I started using vitamin c daily on my face, just because it feels good. I noticed after about a year or so all my hyperpigmentation was gone :)
What kind do u use?
@@mosmotivation1223 whichever I can find, just as long as it's cruelty free, that's my only condition. But, I am regular with it, and I wear sunscreen if I go outside.
Yes what kind please?
@@mosmotivation1223 Try Timeless if you don’t have sensitive skin and start with the 10% not the 20%. It’s one of the best (if not the best) from the affordable ones. It is l-ascorbic vitamin C, which is the purest active form of vitamin c, so if you have sensitive skin you might want to go with a vitamin C derivative. Goodal Vit-c serum and Skin&lab Vitamin c brightening serum are good alternatives for sensitive skin. The key to fading those spots is patience. It takes time and consistency to see the results. Also, use sunscreen and reapply every two hours if you are outside, more if you sweat.
I've been using The Ordinary Vit C for years and mine is still there. I would also like to know your brand please
I managed to remove age spots at home with IPL, dermaplaning, Vitamin C & Alpha Arbutin, Retinol, SPF 50. I hit them hard from all angles. It has taken 6 months but I did it ❤
Could you tell products you used
@@chosenandblessed9040 really not about brands just follow a multi approach consistently. Very affordable products
Me too. Also LED red light and azalaic acid. I throw everything at my brown spots. Hate hydroquinone tho.
@@primordialmeow7249 hydroquinone is banned in UK so not an option. Consistency is key. We have to throw everything at them don’t we ❤️ me red light too
@@primordialmeow7249I hate chemicals period. I see vid s saying to use cod lvr oil. 😮😮awful stinky stuff.
I had a pico laser treatment in Thailand and it's the only thing that has worked for me. It didn't get rid of the sun spots, but it lightened them enough that they are easier to hide with make up. Will get a couple more treatments when I'm back there in a few months. It costs five times as much in Canada!
Dr. Youn, your skin is beautiful!
Ikr :D
I use kojic acid bar soap for washing my face, and apply moisturizer with 5% niacinamide & vit C in it after. Wear lots of sunscreen everyday. It works amazingly. Wear clay mask or retinol before bed once-twice a week, less acne.
And avoid sugar as much as I can.
Do you use kojic acid soap daily? I ised it daily my skin is so dry and flaky, how to use it properly 😅
@@ss-wz6hm yup, twice a day, in the morning and at night before sleep. I put on moisturizer right after when my skin still damp (I never dry my face with towel or anything after I wash my face, I let it dry naturally). And to be noted, I have oily skin type and I live in a tropical country. I wouldn't recommend using bar soap if you have a dry skin type.
@royalcheese665 thank u so much, i have combination skin and i live in hot weather country which is an island, that's why iam asking
How much time did it take for the spots to dissappear? Also does it help with acne too?
@@ss-wz6hmtry castor oil
1. Use good skin brightening cream - Hydroquinone
2. Exfoliate
3. Use Vit C Serum & add Retinoid
4. Use moisturizer with sun screen OR
5. IPL OR BBL Treatment... no not that one!!

Omg thank you for this, I’ve been looking for a summary!
Thank you so much, I wasn't sure how to spell Hydroquinone.
@@amanda69we don,t care. We know what u mean. Spell ck does not have all huh?
He mentioned Kojic cream too.. thanks for the brief info..
I went to my dermatologist and gave me ViDerm and it’s done amazing! 🤩 now I’m on vitamin C, retinol, Korean Snail serum, bukochoi as you suggested.
Thank you for the summary and taking the confusion out of products.
I was told that my zillion lentignes are secondary to my lifelong B12 deficiency. Correcting the B12 problem (after I wound up in the ER with neurological symptoms) and laser has improved it greatly.
Thank you for your honesty in sharing your wisdom 🙏🏼 ❤😊
Your skin is looking great doc, glowing
the best thing i ever did was starting to use sunscreen every single day + actually taking precautions from the sun with UV blocking long sleeved clothes or just staying out of the sun in peak hours. those + alpha arbutin (in a niacin toner by good molecules) + tranexemic acid (discoloration serum by good mol.) are preventing AND fixing prior hyperpigmentation. kojic acid is also fantastic but you have to be consistent
Kojic acid was too strong for me
You have the most beautiful looking skin! ❤
Thank you so much Dr...so honestly and with lots of effort you gave smallest details of problem as well as treatment..God bless you
I’m having my third of three light treatments at my med spa next week, I’ve been thrilled with the results in getting rid of age spots! I’ll maintain with topical vitamin C and tretinoin.
It's not just the sun. I believe, it's health... Food, gut health, etc...
Omg he has amazing skin - wow
Lots of good information, thank you.
Very informative, thank you!
Thanks for the clear information!
Loving your work - thank you..
Thank you for sharing your expertice , i have pigmentation /age spots too
Thank you for this video! It is very helpful and I appreciate it!
Thank you for getting to the point. Very much appreciate it.
Thank you for sharing your expertise with us. I had hyperpigmentation show up really suddenly after starting a new antidepressant. I tried just about everything that I could find over the counter and the results were pretty limited. I was pleasantly surprised when I was finally able to get botox for chronic migraine and within a week the hyperpigmentation was basically gone (or at least like 90% gone). Definitely doesn't qualify as holistic, but I'm really happy with the resulting decrease in headaches and dark spots.

