GGG has earned my trust, their development has continued in such a good direction, agreed! Looking forward to the combat overall for PoE2 as well myself, nice choice
A lot of died hard POE players can find major gripes with GGG and some of the changes they implement, but they truly don't understand how good they have it that their main game has these guys, they are leagues beyond any of the current game devs producing games of a similar quality and we should all be grateful for it.

Hey Gavryn, I didn't know nothing about the story of GGG and thanks to you, I can know why Path of Exile is one of the best ARPG of all time. Thanks for the video!
I've been toying with the idea of whether or not to buy one of the more expensive core supporter packs for a week now, and even though I knew most of the things in the video, seeing them all together helped me realize that there's nothing to think about, GGG doesn't force me to buy anything and they've been delivering free AAA content for over a decade, I hope my contribution and (everyone else's) will allow them to do what they do for at least another ten years. Thanks
That's my feeling every league I play as well, the amount of hours of entertainment I've gotten out of the game is insane! I've been too busy IRL to play in a few leagues (I might join 3.25 late cause it looks amazing).
@@GavrynGaming They've made a real gem, Ive hardly done any end game but it is still enjoyable and im happy to support it. The stash tabs itself are around a price of a paid game 50-150 dollars depending on what you want to buy. It is genius.

this is such a cool video, I'm a Kiwi and started playing at Closed Beta. Your video bought back some good old memories and I'd totally forgotten about Chris shaving his hair for the kids charity. I've visited both studios as I did live in West Auckland and it was fun to see the original one in Titirangi. I had a wee break even though I had beta access as they worked on acts 4-10 as unfortunately my friends didn't have access too so we went off and played other games. Personally I have found it extremely hard to understand all the mechanics every time I try to pick it up again. So hopeful that POE2 maybe a fresh start. One of the things i used to love was the challenge to get every class to level 60/70 that would be a cool league challenge to do again and understand what each class can do. I'm so looking forward to POE 2 going live. Roll on Dec 7th (the day it will go live in NZ as we live in the future down under ;)
Super cool that you've actually seen the OG studio AND the new one :) I've played off and on since Breach league but I too don't fully grasp the plethora of mechanics and years I've missed out on. I'm also excited for PoE2 and considering it a whole new game and a "fresh start" as well for myself. Something I can really sink my teeth into and be in on the ground floor of the game in EA. Appreciate you checking out my video and sharing your PoE adventures, see you in PoE2 🍻
After seeing how well they've reworked the 4-5 league mechanics from PoE1 to PoE2 already and how much more modern and QoL they were I'm excited to see what they do with delve!
Great video -- thank you very much for the time and effort. As for what I am looking forward to the most in PoE... it'd have to be the "new" gem system which includes: 1. moving the sockets from gear to a separate UI 2. allowing all skill/trigger/meta gems to have 6 sockets 3. coupling some skills to weapon type 4. auto-weapon switching on skill use 5. strategically allocating support gems to only one skill each 6. cutting your gems and there's probably more that I'm leaving out -- but you can see how significant of a design change this is... and it's glorious.
What I am most excited for in POE 2 is both the smoother looking combat experience (including the WASD movement), and the new classes, I like the 6 classes that are in PoE 1, but them broadening the scope to allow for more specific play styles is exciting.
Agreed, the combat looks...MMO esque (if that's a thing in these games?) and so buttery smooth looking with the animation and rigging work etc they've done. WASD was the cherry on top for me, I've been an MMO gamer since I was 12 years old lol
@@GavrynGaming Eh, I haven't played many MMO's, I would say it looks like POE crossed with Dark souls, but I haven't played all that many ARPGs, just Grimdawn, Last Epoch, and POE, in have the D2 remake installed, but haven't gotten very far in it.
Him and Chris both brought a lot of design into the game and monetization etc from MTG yeah! Brian is a genius flat out, I wish I had gotten into Magic in the late 90s, but I was young and Pokemon sucked me in 😔
I'm not even a POE player but I love the way GGG does things. This doco is incredible and you deserve so many more subs; would love to see more deep dives into POE1/2 and GGG.
