Yeah peon, you avoid the quests at this point. They have improved some, but thats just not what the focus is on that, P2 seems like a lot of the story arc stuff.
For an Alpha? It’s pretty good. I just hope the final product delivers. I’ve had to shift my view away from comparing it to the MMO titans - because those games have been around for over a decade, obviously their systems are going to be more refined and there will be a content gap since games like WoW, FFXIV and GW2 have had years on years to develop their ideas. It’s the potential I’ll be paying most attention to playing this Alpha and so far; it’s there. I’m honestly most surprised with the combat, I thought it would be total garbage, but it’s actually pretty good already. Playing this Alpha has just made me even more hopeful for the final product. It has something so many games lack - a vision. Steven(Stephen?)clearly knows exactly what he wants it to be and I just hope he has the funds and talent to bring it to full. It’s very obvious that this is supposed to be in the vein of WoW classic where it is COMPLETELY centered around social gameplay and solo players are going to have a real, real hard time. I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing as imo the social aspect of MMOs is what made them so addicting to begin with, they were kinda social media before social media. I’ve been having a great time so far!
I've been waiting for this video because I feel a lot of content creators didn't give the Alpha 2 a fair shake by judging it as a released game and writing it off for its necessary time in development. This was a good video, really showing where it stands now and how it can be built into the future. There is certainly a lot of work to do, but the fundamental pillars of the game seem like they have a strong foundation. Thanks for the video sir!
Winter night can be absolutely beautiful if they design it right. Imagine a clear full moon sky, some snow falling, lanters spawning near settlement, maybe even some of the city population can switch to doing winter activities like meal prepping pickled jars outside or shoving snow etc. Snow fall near the lanterns could look super cozy.
@TheLazyPeon @16:00 The way D4 handles circle quests is really awesome. As you complete objectives that are a part of the circle, the circle gets smaller and smaller. It really makes these kinds of quests where they want you to read the dialogue much easier and faster to complete. Just pan the edges and spiral and as you complete talking to NPC's, the area gets smaller helping you find the NPC's or objective.
I just want to leave a comment thanking you for making your original video on Ashes. It really kickstarted my obsession with this game. I CANNOT wait for the game to release, thank you so much for everything youve done to make content about this game.
Reminds me of Everquest. Which was called Neverquest because they weren't worth it and everyone would just group up and grind mobs. Was way more fun then quest grinding anyways since you could socialize with the playerbase inbetween pulls.
@@johnmaco The problem is, games like that wont succeed in modern day. People want to solo. If your MMO aint solo friendly, its going to fail. Plain and simple. It seems Ashes is going to be directed at a tiny niche playerbase that enjoys games from 2006.

I know how important combat and other essential features but if you don't have a good questing system or feel the importance of the story or lore, something to connect to. It's really going to turn a lot of people off.
I just hope they dont do the classic MMO trope whit all the quest like wow did in cata and later expansions (and any other MMO in the last 15+ years) where the player starts the game is told that the player is foretold by the prophesy and then the player walks 10 feet talks to the first npc and is more or less greeted by Hero of X.... Like wow until wrath NPC at best NPC refered to you as adventurers or soldiers. and after you did the whole zone quest chain you was told thank you adventurer I will remember you... now you probebly want to head along there is more work for aliance/horde that need to be done and you done all you can do for us here.
Gonna be honest, I teared up playing AoC because it brought back my friends from childhood to one single MMO like the good old times. It feels fresh. It feels new, yet it has a soul of old MMOs.
For 10 years of development with 170 people, this looks bad. But yeah, let me know when this game comes out in 2059, maybe it will be done with the first patch by then.

NGL GW2 has imo the best combat system of any mmo and hearing at the start ashes being positively compared to gw2 combat makes me even more excited for it when it is released.
@@Nicky0412 yeah bro cuz turning off half the settings in the game to make it look like unity engine to b able to compete competitively in a MMO is deff miles away lol.

