    Maybe Lord Harkon just bought some merch from the newly opened Mythic Dawn Museum!

    • @pisscvre69
      @pisscvre69 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Harkon May have power from Molag Bal but that doesn’t mean he has his favor just that he once did, so I think it’s quite possible he was with the mythic dawn as he would see the instability of a new mythic age as an opertunity to gain more power than he ever could otherwise,
      that or in that particular case Molag Bal could have wanted him to help the mythic dawn cuz a new mythic age opens Tamriel up to all of Oblvion not just Dagons realm, and Molag ball is being the lord of domination, obsessed with the goal of taking over Tamriel, why he only tried once (the plane meld) is really confusing honestly and we can only assume he must have often had more descrete ways of attempting to take it over or maybe he’s aware that if he takes it all he’ll no longer have new things to dominate so he lets it be overall free so he can continue to get an endless supply of new mortal souls to torture, even if that’s the case the temptation of a new mythic age would likely be to good for him to resist so it’s possible he instructed Harkon to help the mythic dawn.
      That or if he and or Harkon was against the mythic dawn it could as he said in the video just be a trophy, perhaps he had a lot of fun killing mythic dawn members and likes to look back on it and fondly remeber, maybe he even got away with being disguised as some sort of heroic stranger who wants to help fight the Oblvion crisis and enjoyed being praised by the public for killing tons of people for once before mysteriously disappearing ie going back to his vampire life,
      Either way I hope it was more than bethesda going “yeah seems good and edgy let’s do that”

    One thing I've as a Norwegian always found slightly amusing about Rune is that when you talk to him, you tell him that he has a very unusual name, whereas in the real world Rune is actually a very common name in the Nordic countries. It's kind of like approaching a fantasy character named Richard and telling him he has a very unique name.

    Have you ever taken a good look at Dragons in Skyrim? Have you taken note of their colours? If you have, you'll have noticed a pattern: the more powerful the dragon, the more colourful they are. If that is the case, then isn't it strange that Alduin, the greatest of all dragons, the firstborn of Akatosh, the World Eater and all that, is black as night? If more powerful dragons are more colourful, then Alduin should be brilliantly iridescent. So why isn't he?
    I have a theory, but first, we need to talk about mantles. In the Elder Scrolls Verse, there exists a concept known as "Mantling". Mantling is the process by which one being impersonates another being to the point where the universe itself stops distinguishing between the two, making them, for all intents and purposes, one and the same. Vivec, Almalexia and Sotha Sil attempted to Mantle the Daedric Princes Mephala, Boethiah and Azura respectively, and Tiber Septim ascended to godhood and became Talos through his successful Mantling of Lorkhan.
    If one can become a god by embodying that god's domain, then the opposite might also be true; a god acting outside of their domain might lose their divine power.
    Alduin is at least a demigod, if not a facet of an actual god, and he too has a domain; it is his job to eat the world at the end of time, and return the power stored within it to the Aedra, so that creation might begin anew. But Alduin wasn't satisfied with that. Instead of destroying the world, he attempted to rule it, thus acting outside of his domain.
    My theory is that Alduin lost a lot of his divine power as a result of acting outside of his domain, and this left him, quite literally, as but a shadow of his former self. That is why he is black. It also explains why he could be beaten so easily by a mortal (most unironically anticlimactic boss fight I ever fought).
    There is a dark side to this theory: if Alduin could only be beaten because he was acting outside of his domain, and thus did not have access to his full divine power, then perhaps the opposite is also true. Alduin might indeed be allowed to return at the end of time to fulfill his task as the World Eater, and when that time comes, we will not see a dragon with scales blacker than the blackest night. No, we will see a brilliantly coloured beast, with shining, iridescent scales too blinding to look at. This will be Alduin at his full divine power, acting within his domain, acting out his true purpose. And with his full power at his disposal, nothing will be able to stop him.

    • @TranscendentLion
      @TranscendentLion 6 ปีที่แล้ว +82

      This also makes sense when you consider that Alduin's father, Akatosh (or, at least, Auriel), is associated with sunlight.

