Derby Tasmania MTB | First 13: Bay of Fires (Mar 2024)
มุมมอง 5929 หลายเดือนก่อน
On Day 2 of our Derby MTB trip we enjoyed much less pedalling and a lot more flow. After the first full run, our shuttle driver Ned shuttled us back to do the 7-13km a couple more times so we managed to get in 2.5 loops in the session before heading to Pyengana Dairy farmhouse for lunch. I rate the 10-13km section to have some of the best flow I've ever ridden... now we're talking!

Weatherwise, day#3 started off the same as it ended the day prior... very cold, windy and wet, snow had just appeared on the mountains for the first time in the year overnight. After karting and lunch, the weather was still pretty dodgy in the afternoon, but a few of us made the call to head out anyway, and were definitely rewarded for it... HERO DIRT for days and no wind or rain to speak of on...

Weather conditions was not too great on the morning of day 2, neither was the conditions of our heads and stomachs from the night before!! We bravely headed out anyway to Coronet Peak to check it out in the wind and rain, it was so gusty on some of those ridges making the experience even more thrilling (aka bloody frightening). New Zealand MTB | Cardrona | Peak to Pub | Day 1 Pt 2/2

Cardrona, Day 1 continued... An episode dedicated to the epic "Peak to Pub" run. Battery ran out about 20 mins in, luckily I eventually bothered to change the battery and continue filming. One of my favourite trails of not only Cardrona, but of the 5 days of riding in general; so much variety with the terrain it had a bit of everything including what I reckon is probably the world's most fun "f...

Day 1 of shredding in New Zealand (filmed in late March), headed to Cardrona which is about 45 drive south of Queenstown. It was a brisk 5 degrees or so most of the morning on the mountain, and eventually warmed up to about 15 degrees. 1 week later the whole mountain was blanketed in snow so we were lucky to have been able to ride it. Was thrilled to be riding on international soil for the firs...

Hitting ACT for the 2023 Aus day break doing some Stromlo shuttles featuring Waldo, James, Sam, Steve and Paul... we were pretty lucky with the weather as it was quite comfortable compared to the majority of the week (hot!), but the trails could certainly use a bit of rain! @@kristenbrook897 hope you enjoyed it, thanks for the comment! 🙌
hey i was wondering what size of bike you were riding and you're height
@@snowboard-bg1dn hi there, 174cm and medium… it’s perfect for me.
hi mate! how are you i just bought a bike but i have no friends to go to the manly dam, you still riding? cheers juan
@@jjotagm hi mate congrats! Have only been riding very sporadically lately… I suggest to join Northern Beaches Mountain Biking (NoBMoB) Facebook page to hook up some social rides with the locals :) cheers!
@@kevomtb3542 thanks a lot mate !!
Was fun hanging out with the three Kevs. Get the full dim sim crew back next time
Nice to meet you Ned, thanks for the awesome memories… I’m sure we’ll meet again!
Sick ride ❤
Cheers!
hi, is frame a medium? and your height? just for reference. tia
Hi mate I’m 174cm tall, yes medium frame.
Video never does justice to those first three corners on this track. I still get nervous on that first 90 degree left turn into the roots haha...
Yep it’s definitely a tricky turn! Great trail :)
Wicked! One day, one day...
Is this a public holiday? Why's it so busy?
It was just a usual Saturday
Nice vid mate.
Cheers mate!
Could I ask which way did you take from OMV to H2O? I've only ever been using Valley Road then into the bush and hike a bike. But it looks like you use mostly roads along the back of houses...didn't even know there was another way to get there :)
Hi thanks for your message! I can’t remember the route tbh as we were being led by a mate…. But no “hike a bike” involved and was mainly backstreets/side paths…. Probably best to check Google maps.
Noice!..and 1st 🤒
Cheers! Has been a while ;-)
Where did you park?
At the end of Spicer rd?
Between Morgan Rd and Oxford Falls road, the carpark is near a nursery… entry to the trail is via “Torn” trail.
Thanks for sharing this vid. You guys have lots of fun!! Where can I find these trails? Cant see the names in Trailforks
This one is end of Blue Ridge crescent in Berowra
You included two of my fav trails Flux and BB, do you like these trails?
First time I’d actually seen the second half of flux and BB, too gnarly for me to enjoy 😂 but they are awesome trails… BB would be so much fun if you can nail all the features 💪
I've been wanting to try the features at loamsville but your case has made me reconsider 😂
Hahaha don’t let that put you off 🤭 definitely give it a go, I think following someone in who I don’t normally ride with was a distraction
Nice ride❤
Cheers!
Lennys is pretty bad at the bottom at the moment. Nice riding 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Yeah haven’t ridden it for 2 years, don’t remember it being that raw!
@@kevomtb3542 Not much love given to the trails in that section of Oxy F. Fireline is running well. Coco Pops is pretty well not worth riding

