Aliens Fireteam was awesome, especially considering it was a small studio and their first game. You can tell they are true fans of license. Hopefully they're hard at work on a sequel!
Isolation is so unbelievably amazing that really the only major criticism I see levied at it is how long it is- which is honestly perfectly fair, it is a little stretched. Definitely a baseline for how I think Alien should be handled.
I was so entrenched in the atmosphere that didn’t bother me as much. My two criticisms are pretty minor; I wish the alien moved vertically more, crawling on walls etc. and the other being the lack of acid blood damage to the player or hull. It would be really cool to see that actually implemented in a game as permanent damage to the environment, but I guess that would be a nightmare to program.
Isolation is still one of my fav horror games to date. I replay it every October and the AI makes this game fresh every time, never knowing when the alien will show up. I love Dead Space Remake and last night I started it for the spooky season, and was immediately taken out of the horror of it. Knowing exactly when all the scares are coming (as I played the original game like 10-15 times) kind of kills the horror and turns it into more of an action game.

If I could offer a game to potentially play, it would be "Zombie Army Trilogy." (ZAT) It was originally released for PC under the name, "Natzi Zombie Army." The game was a spin off of the Sniper Elite game series, which is all about stealth. The Devs (Rebellion) decided to make a spin off that featured zombies. Its essentially what Undead Nightmare was for Red Dead Redemption. It was successful, so they did a sequel. When they made the 3rd game, they repackaged it as a Trilogy and changed the name. The game (ZAT) essentially plays like a 3rd Person Left 4 Dead, but set in WW2. And Rebellion, while a small studio, has been around for a long time & are veterans. They are based in the UK. Their games get so little acknowledgement that I feel like giving them a shout out. And, ZAT is a good game, if you like 3rd person shooters. There is also a Zombie Army 4.
OOF. No Aliens: Dark Descent mention? Disappointed in you. Edit: posted around the Aliens Fireteam Elite since it was near the end of the video without Dark Descent getting it's own section. Still disappointed, but it's not for everyone. If Alien Isolation is the best Alien game made, then Dark Descent has to be the best Aliens game made. My favorite out of all of them, that's just me 🤷
6:39 Dude….you’re telling me that in 30 years of playing the arcade game I never knew you could kill the queen without throwing her out the airlock via the power loader??? Insane!
When he said, "Blaster that kind of resembles the Pulse Rifle from the Movies", and showed the picture, I just said out loud "That's a Warhammer Bolter Mate"
Is everyone just forgetting the Halloween mission where you get the dog on campus to poop for the prank? There is a frisbee in that area with the dog. You can play fetch. But be careful - I accidentally knocked him out cold with the frisbee
Just a nitpick on the Super Facehugger in Alien 3 The Gun. It does exist in the Assembly Cut of the film. Also I'm one of those who thinks Aliens Dark Descent was great. Not a masterpiece and not better than Alien Isolation but I love it.
Aliens is my favorite arcade game, and it feels great to hear a big youtuber talk about it. I agree that it's got a lot of jank and many "gotcha" moments that will catch people during their first playthrough, but once you know what to look out for it's a very fun game. Feels like it's held together with duct tape and rubber bands, and I wouldn't have it any other way. 1CCing the game during a trip in Japan was one of the greatest moments of my life.
Man I laughed so hard throughout this. I agree with you about Alien Trilogy and the bone ship…that was the stuff of nightmares when I was 10 years old!!!
The Working Joes in ALIEN: Isolation be like: "Please remain calm. Let's have a talk about safety." *Says the one trynna bash my skull against a wall and paint it red*
'I have taken a vow of celibacy, which also includes women!' should be among the most quotable Alien series lines. Also the 'Fuck!' when the Superintendent gets snatched. Basically anything Morse says.
i am amaze that apparently very few people know or remember that alien isolation technically cheats because AI-1 controls the alien and AI-2 randomly gives hints to AI-1 as to either what direction u are hiding or what room u are specifically in
I'm pretty sure it's only a matter of time until Nightdive remasters the Alien Trilogy. And because they're owned by Atari, it'll probably be overpriced.
I remember enjoying a source engine ( was it called source engine when it was based off of HL1?) mod of Alien. Start out as a facehugger, finding prey, birthing a Xenomorph then go around messing players up. All the crawling on walls and huge leaping ability was so fun.
About 25 years ago there was an aliens fps game. It was pvp/pve. There was about 5 maps. You played as either alien or marine. As a marine - you got faster and shot straighter as you gained exp.. As an alien you got faster and stronger the same way. Each side had a limited number of respawns on each map. There were alien and marine npc on the maps so if no one was logged on you could still level. It was great.
As a former 1990 ALIENS Arcade game player who used to finish the game with a single quarter I must say you got it all wrong. The game is actually very easy if you learn the enemy patterns, the proper weapons to use and advance SLOWLY. The flamethrower is the BEST weapon of the whole game. You should have it in the elevator level since the smartgun and the rockets damage the lift cables. There are three missiles in top of the APC that can be used by pressing the crouch-shot button. Those are useful when there are many enemies in front. And the Queen can be defeated without destroying her if you damage her enough so she starts changing colors from blue to purple. As soon as the airlock door opens you can lift her using the Powerloader and tapping quickly the crouch-shot button until you move her into the airlock and throw her into space.
