Herbert Blomstedt is an absolute treasure to those of us who love music. I don't think I've ever heard a finer performance of the Bruckner. What a magnificent symphony!

Wunderbar zu sehen, wie dieser betagte Dirigent seine ganze Lebensenergie in das Gelingen dieser großen Bruckner-Symphonie lenkt, ohne sich selbst zu schonen. Zu recht hat sich das Publikum erhoben, um seine Hochachtung und Anerkennung auszudrücken. Geradezu rührend, wie herzlich er sich bei seinen Musiker/innen bedankt für ihr hochklassiges und beherztes Spiel. Ein Konzertabend, der das Leben der Besucher/innen gewiss bereichern wird.
Ja!! So geht es uns jedes Mal. wenn wir Herbert Blomstedt erleben dürfen! Ein wahrhaftes Geschenk.

Absolut!! Er transportiert immer noch eine Begeisterungsfähigkeit (abgesehen von all seinen anderen Fähigkeiten ...), die ihresgleichen sucht.
This is just wonderful and it's even more amazing when you remember that Maestro Blomstedt was 92 at the time of the recording.

Truly amazing, you can enjoy yourself at 93? I love his performance of Haydn 67, he was a bit younger then - not that it seems to make any difference.
Great Haydn performance! It really shows how great orchestra sounds with magnificent conductor! So good balance, colour and feeling of true classical master!
For years I was fond of early music specialist interpretations, but if you have great technical abilities combined with imagination and intelligent leader the result is astonishing. Bravo!

Magnífica gala concierto de dos sinfonías de dos célebres compositores austriacos J.Haydn perteneciente al Período Clásico y A. Bruckner de la Época Romántica con matices barrocos. Genial interpretación de la prestigiosa Orquesta Filarmónica NDR con sede en Hamburgo dirigida por el gran maestro Herbert Blomstedt que a sus 93 años todavía está en activo. BRAVO !!!. I wish I were there. But even if I were there, I wish I could get that into my brain. The novelty of live music only partially and briefly opens the channels of attention. I want a direct transcranial infusion of Hydn's Symphony 104!

Vielleicht nicht seh- oder hörbar - aber doch wahrnehmbar, finden wir. Irgendwie entfaltet sich mancher Zauber selbst über elektronische Konserven und soziale Plattformen. ☺️

Ein gutes video gut orchester dirigent
J'ai énormément apprécié le concert. Tout y est : le programme, le fabuleux orchestre, l'interprétation geniale du maestro Blomstedt. Pour mon goût personnel, le sommet est le mouvement lent de la 6eme. C'est une merveille absolue. D'ailleurs Anton en était très fier : la symphonie n'a subi aucune retouche. Et, last but nout least, l'acoustique, la prise de son et l'image sont excellentes.
Hélas, ma santé fragile m'empêche d'alller sur place profiter d'une salle aussi extraordinaire.

Yes!! He's a legend.
Where to begin? Let's enumerate: 1. Haydn, like Blomstedt himself, is persistently underrated and yet consistently amazes in his effortless musicality. 2. The dancefest that is Bruckner 6 is my secret favourite (sorry, 7, 8 & 9!). 3. The Elbphilarmonie's interior takes time to appreciate, but is magnificent, like a dream of Alhambra's marriage to La Sagrada Familia. 4. Given Hamburg's history and tribulations, long live such public institutions - Covid-19 has hopefully reminded us of their value.

Wohltuend, eine wahre Freude diese Haydn-Sinfonie in einer solchen Wiedergabe!
-Musik um der Musik und nicht des eignen Renommees willen!
-eine Filmregie, die ebenfalls im Dienste der musikalischen Interpretation des Dirigenten steht und diese schön zum Ausdruck bringt!
-ein Orchester, das sich seiner edlen Aufgabe bewusst ist, sich ihr differenziert unterordnet und dabei so frisch wirkt, wie wir es wahrscheinlich waren, als wir das Stück mit unserem Mittelschulorchester spielten (ich übrigens an der Seite des späteren langjährigen 1. Flötisten der Wiener Philharmoniker)!
Ebenso Bruckner, in wunderbarer Kombination mit Haydn 104!

He still lives and plays romantic composers I think he can finish with this London symphony anytime (I can see good end from it In reality, looks he will live forever)
Beautiful. Interestingly, I found it difficult to hear the solo woodwinds in this Haydn recording.

Strange comment; it’s not difficult to find live performances of either of these two composers.
I suppose it might depend on where you live.
This concert was just SO musical!
I became aware of Herbert Blomstedt with his excellent recording of Mozart's 39th Symphony with Dresden. That was in 1979 and was the first digital recording I know of (Denon). Here we are 40 years later in this wonderful 2019 performance and the maestro is still going strong. There is something about a life in music that correlates with longevity.

I don’t know what the Elbphilharmonie sounds like in person, but the recorded sound is magnificent (plus it’s beautiful to look at). The orchestra is fabulous and of course Blomstedt has always been one of my favorite conductors, before it was fashionable to revere him like it is today. Thank you for making this video available!

Yes, Blomstedt’s SFS recording of the 6th is probably my favorite Bruckner recording. The Elbphilharmonie sounds fabulous too.
