    Some feedback: I really like your tutorials. I can hear what you are saying clearly, your editing is helpful w pointing to Unity menus/options, etc., you call out where one can go wrong, the video pacing is good and you call out the order things need to be done. I could go on but I just wanted to say how much I appreciate your help navigating the shifting sands of the Unity XR support/features. 🙏🏽

    As a recent graduate working in architecture and an avid gamer, I’m so glad people like you exist on TH-cam to help me try my hand out at game development. I recently even bought both AutoHand and HurricaneVR bundle to get to work, so I’m really looking forward to those videos coming up. Haha you’re so helpful at this point I might just hire you to do coding while I take care of the visuals, bet we could make a good game together with some determination. Thanks for the videos!

    Some general feedback: This sort of video is ideal imo. I'd love to see more Quest 2 specific videos. Now that Oculus has released their interaction sdk in the oculus integration package we're able to do some really nice stuff with the hand tracking functionality. Would love to see more on that, but it's just what I've been working on recently.

    13:55, In the build settings how do you change it to have the run device find your Oculus? I also selected the other option to find all compatible devices still couldn't find the oculus it is connected to the PC.

    • @styxrakash4639
      @styxrakash4639 ปีที่แล้ว

      The oculus needs to be physically connected via a cable to your PC and MUST be in developer mode. Additionally when you first plug in the cable (may have to re-try this) you'll be prompted INSIDE THE HEADSET if you wish to allow file sharing with "The device XYZ such and such" etc etc (this is your PC, obviously) you say yes to that. THEN it will show up as a possible build device. No way of getting around any of that ^^^^ you gotta do it

    Hi for the PCVR section, would the Quality settings still be the same as the ones you showed for the Quest standalone build? Also in the Quality Settings for the Asset i notice you didn't have any chosen, other tutorial i've seen choose one and they choose the URPBalanced one and for stand alone Quest apps, set it to not use Post processing saying that Post processing does not work well with Quest. They also say to disable SSAO. But those were tutorials for Quest standalone. How about for PCVR. For PCVR should we disabled these too? Then they also talk about settingsin the URPBalanced asset and how you need to a) Disabled terrain holes b) Disalbed HDR c) Setting antiaalising to 4x d) Disabled soft shadows. For PCVR, you dont mention any of this but should we do not do this, since in that tutorial it was for creating Quest standalone games. Thanks if you read this

  • @themisfitgamer
    @themisfitgamer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    You said at the start you were going to open a 3D URP project, but you opened a standard 3D project by mistake. Some of the settings on the Player tab are slightly different and will throw some warnings that you need to resolve an incompatibility between the color space and current settings, but this is solved by changing color space in player settings to Linear -> removing OpenGLES2 as you suggest later on anyway. Does anything else need changing for the best performance if specifically using URP for a Quest build? I noticed the quality options are completely different

    • @JustinPBarnett
      @JustinPBarnett  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh whoops! You should still be able to change the same quality settings, you'll just instead need to use the scriptable objects generated by the pipeline instead of directly through the project settings

      Like for link mode? There should just be a button in your menu after you plug into your pc

    23:24 BackUpThisFolder_ButDoNotShip ... i wonder why unity gives it that name. Maybe they want you to not ship this folder but only the other folders/files ;)

    Hi
    I currently develop standalone PC VR based apps using Unity with the HTC Vive.
    These are not publicly commercialised they are specialised developments and demand high graphic performance (heavy scenes).
    I am looking to start developing on the Oculus quest 2 and was hoping to take advantage of the PCVR tethered mode, using a link Cable to a VR ready PC.
    MY QUESTION:
    Can the Quest 2 truly take advantage of using the PC performance in order to get visual performance similar to the HTC Vive performance in this configuration?
    I see plenty of information about using Steam based games (PCVR esque) BUT that is not really what I want to do. My builds are standalone, currently .exe PC based VR applications for learning/training.
    I am just trying to determine the performance & limitations of the the Quest for such relating to GPU/CPU use and how it would compare to the HTC Vive builds.
    There does not seem to be a clear document that addresses these specifics from a developers point of view, but plenty info for the end user which even does not make it fully clear.
    Ideally I would have smaller graphical scale APK's for Quest 2 in standalone mode. And the option to also use the Quest 2 tethered to my PC to gain the added performance IF that's how it works??
    Appreciate anyone's feedback!
    TY
    A

    Hi. I followed your step to build our VR game for our thesis. But I have some problem. In the edit mode in unity it run fast and smooth. But when I build the game and run it in my quest 2 it turn so laggy.
    Can you help me in my problem. Thankyou so much.

    I just want to say thank you for this tutorial. I just got an iMac and im trying to learn how to use unity with it. Do you think it’s smart to buy all the accessories so I can build use cases and logic for the game. The haptic suit and treadmill are the top two I’m referring too

      I think 95% of your customer base (assuming you're building some sort of game) won't have accessories to use, so I'd focus my efforts on making it a fun game without those things. But if you have some free time adding those will definitely increase the appeal!

    Hello. Great video, and thought I was GTG, got all the way to where you confirm your settings and hit build and run..... Unfortunately, the "Build and Run " is greyed out... Everything else looks good. Any ideas? Setting it up for the Quest 2. Just saw that I have a consoler error, the .cfg could not be loaded. Thank you!

      maybe it's not the correct answer, any way I try.
      The only moment for me when the "build and run" is gray is when tehe button right on the left is "switch ..." instead of "build".
      IF this is the case, you must click on swtch... and then the build and run will be available.

    It works,but a little bit laggy just like 24-30fps, how to make it smoothly?
    edit : I've done this in Unity 2020.23 does it have same result or 2020 one not less than 60hz aka little bit lag

    Hi, all your videos is really valuable for information. I just create a socket interactor to store object and I would like to ask you how can I add more objects of the same type and how I can resize it to fit inside that socket interactor instead of just one object because I would like to use it as an inventory, I couldn't find any videos with that information.Thanks.

    I see you do not specify a render pipeline asset. Do you build using the default built in pipeline and avoid URP/URP-HighFidelity?

    • @styxrakash4639

      I'd say swing for the fences and stick with URP. Having those tools and features AVAILIBLE while making the game isn't going to slow it down any, its up to the optimization of your code and graphical assets. I say this because a ton of assets on the unity store are geared towards URP. No need to lock yourself out of that

    ❌ Great tutorial but I am getting errors in the console when I build.
    CommandInvokationFailure: Gradle build failed.
    Execution failed for task ':launcher:packageRelease'.