Had no idea old school tech from the 80's and 90's was called "Cassette Futurism" now. I always loved the look of things in that era and love even more how it's something I can search online for ideas. Thanks, Gman. 🙂
About the Alien 3 arcade game...what's funny about the "Super Facehugger" is that there was a deleted/alternate scene where an ox was impregnated and died. There, they discovered the corpse of what was known as "The Queen Facehugger". It was larger and had a different carapace. It carried two embryos. A queen (which impregnated Ripley) and a guardian drone (which impregnated the ox).
Aliens Extermination is awesome. I played it all the time in two different Sydney locations: Hoyts Chatswood Mandarin and in the plaza that leads into the Star casino. I began every poker session by playing Extermination back in 2010 - 2012.
I still recall being hyped up to play Colonial Marines because it had couch coop, which my brother and I were big into Alien. Popped it into the ps3 and dealt with audio cutting out 30% of the time. Fought the queen with no game audio.
I remember looking forward to Colonial Marines on the Wii U, hoping they's use the Gamepad as a motion sensor. They also said games would support multiple Gamepads, so I hoped for a co-op sequel to infestations, with each player having their own small screen while the big screen was a map to fill out, and clues like motion sensor pings and objectives and notes. I imagined cool missions, with players stuck in different sections, players holding until the others could find ways to support them... But most people don't even know the Wii U ever existed, and these games never existed... Very sad, the potential for greatness was there.
A friend of mine recently spoke with various devs who worked on Colonial Marines as part of an article he wrote. It was an uphill battle to put it lightly. Poor communication/mismanagement, an uncooperative game engine, and a studio (Gearbox) who couldn't make up their mind as to what Colonial Marines should be were the big reasons why Colonial Marines turned out the way it did. Hicks wasn't originally going to be the Maguffin. It was supposed to be a Weyland Yutani scientist seeking revenge against the company, but Gearbox changed it because, "Let's retcon Alien 3!" Several ideas and enemies were cut, like healing stations and an albino xenomorph that was essentially a walking tank. Ironically, the teams that worked on multiplayer and DLC didn't face as much interference.
Luckily, yesterday Creative Assembly announced a sequel to Alien: Isolation. I don't know how they can make the formula better, but I can't wait to play with that game.
I remember hearing somewhere with Resurrection that the design philosophy was something along the lines of if the testers complained about a segment being too hard then they'd just make it harder, truly psychopath game design.
Alien Trilogy on PS1 is my first alien game and it was really a fun eerie shooter game for kid me and friend back then, we had a blast just shrieking and blasting things in that game.
"If you don't have any thing nice to say, don't say anything at all." Good for you man! I wish some of these other reactionary , click bait title, outrage machine, content creators out there would take that and write it down.
I got to play Extermination at least once in an arcade, it was pretty neat. Did remind me of playing Alien 3: The Gun as a kid. Also, my favorite part of Aliens: Infestation is learning about the Credits Music of that game, done by the band called "Holy Light of Demons" lol. It's GLORIOUS.
Even though you didnt include Alien Vs Predator games in the list, I would say AvP 2 was easily one of the best aliens experiences. The marine campaign was the scariest alien game until Alien Isolation came out, and the alien campaign was lots of fun running around killing things. Also AvP for the arcade was a fantastic beat em up
Bizarre that this came out right before the second Isolation gets announced. Personally I believe you hold some kinda Oz magic, did you click your heels three times or something?
It occurred to me once that Alien could make for a brilliant asymmetrical multiplayer game similar to that Friday the 13th one: The players are crewmembers, one is randomly chosen as holding a chestburster and one as an android. Start the players off with a bunch of mundane spaceship busywork to help familiarize with the layout and spread them out so the newborn alien isn't immediately mobbed.
Space Station 13 has scenarios like that, as far as I remember some old AvP game had a multiplayer mode with progression for the xenos going from facehugger to chestburster to drone. Then there is Evolve which has an asymetric dynamic pitting one player against four, Natural Selection is another honorable mention with asymetric Marine versus Xeno gameplay.
See, in the Alien 3 games - I never believed they were 'rescuing' the prisoners, unless you mean rescuing them from a worse fate. I always imagined Ripley was running up to them and giving them a quick gunshot to the chest or whatever. :)

@@szeltovivarsydroxan9944Yeah, Amnesia, please ignore the game Gman mentions at the end of the video after Fireteam Elite and do not, under any circumstances, type Aliens Dark Descent into Google. It will just being up Amnesia.
If I could offer a game to potentially play, it would be "Zombie Army Trilogy." (ZAT)
It was originally released for PC under the name, "Natzi Zombie Army." The game was a spin off of the Sniper Elite game series, which is all about stealth.