*The combat feels better than it looks* - this is basically WoW's standard. Which means it already passes. BTW, it's not about the walls/castle being pristine. THEY'RE NOT COVERED IN SNOW. IN A SNOWY AREA, FFS. That's what you actually meant.
Perfect feedback for this early Alpha 2 stage! One thing I've been really surprised about is how good the combat feels. Especially with emergent gameplay PvP growing out of Guilds testing the combat and grinding mobs in certain areas. Someone steals from a guild corpse? Flag up, answer it with PvP. KoS lists, alliances and enemy guilds are already forming and it's only Alpha 2! When Node wars, Guild Wars, sieges and castle sieges kick off the politics and gameplay from it is going to be amazingly good fun! This has been some of the most fun I'd had with random PvP kicking off in the world.
As someone that’s been playing for the last month, the game is NOT a game right now. It’s buggy, it’s scuffed, and it doesn’t give proper instructions AT ALL. Worried that a lot of new players would not power through all that in its current state. With that being said…. The Alpha is SO much fun. Knowing that the devs aren’t really focused on those aspects for this Phase, but that it’s something that they will implement in coming phases, I’ve focused mostly on the combat, node, and social systems and man…. I’m so addicted already. Really great foundations for what they’re currently focused on and I am now confident in the speed of their updates since the Alpha started as long as they continue to keep it up. The game has a ton of potential to be a top MMO, not gonna be for everyone and will need a LOT of work still to be anywhere near a final product, but don’t give up hope quite yet, Intrepid is cooking. Just hope we get to eat before 2077. 😂
The problem this game has is two fold. If they wait till its actually finished, in 10 years, no one is going to care anymore. If they rush it out, itll be dead in a month. They simply took too long to make the game.
Really hope Ashes of Creation takes some inspiration from Guild Wars 2... With how natural it is to cooperate with other players in the world for an event or a world boss or something like that without needing to even communicate is truly one of the great parts about that game.
Not needing to communicate means that it is too easy, too safe and lacks consequences. We don't want AoC to be another generic MMO where you just show up and zerg a world boss for your daily loot. There are a dozen MMOs where you can get that experience and zero that have a dangerous and challenging open world anymore.
@@CharlesNelson303 Yeah there is definitely a delicate balance that needs to be found for that, and I can't imagine that will be easy at all. Support for solo play is very important, but how do you help solo players into different sorts of group play without making it feel forced, or making the game easier (or more boring) as a consequence.
@@DanicaGloxi While Sharif has said they are keeping solo players in mind, it's a PvX game and one of the primary tenets is Risk vs. Reward. Organized groups will likely be at a significant advantage both in successful achievements as well as mitigating the loss from failure. The conflict system is the most prominent feature and balance is around group PvP rather than 1v1. I wouldn't hope for or expect a ton of support for solo play outside of some minor loops and some group finding tools. All of this is summarized in the wiki.
I prefer when starting off to just be able to go out in the world and start fighting enemies and exploring, rather than worry about quests. Quests should come later.

Great video! I lost a little bit interest in your recent videos as I felt you did some of them without putting any heart into it. But I loved this one, I can feel your genuine interest and your feedbacks were on point every time ! Thanks for this content !
one reason why i prefer action combat over tab targeting is the ability to dodge an attack. so far every tab targeting mmo that i played had the problem that when an enemy started its attack i could dodge or move out of range and still get hit. is that also the case in ashes of creation? in some class showcases i witness this issue too, but maybe they improved the combat since then. thats a complete deal breaker for me, because i want to be able to kill an enemy even if it takes hours... which doesnt work if some attacks will always hit me. i still remember playing my first mmo with good combat ( blade and soul). i encounterd my first boss which was meant for atleast 5 people, but i was able to beat it on my own simply by dodging, blocking and using my cc skills. awesome feeling. all my skills mattered and i even had to keep up my dmg rotation and use animation cancel. beautiful design. unfortunately most people are not good enough for these type of games, so from a marketing standpoint its not good to implement such a combat system. but still...i wish some companies would risk it. maybe archage 2 feels similar or even better.
Tab target is so outdated. The game is trying to steal the wow community and final fantasy players. The issue is those players aren't leaving. They are stuck forever. T
@@DblTapSlapMcGap well depends are you designing a game where PVP combat is 10 vs 10 (where you need a good computer that can run the game at 60+ FPS) action combat 100% of the time. are you designing a game where you are going to have 100+ vs 100+ players combat and where you expect that a signigigent group of player are running on a potato PC from 10 years ago aka FPS in the 20-50 range at 10 vs 10 PVP. and 10-20 FPS in 100 vs 100 and they still want to have some fun in the game. Cool and informative video, I personally really enjoyed the fact, that you did the summary portion at the end of the video. I hope they fix the solo availability of the game, since that will be a make or break thing for me personally due to my job. I also hope, that devs will not forget about the casual guys like me in their development process, since it seems to be too cool of a game to be only viable for the hardcore chad MMORPG players. Anyhow superb coverage of the entry side of the game for people who haven't followed development super closely. I'm looking forward to your next ashes video!

