter who it was happening to.. but in practice there's a good chance it wouldn't be noticed unless that player was vocal about it. While things happening to a big streamer like Asmongold have a large audience and are more likely to actually be brought to the GMs attention quickly.
10:00 idk, I think just guards are funny. I remember I played EQ2, and while you could attack people in cities, you just instantly get destroyed by guards that are all epic x2 or epic x4 (raid bosses essentially) and are always about 20-40 levels above the maximum level. It brought a fun dynamic of sneaking into the opposite faction city as well.. like, you can get in there, but everybody would love to kill you lol.
This doesn't stop people from running into town and killing a few people, making them no longer want to play. I saw a mage in WoW Pom-pyro one dude every 30 min just because he could. Guards would swarm him, kill him, and he would be back to do it again. It only takes a few bad apples to make the juice rotten. For most, they will treat it as you did, but the lowest common denominator will always exist and be there to kick someone in the nuts if they can.
I wanna see how the whole PVP plays out when all systems are implemented. We will not know how it will be at this moment. We can speculate but this is only divination.
Asmon gets ALWAYS harassed in any online game he plays. It's precisely that they're only doing it to Asmon and not the average player because they won't get proper attention nor rewards from doing so
@@AlexOltyan if you watched the video for 2 seconds you'd see that steven literally said that those systems are not in place yet because we're still in early alpha 2.
This is one problem with the game that i saw coming a mile away. A game with open world PvP will be almost impossibel to play for a streamer. Its a reason why im not really a fan of open world PvP, it turns into gankfests with dedicated squads owning the servers ruining the experiance for people that just want to have fun.
Eventually it becomes a game where only the same handful of people play the game. New world had this exact problem and they had to pivot entirely to make the game more PVE or it would have died on release. These type of games are just the wet dreams for a disturbed minority and never survive
The way to tackle this is to limit PVP to a certain level. And only have it enabled during pvp events like caravans. I'll use under level 7 in this example. Any level below 7 should not be able to flag up or be killed by any player higher than level 7. If you are below this level. You shouldn't have any gear that's worth it for higher levels to pk you anyway. This insures that you have enough experience to be able to engage in the PVP mechanics of the game without having safe zones. I still do think that safezones like in towns should be implemented
I agree because the people could just make new level 1 characters and grief him then just delete the corrupted character which bypasses the corruption system.
Or just don't allow pvp INSIDE starter cities lol unless you're corrupted and try to go in those cities then you should be able to kill people and get killed (by guards and people)
@@ItZMaxo Really only asmon has been dealing with this, all the streamers ive been watching haven't had this problem. His fans are so fanatical that they will spend $120 dollars just to get banned.
If you think about the matter for more than 2 minutes, you can imagine that the final game will have pvp suppression at the starting area. Either is gonna be so full of guards that if you fart on another player you get disintegrated, the corruption system will fuck you up if you kill a low level player for no reason or other counter measurments, one can easly imagine that the final game is supposed to have these systems. So, these griefers just abused the fact that these systems were not implemented yet, used an external program (twitch) to get critical informations on when and where asmongold was logging on and then proceeded to totally prevent him from even having a walk in the first 10 square meters of the game. I'm very happy for the permabans and I'm happy to see such a good CEO having his heart fully deep in his project
And if you think about your idea for more than 2 seconds, gank squads will simply wait outside of the safe zone and grief safely outside of the guards' range. GG your idea doesn't resolve anything.
@@Nico78Not first of all, don't talk to me with that salty teenager tone, I don't care if you are chronically online and you think it is normal to approach a stranger like that. Second of all, they have designers, they are professionals, they will find the solutions, not me, your comment is so dumb. Also this is a rare istance of this type of game being a pay to play, so the permabans will be super effective, after some waves of permabans and losing lot of time and irl money, people will probably learn the lesson, expecially if the report system works well and regular players can rat on them easly.
@@SacredSilence95 it's not really a "rare instance" of it being a pay to play game. Perma bans won't be happening. Griefing/camping/ toxic behavior will likely resort to warnings and temporary bans. Why? It's quite simple: funding. The Game needs cash, if they're resorting to having beta testers pay to test the game, odds are they're not going to be too motivated to permanently ban someone offering to give them a steady stream of cash. I'm not sure if you're naive to mmorpg behaviors or just ignorantly stupid.
Not true, give pvp players good fights and they will usually focus on those. We turn into murder hobos when we don't have it. And sadly, most MMOs don't scratch that itch.
Personally I dislike open world PvP but even I know there's better solutions than giving Pker's 30 debuffs and making them lose gear when killed, for example: - Protected areas like starting zones and cities. - PKer gets flagged to be a free-for-all PvP target (Bounty), the bigger the bounty the farther away they are seen in the map) - When a flagged PKer dies he gets a cooldown that prevents him from entering PvP for a while or simply is respawned in a far away zone (maybe a Pker/Rogue/Bandit town), in order to prevent that person from simply coming to the same area again and kill the same target, in other words prevent griefing. -etc
all the things you said was base on kills but people are smarter they don't kill, they lower a player Hp to 5% left and let the mobs kill them. The grief don't get corrupted and he can steel all there loot. the corrupted system just dose not work. they should make players corrupt if they steal other player loot. there is no work around for the pvp that fix's the problem there always going to be a 5head that finds a way
@@Sovereign_Senpai yeah I only gave 3 examples while there are many solutions, for that particular one they would need to make a way for the server to know how much a person was damaged by another player and how recently in order to attribute the kill to the PKer, its basically an assist/elimination but by a mob
@@Sovereign_Senpai thats actually the craziest grief. i was doing it myself to test the corrpution system and griefed many players this way, to give feedback on it. and dw. i apologized, gave back the loot and helped them leveling after i did so. i didnt mean to actually grief but wanted to see how far you can get without getting punished, and there are many ways to do so... if i had money, i even bought them better gear at the vendor.
Asses of Flatulation. You also fail to realize people who clamour for open world pvp, have never cared about the health of any game. what they did to asmon is literally the beating heart of open world pvp players. They want it so they can gank people mercilessly. I can imagine this safe tech is going to be ridiculed to death once its implemented and the games population will take a sharp drop with people crying about "caving to the carebears" as is that happens when the gankers get their prey taken from them.