All great points. I would add that the skill tree is like MTG. where YOU get to choose. if you take D2/ wow etc you are limitied to only a few pathways. GGG allow you to nit pick, find strange results or create a bizzarre build . always new, always similar
POE is such a rewarding game when you start understanding its mechanics. The feeling of constant progression is what makes me come back to the game every time. The way they improved combat (I think so) and their will to be more "accessible" (in game tools, video tutorials...) make me feel really optimistic for POE2...(and the graphics improvements, and the way they build each class fantasy...and so on :p). Thanks for the video!
They seem to be drastically improving the new player experience in their sequel and making it more approachable for sure. I think Path of Building will still be the means for min maxing but it's an amazing tool and from what ZiggyD has said, the "feel" of the combat and character are equally as important as the spec this time around and the combat looks a bit slower and more thoughtful than just rightclicking (maybe not as much with full gear in the end game).
Thanks for the detailed video. Personally, i keep coming back because everytime i come back every league, i know that i won't play the same game. PoE 2 looks absolutely amazing. Everytime i see a new video about it, i'm blown away honestly. Free to play model is so good that people want to support them as long as their vision stands.
The amount of detail and polish they're putting into PoE2 is truly a thing of passion. This is the game they wanted to make all those years ago and now have the resources to do so and they aren't rushing it either! Thanks for watching
Wow, this was an unexpectedly emotional journey! Very good job on the video! I was there from the beginning and have immense respect for GGG. It's obvious through your video that you do too. Thank you!
Thanks a lot for watching, yeah I've always respected GGG immensely! It's rare to feel like the game I love is in good hands development wise anymore with other games (sadly) and GGG have never failed at renewing that trust even through the bad leagues. You can tell they actually play and are proud of their game and the retention/growth numbers don't lie either!
Love it. As a Minion build enjoyer, the feature that really excites me is the ability to make a specter out of specific mini bosses, using their modifiers and such. It sounds really neat and I can't wait for early access.
I'm a Merc main more than likely unless the ranger is everything I've ever wanted out of a bow class (it might be)! The minion versatility and just... amount of control they're providing seems insane. I was never a necro main myself but I'll 100% be trying out their new system for minions and all the QoL I've seen showcased for it so far. See you in November 🙂
Looking back at the last 11 years made me shed a couple of tears. So many memorable moments and life long friendships. A golden age in ARPG history indeed, can't wait to enjoy the sequel. The great Exile era.
730 subs? Not for long brother! Damn fine work here. Been playing Poe since closed beta. I still remember how excited I was to get a key. This was a trip down memory lane, thanks :)
I joined PoE in 2016 so this research made me appreciate them even more! Glad it hit so well with all you veterans as well, thanks for the kind words 🍻
What keeps me coming back is the changes. Not because it's new stuff, but because it changes all the old stuff, which in a game this deep has a knock-on effect that can completely change the meta, the economy or drive people to different things. The game is a fresh wipe every 3-4 months and is often different enough every time to stay fresh.
Well done! Never really knew anything about GGG and this definitely brought me up to speed. Definitely gets me excited to see promotional content with co-op showcased for PoE 2!
I was one of the lucky ones that heard of the game back in 2012 and I literally never looked back since. Nearing 11k hours as a 'dedicated casual', I just loving opening up the game, create my own goals because there is so much you can do in the game and just have fun. I have skipped a few more leagues in the recent years but that's more because of shoulder issues than the game itself. Really looking forward to WASD playstyle, which will probably relieve some stress from my right arm and shoulder ! And man I love Chris Wilson, I do miss him in the recent reveals.
Get an ergonomic chair with a proper armrest in case you have issues with your appendages. And make sure your table has the correct height for your arms.
@N7sensei doing all that for decades, every 7-8 years I invest in a high end chair. I always paid close attention to that. Now I can barely play long without days of facing the consequences. Doctors seem to be pretty clueless with me after months without any improvement.
