  • An ABS control module replacement is an easy DIY fix. I show you how to repair a bad ABS control module on a 2007 Toyota Camry. The anti-lock braking system control module replacement should also be relevant for the 2008 and 2009 Toyota Camry as well.

    I am in tears. You video is awesome. My module went out and Toyota told me it was going to be about $2000 to repair. I ordered the unit from a salvage dealer. After watching your video I realized I only needed to change the control Module. Job complete in 10 minutes. Thank you!!!

    General FYI: I had the same issue with an 07 Camry. In the process of taking out the old one I found a lot of dust/debris in there. Blew compressed air throughout it and plugged it back in and everything was back to normal again. Maybe worth a shot for some of you who are looking for solutions. Hey u are a lifesaver, I took my camry to Toyota dealership and they initially told me it was a bad wire fit for skid control sensor, so when I picked my car up the dealership gave it back to me with the lights on and issue still there,, speedometer not working, Rpm gauge bouncing, temp gauge going nuts, D not lightning up, and E would show where outside temp is,, then it would go back to normal, then do it again,, it drove me nuts and stressed me out.. Dealership finally told me it might be acutator but there not sure and it would at least cost me 2Gs,,and I kept telling them I would do it if I knew the issue for sure.. I just didn't understand how this dealership was so incompetent, and then I looked at reviews and people were saying same complaints about this dealership.. I am not a handy person at all, I'm more of a pay for it to go away and u saved me alot of money and more importantly piece of mind.. That's all I wanted from the dealership.. Thank u so much,, I paid 300 for whole thing and just took module off and used that

I found the module on line at ebay for $175 + $100 core. I will receive the core money after I've returned it. The total repair took me 20 minutes. You have to cheat ( find a smog station that will look the other way)
    This yr I can skip the smog test, but next year I will have to go through that process again. Hoping to sell the car before hand.

      I'm not a mechanic so I can't give a definitive answer. Do your research. Check the forums for your make of vehicle and ask others with the same make/model who have had the same problem. You could check in your vehicle's repair manual. Like at this link but for your vehicle: amzn.to/2NTYMrg. If you can't find the answers you need ask the auto recycler or get a local mechanic to do the work for you.

    Many thanks for this Video, Woodified.It is really an eye opener. I changed my 2008 Toyota Camry brake pads about 2 months ago, since then, the brake has been vibrating on idle speed when I match brake. My mechanic has confirmed that my ABS is bad, do I need to change only the ABS module to correct this?. However, my mechanic also suggested isolating the brake pipes from the ABS to allow the brakes pumps fluid directly, just like bypassing the ABS using other connectors, is this advisable? because I have seen this work perfectly in some vehicles. I learnt other compartments like AC and Gear are connected to the ABS module

    My ABS light on my 08 Camry comes on randomly and sometimes it comes on right away and stays on. I do not have the other dashboard issues as some in this post. I had a mechanic use his diagnostic tool and he said it was my ABS front wheel sensor, which I replaced. It didn't resolve the issue, so I checked the wiring back to the ABS module and all was good. I also tested the new ABS sensor with a ohm meter and it appears that the new and old sensor are good. I did some research on the internet and it appears that the ABS module could be the culprit. I found a replacement on line, but a few posts suggest I need to have the module "programmed" by the dealer. Anyone know if this is true? I read your post and after you replaced the module everything was fine. I'm just concerned that if I but this module on line for $150 that it won't work or create other issues. Thoughts?

    How do you match the serial numbers for the modules not every module is a sure fit for the car correct ? I was told it needs to be programmed by Toyota Dealer . Can someone help me on what to look for so I can match the right ABS actuator .

    • @trevorchristensen4103
      @trevorchristensen4103 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Found some around $70 +/-. You will need to look for a part that matches your year. Most eBay salvage yards will have the compatible years listed. the other thing is to look at your vin and see if it matches the correct letter on the 5th digit. ex: "F" would mean that it is an American built vs a Japanese built. For some reason the American and Japanese aren't compatible or so it seems. An earlier comment by @basitgill7519 said that you don't need to reprogram it but I haven't %100 verified ( so far currently under way with my repair). initially I got 7 error codes but if you clear them with a standard code reader and only 1 came back which might be because I only changed the electronic portion. if you change the pump area ( back half with the hydraulic lines - not just the electronics portion). then you will have to bleed the brakes to not get other errors such as a master cylinder pressure sensor error because of air. I'll comment again if I get it fully back up and going.

    • @DodgerRocket
      @DodgerRocket หลายเดือนก่อน

      @trevorchristensen4103 Thanks I needed the one with a " T" letter on it. Swapped out the electronics portion. All light codes went away and air stays on now ! The part cost me 116 . Compare that to 1600 wanted from dealer just for part. Mechanic would of charged me 750 to repair .

      @@DodgerRocket glad to hear it worked! I finally got mine fixed. I had a damaged computer potion( punctured). So I figured just the front half was needed. It must have fried the master cylinder sensor at the same time. That’s housed in the back half( it has the 4 copper pins that stick out.) so I ended up replacing the whole unit and bleeding the brakes after. Can confirm though that this skid control ecu doesn’t need to be re-programmed with vin numbers or anything.

The biggest problem for me is that the AC stops blowing cold air when all this is happening. I live in the desert where the temps are 110 degrees and drive for a living so I need this fixed ASAP. I called a few service centers and they think I'm crazy when I ask about the ABS nodule. They say that the ABS module is related to the brake system and doesn't have anything to do with the A/C or dash gauges. I don't have $$$$ for a dealership or repair center so this is my only hope. So idk if it's the part that the abs control module(ACM) connects to or if it's the ACM... but the part is making like a chirp noise when the brakes are applied.
    It's possible to avoid the chirp if I don't press the brakes past about 10%. This occurs while driving or if parked. Further, when I turn the vehicle on and if I immediately start reversing or going forward there is sometimes a delay in full brake function in the sense that the brakes will slow the vehicle but to stop it. To stop it I have to press way more than I should for the speed I am going.
    Wondering what could cause this. I'd prefer to not just replace the parts. I like to understand it and refurbish if possible.

    • @Woodified
      @Woodified  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not a mechanic and I've not had that issue. If you can't figure it out might be best to take the vehicle to a mechanic.

    • @mustache2295
      @mustache2295 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Woodified I ended up pulling the 2 40A fuses and putting them back in and the chirps didn't happen for about 10 miles and they started coming back. The abs pump is also coming on and off frequently. Like comes on for 10 seconds, off for 3 on for 10... Etc. The thing likely needs replaced but I know of these being refurbished so was hoping to do that instead of spending big moneys on a part that only costs that much because of safety reasons. Was also hoping that it could have been a partial blockage of some kind between the fluid reservoir and the pump but eh seems unlikely.

      The issue for my car was the module. However before I changed the part I was not 100% sure it would work. My auto recycler told me if it didn't fix the problem that I could return the part.