Got no doubt about that. Open pvp have plagued alot of big mmo's over the years recently. Whats worse is some of them also may have unique interesting gameplay mechanics, or these action rpg combo skills systems, like in black desert that are actually fun to play
in my experience of 20 something years in mmos, mmo pvpers are by far the most toxic, you can even see on the discord how they whine and whine and whine about how it penalizes them for ganking new players. like dudes need a hug from their father or something. go do pvp events, not sit by the starter area and kill people who are reading the bindings lists xD
I like the way New World handled PVP. You had to flag for open-world PVP from a safe zone like a town, then there was a timer once you left the safe zone before you were actually targetable by other players.
I was cool with that system. The problem is: Steven WANTS open world pvp to drive conflict. In New World, 90% of the players did not flag for pvp. Pvp should be relegated to duels, events, and some structure.
New World's PvP was dogshit. Functionally no reason to use it. Why would I open myself up for being attacked on repeat by others who know there's nothing to lose by attacking me, when the only reward for me being flagged is that it levels me up a bit faster? Any time gained will probably be lost once someone inevitably kills me. There's no reason to flag for PvP for what's basically a PvE reason, and not even a good reason at that. This game's entire existence is based around factions contesting limited resources. Which is what New World was originally meant to be about until people whined and the game came out in a rushed, awful state from both ends.
@ The game well succeed regardless of a few player’s attacking a streamer in an alpha test. They’re already working on implementing system’s to prevent similar thing’s from happening. Which they’re saying might be in the game early as next week. System they already had which they were planning on implementing on phase 2. Looser’s judging a game that hasn’t even finished and is in open development is what well hurt ash’s. I’m sure it well thrive after it is all fleshed out and done regardless what a few disbeliever’s may think.
@@Snack_Foods What system? And how is that going to fix it? I'll wait for you to never reply or reply with something that can easily be disproven. (Here's a hint, a level 60 will have no problem killing a level 6, all youre doing is kicking the can down the road).
@@nonamenoname9079 I heard it was an open full loot pvp. Apparently people were walking arround with nothing but wooden swords, to avoid loosing their stuff
They are upset that Thors streamer guild already puts people on KOS and griefs them and forces them to pay gold and extorts them but when a streamer gets griefed they get banned but thors whole guild goes free.
@getwoke it depends if kill on sight means camp them and harass them. Kill on sight is going to happen everywhere in open pvp. If they follow them and camp them then those players will probably get warned or banned. I have to add though that guild did stream snipe which makes me have no pity for them. I agree though, there will hopefully be more fleshed out griefing rules through these kinds of interactions in the alpha.
It just shows you need pvp safe zones and or new player protection. Anyone who has ever touched an MMO could tell you this. BUT BANS FOR IT ARE WRONG if you let people do it, then they do it. it is the DESIGNERS fault for not having fixed this. Don't blame your community of hardcore pvpers for being pvpers, YOU TOLD THEM TO PLAY YOUR GAME.
please link 1 of these 9.99 UE5 assets, that are not actually in house developed models please. Also for an Alpha it defecates on some full release games
The response is justified and valid. I have no idea why masses of morons always think its their right to deny other people their rights to even start playing the game, much less enjoying its fleshed-out systems or content. "Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren’t looking for anything logical, like money. They can’t be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. i wish steven could have cast a curse on all who killed asmond like if you kill a new player in a malicious way and incure the wrath of a god you could be cursed to only deal damage to yourself if try to attack non red combatants
I don't know why, but for what ever reason the so-called "hardcore" PvP'ers always end up shitting in their own sandbox to the point the systems are removed or replaced in favor of PvE systems or the game just dies.
I love world pvp, and consider myself a hardcore pvper. But I generally only mess with a-holes, and if I can tell someone is really inexperienced and it's not even fair, I'll generally stop and leave them alone.
@@GodOfWar2321 True. Way too many people taking their inadequacies in real life out on people in games. I just love a good pvp fight, and the hunter/hunted aspect when out in the open world.
I remember watching an Asmon video a year or two ago where he expressed excitement when he realised that in Ashes his STREAMER status would in essence allow him to basically be a 'KING', and give him a flying mount and other privileges not afforded to 'regular' players. Kinda hilarious that it's backfired on him and far from flying around the server, he's been beaten down by the plebs. Live by the sword die by the sword bro. Thanks for sharing, this video gave me a giant chub! Big
The funny fact is that the bald one logging in really put a stress test on the server at his location, even with all of the players, melee/spell animations, the server held up really well. Steven should have spawned a dragon on him, just to really put a load on the grief session.
are u fucking dumb? ok so when hackers hack right they need PROOF to ban them if they blindly ban the, cuz someone said they are that person can now sue the company. U NEED PROOF TO BE BANNED this is not a bannable offense
I will continue to hammer the fact that it was special treatment, Enveus griefed the fuck out of players in pre a2. There were tons of complaints and nothing was done. Stack this with the Thor situation and its kinda starting to seem like this is a streamer sandbox more than anything else. Thor aims to grief a guild into quitting, over a random pk. totally ok. Asmongold gets griefed, ban those players. Idk man id like to see some clearly stated rules and even enforcement. Crazy, i know
The system is working as intended. Safeguards and safe zones, while necessary, will not solve the issue. It'll just happen on a different time table. Open world PvP games tend to resolve themselves out in this way. You're either in the gank squad or you're getting griefed. On a long enough time frame it comes down to being very few established groups of people and literally no one else. Then it gets stale, boring and dies. It's why I have a lot of skepticism for Ashes but I'm not going to knock anyone for trying to make a game like it or playing/enjoying one
Even UO back in the day had a "Young" player status that protected new players for 40 hours of game time or until they reached a certain skill level. A system like this should have been implemented a while ago especially when you are opening up the game to a wider audience for testing and feedback because we all know some players are trolls and enjoy toxicity/greifing.
I totally agree something like that would be good to have. Not having it yet is still fine though. I haven't experienced or seen anyone else experience excessive pvp yet though. Everyone has been super chill on my server so far. Does pvp happen occasionally? Yeah... But practically never. And half the time it's a bug. Most of the Alpha lads are just stoked to be in game.