Yo, so sick riding with you guys. Loved the session!

It was so much fun riding with you guys!
Nice to meet you @DylanNockolds and Luke, well done on nailing those jumps at Double B 💪and thanks for showing us the trail!!🤙
Yeww so much fun
Epic ride, great idea and thanks for the navigating CK!!
Great review and video. What is your height? Sounds like S3 feels right for you?
Thanks much appreciated! I’m 174cm… S3 would have been a better size for me, however swapping out the 50mm stem for a 35mm made a big difference.
Enjoyed the ride. 25kmh is garbage. At least here in the USA they come 20 mph which is about 32 if I do the math correctly. I'd get a derestricter so fast.
Yeh heard it’s less restricted over there, and NZ is 30km/h I believe… and derestricted altogether is approx 45-50km/h!!
Man that is some good old footage! I had just finished making mini moo when this was filmed! Amazing to see your progression!
Hahaa cheers… vintage gold 🤣 did you build the mini moo section? Be great if there was a little more sections like it at Westleigh!! I think it was another couple of weeks after this vid that I tried it myself for the first time.
@@kevomtb3542 Yeah built it soon after they closed the Moo at St Ives Chase back in the day. You can see us testing the drop here... th-cam.com/video/vi98VToJ1RM/w-d-xo.html (4:52) still had grass on the trail. Yeah we found a few other lines to build but council acquired the land from the water board and asked all the building to stop.
@@juicemooseman nice one… now the name Mini moo finally makes sense to me!
sweet!
🍻
Gnarly trails well done boys
Cheers mate!
wow, the track is really extreme, bro
Yep it’s quite chunky and definitely keeps you on your toes!
Yea I got an S4 too at 173cm, really wish I got the S3, find it really hard to get my weight in the right spot during cornering. Also the 25kph limiter, I got a planet3 derestricter, and has been flawless for 1500kms, totally undetectable and easily removed.
I’ve bought a shorter 33mm stem, waiting for it to arrive so hopefully that helps. Thanks for the recommendation for the derestricter, it’s on the consideration list :)
I'm 173 cm and got an s3 without test riding. It still feels big and bulky but I am coming from a 26' bike.
@@danzomon5853 wow yes that would be a huge difference, any modern MTB would probably feel like a boat in comparison… let us know how its feel after a couple of months!
@@kevomtb3542 had it for a year now. Secured it during lockdown to help me cope haha! Should have waited to get comp carbon as I've upgraded the brakes..stem and was told last week that the x2 shock is subject to air leaks so will probably get a shock. Oh and the wheels have buckled...so will need to replace them too. Rovals are made of cheese..goddamit
@@danzomon5853 oh wow, and you’re still finding the size too big?! So you got the comp alloy? Haven’t heard of any issues with the x2… but yeh if you’re going to upgrade to coil or your own choice of forks then comp carbon is the way to go. I’m happy with the Fox 38/x2 combo working well for me. Yeh, I’ve already dinged my rear wheel, gonna invest in some carbon rims soon… but mullet is annoying, lack of choice with wheelsets for a reasonable price.
Btw...I felt exactly the same on a hot day.. you don't realise your dehydrated until it's too late... always best to just keep sipping
Yeh I asked Alex if he wanted to skip Powerlines, but he thought he had plenty in the tank after Bunnings.. amazing how fast the heat takes effect!
Nice vid mate... bunnings has certainly changed since the storms earlier this year.... the chute on powerlines is full on.. once your in it... your in it!😁
Cheers, has definitely got a bit chunkier in a lot of places!
Song choice👌
Ebikers anthem possibly
Great video. Definitely will have to check out that trail. My in-laws live at Windermere Park by the lake. Nice n close 👍🏼
Thanks mate! Yeah it has definitely become one of my favourite trails… so fast and flowy!
what made you choose the s4 as you mentioned your height and said your usually a medium, im a touch taller than you (178) and ride medium as well. They size me at an s3 online