2 years at this point I reckon, I played New World about 2 years before that fully released and it was in a worse state back then relative to what Ashes is in now, Once a game is in a somewhat playable state with regular testing and they've figured out gameplay/class design, development speed seems to pick up rapidly, It'll either be beta or very close to full release 2 years from now imo.
I think the commissions board should be reworked to be server wide rolling events, where large sums of kills of certain mobs are needed for a much fatter potential reward depending on player contribution.
THIS game Will have its full release in 3 years, But The development Will accellerate now, and people are about to understand that this will be the next big mmo, the last hope. We will have a lot of fun in this game til full release, beta, early acceas etc. people want the old school MMOs back
I think it'll accelerate too, making the first biome + nailing down combat and gameplay fundamentals always takes the longest in an MMO, once that's figured out it's just making content to fill the world with, devs will already have a blueprint of what content generally looks like too, 2-3 years for sure.
@@TheLazyPeon This is assuming other boimes aren't already made. There is so much content that is already made that isn't in the game yet. They don't want to test content and features rn, they want to test performance and stability. With the click of a button they could unlock so much other stuff theyve already finished, but there is no reason to and they'll drip feed it to us over years.
@Erumyr Last hope? What do you mean? Enough MMOs that are doing well these days. And we will have to see if it's the 'next big mmo'. An mmo doesnt just release and take over insantly. A few years after it releases we will see how big the game will really be instead of just a short hype.
People dont want old school MMOs lol. Classic WoW was successful because its WoW and is nostalgic. If this game plays like a 2010 MMO, it wont last two months. Please show me old school MMOs with giant playerbases. MMOs in general arent even big in 2024, compared to 10 years ago.
Have always loved your content mate, feel like this was a good and honest review. My biggest wows from ashes so far have been class design/feel/identity, the feeling of progression across levels and like the acquisition of how it feels, and then just combat itself is a blast.
in 2004 WoW set the bar very very high in terms on Movement in mmos and to this day after trying a large amount of mmos none of them had as good movement as wow and the close one was GW2, I don't know how a bunch of friends managed to do it back in 2004 but large studios can't do it in 2024 its mind blowing
I know what you mean. I actually liked GW2 over WoW, Tab targeting really needs to disappear. It's out dated. IMO, an MMO should feel like an action RPG in 2024 and beyond. I should feel like I'm playing Darksiders, God of War, Dark Souls, Witcher type of combat alongside other players.
6:35 it absolutely PAINS me that no one seems to click on the "Legend" drop down in order to make sense of the map icons. At this point, just embed it into the map itself.