I love the safe zone mechanics from ultima online. As soon as you try to attack another player within city grounds the guards will just pop in and one hit you to death leaving your body grey so anyone can loot your body. People learn REAL fast.
I can both want the game to succeed and also want the game to have freedom of choice including attacking somebody in town. Having a developer tell me "you shall play this way" is bad design. In fact, its not design. Its just strongarming. There are other ways outside of guards to discourage certain player behavior. Reputation hits that take lots of time to repair is a big one.
I'm really entertained to see Steven's response here. Because we asked to either 1. have the starting area be a pvp-free zone, or 2. have low level players be immune to pvp. We asked this well over a year ago. And for the past TWO weekends we've had massive problems of guilds killing people in Lionhold. This was brought to the devs but they had no intentions of changing that for alpha 1, and you can pk fresh characters without even a warning. Sucks, but we lived with it. Some guilds formed to fight the pk guilds and protect new players, especially when the new people came in this weekend. A pretty interesting dynamic. So it's really interesting to see Steven suddenly say this is not intended, when devs have been silent on it for two weeks, even as hundreds of testers ragequit the alpha.
i was killed within 3 minutes of loading in. lol. i simply typed "oh wow this is cool" in the chat and was immediatly killed xD. not going to lie, made me question the 120$ or w.e.
GRIM GRIEFERS will not only kill you but extort you for gold and gear to pass through certain areas! And monthly protection services if you wish, subscriptions for not getting ganked, passing over certain bridges etc etc.
I haven't watched the video yet but here is what they should do as a temporary fix to this issue. Make a pvp free server (in alpha 2) where pvp is optional, meaning it can be toggled on and off. I'm not suggesting this for the entire alpha (hence a single server) let alone the final game, but it would fix the problem that streamers may run into. Then they can explore the pvp in a reasonable manner without getting absolutely anihilated. It's a huge loss for the future of Ashes not having Asmongold stream Alpha 2.
PTR Update Notes - Wednesday, November 13 To help new characters, we’ve added an opt-in to PvP safety option. This is available to non-combatants that are level 5 or lower, in the starting areas
Some people are so pathetic they live to grief, and they expect games to accommodate them. These are the Eve players. The people who host their own private servers. The people who play classic MMOs on PVP servers.
You couldn't have spelled out The First Commandment of gaming any better: "If the game allows it, then the people will do it." I fully agree that they are totally within their rights to bring the ban hammer, and honestly they kinda should have seen this coming. If you haven't grief-proofed your game, then you have designed a game for griefing. This needs to be a priority system if they don't want this to happen. And honestly, it spells out why so many people don't want anything to do with open world pvp games in the first place. Over in New World, you have the option of flagging or not, and those who want to do, but the vast majority don't. And the games brand new open world pvp free for all zone is basically dead one month after launch. Because people don't really want to be in there. They sneak in, get their one weekly item they need to farm, and sneak tf out till next week. It's just a simple fact that most people just wanna play their games without interference from other assholes.
So PirateSoftware can have control over 40 guilds and can put someone on a kill on sight list so he can have thousands of players griefing you. He even says in his stream he will have his guilds patrol the oceans so no one on the server can pass without paying his guild a fee. If you are on the receiving end, that will probably feel like griefing.
You can type whatever bs you want and throw in some baby rage on top. “He even said in his streams” wawawa shut up. Go watch the clip of him saying he doesn’t want full map control. Stop making shit up, 40 guilds…….. I’m not on his server or in his guild, so I need you to know you have to be braindead or you failed in pre school math to think he has that many guilds lmao
Ah, but there's a difference between those two. Player politics, economic benefits, zone control, etc. Those are the reasons behind what Pirate is doing, and those are all part of a flourishing PvX world, as normal. What is not normal, however, is killing a level 1 player that has literally just logged in for the first time, provided that you get zero benefit in doing so other than ruining the game experience for that individual. One is a part of the ecosystem, the other is griefing.
@@MrJukeboxking "What is not normal, however, is killing a level 1 player that has literally just logged in for the first time" But you want that player gone though. You yourself have said that. If you want to keep control of the area and its economy, you don't want anyone else to be able to compete. A level 1 who has the ability to level up will be able to compete at one point, so how do you deal with that problem? You spawn camp them. The system incentivizes griefing.
It's fucking hilarious. But seriously this is the problem with open pvp right from the start. Now, Steven and his team should think about something that could prevent griefers.
Sadly, this is one of the main problems with MMORPGs now a days. Many eons ago, late 90s/early 2000s we did not have to deal with these streamers/influencer type figures, which brings a bunch of sheep (I mean people) with them. I am surprised that this seems to have caught Intrepid by surprise even though this was obviously going to happen. If Asmon or anyone else want to test the game honestly or at least in a more natural fashion, they do not use their own name or stream while they are doing so. Another issue that this game will have is related to people with a following (in this case I Narc himself could be included) that go into the game with let's say 50+ followers to make a Guild or multiple Guilds. In my opinion, this is a huge change in how we play these games since these friendships or camaraderie are no longer happening organically in game how they used to before. Now we have to deal with cult like behaviors that might allow someone like Asmon to be the king of one server and the masses giving him whatever he wants for a few seconds of his attention. In the past, it has been suggested to have servers for this kind of people and the people who want to play with them to keep this degeneracy contained, but I doubt it. For those, like myself, who do not like this, is worth to wait until the streamers/influencers pick their server and go to a different server. This will be even more important on a PvX game or any kind of game with PVP. Hoping for the best. P.S. Hate the fact that there are flying mounts, even if it is only for the mayors at this point.
I feel your pain about friendships not happening organically in MMOs anymore, but I don't think the streamers are the sole reason for it. There are myriad of reasons that's happening though I cba to write an entire paragraph about it. Old times and MMOs won't be back though sadly.
@@____bm____ Yeah, quite sad. At least I have the great memories, the times when people actual cared about their character name instead of choosing something like bootylicker69XYZ among many other things. Still, hoping for the best, maybe we will be playing this game in 3-5 years.