This is such an amazing video! I'm sitting here with goosebumps all over remembering all the good times! I started playing back in 2011 and to see those old trailers and that gameplay again along with all this history. I still remember the shaving video and I remember that he looked so weird shaved and now it's the otherway around. Thanks so much for this video. Simply amazing!

You're too kind, truly 🍻 This was a very fun one to put together! PoE was my original ARPG love during my WoW days, I've been a fanboi of GGG's work for quite awhile (since Breach league) and PoE2 has me beyond excited!
Thank You for making this video. It has made me even more excited for the upcoming release of PoE2. GGG are the definition of passion and dedication is video game development.
I have been playing since their very first alpha tests, back when merveil was the endgame in 2011. Its been crazy to see how everything progressed, its always interesting seeing old gameplay and how ugly it was, but it was so beautiful to me back then. Cant wait for poe 2! Cool video.
Oh wow, an OG, that's amazing!! Their passion has shone through the entire time for sure, I was also blown away even back in Breach league and...it just keeps getting better 🤯
This isn't a feature I'm excited for but, being able to experience a game I've dumped close to 10k hours into for the first time is something i didn't think would ever happen. There's still knowledge that will help me progress into PoE2 but the day one "wtf is happening" feeling is something that I am so F***ing ready for. Great Vid btw
The name has actually another meaning in my opinion, it references the gears grinding inside your head to make everything work. It makes you think to progress, rather than mindlessly grind. PoE shines brightest when you see how everything interacts with each other (another meaning btw) and the potential you can extract from it.
And some people will claim that the game is braindead... yeah maybe after 4000 hours, but nobody forced you to play that much ! They manage to make the game feel fresh every 3 months, and that is pretty amazing. Even I, as a seasoned player, feels like I am constantly trying to climb a slippery slope while amassing game knowledge.
Thanks so much! I did something similar with Eleventh Hour Games but that was only ~5 years of development lol. The PoE patch by patch video would 100% be 2+ hours but it would be super cool to see especially as I really dug into the early development for this video, I was more and more intrigued!
@@GavrynGaming I think there is a lot of people (including myself) which are playing now, and are curious when did Essences came or what was the league with Beasts etc. 100% An awesome series that has potential! Cheers

There you GO!!! 4:20 DIABLO-LIKE-GAME!!! Rod´s salvation :P
To add fuel to the fire of Rod's tweet, GGG has never been anything but supportive of the Diablo team (during their development of D4 even) and have claimed multiple times that making a D2-esque sequel was their original inspiration for PoE lol. GGG is top class!
Most anticipated feature - the dynamic endgame system. Close second is the revamped skill system. Thanks for the video, I enjoyed watching it.
Ty for this. To answer u: I came back because of the developers I feel respected (I would buy shares of the company if I could), then the community. To answer the second question: The slow pace and the sinergies of the skills.
GGG has earned my trust, their development has continued in such a good direction, agreed! Looking forward to the combat overall for PoE2 as well myself, nice choice
OMG Chris with Beard and Hair !! I almost didnt recognise him!! - What a great video
A lot of died hard POE players can find major gripes with GGG and some of the changes they implement, but they truly don't understand how good they have it that their main game has these guys, they are leagues beyond any of the current game devs producing games of a similar quality and we should all be grateful for it.
I've spent 1500$ on this game and I don't regret it. I love this game and they do to.
There is so much that I like about what I have seen, and I had no doubt that GGG would put out a quality game, but getting to keep my investment in PoE is absolutely pivotal to my anticipation.
Most companies would have raked us over the coals and squeezed more out lol they're losing short term gains and gaining long term fans
Such an amazing story on PoE! Thanks for your hard work!
As a long time fan this honors the game so well. My respect for the developers grows and grows. awesome video!
That's actually a huge compliment, that was my aim with this one, I respect the hell out of GGG!
