    Nice! I see you added an in-floor heating system. Very smart. Basement floors are always cold. I like curbless showers myself. Do you plan on a glass door or shower curtain? If shower curtain, it would be wise to have added a second floor drain about 2 feet away for water spray. If glass door, make sure it's inside the drain slope of the shower pan for water drainage. Exhaust fan?

    Question about what I’m seeing. He lays in the drains, covers them with crushed aggregate, then put pink foam board over the top before pouring a mortar bed? Concrete bed? IDK how that would work, because I figured the foam board would compress with that weight and allow cracks in the substrate/tile above it. Your thoughts?

    • @BathroomRemodelingTeacher
      @BathroomRemodelingTeacher  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Most foundations use 2” foam for insulation. The strength is in the concrete

      I'm kind of amazed that I did not see any kind of rebar.

    • @jim5712
      @jim5712 ปีที่แล้ว

      That foam board is dense as hell . The slab over it isnt very heavy at all. They use foam board for that very resson in basements and along foundation walls underground . Im with RS comment on rebar . Im surprised there was none in the floor to begin with and I'm surprised it wasnt underpinned into the slab . That is really surprising .

    No rebar or mesh needed for the concrete in this case? If yes, may I ask why? Thank you.

    • @ohokayofficial
      @ohokayofficial ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Concrete bed is probably only 4” in depth so rebar most likely wouldn’t be needed in this situation anyways right?
      Around plumbing, it is better to bury piping under the dirt-rather than spacing rebar off of pipes.
      Rebar would be better for a concrete slab that is going to be put thru tension or if the span of concrete slab is being strengthened for support points

    • @sevendust07660
      @sevendust07660 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      By dowels, you mean drill in the existing concrete use epoxy to place the rebar and then pour so new is tied to existing?

    • @ohokayofficial
      @ohokayofficial ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sevendust07660 I just personally wouldn’t see the reason for rebar on concrete slab underneath a shower floor. Especially if it’s under 5” depth
      If you can't end up with re-bar sticking out of the old slab, you'll need to drill the old slab and install some re-bar pins to connect to. There are epoxies you can use, like you’re saying! 🙌🏽
      I’m a tile apprentice, so I am still early in my learning-which also may mean I am incorrect haha