It's like everyone has gotten a major case of memory loss and forgotten about how MMORPGs used to be. Gank fest and small communities. Then games came along that got rid of non-consensual PvP and the MMORPG genera went and grew to over 14 million players.
This is steven finding out why he quit archeage all over again when all his guild alliances still couldnt get him morpheus from the pirates in archeage.
Kinda saw this coming tbh The area around the newbie area (aka the area without node boarders) need to be safe zone from open world flagging (Not safe for wars or caravans of course though just random open world flagging on greens) As for node im fine with more guards but i think they should add a building like a church where if your in the church your 100% safe so you have a spot to quickly afk if needed but doesnt bother me either way which way they go within the node however guards need to attack people even if there part of a guild/node war if somone attacks somone in there sight and hostility concentualy or not should be attempted to be stopped by guards.
I think WoW had the sweetspot for it, but it was also a faction based game... you had enemies and you had allies by default. You had well protected hubs just for your specific allegiance. In a game where theres no factions at the start.... how do you balance it
Honestly, I think the guard system can work in some places, and other places could use full-on protection. I also think the night/day cycle pvp thing, such as in ToL, is great but it should be in openworld and not just in "open world dungeons". Open world PVP is such a great and miserable thing. It will be hard to balance and make it work but if someone can do it its our lord and savior Big Daddy Steven. Im eagerly waiting to play this games beta when I retire in 2060
People scared of ANY inconvenience in a video game is how we reached this modern MMO cesspit. Relax people, the game will have more PVP protections and intricacies than you could ever think of, they're just not implement for this (actually real) pre alpha test phase.
I love that he gained a little bit of weight and got himself those glasses. I hope the plan is to grow a huge mustache and start his villain arc as Dr. Eggman.
Getting hunted as a popular streamer is the price you pay. The solution is pvp immunity to level 5. This should be obvious, and I'm sure the change is coming.
one of the things thats bothered me was that loot doesnt flag people for stealing it. Glint litterally says stolen right on it but there isnt a flag for it.
This was very useful to me. I hadn't realized that AoC was going to have PvP always enabled outside any safe zones, that it wasn't something I could sometimes disable. This game won't be for me.
Hopefully they will have PvE servers. I dont understand why Steven's dick was so hard for open PvP, but he's old enough to have seen all of the dead MMOs that let PvP kill them.
This is exactly only reason I want to play old school like MMO such as AoC. There is a reason why Lineage 2 (20 year old game) is still played to this days. Gen Z will be shocked at first, but maybe they will adapt.
That interview was a good call. If anything, this was a very easy way to learn some lessons. Safe zone tech should be higher priority. Thank you for this video!
right they all havent got off the game probably already deprived the game for the little content it has and they are ruining the experience for someone who actually wants to enjoy the game sad af
Anyone with 2 brain cells can see that harassing people is not appropriate. This has nothing to do with un consensual pvp, just dont be a bad person. I do think there has to be some kind of safe zones that dont allow pvp.
@@cmike123 ya ofc and when it ruins the experience of a player for an extended amount of time. Those people get banned. Idk why you think I dont think they exist. That has nothing to do with what I'm saying, there's nothing wrong with griefing a little bit, but when it's taking place over hours...that's a problem.
@@JGburneraccount it ALWAYS takes place over hours. When someone wins in pvp, they get the endorphin hit, and they keep fighting because they tend to keep winning. When someone loses, they might try to get revenge, but they most likely lost for a reason. So, they just leave. If they can teleport to another part of the map, they may try that. If not, they log out. It ALWAYS happens. Bans have little effect. Either it is a finite ban: in which they just keep doing their thing when the ban is over, or it is a perma-ban: in which you not only lose the person that was being griefed, but you lose the griefer too. How many games does this have to happen in before yall are satisfied?
@@Ecksplisit You say this, but if griefers are supposed to be banned, why have corruption and bounty systems?? If Steven wants to burn down his game, then that's his prerogative. However, some of us wanted a good game to come out of this.
Of course it's a pipe dream but it would be nice to be able to play a game where you didn't need a safe zone and everything mutually agreed to not fight eachother giving everyone true freedom in the game
I think unless there is big changes Ashes will be a niche game. A lot of people following it have never played Archeage or Ultima etc. I think systems need to be better designed than devs watching a starting zone.
I'm telling you, open world pvp will prevent this game from reaching its full potential. It will 100% ALWAYS bring griefing. There needs to be dedicated pvp zones where it's always on, or even have set times where the entire world erupts into chaos where pvp is turned on
The game will fail if it has forced PvP. They got 3 choices. 1. Make it optional. 2. Nerf it until it almost doesn’t exist (which defeats the purpose of its existence). 3. Let your game die because history shows 95% percent of players don’t like to be forced into PvP which leads to quitting.
This game is designed around PvP it is not based around PvE it has always been stated to be a niche game they are not looking to make another WoW game for people like you.
I disagree, the corruption system is a huge nerf already.. it'll just be more impactful when the game isn't an alpha where server wiping is commonplace. 1. Make starting zones pvp suppressed. 2. Penalize, but allow pvp in other areas. 3. Have designated 'lawless' zones for hardcore pvp players to hang around. (Perhaps with good farm spots for higher level materials, to incentivise gatherers to take risks for big rewards)
@ it won’t work. You will end up with a couple of hundred people playing the game. It’s been seen time and again that always on PvP is not what gamers want. Even lost world had to change it before it came out because no one was going to play it.
Love your wit and humour Narc, I'm starting to watch your content more regulkarly. Take care of yourself and keep being you mate. Rest when you need to as well - five videos a week is pretty intense!
The systems allowed it ready or not, it was allowed and exposes how badly it will be utilized. Oh wait, doesnt matter, this is star citizen for medieval folk
This is going to follow the game forever, you cannot have niche systems (non consensual PvP and loot dropping) and expect your game to go mainstream, Assmong's take on this is absolutely correct, Stephen and Intrepid can rigidly stick to their vision and AoC will come and go and be remembered as the MMO that almost beat WoW but stubbornness over a very unpopular system was it's eventual downfall...
Totally agree with the argument that if the game allows for that grieffing SO THE GAME'S PVP IS LIKE THAT. It actually concernes me that the game is not playable by famous streamers
Many of his viewers do not understand that there will be a new player experience and guards in towns. Top tier low IQ takes. Not to mention, Asmon absolutely hates PvP in any MMO. He talks down on it all the time.