I was battling with Melasma, I got rid of it by cutting sugar from the diet.
Just processed? Or did u cut on natural sweeteners or fruits?

You are correct Dr. that would be my case. I literally lived at the beach and on a boat in my younger years and decades later is when I'm getting spots thank you so much for this video. I don't have many they are on my arms mainly and one of my forehead.
I drove from the midwest to the East coast and have a sunburn neklace! I have purchased Vit C 20% serum. Pray it works quickly cos it drives me nuts!!
I've had some success over last 10 weeks with age spots on my face esp on nose with castor oil , I made a poltice type bandage over the oil on my nose each morning and night and rubbed some in face before sleep , amazing results really❤
How do you make a poltice
I need to try this on my Malasma on my face and my hypopigmentation on chest and see what happens 😅
Less stinky than cod lvr. 😅
Awesome Thank you! Love your video
If you’re asian with olive skin stay away from IPL. My sister and I had great results with our first couple of treatments. Basically your dark spots get crispy and fall off like scabs but return after a few months. After our third treatments (they increase the intensity of your treatments), we noticed patches of dark spots appearing where there were none before. It’s been a couple of years and the new dark spots (patches) caused by IPL are still there. Surprisingly my original dark spots have faded, almost disappearing completely. I’ve been using various brightening serums but the key was adding a glycolic peel mask to my weekly routine.
Do u use an at home peel? If so, which brand?
Please share your routine and the name of peel
I hate IPL. I was thinking to try pico laser
probably spots from deeper layers of skin came to surface.
anyway try Azelaic acid apart from aha
I believe you...thanks! Im asian and use retin-A and Vitamic with peptides. Also a gel called " out of sight" dark spot gel. Im gonna add the gycolic peel mask
Hi Dr.. excellent !!
I am going to watch this without fail. thank you u u u u...
Thank You, great video. What about home IPL devices?
ASIANS- Be cautious and research if you’re thinking of getting IPL treatments
I was happy with my first 2 treatments but then after my 3rd treatment some new spots showed up and some spots that were already there got darker. Maybe if I continued having treatments the spots might have eventually gotten lighter but that would take time and a lot of money. So I was left with my skin looking worse than before I had the IPLs! Fraxel laser treatment is another treatment I would pass on. Generally speaking Asians and other darker skinned people are more at risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation after laser treatments. I wish I knew this before my treatments
I’m Asian and had 2 sessions of IPL done. I have a fair skin but the IPL worsen my dark spots. My dermatologist was honest enough to tell me that Asian skin are hard to treat with skin hyperpigmentation. He prescribed me tretinoin 0.05% but the result took years to clear.
Same thing happened to me too :(

I started to get melasma in my early 30s after being prescribed anti depressants. It’s improved in my 40s but never really went away.
I started using lanolin (nipple cream) and my dark eye circles were reduced by 90% within 5 days. I am able to go make up free now. I used ALL of the hyperpigmentation treatments with no noticeable improvement. Lasers, hydroquinone, niacinimide, glycolic acid (laroche's - this seemed to do a little something), vitamin c, retinoid, and multiple eye creams. I was on a 6 month struggle bus trying to treat this. I ordered nipple cream for lips and decided to see if putting it on my dark eye circles and hyperpigmented smile lines would work. I woke up the next morning and had a 60% reduction. By the end of the week, I had a 90% reduction in the dark eye circles. The dark smile line is completely gone on 1 side of my face.
I've had dark eye circles my entire life. I have baby pictures with dark eye circles!!! 😂😂😂
I have no idea why the nipple cream worked but praise be! Instant success.
Lanolin! Gonna give this a try.😊
Really ? Ok will try it too

I use his products and I noticed by using a razor to remove the peach fuzz from my face so my makeup sits on the skin and not on my peach fuzz, my age spots have faded because like the dr said, removing the upper layer of skin helps the age spot removing agent work by getting to the spot easier.
I recently purchased a Kenzzi with the hyperpigmentation attachment. I also just purchased your products today. I hope using them together will help with my hyperpigmentation.
Update 👀
Have you seen any improvements
I've learned that doing too many kinds of exfoliating treatments on your face is never good for your delicated skin. It only makes your skin thinner and become more sensitive to UV light, especially for Asian olive skin
I agree!
Just use one time a week will be fine
My dermatologist put me on a serum from the Skin Ceuticals brand. It contains another safe skin lightener called Ferulic Acid. Excellent product!! You can’t tell I ever had melasma! Seriously!!!
Whats d name exactly
Whats the name?
My aunt had dark hyperpigmentation in her 60's and she didn't do anything...it magically disappear when she's 72. She said it is kinda weird that it went away on its own.
Mine are lightening. Got them late 50s I'm early 60s
Could be she changed her diet. Junk food does affect your organs, and your skin is your largest organ. By eating better, your skin can look better.
Thank you so very much 🙏
Thank you for the advice and information Dr. Youn!
Hello I always enjoy your posts. I have read a few articles suggesting IPL makes Malasma worse and stimulates hyperpigmentation? I have a mixture of both presenting during perimenopause and now menopause . I was wondering if you would create a clip in the future targeting this and how to better transition your skin care during these changes 😊
I would love to learn about this as well. As a person of color, I have been told lasers were off limits for melasma. I would love to know if there is a safe one.
The biggest skincare mistake I made was getting IPLs. It made my hyperpigmentation worse
Thanks Doc 👍

