Could you do an in-depth presentation on your setup? I want to know what you use for a blower, the kind of fuel you use (I assume charcoal), how your furnace works, what exactly your crucibles are made out of, etc. Thanks! In any event keep making these crucible steel videos.
I love your videos! Could you do a tutorial on exact products, ingredients, measurements, and temperatures for making wootz steel ? Your current videos on the subject are great but still leave some questions remaining. Thank you again for your wonderful videos and sharing your knife making skills.
@@charliebowen5071 Can't comment on if it would be categorized as wootz or not, he takes files into a crucible instead of ore, but it doesn't look like he ever folds the steel, and the pattern in the steel at the end is how actual Damascus (Wootz) steel would look like, it's the alloys within the steel showing.
Truly a masterful process!! I could watch you videos all day. I forged my first knife (not WOOTZ) yesterday. A few hundred more and I will be ready to try wootz, LOL
I'm just catching up to your channel and your results with crucible steel are incredible. In the few papers I've seen published on the subject it's often carbide precipitating alloy elements like vanadium that are believed to be one of the critical ingredients to forming the pearlite-carbide banding that is seen on classic wootz damascus. With your use of old tool steels do you know whether or not these contain trace amounts of vanadium or other alloying elements? Also I see you are adding additional carbon in the form of graphite during the crucible process to what I assume is already high carbon tool steels. Do you have any idea of the final carbon content of your steel?
very nice knife was not sure about tye dye on the burl handle it really brought the woods grain out very nice work you make some fantastic knives thank you for sharing them with us
That is a beautiful blade my man. I got lost a bit when you blackened the handle. I thought why cover over the pretty Walnut like wood, but when you started sanding, oh my word what an effect. Just sub'd and ain't going anywhere. More please, I'm gonna sit back and go through your back catalogue.
@@fz-makingknives3663 thank you for sharing your talent and showing us how somethings can be done, and materials are used, looking forward to you next projects, may i ask, will you be making any sheaths or scabbards , display stands?

You make the most awesome looking knives! I want to try something like this but I don’t really have the smelting situation figured out. Also need a good grinder 😔
Thank you all for watching.

also, what is that slurry and scraper you use to "sand" the knives?
Cast iron lap
Where did you get the materials for the crucible??
the Internet
All I can say is wow. That’s a beautiful knife. Being able to repurpose old files and have it all turn out so great. You are an artist!

The pattern in the wootz steel are awesome....Nice work 👍

This would have to be the most incredible dagger I have ever seen. Most satisfying seeing that it comes from homemade crucible steel. Great job
👍
Love the pattern...you are unique here on TH-cam.
Thanks 👍
I cannot overstate how beautiful the pattern is on this crucible steel that you're smelting. So lovely.
Beautiful dagger. Love the double edge👍👍🔥🔥

That’s beyond beautiful. You take smithing to another level. Greetings from Ecuador.

That’s a beauty. The burl wood handle’s gorgeous.

That burlwood grip is fantastic! Isn't it amazing how so many things in nature look like a camouflage pattern?
👍
well camo is meant to blend into nature so..

Cant believe how satisfying actual smithing and forging is. Too many TH-camrs simply just cut out a form out of sheet metal and call it a day.