Hello Narc good day man. I have a good idea. Maybe you can pass this to Steven. 🙏
I have a suggestion with items in cash shop.

I'm out.
This is actually a good test.
Better to have this happen during an alpha and see how the mechanics work and abused now, rather than later.
Exactly, and honestly it couldn't have happen to a better person. lol
Just like the DDOS
Griefing exists and you need safe starting zones to prevent it. Wow, what a revelation. I guess it required a top streamer to uncover this arcane truth.
Absolutely. The more shit that blows up now, the better.

I think so as well. Just from seeing this I will stay far away from this game. Forced PvP is never a good thing in any MMO.
@@donut_42dude it‘s an alpha chill. good we had this test and experience now. that‘s what alphas are for
Nah, the devs cost themselves millions. The players didn't write the code. Pretty low IQ if you think people won't grief popular streamers.
@bohne8746 There's no chill for the majority, that is the downside of an Open alpha. You get one chance and that's it.
I'm 160 hours into alpha 2 and have only been attacked in pvp once
Someone on the outside looking in, I don't think people understand the implications of a freely open-ended PvP system. There's a reason why PvP/PK games have restrictions, safe zones, grace periods, shields, bounty systems, karma systems, faction zones and tutorial protections. It doesn't all the sudden become griefing because its happening to a popular streamer. It's a system that has always had "griefing potential" as a core intended mechanic due to the design. If players can turn Classic WoW into a full blown scorched earth landscape in phase 2, the people in Ashes have no clue what will happen in the future rofl.
I think that phase 2 situation was exacerbated by the introduction of honor system and world bosses at the same time.
Copium, mental gymnastics, hypocrisy, irony, there needs to be a new term that encompasses all of the aforementioned terms into one.
getting banned for playing the game?
If ruining new player's experience is playing the game, that's a nice way to welcome them. Surely playerbase will grow strong in months to come.
Devs banning them surely let's you know it wasn't intended to be that way. They are exploiting systems or a lack of it that are not yet implemented in alpha.
@@Reketok1 continuing to do something after asked to stop, and even whats already in the ToS, is bannable. oh well. guess should of read the rules.
This type of testing is important. Because this will eventually happen!
Never put the burden on the player. This is the fault of the devs. People will always abuse and exploit any system to the maximum, and they will never stop. Where there is potential for grief, there will be those who wish to act upon it.
@stillnotchill2560 I agree that the devs need to fix it or have thought it through BUT we can expect more from our community, don't tolerate dip shits
@@stillnotchill2560 Well, I'm happy that this critical fault of the devs has been fixed by banning these retards. And I hope bans for griefing lowbies continue even for normal players. Too bad it's impossible for the devs to moderate it to that extent until the safety zones are implemented.