I decided to go s4, as they only had s3 in the matte maroon at the time (which I didn’t want), plus I was curious to see if sizing up would suit my riding style as a medium Santa Cruz felt a tad small on some occasions riding steeper terrain. S4 is supposed to be suitable for riders 173cm-185cm tall so you’d actually be right in the middle at 178cm tall… if you’re used to riding a medium and find that comfortable, then stick with an S3.
How are you finding the S4 size? I'm looking at a Levo as well and could go either way on the sizing at 175cm tall. I did a parking lot spin and the S3 felt good, but then so did the S4!
Hey mate, I normally ride a medium and am “adapting” to the large. My advice is stick to what you’re used to riding, 95% of the time the size won’t matter though as both feel comfortable, but I’d slightly probably have preferred an s3 as I normally ride a medium… i find it harder to get the weight down on the front when cornering with the s4 and it’s a looong bike anyway so s3 would be stable enough. If you normally ride a large go with the s4, hope this helps!!
Bumped into you recently during a weekday ride in Cherrybrook! Glad you are enjoying the bike. Not sure but heard a rattle on some of the chatter especially on the pool downhill - i had a similar sound which turned out to be an issue with the Fox 38 - fixed under warranty thanks to Cyclesport. Hope to see you around the trails.
Hey James! Was nice to meet you the other week :D yeh that rattle has been bugging me… thought it might be the cables but thanks for letting me know it could be the forks; hard to pinpoint these things but will keep an ear out, cheers! Thanks for your message, will defo be happy to do a few laps with you somewhere.
Nice one Kev..what's an S works like yours cost?..I'd be interested to know what the specs are..btw 1st 🤓
Thanks mate, mine is the Gen 3 Levo Expert, CK is riding a Gen 2 S-Works… I believe the new Gen 3 S-Works Levo are around $25k new 🤑
Thank you for the great video. I recently purchased a 2022 Turbo Levo Comp Alloy and love it. In your video it looked like you had an engine protector mounted on your bottom bracket? If so can you comment on if it’s any good and where you got it? Thks
Hi mate thanks for your message, yes got the bash guard online for 60 pounds + shipping to Aus. Totally worth it, have already hit it on a rock 2nd ride after installation. Visit “Protect E-MTB” online, they have Specialized specific guards 👍
What’s wrong is that the shop that sold the bike didn’t tell you about the 25km/h
Hi! All good, I already knew before actually just it wasn’t forefront of my mind until I rode the bike on that occasion, I didn’t even know I was hitting 25km/h at the time as I wasn’t looking down at the speedo. It’s just a legality here in Aus and wouldn’t have changed my mind about the bike purchase at all, cheers!
Welcome to the E-bike world 😀👋🤘What you will find is that when you reach 25/26 km/h motor assistance stops due to speed limited as per ADR, you now have to pedal through the motor hence the heavy resistance. You'll work out your own riding technique at that speed, the right gear choice etc. Get out on a flat fire trail & muck around feeling the motor kicking in & out.
Thanks mate! Yeh didn’t really notice it on the first couple of rides including riding one for 3 hours at Falls Creek, so thought it was strange that I only noticed it on my local trail. I think riding in a lighter gear will definitely help which I have to learn to change into before any potential climbs around 25km/h
Lol engine brake, your leg power completely gone already?
Pedalling a 22.7kg bike uphill with your own legs ain’t much fun 😂
Teach me how to ball so jelly
Camp less, ride more 😅
Nice one mate !

So much banter from me lol
So chatty for what? You need to attach a little basket on your handlebars so we can throw some coins in for each joke 😂
I think you crazy kids need to check out the new trail at n arra called "Death Adder" 😁
