Worked like a charm for my setup: Unity 2022.3.20f1, M1 Pro Macbook, Quest 2. Hopefully Unreal Engine can support Mac + Quest 2 in the future. Still couldn't get that working
My dev environment was completely corrupted and this video helped me to start again with a "fresh" version without bothering of too much dependencies, thank you very much!
OMG I'm in!!! Running the XR demo scene successfully, I'm so excited. I am now going to just build on this with a couple script mods for proof of concept, but I'm very thankful for this walkthrough. I'm on a Mac which added some challenges but for the most part was able to stop/pause/repeat where necessary and get it up and running. The opportunities are endless now. :) Thank you!
Thanks for this! There are two inconsistencies in the video that I would like clarification on: 1- @6:53, you skip over the actual clicking on an option. Later it is clear that you clicked OpenXR. 2- Why did you click OpenXR instead of the otherwise obvious Oculus? Thanks!
Thank you so much! This should be the official documentation haha. The only issue I ran into was it was not building for my Quest 2 and I realized I was using Unity 2022, but I updated it to 2021.3.30f1 and it worked.
Feb 2024 - this video was the only one that worked for me! other problem I had tho was that oculus would stream through steamvr and not through oculus link so had to set the default runtime in the oculus desktop app settings
Best Video to start with Unity and VR (Ouest) development, thank you so much! I would love to see more videos getting a little bit deeper how to interact with object, improve settings for better Quality on quest and so on..
@@RobShocks its going great, i like this XR toolkit so much! Are you aware of any way to access the Camera Feed to make mixed reality or even Augmented reality with meta cams? I would love to mix these features of the meta headset but still stay on the perfectly working XR toolkit :)
How did you build and run since whenever I build and run it just stops and doesn’t say anything which doesn’t download anything to my files, I am on Mac.
Simple, Clear and Working! It was really easy understanding what things are needed to setup the bare minimum project! Looking forward for more such videos! Thank you so much for this!
Amazing tutorial, we need more of this series. Extremely easy and understandable, also love the use of assets, too many tutorials got me setting up EVERYTHING FROM SCRATCH, and it really confuses newcomers.
Is it possible to change the graphics even when you've already started the game development? For example if I've started working on a shooting game but it's looks off brand and I finish it, is it possible to make it look realistic or would I have to do that in the beginning before I start adding in other things to the game such as the environment, guns, food and water, etc.
Oculus Quest 2 is not shown in the drop-down menu under 'Run Device' in the build settings, even after connecting it to a Mac using a charging cable. The device is only charging when connected to Mac. Can you tell me if there is anything else that needs to be installed?I completely followed your steps in this video.
I had the same Problem, i had to go back to the meta developer portal confirm all new Agreements and enable the developer mode in the meta quest App again, maybe it helps you also.. There is no Special driver or so necessary on mac, maybe also a better / other cable helps.
Hi ! I wonder if I got the Unity without the Andriod SDK. Can I still run the air link from mac as well ? Right now I can not install the android to my unity 2023 on m2 mac. I am not sure what to do. Thanks
I have a mobile app in the App Store and in Google Play. Now, I want to port that app to Oculus Quest. I came across this tutorial and I'm hoping it will be a great primer on "how to get started". Thanks! Unfortunately, there is no 3D (URP) template when I use your tutorial version on Mac. Was it pulled? Did it not apply to a Mac? I'm a moron...lol There is a "Universal 3D" and URP stands for "Universal Render Pipeline". Complete, 100% rookie here!
@@RobShocks Thanks. I followed your tutorial completely and everything turned out perfectly! Now, I have to wait for the Link cable I ordered from Amazon in order to deploy it. Even though most of my life I was a Windows guy, I code on a Mac because my mobile app started on IOS. Coding in Unity using C# is like "going home again". I'm hoping I'll be able to deploy and debug wirelessly using ADB, but I won't know until I get the cable. I'm also going to see if it will work using Parallels on the Macbook. I'm an "old guy"; I've been coding since Moby Dick was a minnow. I'm amazed by the VR apps that folks are producing and the ease at which you seem to do it. Do you have any reference suggestions (e.g. good books?). I've subscribed to your channel and fully expect I will end up watching every video you've ever posted, but I really need something that gets to the "basics" - things like controlling the camera, the lighting, creating custom assets, etc. Thanks again for posting this.
This tutorial is just great! Everything worked, everything explained to an exactly needed level of detail for a beginner, no more and no less. Perfect place to start connecting the gear and uploading first scenes. Thank you very much! The only problem I ran into was that once we switched to the new polygon scene, I always seem to see the same portion of the scene - the head tracking doesn't seem to work... To be honest, I think I have a different version of the XR Interaction Toolkit, and there is only XR Origin, no Complete XR Origin setup, maybe that is the reason?
@@RobShocks My plan is to work on an immersive auditory experience, in which you explore the music and parts of the story through your interaction with the world... Still not very concrete, I plan to start playing with it as soon as I get the basics down :)

Hello ! Need some support? When I build and run, the unity icon shows up in my quest 3 but when opened it doesn't run anything and I'm just in the normal passthrough mode without being able to see the Sample scene Any guidance is appreciated
Hmm, on Quest Pro my controllers aren't working. I tried using your method, I tried targeting the pro controllers. No dice. One thing that is odd, despite seeing my controllers up until I hit the play/run button in Unity the Meta Quest Developer Hub says both controllers are disconnected. No matter what I do that thing never says it sees the controllers. I see the controllers just fine in other PCVR/QuestLink games.
I don't have a Pro so I can't recreate this unfortunately. Are you experiencing the same issue when you use OpenXR vs the Oclulus settings. I'd work back to the simplest setting and work up from there.
a silly question but whenever I build a file and go to my Oculus apps I cannot see them. Is there anything I may be msising? I'm using a mac and a normal USB 3 cable. I have a scene I built about a month ago, that one's popping up on my headset but can't make appear anything new there.
Was it the same setup you used a few months ago. Has the cable changed. Could you start by updating the older app and seeing if that works. THat might indicate a change in settings. Make sure on Mac you are seeing the Quest in the build dropdown before deploying also