White Knighting hard my good fine sir 🫡 😂
ive played archeage from beta up to today, safe zones in every region allow toxic players to play around the safe zone borders, they will gate keep the area and either force you to stay in the safe zone until you log out, or if you try to fight back, pop in the safe zone to avoid your retaliation. if the corruption system works as intended, there should be no reason for mindless ganking in nodes. it should be fine unless someone is seriously trying to just go red. if someone is just trying to fight everyone for no reason, they wont last long, as the dedicated community would handle the issue anyway i feel. unless the issue is the massive zerg guilds that will inevitably gate keep regions to keep it to themselves, killing anyone who is in the node and not apart of their zerg
There are many solutions and each of them come with their own up/downside.
All mmo's with open world pvp (ex. ESO, new world, WoW, FO76) have some sort of system in place to prevent degrnerate gameplay behaviours from being able to work easily.

We will not know how it will be at this moment. We can speculate but this is only divination.
Its harassment, if they can do this to Asmond, whats to stop them from doing it other players. They just showed their skin.
We MUST make players experience a bad one. Remember if they are not crying then you are not griefing hard enough!
Asmon gets ALWAYS harassed in any online game he plays. It's precisely that they're only doing it to Asmon and not the average player because they won't get proper attention nor rewards from doing so
In normal games there are systems that punish people that Flag for PVP in very low level zones ;)
@@AlexOltyan if you watched the video for 2 seconds you'd see that steven literally said that those systems are not in place yet because we're still in early alpha 2.