      Halil Mert Iridescent. Not rainbow. His scales would be bright and probably golden and silver. Colors of power and authority. He’d also probably be much bigger and not as monstrous looking. Ya know. Less spikes and horns and more fin like appendages. Although. His eyes would probably be as black as the void. Anyway. He’d be much stronger in any case and maybe this dragon born is akatosh’s way of finding a new son. A new dragon to take a new mantle after a new world is created and the dragon born is Skyrim has obtained shouts that no other dragon uses.

    well with nocturnal's curse you have to consider that 1. she can always reapply it in the 200 years since oblivion, 2. it may of only been lifted for those two specifically, 3. there is the possiblity that ONLY the sheogorath change is canon so while we know for certain, due to the events of a main story being canon, that the player from oblivion is now sheogorath we DONT know for certain that the cowl was ever truely freed of its curse.
    could also mean rune's parent IS the player from oblivion...i mean they are immortal now

    • @michaelross2972
      @michaelross2972 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Pulse Fel Well the usual rule that Bethesda goes by concerning continuity is that the protagonist of each game completes all guild lines. It would be pretty weird for it not to be canon that the Hero of Kvatch completed every quest but the thieves guild
      Also Sheogorath aka the Hero of Kvatch mentions the Grey Fox when you meet him in Skyrim, so it's safe to assume that he did do the thieves guild quests.

    • @blemishednicely8402
      @blemishednicely8402 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Does the un-cursed cowl only erase one's identity while they wear it? I havent looked it up/forget but I KNOW it still works when the Player wears it & any bounty incurred while wearing it doesn't apply to the Player once they take it off (tho IIRC the bounty amount as the Gray Fox stays at w/e # the Player got it up to AS him).
      I can't remember if the curse was merely permanent rather than just temporary (I guess the guy you help isnt wearing it so assume the curse extended the effect to permanence)
      Another possibility is he may have only had one parent left & they died wearing it...if one died as the Fox, would that effect their living memory at all? Tho, there was only 1 Cowl & that wouldn't answer why the other parent is forgotten (unless Rune's mother died during birth, so he never knew her)...I have no idea if that would work with canon/lore though - just a thought~

    • @pulsefel9210
      @pulsefel9210 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      that is actually a good point, the cowl doesnt show up in skyrim so its possible theres a skeleton out there somewhere with it on!

    • @blemishednicely8402
      @blemishednicely8402 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pulse Fel
      It's a possibility at least...like even if the restored cowl only erases you as you wear it, I wonder if one dying with it on (coming to their end as an unknown entity) would effect how they were remembered in life or even entry to, say, Sovnegard.
      At the very least the person wearing it, nobody would know what happened to them as even the Gods wouldn't know THEY had met their end or how...ditto for assessing if they are worthy for entry to the Halls in afterlife.
      If the mother had died, Rune wouldn't know her & back in that day (despite game mechanics w ownership) property etc would be in the Father's name...the "???" would easily fit in such a scenario.
      Not saying this is so or even based off any existing sources, but it would make sense~

    • @blemishednicely8402
      @blemishednicely8402 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Pulse Fel
      Actually thinking a bit farther, IF Rune's dad died as the Gray Fox (wearing the cowl), it is completely feasible that nobody would even know the man NOR that his son had survived & was now lost/seeking him out. If you didn't know the guy was dead, a detective (for lack of better term) wouldn't consider him as a likely candidate for reunification/association with "Rune", afterall~
      (since nobody knew the kid's name & in this case nobody who knew his father could possibly know he was dead, it is most unlikely randomA&randomB would ever be connected...most would think the 2 were still together, whether alive or dead/missing)

      actually the sse version of skyrim adds many subtle things that were not in oldrim. one i can think off the top of my head is one nate did a video on. you remember that nightgate inn fultihm guy? if you wear full thalmor armor if front of him. on oldrim he does nothing. but in sse he attacks you. that alone is added content tho subtle. but i have seen so many others since nate brought up his channel using the sse version of skyrim. and since at the time of him reporting all of these things. i was playing oldrim on my pc. and i have not found many things that he has discoved within the sse version. just simply did not exist within the oldrim version.
      but i agree with you, it would have been really cool if bethesda added a little mission for rune and sapphire.

    Welp, there goes my theory on the giants. I was betting they used to be dwarves. They have the pointed ears of a mer and the beards that dwarves stereotypically have. As for their height and lack of intelligence. I was putting that up to a curse. Dwemer were known for overstepping their boundaries and trying to attain the knowledge of the gods. I figured a god got annoyed and cursed them. Made them too big to fit back into their old homes and too stupid to do anything about it.