i'm asian with fairly light skin (singaporean). i recently tried pico laser in clinics. especially after the 2nd treatment, i can see the results very well and it is also highly effective on dark skin tone individuals. but it is quite costly.. full treatment is close to 5k sgd so im trying out facial products first, a long yet cheaper alternative
Pico laser treatment worsened my melasma and it became so large

I had malasma, dermatologist did a glycolic peel and the patch strpped off in one week. It was an emotional experience, my face is now clean..I struggled with this for years.
I have pigmentation on my face but it only looks hideous when my face gets too tanned oe a bit sunburnt. So i make sure to try keep my face out the sun as much as possible and that had been quite effective so far (i work outdoors in a warm climate. So its lots of sunblock and hats and trying to get out the midday sun). Thanks for the great vids
Put a pretty sticker on it .
I’m 56 next month. I have melasma everywhere on my face and I am pacific island but have fair skin but now looks patchy and it’s annoying. No foundation can hide it. They say it’s hereditary but this is untrue. My mum and sister don’t have any malasma, not even the tiniest spot! I’m so desperate to get rid of it.
I used the over the counter hydroquinone on my hand that has lots of brown spots, and the spots stayed brown, and the regular color skin lightened up!!
Castor oil also works!! Since i started using castor oil on my scar & face, i started noticing my facial wrinkles were disappearing? Oh wow!!
really i started w oils but not castor and im so depress i got tired of skincare
I’ve started on castor oil. It’s week 3 now. I am very acne prone. Skin clear. Hyperpigmentation looks brighter, under eyes look lighter. This is my miracle oil now. Will never use expensive creams again.
Do you use cold pressed or black seed?
Thank you.

I'm surprised you didn’t mention azelaic acid too. I've read the prescription strength can be very helpful for some.
Azaleic acid is great, and works VERY well with tretinoin.
My mother used to say, "When you get old, your skin sprouts weeds." Now I'm at that age and boy, she was right! It seems lately every day is a new surprise. As an adult, I've always avoided the sun, but like you mentioned, I was in the sun a lot as a child and it's showing. I'm light skinned but have a quarter-sized melasma right in the middle of my forehead which embarrasses me so much. I was thinking maybe a light colored tattoo would work if nothing else would, though I first have to win the lottery even for that. Thank you so much, Dr. Youn, for your very interesting information!
I found this serum called the Princess Skin Brightening & Rejuvenating Serum
treatment and this lady used it in conjunction with her hyperpigmentation routine for melasma. I was on reddit forums for melasma and a lady recommended it. It's freaking amazing, no irritation or smell. I love it. She said it helps lighten it up her melasma alot.
I Did that on my hand for the worst one . Face,no! Temporary yeah.
Consider wearing bangs.
Just learn that I have melasma not age spots… good information!
Which one is harder to get rid of?
What’s the difference

I agree that sun spots are from those younger years where people were baking themselves in the sun by the pool.
My sister did that and she’s a few years younger but now has so many spots that I don’t have.
I have always gotten only minimal sun exposure plus I always wear a large brim hat when outdoors.
I have melasma on my forehead and across my nose and cheeks from pregnancy that has darkened due to minor sun exposure in day to day life.

Be very careful with IPL treatments!!! I did two rounds of IPL and my melasma increased tremendously in places I didn’t have them before! Two years later and I’m still dealing with the horrible outcome of IPL treatment. 😥
I agree with u.

Can you expand on the products you mentioned? which ones for morning, which ones for evening? In which order?
He forgot to mention an important thing which is on top of using creams or other treatments to brighten your skin, you must use sunscreen at all time, whether it is sunny or it rains. Sunscreen is the key to protect your skin and achieve results.
What are your suggestions then for melasma on your face?
How do you get your skin so beautiful?
Hi I really love your channel, I’m 57 I’ve got pigmentation on my cheek bone it’s driving me mad. I’ve heard caster oil is great definitely going to try that.

Hi the caster oil has made a big difference to my skin overall stopping any dryness. I’ve used honey mixed with paprika. Applied that to my face like a mask, that lighted the pigmentation on my right cheek. For sure.
Going back to the caster oil I found applying it to my eyelids made my lines look less obvious and stoped dry eye condition I had and my eyes from running when they got dry in the winter month’s. .
