- Skyrim is packed with over a thousand characters for the player meet. Most of the folks inhabiting the world offered by The Elder Scrolls 5 are fairly straight forward, however a number of Skyrim’s most intriguing individuals are harboring some pretty big secrets. So today we’ll be taking a look at five more interesting liars you may have missed in The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim.

The biggest liars are the bandits that yell "I yield"

@@nonameaccount7773On my first playthrough, I crossed paths with a bandit in Bleak Falls that screamed "I yield!" I was like "Oh great! they added mercy to the game? neato!"... And proceeded to be criss-crossed by the basterd. That didn't live long enough to yield another time...
That was less than a nuisance to have to re-fight the bandit than the disappointment that, even as they left all the content implying it was there, there isn't such an action as mercy in Skyrim. And that made me sad.
Orc's logic: Too weak\cowardly to fight giants => Send DB to slay them instead => Attempt to murder the guy that killed aforementioned giants. LOGIC.
Yeah, that honestly bothered me quite a bit.
After all, he even admits that he is the inferior warrior ... and then proceeds to attack you? That's just awful writing on Bethesda's part. Maybe if he had gone the extra mile to hire some thugs to jump you once you've cleared out the giants, it would have made some sense, but like this it just ruins the immersion. :|
Maybe he assumes the Giant softened you up?
Also, he seems to think that he can deceive a Daedric Prince.

I'm guessing it might have worked of they hadn't given a speech before the betrayal.

Dragonborn sees friends, accomplices, and free enchanting materials. Dragonborn don't remember materials by name.
When I triggered Lights Out for the very first time, I was excited because I thought if I did Jaree-ra a favor, he'd become a bad ass follower. I was wrong, so I murdered him, his sister, and his crew to death.

My dad has hours put into this game, and got his sneak skill up to 100, and has not completed the Bleak Falls Barrow quest. He has no recollection of any of this

My favorite part is the Orc Chief, if you actually kill the giant by yourself it is possible to use a slow time shout or spell to run PAST the chief and run all the way back to their village the whole time the Orc Chief will chase you, and once you get to the village he will be killed by his own clan
Arvel is my favourite, especially when he becomes "The dead".

I found Arve quite interesting, and wondered how far he could go on one of my saves, like if he would really steal the treasure if he could. So upon discovering that he'd turn hostile to me when detecting me, I escorted him sneakily while killing every Draugr to prevent them from killing him, and deactivating the traps in advance/activating them just before he passes so he could go unharmed.
Turns out once he reaches a certain trap, the passages with 3 blades/saws, even if the trap is turned off, he'll just stop in his tracks and wait in the middle of it, awaiting the trap to kill him. So no matter what, his fate was doomed :/

you forgot the most interesting liar, the dragonborn. he/she lies all the time. for example, when he/she sneaks into the thalmor embassy.

My main character never lies when it's an actual choice. He's a super egotistical Dovahkiin & wants everybody to know who he is & what he's done. Every tavern he's in, he will request the Bard sing "The Dragonborn Comes" every chance he gets. So yeah, still an asshole, but not a liar.

@@EvelynnWinters2000 I considered that a little pay back for them lying to me about Fralia's son Thorald. I mean Eorlund makes weapons for my Companions, so I have a stake in the Gray-manes. Besides, it's the Thalmors own damn fault for not recognizing me. Everybody else in that damn party knew who I was. I'm the Dovahkiin damn it. Everybody except those damn Thalmor know who I am. Even the Thalmor not at the embassy knows who I am. As soon as I released Odahviing, the whole damn continent of Tamriel knew about it, yet these Thalmor couldn't recognize my face? (Sorry...Told you he's egotistic)

Hern and Hert aren’t liars. They’re blatantly vampires and never claim to be otherwise. They live in the HALF MOON mill. They’re 100% vampires and they’re 100% open about it. XD

They also aren't exactly evil. We don't know who they're feeding on. Bandits aren't exactly in short supply in the area so maybe that's their food source because they never attack you no matter what time of day. As well as having a supposedly very prosperous trading deal with falkreath.

He uses pastel map markers mod, but I'm not sure what the map mod itself is. Definitely looks great in combination with the pastel map markers mod.