    All the the Aedra were once daedra before giving up some of there divine power to create mundas and sovengaurd, therefore wouldn't it be safe to assume that they too would use the same or similar runic symbols in their language as the daedra. Perhaps it was written by Kinareth on his tomb since she was the one who first gave mortal men the power of the voice.

    I was really disappointed, actually, that we never helped Rune figure out who he was. That would have been something nice to do for him. Maybe after you become leader of the Guild, you gain more "connections" and a side quest becomes available that allows you to help Rune discover his past.

    • @kikidevine694
      @kikidevine694 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is the downside to Tes games, imo; they have the habit of leaving questlines feeling unfinished. Guild quests are a case in point; you work your ass off becoming leader of the guild and all you get is more of the radiant quests. I'm the most powerful thief/companion/mage in Skyrim and you still need me to steal a statue from an empty house?
      Also why do you not get access to Mercer's room when you become leader of the Thieves guild?

    • @Aethiral
      @Aethiral 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Not all morrowind and oblivion “fanboys” not enjoy Skyrim. I’ve mentioned this before but all those games are good. I don’t know which one I like better between oblivion and Skyrim tbh. The quests in oblivion felt so much more fulfilling but it lacked the combat and graphics that Skyrim contains. That makes the world a greater place in Skyrim. Yet I enjoyed both of these games. I’m not saying all Skyrim quests are lacking some of them are absolutely brilliant but I felt like oblivion had more character put into it. It sometimes felt a bit rushed of course but the ones that were thought through were amazing. Especially the voice acting.

    • @Gamer3427
      @Gamer3427 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I consider Skyrim the superior game over all, but I definitely feel like there were a lot of aspects that Oblivion did better. Spells, (including spell crafting), story, character design, and for me at least, the leveling system, (at least for things like acrobatics and such), were all better done in Oblivion just to name a few. As a result, I definitely can't blame people for enjoying the previous entries more. Again, I ultimately consider Skyrim the better game, particularly in regards to combat and exploration, two of the main components to the series, but that doesn't mean there's not a valid reason for people to enjoy the past entries just as much......

      The Giants used to have armies, complete with uniforms & when THEY were ran into the mountains/took Dwemer refuge, they were noticeably less intelligent & very much in a diminished capacity when they re-appeared above. The Giants acted as guards for the Dwemer & some theorize the Dwemer used their souls to power Centurion's/dynamo core's, causing this.

    During the quest in Oblivion, the curse was not lifted from the cowl but the Gray Fox himself. When you receive the item, after putting it on, NPCs would automatically start hating you. You would no longer be recognised as the hero of Kvatch, nor any of your other achievements are mentioned afterwards. Ppl started viewing you just as the Gray Fox, as the cowl is just treated as one of his features. But, as I mentioned previously, Corvus Umbranox has lifted the curse from himself, not the item. So the theory wirh Rune's parents is highly possible. Too bad it didn't make it as an actual quest in Skyrim.

I don't think it was oversight on the part of Bethesda.

      Count Janus Hassildor, vampire Count of Skingrad mentioned that Mehrunes Dagon had no love for vampires as they made poor slaves. Wouldn't surprise me if other vampires had no love for Dagon's followers.

    very late to the party just found your channel loving the content. I have a theory for Rune that would make sense given how the cowl work after the curse is broken. In oblivion after the curse is broken placing the mask on causes all crimes and actions to be attributed to the gray fox removing the mask removes all memory of the person beneath having committed the crime even if you do this in front of people. That said rune was a kid when he was found after a storm and ship wreck my thoughts are that if Rune's parent was a high ranking member of the guild before mercer one of them being the grey fox the ship wreck could have been a way for mercer to rise higher in the ranks. If the grey fox died with the mask on then his identity would still be forgotten and therefore all memory erased. Lifting the curse didn't change the effect of the cowl only removed the fact the it was irreversible. Take in to consideration that Mercer is clearly obsessed with the grey fox, the busts trinkets and private collection of thieves tools from the oblivion age at first glance seems like the guild master paying respect to the guilds past. His betrayal later shows that motive unlikely he wanted the key to unlock any door and his own potential he probably wanted the cowl to hid himself from nocturnal and his actions. Mercer didn't seem like the kind of guy to care about the money yes he wants it but to me it always seemed that the infamy he gained through his actions gave him more pleasure. so it would also make sense to keep Rune around in the off chance he found something that could lead him to the cowl.