Well researched, good editing, smooth narrative, pleasant voiceover. All in all, super high quality video. Thanks for making this and good luck on future efforts!
Thank YOU for watching and the kind words, truly! 🍻
This video autoplayed after something else I was watching while playing PoE. Absolutely stayed and watched the whole video, and subscribed to the channel. Great work!
Wow thank you algorithm and thank YOU for checking it out 🍻
OMG i loved this picture 04:48
Thanks for the video, you bring back so many memories from 2012 to now.
So glad hearing veterans enjoyed the nostalgia, it was amazing uncovering all this myself in my research, I started in Blight after they were already well established!
Hey Gavryn, I didn't know nothing about the story of GGG and thanks to you, I can know why Path of Exile is one of the best ARPG of all time.
Thanks for the video!
The PoE2 hype is real!!
@@Newchaos190 After a couple of hours you either love it or hate it, those that love it choose to support it if they're able to and they keep delivering, it really is genius!
@@GavrynGaming definitely give it a go. It is the most forgiving/generous league for people like you and I with not a lot of time.
As for your question about what keeps me coming back? The absolute wealth of options for builds. I tried a Hollow Palm-Freezing-Ignite-Fire-Conversion Ice Crash Chieftain before the nerfs to Heatshiver. On a budget of less than 5 div? Not great. Was there potential? Yes.
@@suthtech I think I will be in the next week or so starting with a month or so left in 3.25. Really glad to hear how forgiving it is and really impressed with the game's player retention this league
this is such a cool video, I'm a Kiwi and started playing at Closed Beta.
Appreciate you checking out my video and sharing your PoE adventures, see you in PoE2 🍻
looking forward to the new gem link system and delve into the game .
After seeing how well they've reworked the 4-5 league mechanics from PoE1 to PoE2 already and how much more modern and QoL they were I'm excited to see what they do with delve!
Great video -- thank you very much for the time and effort. As for what I am looking forward to the most in PoE... it'd have to be the "new" gem system which includes:
1. moving the sockets from gear to a separate UI
2. allowing all skill/trigger/meta gems to have 6 sockets
3. coupling some skills to weapon type
4. auto-weapon switching on skill use
5. strategically allocating support gems to only one skill each
6. cutting your gems
and there's probably more that I'm leaving out -- but you can see how significant of a design change this is... and it's glorious.
Wholeheartedly agree here, I'm beyond excited to not have to play socket tetris whenever an upgrade drops too 😂
This video is 10/10 mate, I hope you'll gain a lot more subscribers!
@@GavrynGaming Eh, I haven't played many MMO's, I would say it looks like POE crossed with Dark souls, but I haven't played all that many ARPGs, just Grimdawn, Last Epoch, and POE, in have the D2 remake installed, but haven't gotten very far in it.
i had no idea Weissman helped fund this. Mind blown as i started mtg in '97. POE is by far the best game i've ever invested time into.
Him and Chris both brought a lot of design into the game and monetization etc from MTG yeah! Brian is a genius flat out, I wish I had gotten into Magic in the late 90s, but I was young and Pokemon sucked me in 😔
I met Chris and these guys in 2012 at a little meet up in SF. Never imagined the community would grow like this
I'm not even a POE player but I love the way GGG does things.
This doco is incredible and you deserve so many more subs; would love to see more deep dives into POE1/2 and GGG.
What a nice and heartwarming story. For me its nearly the whole game, everything just looks stunning.
All great points. I would add that the skill tree is like MTG. where YOU get to choose. if you take D2/ wow etc you are limitied to only a few pathways.
GGG allow you to nit pick, find strange results or create a bizzarre build . always new, always similar
Impressive video bro, your a great narrator too! Nice work
Thank you for watching, so glad you enjoyed!
How can you not have 100k+ subs? This video was actually AWESOME.
Great video! I played this game for almost 10 years now, and learned some new things in this video, thank you!
Very well done, great video, enjoyed it from start to finish, see you all in poe 2.