Hert is one of my favorite NPCs. "Oh my.._ a visitor." She sounds so cute. Scary-cute, its a thing.
When I first came across the vampires, they were kind and I continued to buy lumber from them to build my houses. But once I got the contract, I felt so bad. Like having to kill Paarthurnax.

On my first run, I didn’t hear him call me a sucker, and tried to help him but he died :/
Nate, I just did (another) run through of the Soul Cairn. You could probably do a whole episode just in that place. Beside the well known "Secret Boss", you can also find the remains of two other visitors, various unique spells books, and rare weapons (if you are high enough level). But the thing I found today, that I have not come across in the 7 or 8 years I have been playing this game: You will come across 3 Orcs standing together. They don't do much and say nothing. But - take a look at the dragon bones near their little camp for a surprise.
If I recall, I think there was this rare moment in one of my playthroughs where Yamarz went to fight the giant and actually won, only for him to try and kill me afterward. Was quite surprised but felt confused as he actually won afterwards and yet still wanted me dead.
"Arvel the Dead" had me laughing too much 😂
Got another little detail for you. In Aftand, just before the gas-filled corridor, there's a room with vertical pistons on the left-hand side. In particular, there are a set of three vertical positions against the wall. If you time your jump on the pistons, you'll be raised to a small platform high above the floor where you'll find a chest and various loot.
Does Arvel really count as something you 'may have missed'?
Some people have never played through the main story and missed that side quest.

I know this isn't a tiny detail video, but I always thought it was funny that Cicero named the food suggestions in one of his random follower dialogues. When you poison the "emperor" you can choose to put sweet rolls or carrots in the recipe in one of the dialogues. Later Cicero says, "Cicero is hungry, need a sweetroll... or a carrot." I just thought it was a fun detail, and it kind of suggests that Cicero knows more about what's going on than we think.
There’s also a man called Telrav that you can meet on the roadside in the Rift. He looks like he’s been attacked by bandits and even tells you he was and asks you to help him get to his camp safely. Upon doing so you lead him across a bridge and to Nilheim. Once you get him there he tells you to wait for him to bring you your reward. After a few moments he and the other bandits there turn on you.
One odd thing
The old alchemy lady at Solitude always follow me around when i explore her house as if she's hiding something... can someone explain this to me coz i feel like she's the only one keeping an eye when someone is at their home

The vendors who set up shop in their homes will follow you when you leave their detection and have seen where you went.
All Vendors that are inside houses do that
All NPCs, vendors or otherwise, will try to keep you in their sights when you are within their property. It's supposed to make stealing their stuff harder because you can't easily sneak out of detection. Although, given how buggy navigation can be at times, it's still not actually difficult. Or, you know, just break in at night...

@@revairelum4871 Jokes on him, I just dual cast fireball and killed all 4 in 4 shots. Thanks to Archmage robes, one of the dragon priest masks, skills in destruction tree that allow me to cast for half magicka plus some additional armour/jewelry, spamming dual cast fireballs is a really nice way of cheesing through things you dont want to try very hard on :3

isn't anyone else fascinated by how erudite Skyrim's bandits are??? They always have these thick books by their bedside as if they fight for crimes by day and teach Philosophy of Dibella by night....
In fact, all of Skyrim's citizens seem to have an oddly high literacy rate for a setting that is almost completely devoid of schools and other educational facilities. Sure, some people may have learned to read in the temples, but I doubt that works as an explanation for everyone that owns books.
It's hilarious to me how these scenarios tend to play out. You help someone, and instead of them either taking the gift they're given or even just trying to sneak stab you if they feel they really must cross you, they go and announce that they're screwing you over, despite the fact that this is almost always after they witness you accomplish something akin to a Herculean legend. If they couldn't handle the thing you had to save them from in the first place, then why do they suddenly think that they can take you on themselves?

I love that one of the repeated lines of dialogue from Arval is "Cut me down!" - which is a euphemism for "Kill". So it's not outside possibility to presume that he is literally begging you to kill him.
That bandit just saw you single-handedly slaughter all these monsters he couldn't even harm. Then he tries to kill you. Smart move.

