  • I've been lucky enough to pick up a Gen 3 2022 Specialized Turbo Levo Expert, which I've fondly dubbed "Turbo KevO", join me as I share some of the eNBD footage as well as some of my initial thoughts as I pedal around my local XC trail.. and some discuss some of the issues I've already had with the Brose 2.2 motor. This is by no means a review, but if you'd like me to cover more details and experience with ownership, please do drop a comment below. Since making this video, my multitool no longer pops out of the SWAT in the stem either... dodgy! Will be taking that back to have a look at soon on my first service.

    Welcome to the E-bike world 😀👋🤘What you will find is that when you reach 25/26 km/h motor assistance stops due to speed limited as per ADR, you now have to pedal through the motor hence the heavy resistance. You'll work out your own riding technique at that speed, the right gear choice etc. Get out on a flat fire trail & muck around feeling the motor kicking in & out.

      Thanks mate!
      Yeh didn’t really notice it on the first couple of rides including riding one for 3 hours at Falls Creek, so thought it was strange that I only noticed it on my local trail. I think riding in a lighter gear will definitely help which I have to learn to change into before any potential climbs around 25km/h

    Bumped into you recently during a weekday ride in Cherrybrook! Glad you are enjoying the bike. Not sure but heard a rattle on some of the chatter especially on the pool downhill - i had a similar sound which turned out to be an issue with the Fox 38 - fixed under warranty thanks to Cyclesport. Hope to see you around the trails.

      Hey James! Was nice to meet you the other week :D yeh that rattle has been bugging me… thought it might be the cables but thanks for letting me know it could be the forks; hard to pinpoint these things but will keep an ear out, cheers! Thanks for your message, will defo be happy to do a few laps with you somewhere.

    Thank you for the great video. I recently purchased a 2022 Turbo Levo Comp Alloy and love it. In your video it looked like you had an engine protector mounted on your bottom bracket? If so can you comment on if it’s any good and where you got it? Thks

      Hi mate thanks for your message, yes got the bash guard online for 60 pounds + shipping to Aus. Totally worth it, have already hit it on a rock 2nd ride after installation. Visit “Protect E-MTB” online, they have Specialized specific guards 👍

    How are you finding the S4 size? I'm looking at a Levo as well and could go either way on the sizing at 175cm tall. I did a parking lot spin and the S3 felt good, but then so did the S4!

    • @kevomtb3542
      @kevomtb3542  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey mate, I normally ride a medium and am “adapting” to the large. My advice is stick to what you’re used to riding, 95% of the time the size won’t matter though as both feel comfortable, but I’d slightly probably have preferred an s3 as I normally ride a medium… i find it harder to get the weight down on the front when cornering with the s4 and it’s a looong bike anyway so s3 would be stable enough. If you normally ride a large go with the s4, hope this helps!!

    Great review and video. What is your height? Sounds like S3 feels right for you?

    • @kevomtb3542
      @kevomtb3542  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks much appreciated! I’m 174cm… S3 would have been a better size for me, however swapping out the 50mm stem for a 35mm made a big difference.

  • @Roofusone_
    @Roofusone_ ปีที่แล้ว +1

    what made you choose the s4 as you mentioned your height and said your usually a medium, im a touch taller than you (178) and ride medium as well. They size me at an s3 online

    • @kevomtb3542
      @kevomtb3542  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I decided to go s4, as they only had s3 in the matte maroon at the time (which I didn’t want), plus I was curious to see if sizing up would suit my riding style as a medium Santa Cruz felt a tad small on some occasions riding steeper terrain.
      S4 is supposed to be suitable for riders 173cm-185cm tall so you’d actually be right in the middle at 178cm tall… if you’re used to riding a medium and find that comfortable, then stick with an S3.

  • @juslookinatyas
    @juslookinatyas ปีที่แล้ว

    Yea I got an S4 too at 173cm, really wish I got the S3, find it really hard to get my weight in the right spot during cornering.
    Also the 25kph limiter, I got a planet3 derestricter, and has been flawless for 1500kms, totally undetectable and easily removed.

    • @kevomtb3542
      @kevomtb3542  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve bought a shorter 33mm stem, waiting for it to arrive so hopefully that helps.
      Thanks for the recommendation for the derestricter, it’s on the consideration list :)

      I'm 173 cm and got an s3 without test riding. It still feels big and bulky but I am coming from a 26' bike.

      @@danzomon5853 wow yes that would be a huge difference, any modern MTB would probably feel like a boat in comparison… let us know how its feel after a couple of months!

      @@kevomtb3542 had it for a year now. Secured it during lockdown to help me cope haha! Should have waited to get comp carbon as I've upgraded the brakes..stem and was told last week that the x2 shock is subject to air leaks so will probably get a shock. Oh and the wheels have buckled...so will need to replace them too. Rovals are made of cheese..goddamit

    • @kevomtb3542
      @kevomtb3542  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danzomon5853 oh wow, and you’re still finding the size too big?! So you got the comp alloy? Haven’t heard of any issues with the x2… but yeh if you’re going to upgrade to coil or your own choice of forks then comp carbon is the way to go. I’m happy with the Fox 38/x2 combo working well for me. Yeh, I’ve already dinged my rear wheel, gonna invest in some carbon rims soon… but mullet is annoying, lack of choice with wheelsets for a reasonable price.

  • @jimji2774

    Enjoyed the ride. 25kmh is garbage. At least here in the USA they come 20 mph which is about 32 if I do the math correctly. I'd get a derestricter so fast.

    • @kevomtb3542
      @kevomtb3542  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeh heard it’s less restricted over there, and NZ is 30km/h I believe… and derestricted altogether is approx 45-50km/h!!

    What’s wrong is that the shop that sold the bike didn’t tell you about the 25km/h

      @kevomtb3542  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! All good, I already knew before actually just it wasn’t forefront of my mind until I rode the bike on that occasion, I didn’t even know I was hitting 25km/h at the time as I wasn’t looking down at the speedo. It’s just a legality here in Aus and wouldn’t have changed my mind about the bike purchase at all, cheers!