Asmon didn't change the trajectory. It was always the trajectory of this kind of game.
The drama this game will create if Steven is going to put his thumb on the scale will be glorious.
All that would happen is they would go red and drop their gear and lose xp over and over
The way to tackle this is to limit PVP to a certain level.
Or just don't allow pvp INSIDE starter cities lol unless you're corrupted and try to go in those cities then you should be able to kill people and get killed (by guards and people)
@@ItZMaxo that's the plan, Steven said the pvp limiter zones just aren't working right now.

Is your suggestion that a level 60 won't be able to grief a level 7? Or are you just kicking the can down the road?
Agreed on all counts
And if you think about your idea for more than 2 seconds, gank squads will simply wait outside of the safe zone and grief safely outside of the guards' range.

The majority of people that play always on PVP games are there for the sole purpose of ruining other people's time. We shouldn't really be surprised
Zenial
exactly, their entire reason for existing is to make other players playtime miserable.
Not true, give pvp players good fights and they will usually focus on those. We turn into murder hobos when we don't have it. And sadly, most MMOs don't scratch that itch.
I love how they call him "The Bald One"
Personally I dislike open world PvP but even I know there's better solutions than giving Pker's 30 debuffs and making them lose gear when killed, for example:
- Protected areas like starting zones and cities.
- PKer gets flagged to be a free-for-all PvP target (Bounty), the bigger the bounty the farther away they are seen in the map)
- When a flagged PKer dies he gets a cooldown that prevents him from entering PvP for a while or simply is respawned in a far away zone (maybe a Pker/Rogue/Bandit town), in order to prevent that person from simply coming to the same area again and kill the same target, in other words prevent griefing.
-etc
all the things you said was base on kills but people are smarter they don't kill, they lower a player Hp to 5% left and let the mobs kill them.
The grief don't get corrupted and he can steel all there loot. the corrupted system just dose not work.
they should make players corrupt if they steal other player loot.
there is no work around for the pvp that fix's the problem there always going to be a 5head that finds a way
I agree, but not with safe zones being in cities, just have the local guard NPCs be hostile to the attacker like they planned.
@@Sovereign_Senpai yeah I only gave 3 examples while there are many solutions, for that particular one they would need to make a way for the server to know how much a person was damaged by another player and how recently in order to attribute the kill to the PKer, its basically an assist/elimination but by a mob