    An important thing to keep in mind for #1 is that Dunmeri script shares letters with the Deadric alphabet. Also, being a "good" person does not affect where your soul goes once you pass away: Everyone goes to Aetherius unless you have traded your soul or otherwise lost it due to a deadric prince's influence. I would think any deal he made with any prince would land his soul in his respective realm.
    So the script on his tomb is simply using deadric/dunmeri letters. If anything I would say it “just” hints who buried him. Considering the history between Dunber and Nords (Particularly those that used the voice) they may have added his title as a sign of respect

    The giant in black reach always always bugged me it was just SO odd. I really like this theory and the one with Rune too. Usually I find they chose the words deliberately in a letter or book. I don't think it's hard to believe a daedric prince could restore a lifted curse

      For one, its german pronunciation, so logically a native english speaker doesnt process it in the way a german person would. Secondly, names arent really keywords in Skyrims quests, especially considering the Greybeards have way too much dialogue to listen to over long spans of time.

    • @grady3251
      @grady3251 6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      All I'm saying is that its so obvious he looks up this stuff on the internet (I'm not saying hes never played the game, he might remember the name slightly) and he just reads it off of a script without bothering to maybe play the game to see it firsthand. German pronunciation or not, it seems hard to believe someone who's channel is devoted to Skyrim would say stuff like Jurgen with a hard J, or Harkon with a long O, or Volkihar like Volikar.

    • @ihsahnblack
      @ihsahnblack 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      What I find kind of funny is how LOADS of people complain about his pronunciation. But does it REALLY matter? I mean, there are some people who aren't that capable of saying (or even remembering!) the right pronunciation of some words, no matter how many times they hear them (I, for one, can never remember the correct pronunciation of the word 'recipe' in English, even though I've heard it a thousand times). Also, the appreciation should be for the content: who cares if he says Jurgen instead of Yurgen? Even if the channel is devoted to Skyrim, it doesn't mean that one has to spend ages remembering the correct pronunciation of each German-sounding word in the game! Enjoy the content a bit more, maybe? And be less prescriptive with the pronunciation? :)

    • @grady3251
      @grady3251 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      It's just the fact that he sometimes says stuff like "I'm gunna butcher this name" or "or how ever you say it" but how hard is it actually to just hear the name said in the game, which he obviously has access to because he has in-game footage throughout his videos, the pronunciation is right there! There is no reason he should say this stuff wrong because even if he has a shadow of a doubt he can at least look up videos on the topic if he doesn't actually want to play the game

    I mean, it's entirely plausible Nocturnal placed the curse back on the cowl after the events of Oblivion. I mean think about it, after the Hero of Kvatch obtains the cowl, they will have eventually done something with it, they aren't immortal. It's not too unrealistic to believe that it found it's way back to Nocturnal, who cursed it again

  • @KorilD
    @KorilD 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Perhaps Rune's parents stole the Cowle from the Hero of Kvatch (or whomever inherited it), and the curse was reinstated as punishment for the theft? The Daedra are fickle like that, and love loopholes that let them keep their promises while still getting up to shit. Anyway, I'd not heard a lot of these before, so good job!

    I know this isn't related to the video but I've been playing Skyrim for almost 6 years and recently I found 'Froki's shack'. Froki is that old guy in the beginning of Skyrim at Helgen, that Hadvar yelled "Take care of the boy!" to. To my surprise, Froki and the kid (I forgot his name) survived Helgen. You can't mention anything about Helgen, so I don't think he remembers/even knows you. But that doesn't change the fact that for 6 years I HAD NO CLUE THAT HIM AND THE KID SURVIVED HELGEN

    Considering that the Daedra ranks were chock-full of daedroths, I find it hard to believe Molag Bal wasn't in on it as well. Most of them probably either didn't care or seem to have taken the opportunity to wreak havoc. Harmamora probably already knew the invasion would fail and didn't even bother participating.