My favorite out of all of them, that's just me 🤷
you really expect this guy to play a real time tactic game? lol
He did
He mentions it in the Outro section, along with his reasons for not including it. A shame. I played through it recently and loved it.
It was brilliant
I think the best way to experience Aliens Dark Descent is on the hardest difficulty, it forces the player to play in a intended way.
Nightdive desperately needs to redo Alien Trilogy.
I recommend Metroid Prime 4
It's confirmed that the Metroid series was inspired by Alien.
6:39 Dude….you’re telling me that in 30 years of playing the arcade game I never knew you could kill the queen without throwing her out the airlock via the power loader??? Insane!
"They mostly come at night...mostly!" ☹
Gotta admit...I really enjoyed the "Hudson Sir, He's Hicks" running gag. Nicely done.
No Gman, I am not watching the Barbie video.

Dark Descent is easily one of the best games in the franchise since A:I. I'd even put it up there with AvP2.
@@IrisCorven I agree with you 100%
Aliens is my favorite arcade game, and it feels great to hear a big youtuber talk about it.
Gotta love that the also left the silent strafe walk in isolation all this time too for anyone doing second or further runs.
hope you enjoyed the new movie
2:02 i love how they even switched haircolors between the two of them
You doing a quick review on Alien Isolation is prefect timing cause this month celebrates it’s 10 anniversary
The Working Joes in ALIEN: Isolation be like:
"Please remain calm. Let's have a talk about safety."
*Says the one trynna bash my skull against a wall and paint it red*
I will die on the hill that Alien 3 was great
It was, it just wasn’t made for everybody like Aliens was.
I think it's alright. Not bad, not particularly good. I'd watch it over Resurrection, Prometheus, and Alien Covenant. (haven't seen avp movies)
Great film
Best soundtrack out of all the films
And the most brutal alien too
'I have taken a vow of celibacy, which also includes women!' should be among the most quotable Alien series lines.
Just gotta work out the licensing for that to happen.
I remember enjoying a source engine ( was it called source engine when it was based off of HL1?) mod of Alien. Start out as a facehugger, finding prey, birthing a Xenomorph then go around messing players up. All the crawling on walls and huge leaping ability was so fun.
GoldSource. I think that's Natural Selection you're thinking of.
Great video but why did you not review Aliens Fireteam Elite and Aliens Dark Descent?
-with the exception of under the mayo- HAHAHAHA
"Gman", more like a man of culture 7:42
About 25 years ago there was an aliens fps game. It was pvp/pve.
There was about 5 maps. You played as either alien or marine. As a marine - you got faster and shot straighter as you gained exp..
As an alien you got faster and stronger the same way. Each side had a limited number of respawns on each map. There were alien and marine npc on the maps so if no one was logged on you could still level.
It was great.
You missed the Aliens VS Predator game from the xbox 360 era. It had a very fun Alien Campaign 😢
He did a separate video about these games about a year ago
Damn can't believe you left out the most Funnest game Arcade: Alien V Predator where you can either play as 2 humans or 2 different Predators
I covered it in my AVP video.
Great video. Got some genuine lols with the Hudson / Hicks call back joke.
Isolation 2 just announced!
Had no idea old school tech from the 80's and 90's was called "Cassette Futurism" now. I always loved the look of things in that era and love even more how it's something I can search online for ideas. Thanks, Gman. 🙂
I think the assembly cut of Alien 3 is better than Aliens. Please feel triggered everyone.
And I think Prometheus makes sooo much sense 😂
Naahh not better then Aliens but mutch better then the '92 cut. And certainly mutch better then Alien Resurrection.
That ship alarm gives me nightmares. The false finish when putting on the space suite almost had me alt f4... but I learnt to love it.
You have perfect timing, Creative Assembly just announced a sequel to Alien Isolation
I come for the video essay, stay for the commentary, and keep coming back for the "Your Mum" jokes
Hearing Alien trilogys E1M1 music for the first time in decades has me scared to turn the lights off
I mean... this franchsie actually accompanied my whole life, so this trip down memory lane is actually quite welcome!
Cool - I've always wanted to cover these games, just as an excuse to try them all.
Need to replay isolation for sure!
Thank you for that, Alien Trilogy used to terrify me as a child too... something about that music from the first level and the limited draw distance.
Alien movie marathon time! Great video bub, I love these longer deep dives!
38:55 This mechanic was planned to be used in cancelled Aliens game on PS2. I remember reading about it in some game magazine around 2003.
"If you don't have any thing nice to say, don't say anything at all."
Good for you man! I wish some of these other reactionary , click bait title, outrage machine, content creators out there would take that and write it down.
Alien Trilogy's soundtrack was god tier. And the cheat code is so iconic too
I got to play Extermination at least once in an arcade, it was pretty neat.
Also AvP for the arcade was a fantastic beat em up
I did a separate AVP video.
@@Gggmanlives I'll have to watch it
love your videos btw
The lloyd christmas scream never gets old for me 😂