See you in November!!
Superb stuff! Learned some new things I didn't know about them.
@@GavrynGaming i completely agree! And its such a huge contrast to the rest of the gaming industry.
It's wild seeing how old games from 2010 looks like, It was like 5 minutes ago!!
The first character selections screen they had made me cry listening to the jailer and the stories.
CHRIS W still have that Duelist hairstyle. Now he the Templar
It's going to be surreal playing both games, especially if they can really hit the cadence between PoE1 and PoE2 patches just right!
GGG is one of the rare breeds nowadays that really out their heart and soul into their game
well done man, after all these years and hours of playing poe and seeing its progress , videos like these are so precious and so satisfying
I'm happy to have done the fine folks at GGG any justice! Thanks for watching 🍻

Hmm, I see. Good luck with your health, mate!
Immediate upvote. Gotta build this up for POE 2!!!!
Ayy the old af hair cutting video, this is like hidden lore
I loved how the hairdresser was literally next door in their old office "this one looks good" 😂
lets find a hairdresser. *goes next door* This one looks good :D
My favourite feature revealed so far is the weaponswap/assigning system it seems so smooth and make for interesting choices especially witht he split skillpointtree per weapon as well
@@ZariTenjin It reminds me of Guild Wars a bit? Which I know was inspiration for them and that Chris and Jonathan both played it back in the day. Yeah the combos and swapping will make the combat feel so much more deep
Great video. Got over 10k hours path of exile, and i never knew whats the history behind the game. Thanks alot !
nearly 6k hours, and 8 years, and I never made the GRINDING GEAR games connection. Wow
I just watched this video on Raxxanterax stream. It was really well done.
Great video! Really interesting insight and I'm happy you're branching out to other games in the ARPG genre. Oh and gratz on your almost 500 subs btw. I'm looking forward to seeing you hitting that 1k subs soon
Rax army arrived 🎉
Very well done sir.
Big fan GFL, thank you very much 🙏
@@GavrynGaming well, if you are a big fan... WHY DIDN'T YOU MENTION ME!==!=!!?!?!?!?1'1'1''11oneononeoeneone ;) jkjkjk
So these are the guys that create the game genre action RPG called exile-like ?
The incredibly slick apparent feel of combat is what gets me excited!
It looks buttery in videos, I need to actually feel it though! I can't wait
What an amazing video, very well put together mate!
November 15th hype!!
in Poe2 I can't wait for coup and new move tech!
Wonderfully composed video by the way!
Well done video! You earned a new sub
thoroughly enjoyed the video. was awesome seeing some early clips from the OG's Chris and Jonathan
The name has actually another meaning in my opinion, it references the gears grinding inside your head to make everything work. It makes you think to progress, rather than mindlessly grind. PoE shines brightest when you see how everything interacts with each other (another meaning btw) and the potential you can extract from it.
I like that! It does indeed make my brain hurt and I love it :)
I don’t have a question, but I just wanted to comment to help reference your video. Good work :)
The algo gods and myself thank you, for real 🙏
Awesome video! Would love to see the patch by patch progression, tho that may be a 2h video haha
Cheers
I remember when they were looking for alpha testers back in 2010 and I applied. They selected me in June 2011, around the 0.8.5 version. A busy evening was seeing four players on at once !
I have been hooked ever since. It's come a long way from a single looping act on increasing difficulty to where it is now. Can't wait to experience PoE 2. Great video by the way.
Great Job on making this Video. The best part about Poe for me personally is creating builds. You can pick any ability in the game and TRY to make it work. And when it finally works it is so satisfying.
I always follow a build guide to experience the end-game T16s and ubers, otherwise I get hard stuck in yellows trying to go it on my own 😅 do you homebrew your own?
@@GavrynGaming Yep i pick a skill and pob stuff until something works haha. Doesnt work against ubers mostly but hey i killed uber eater once, and the base bosses all work.
@@TheArisen That's a huge accomplishment for homebrewing!