It wouldn't work here. They need an Albion style system imo. The game is built around PvP.

“A game that will never release” I see what you did there buddy xD
Changing the narrative huh…
Reputation hits that take lots of time to repair is a big one.
the whole game is just Steven power trip fantasy for him to play god. zero chance this ever becomes a real game, its scam for $120 alpha access.
So it's really interesting to see Steven suddenly say this is not intended, when devs have been silent on it for two weeks, even as hundreds of testers ragequit the alpha.
i was killed within 3 minutes of loading in. lol. i simply typed "oh wow this is cool" in the chat and was immediatly killed xD. not going to lie, made me question the 120$ or w.e.
this is why pvp is a bad idea in mmos
GRIM GRIEFERS will not only kill you but extort you for gold and gear to pass through certain areas! And monthly protection services if you wish, subscriptions for not getting ganked, passing over certain bridges etc etc.
Need a maritime alliance? I plan on leading a fleet.

Sounds like so much fun /s
Tis a game for people without a job lol
Seeing a creator go this far in addressing problems is really nice to see. I get the vibe that steven actually wants to make a good game.
PTR Update Notes - Wednesday, November 13
To help new characters, we’ve added an opt-in to PvP safety option. This is available to non-combatants that are level 5 or lower, in the starting areas
Some people are so pathetic they live to grief, and they expect games to accommodate them. These are the Eve players. The people who host their own private servers. The people who play classic MMOs on PVP servers.
You couldn't have spelled out The First Commandment of gaming any better: "If the game allows it, then the people will do it."
I fully agree that they are totally within their rights to bring the ban hammer, and honestly they kinda should have seen this coming.
Simple solution...no guild rolls on that server and voila end of story
@@brimstonevalar6053 I can already imagine that.
The system incentivizes griefing.
game is officially cooked
Griefing happened in 2006. You're coping.
This is steven finding out why he quit archeage all over again when all his guild alliances still couldnt get him morpheus from the pirates in archeage.
Kinda saw this coming tbh
The area around the newbie area (aka the area without node boarders) need to be safe zone from open world flagging (Not safe for wars or caravans of course though just random open world flagging on greens)
As for node im fine with more guards but i think they should add a building like a church where if your in the church your 100% safe so you have a spot to quickly afk if needed but doesnt bother me either way which way they go within the node however guards need to attack people even if there part of a guild/node war if somone attacks somone in there sight and hostility concentualy or not should be attempted to be stopped by guards.
This is why in MMOs I played I PK people doing exactly this, we bully the bullies and protect the small ones
I'd be fine with open world pvp being linked with duels, nodes war and guild conflicts. Outside of that is easily abused.

I love that he gained a little bit of weight and got himself those glasses. I hope the plan is to grow a huge mustache and start his villain arc as Dr. Eggman.
Getting hunted as a popular streamer is the price you pay.
The solution is pvp immunity to level 5. This should be obvious, and I'm sure the change is coming.

one of the things thats bothered me was that loot doesnt flag people for stealing it. Glint litterally says stolen right on it but there isnt a flag for it.
Nah man, low level players should be able to pvp if they want. But starter zones should obviously be pvp suppressed.
Then Asmon at level 10 gets perma-ganked and can't play the game (at least on stream) anymore.
all open world pvp games have the same lifecycle. devouring itself from within.
This was very useful to me. I hadn't realized that AoC was going to have PvP always enabled outside any safe zones, that it wasn't something I could sometimes disable. This game won't be for me.

@@cmike123 For sure. And they'll be banned. As they should.
@@JGburneraccount it ALWAYS takes place over hours. When someone wins in pvp, they get the endorphin hit, and they keep fighting because they tend to keep winning.

@ I don’t play wow or final fantasy.
