Herbert Blomstedt ist eine lebende Legende. 96 Jahre alt und immer noch in der Lage, ein Orchester zu großen Höhen zu führen.
Conducted just one month before his 96th birthday 🥳
Maestro Blomstedt is amazing. No theatrics on the podium and just letting the music breathe and speak for itself.
I've come to know -- and love -- Nielsen's Fifth only recently, and this is the performance that introduced me to this great work. Many of Nielsen's works take time, effort, and concentration to understand and appreciate, and the Fifth is indeed a difficult work to take in when one first encounters it. But it is very rewarding indeed! That Maestro Blomstedt has a special regard for Nielsen's Fifth is evident in this wonderful performance. The NDR plays beautifully, with impeccable clarity of sound and with every musician in top form.
I've also listened to Maestro Blomstedt's recording with the San Francisco Symphony, which is also excellent. But, to me, this rendition with the NDR is especially moving in an ineffable way. Thank you NDR, thank you Maestro Blomstedt!
Thank you so much, we are happy to hear this!!
I've come to love and appreciate this symphony in these past few months. Herbert Blomstedt breathes life into his orcheatras. Excellent playing and conducting.
Merci pour ce voyage initiatique en musique...
Wonderful, maestro Blomstedt!
Where Stravinsky ventures deep into the forest, Nielsen assumes the role of wise sage who flies outside watching over the internal chaos that is deep forest.
Thank you for this beautiful and vivid comparison of the two composers.
@@NDRKlassik you are welcome. Just how it sounded to me. I could be wrong. 🙈
It's a wonderful, poetic assessment. I've always found that the music of some Scandinavian composers, particularly Nielsen and Sibelius depict primal, elemental, natural forces at work, from the winds singing in stands of tall, ancient pines and stark, mist-shrouded rocky coastlines. Just so beautiful, especially in the hands of a master like Maestro Blomstedt. So happy to find this in my notifications this morning.
@@verdiguy that was beautiful! Exactly! ❤️❤️
Our pleasure!!
Fine orchestra. Very good string section......
Thank you!!
Never heard the fifth. What a MASTERWORK!!! BRAVO BRAVO BRAVISSIMO!!!
We are pleased that you like our recording! 🌷
Where have you been?!!
Beautiful melodies that sooth the tension in this great symphony. Nielsen should be a household name.
First time I see him seated while conducting….fantastic

❤❤❤
The first time I listened to this piece I didn't really like it. But I remembered it because of the snare drum solo, and for some reason decided to listen to it again. The second time I listened to it I was absolutely blown away by it. Now, it is one of my favorite symphonies ever!
What a nice comment! Thank you for giving it a try!: ))
I second your comment, as I bought the cycle of Nielsen symphonies years ago, and ignored them until recently. The drums stuck with me, and now it's my favourite - along with the 4th!
Brilliant exciting performance.....BRAVI TUTTI from Acapulco!
Thank you very much! Kind regards to Acapulco!
thank you!!!!!!
Our pleasure!!
Nothing but profound gratitude for this! Exemplary production values, orchestra giving their all, great conductor, and Nielsen' s 5th. Cannot ask for more!
0:38 begins | 4:57 drum roll | 5:07 transition to march | 15:50 drum roll | 20:44 2nd movement |
Two giants meet.
It's the same generic review you always "write." Wonderful to see!😂
🤣🤣🤣

Was wollte uns Carl Nielsen mit dieser Sinfonie sagen?🤔
At 96 I think he’s the oldest performing conductor ever lived. Am I wrong?
I think you’re right. He’s now outlasted Stokowski by one year and Skrowaczewski by two.
@@mishibirdAnd Marriner by two.
Has Blomstedt always conducted without a baton?
Maestro Blomstedt is also conducting with baton.
@@NDRKlassik Do you have a clip/link of him doing so?
Yes, of course. You'll find videos of him conducting with the baton, e. g. in this recording: th-cam.com/video/bTdng8p5GLM/w-d-xo.html

@@NDRKlassikThank You! Gosh you guys sound wonderful. But this is in 1996. I was wondering if Herbert found it easier to go batonless as he got older. It's interesting as Otto Klemperer USED one periodically as he got older when he mostly did NOT use one.
Here you can see him rehearsing with the Staatskapelle Dresden in 1969: th-cam.com/video/iZa-QUgs5Oc/w-d-xo.html
A momentous symphony. Up there with the best ever written. But disagree with the placement of the cellos on this occasion.