They say you should buy in to test not play? What?! So lemme get this straight. They want me to pay for something that they should be paying me to do. I have 0 trust in an entity that would make such a ridiculous model.
what`s the problem with the cosmetics?? As long as the game is not pay2win, that`s probably the only way for them to make some money. Personally, i`d rather buy the game once, and play it whenever i want, than pay a subscription monthly like wow was.
I personally think the quests should be difficult, should force you to figure things out and NOT hand feed you exactly where to go or what to do, just like the old classic wow back on the day, we will never get that experience back, but this game might just do it
Oh, let's see. Are we now complaining about those giving feedback for an alpha? Please tell me you know the point of alpha testing. The fact that we have to even PAY to provide testing is ridiculous, and now you're ragging on feedback? What a 🤡
As an MMO newbie, The vibes this game gives in the new player experience are so nice, big open space, the sound effects, the horse side walking and backwards walking animation is clean and immersive.
Could you point whats the differences you had before comparing to now then? Game seems pretty good imo, i've been playing trash over trash MMO's the last years i can see the potential AoC has.

I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing as imo the social aspect of MMOs is what made them so addicting to begin with, they were kinda social media before social media. I’ve been having a great time so far!
AoC combat doesn't hold a candle to GW2 combat, even comparing them is a disservice

2077
@@Erumyrhow do you know it's 2027? Steven hasn't said anything about an official release date.
I prefer that way. For example old Lineage 2 was pretty much like that. You would only do like 5-8 quests at most during your entire time in the game
@@johnmaco The problem is, games like that wont succeed in modern day. People want to solo. If your MMO aint solo friendly, its going to fail. Plain and simple. It seems Ashes is going to be directed at a tiny niche playerbase that enjoys games from 2006.

The problems with Questing was exactly my concern from literally the very beginning.

For the questing, they should copy paste guild wars 2 system and problem solved. They are copying and improving many guild wars 2 mechanics anyway.
There will be random events that act like your usual GW 2 quest/group quests that aren't present in alpha.
@@MelFrightyes I've heard of that.
Hope it improves alot tbh.
You look good bro bro! Super healthy and happy looking! It's really cool to see c:
Really great video.
Ashes needs every piece of tough love it can get!
All of this is summarized in the wiki.

one reason why i prefer action combat over tab targeting is the ability to dodge an attack. so far every tab targeting mmo that i played had the problem that when an enemy started its attack i could dodge or move out of range and still get hit.
is that also the case in ashes of creation? in some class showcases i witness this issue too, but maybe they improved the combat since then.
thats a complete deal breaker for me, because i want to be able to kill an enemy even if it takes hours... which doesnt work if some attacks will always hit me.
i still remember playing my first mmo with good combat ( blade and soul). i encounterd my first boss which was meant for atleast 5 people, but i was able to beat it on my own simply by dodging, blocking and using my cc skills. awesome feeling. all my skills mattered and i even had to keep up my dmg rotation and use animation cancel. beautiful design.
unfortunately most people are not good enough for these type of games, so from a marketing standpoint its not good to implement such a combat system. but still...i wish some companies would risk it.
maybe archage 2 feels similar or even better.
I agree - New World has action combat that is 10x better... this game will require constant grouping just to survive...
Tab target is so outdated. The game is trying to steal the wow community and final fantasy players. The issue is those players aren't leaving. They are stuck forever. T
@@DblTapSlapMcGap well depends are you designing a game where PVP combat is 10 vs 10 (where you need a good computer that can run the game at 60+ FPS)

are you designing a game where you are going to have 100+ vs 100+ players combat and where you expect that a signigigent group of player are running on a potato PC from 10 years ago aka FPS in the 20-50 range at 10 vs 10 PVP. and 10-20 FPS in 100 vs 100 and they still want to have some fun in the game.

I hope they fix the solo availability of the game, since that will be a make or break thing for me personally due to my job.
They don't want to test content and features rn, they want to test performance and stability. ...before full dive vrmmo becomes reality
@Erumyr Last hope? What do you mean? Enough MMOs that are doing well these days. And we will have to see if it's the 'next big mmo'. An mmo doesnt just release and take over insantly. A few years after it releases we will see how big the game will really be instead of just a short hype.

Have always loved your content mate, feel like this was a good and honest review. My biggest wows from ashes so far have been class design/feel/identity, the feeling of progression across levels and like the acquisition of how it feels, and then just combat itself is a blast.
