I loved this game back in elementary school, now I'm 25 and I still remember the secret stash locations (the one where you blow up the chimney to reveal unlimited ammo and the one in the cave for health).
GUN is among my favorite western games of all time and really made early teens. The inclusion of quite a few historical western figures also makes it stand out, even if they are somewhat fictionalized for the game. I'm glad to still have my og XBOX copy. Classic.
I remember playing this back in the day on my PS2, one of my first ever games played on that console. It's a damn shame we never got a sequel. I Just imagine in an alternate reality where GUN & Red dead became the two competitors in the western genre, similar to how Call of Duty & Battlefield compete in the first person shooter genre.
Yeah, unfortunately, Activision was more interested in having Neversoft pumping out a bunch ofTony Hawk's games. This definitely could've made for a great franchise, but, oh, well...
Yeah, it's funny to look back on some games and realize how much simpler they were than how we perceived them as kids. I feel like, to even imagine that a game like RDR2 would be possible in a few years, would sound like nonsense to most.
GUN will forever be my favorite game of all time. I have collected just about all of the memorabilia possible. Everything from posters, sealed playing cards, store signage, oddball items, and even sealed copies from every platform it was released on! I keep everything put away and protected in boxes and protectors if possible. I'm really hopping for a remake and a sequel one of these years but it's unlikely sadly💔
It's unfortunate that the game never received a sequel or a remake, but, hey, at the end of the day, I guess there's always hope. Now I don't know about GUN memorabilia in particular, but aren't some of these things super rare to find and, sometimes, fairly expensive? I remember hearing Maximilian Dood talking about how hard it was to find some of the stuff for Final Fantasy and Capcom games and it gets to a point where it's just ridiculous. Did you luck out and gathered all these things right after the game came out or did you have to go through the hassle of finding them all? Either way, that's some admirable dedication and I respect it. I really appreciate your comment.
I heard a lot of stories like that. After the first time I came across it, I forgot its name. Had to go around looking for every western game I could to find it again when I was a bit older.
It is a possibility. Honestly, there's so much that could happen after Microsoft acquired Activision-Blizzard that I prefer to be cautiously optimistic to not be disappointed (Looking at you HoTS).
None of the other Microsoft acquisitions have been even remotely positive for the gaming market, and especially not for people who were fans of any of the IPs and studios that Microsoft purchased. They went around buying all these studios seemingly to just fire everyone and scrap everything except for a handful of the absolute best sellers. Since GUN wasn't one of the best selling games of all time, I can't imagine we will ever see more of it under Microsoft. Most of the acquisitions have been pointless, and now there will be even fewer original games in the future because of it. Nothing to celebrate there. Nothing good ever comes from monopolies
i never even tried this game for some reason, i've seen it on my friend's PC a lot, but i never actually tried to play it. I think he might have confused it with another game, as he told me it was a multiplayer shooter. But now i kinda wanna try it out, seeing as Call of Juarez has softlocked me XD this also takes me back to the days, where i was 1000% sure that Rockstar would NEVER make another RDR game. and i'm glad i was wrong, becuase they made a masterpiece!
Honestly, to this day, it kind of baffles me on how they managed to make RDR2 even better than the first one. And I think the game that your friend might have confused with GUN could be Outlaws, it's the first old Wild West multiplayer shooter that comes to mind.
@@sailinghoundgt the game he talked about had something with "gun" in it's name, but i have no idea now tbh. anyway, RDR2 is a masterpiece IMO, it's a great game to mess around with, like GTA, but it also has a great story and such a cool world to explore and relax in, fishing and stuff like that is just sooo nice. it's the small details, and honestly i think it will be hard for any game to compete as of now. Gun looks really cool though, i think it's pn sale RN, so maybe i'll check it out.
i was just scrolling through youtube, randomly saw a video about a game that i played the hell out of, clicked on it made it full screen, watched every second of it, once it finished i was surprised the creator got 86 subs, it felt like a gaming documentary, so much nostalgia. and let me tell you my story i played both Red dead revolver and Gun in the same time, i enjoyed Gun way more than i enjoyed the original red dead, always wanted to see a new game from them but never happened, tbh now its too late nothing can compete with rockstar good job and keep up the good work 🤍
Thank you. Yeah, Red Dead Revolver was a little wonky and I feel like the pacing was a bit choppy overall. Gun definitely feels more "up do date" when compared to it.
I have heard this game described as red dead before red dead. I hope they make a remake or sequel at some point. There just aren't enough western games.
Yeah, the western genre could use some new games. After Call of Juarez pretty much fell into gaming limbo, Red Dead is one of the few franchises remaining.
It's unfortunate when a good game idea or a concept is abandoned entirely, just because it was implemented ONCE and it wasn't the best-selling game of all time. Especially when the thing that caused it to fail had nothing to do with the game itself and more to do with the publisher.
And unfortunately this happens WAY too often. Most AAA companies have some insane standards for what is "commercially successful" and so they just axe anything below 2 million copies. They just want the end result of a successful franchise immediately or they don't feel like it's worth it.
@@sailinghoundgt This is why I don't understand how people can celebrate and get excited when Microsoft or another big studio goes around buying up tons of IPs and studios, as if that's somehow going to result in MORE games instead of way fewer. They already shuttered basically everything except for their top 3 biggest sellers of all time.
i had to write another comment i hope it doesn't impact anything i said on the 1st comment there was another weird game that is forgotten way more than any other game made by no more than the mighty Rockstar, name of the game is [The Warriors] i hope you make a video about it thanks again
"Warriors... Come out and play-yay". Good call actually. Rockstar has A LOT of forgotten games that they released in the 2000s. I feel like,The Warriors is a particular case, considering that it came out 26 years after the movie, so most wouldn't even know what it was about. I will definitely put it in my "to do list".
My only experiences with it have been with the PC version. I have no idea how good each port is, all I can tell you is that the 60 FPS and 1080p mods are game changers for the PC version. So, if anything, the PC version is probably the best.
@@sailinghoundgt I know PC versions are generally the best course of action (especially with mods) but I always have to question it when I could buy a physical console version for less than the Steam version.
@@someoneelse1534 Buying a PC will save you the most money in the longest run. It solves all these questions, forever and opens up the entire console library that has ever existed to time to you.
So happy to see GUN getting the recognition it deserves in the last few years.
Nah thus game still doesn't get the recognition it deserves
I agree.
I loved this game back in elementary school, now I'm 25 and I still remember the secret stash locations (the one where you blow up the chimney to reveal unlimited ammo and the one in the cave for health).
I had completely forgotten about the secret stashes. That actually took me back. Thank you for reminding of them.
I didn't actually know you could find a secret NG+ option until a few years ago, and I've been playing the game since it came out on the PS2.
This was such a good game with great voice acting. Thomas Jane, the same face and voice of the Punisher, as Colton fit so well.
Great overall review I remember playing this classic game very underrated

@sailinghoundgt Activision owning the IP now does give me a slimmer of hope, but the west is a controversial setting ans we know how Activision is
For a second I was like: "Why does this look so familiar?" Then I remembered I played this when I was six