I try to keep the woman alive, sometimes tricky if her mate is a dark brotherhood contract (you won’t get it if you destroy the brotherhood) because she is nice to me saying always good to have you around. Once a dragon killed her and she left me gold in her will just because I gave her some wood 🤣
I tend to if I'm playing a goldish dragonborn to keep them alive long enough to build my mansion in the Falkreath hold then murder them to death..or if I'm playing an asshole just kill them..usually I just kill them though 😂😂

I did the Cursed Tribe quest as an orsimer mage named Murmir. Largashbur had actually been the first stronghold I found while trying to reach Ivarstead. For some reason, I couldn't help but feel slight sympathy for the chief as I was leading him to the shrine, as he did help me fight as much as possible outside the cave. I ended up taking his armor after I slayed the giant that took his life (sorta thinking it was a gift from Malacath before the TRUE reward of the quest). Murmir is now over level 20 and still wearing that exact same set of armor, slowly enchanting the pieces with black souls from the Black Star and increasing his smithing to fully upgrade the pieces.
"Liars you might have missed" shows literally the guy you encounter on progressing the main quest. Great video tho
you should totally do a series like this in the “Enderal” mod for Skyrim :D plenty of interesting stuff hidden there !

Here’s how:
No Weapons.. At all. Not even a dagger! ( More of a challenge )
Max Lockpicking ( any perk you want really, but for sure easier lockpicking )
Max Sneak ( Any perk you want, but sneak attack perks will be worthless if you’re playing they build right . Definitely get Shadow Warrior )
Max Illusion ( You should get this first, then build your other skills.. You can calm enemies so you don’t have to fight them.. You should only use calm spells though. Invisibility is also recommended. )
With this build I would recommend doing the thieves guild, and also go through dungeons.. you’d be shocked how difficult it can be to sneak through a dungeon without killing anyone! The main story most likely isn’t an option if you play to the standards..

I remember going to the mill to order some sawn logs for my Falkreath manor, and nobody was about, and the house was locked up. So, I went elsewhere for my lumber. I've never seen Hert or Hern about in the day except during the radiant quest, "Animal Extermination." You deal with the wee beastie and and they are friendly and grateful. But their dialog is ominous. Also, they have red eyes, not yellow, just like all vamps. I don't know what hours they operate the mill to this day, but I just order through my steward.
Hey Nate. I was wanting to share a random thing that happened while i was playing Skyrim today. I had bought a dwarven mace from Euorland Grey-Mane in Whiterun. When i fast traveled to Windhelm a courier stopped me with a letter from Calcelmo of Markarth. He said he would pay handsomly for the mace, and even went as far as stating he knows i got it from Whiterun and states "Im not sure how such an object came to find itself resting there..... but ive been trying to obtain one for my research." Figured its weird enough that you could use this knowledge in some regard, maybe look into it if your struggling for ideas, idk lol.

What mod adds the mask on the Orcish Helmet in the thumbnail?

It also is one of the many inclusions of the Immersive Armors mod which fills the game with a crap ton of extra armors and clothings.
Old kingdom armor mods on Xbox (thats the only way to get it)

Not sure if she's a liar or not, but the necromancer you free from the spider webs in Southfringe Sanctuary tells you a heartwrenching story about reuniting with her son in Riften but when you free her and she tries to leave, if you talk to her over and over she gets frustrated and says she just wants to get back to her "daughter" as soon as possible.

Regarding Raerek
During the Markarth incident jarl Igmund got help from Ulfric Stormcloak the terms for that was Talos worship was to be legalized in Markarth. It was made illegal again when the empire came back to Markarth, But that makes it less surprising that he was a Talos worshiper.

When I was doing A Cursed Tribe, I experienced something weird. I got tired of dying to the final giant at the shrine of Malacath, so I used a Scroll of Mass Paralysis. Somehow, that caused Yamarz to turn hostile on me early. We fought for a while, a fight that definitely wasn't easy, until he seemed to give up and then the quest dialogue was triggered and he turned hostile for real. So, I had to fight him TWICE.
Is Chiefs yamarz helmet part of a mod? I remember him having a regular orkish helmet when I did the quest
