I've been with Schneider for just under 3 years. Been with them since the beginning of my career as a rookie driver. Over the past 6 months I've started souring on them. But I'm also pessimistic and am convinced all mega carriers are exactly the same. I'm going to Walmart orientation in a couple weeks anyway so hopefully that works out and can put the mega carriers behind me.

Been with roehl 5 years now. I have complaints believe me, but its not a bad company. They always get me home when i want. The micromanagement ends once they know they can trust u. My inside camera is off and i dont take pics of loads. If u dont like your dispatcher request another one. I went thru several before i got one i liked. If u think schneider or jb hunt is the answer then maybe trucking simply isnt for u. Best of luck whatever u do

As a driver, you're expecting something that you'll most likely not get. Outward cameras are to cover your butt. Inward is definitely invasion. The message about leaving a paved surface is definitely stupid. There are tons of places that aren't paved, and you can't avoid them.
As far as Lease Purchase, it's not a good idea. The company controls your success and hours. And people are right, you are not an owner operator. You don't own the truck, and you can't take it to another company until you do. You are basically a Company Driver with all the expenses and risks on you. I think Roehl has APU's in their trucks, and that's why the payments are expensive.
If you run out of hours, do a Split Sleeper Berth. You'll get hours back. PC also works as long as you don't abuse it.
And yes, planners and dispatchers do have power over you. If you piss them off, they'll start giving you crappy loads or make you wait and tell you that's all they have. You have no way to verify unless you have access to the load board. Is it right? No, but there is little you can do about it.
Trucking sucks. You have to adapt or find something else. Hate to say it. No bathroom, showers, or food? Adapt. You can sponge bath. Bring non refrigerated food. You have to look after you. They won't. That said, you have to look at the positives. You've got freedom on the road, you can see different things, and take time off in places you wouldn't normally be able to.
Going from one mega carrier to another is like expecting the grass to be greener.
As far as being Lease Operator, you answered your own question. As a company driver, you are getting the same pay, you've got benefits, and you don't have to stress about payments, fuel, or repairs. Never lease from a company. Do it on your own through a 3rd Party. You then have the power to take that truck somewhere else.
Whatever happens, I wish you the best.

Back of the napkin math - a new truck is $185k plus. If you divide that by 156 weeks (3 years) even with 0% interest, that’s $1185 per week not including any insurance or fees.

Roehl transport is good if you need training the training is awesome but the company itself sucks!!! Everything from dispatchers, planners, mechanics and upper management is terrible and don't forget the micro management telling you where to fuel, how much to get, what route to take and sometimes even telling you when to drive or where to park. I hated them as a full time driver once training was over

I have not watched this video yet.. but, I have a friend who went through roehl training for his class A cdl, he passed and everything and went out with somebody for almost 2 weeks. Then he stopped going and quit, he claimed that his reasoning was "because I would be away from home too much. I was told I'd be home every weekend but now I'm finding out might not be home for months at a time". I dunno, I think there is much more to it than that, unless he really expected to be home every weekend which I dunno how he thought that was going to happen being OTR. He's a single guy with nothing holding him at home, so I don't see what the big deal was. Oh well.

@@AkimboPickles2 Yup yup. I believe he was supposed to be OTR though not even regional. I don't know.. he doesn't seem to keep jobs very long. I've known him for almost 4 years now- we used to work at the same place. He quit there and went to another place (but doing the same thing), quit there after 4 months and went somewhere else doing the same thing, quit there and went to roehl, quit there and went back to the 2nd place he was at, quit there and went to another place doing something slightly different, quit there and now he's back at the 2nd place again. Always claims that he's told his job will be x, y, z and it never is so that's why he leaves. If they 'lied to you' the first time, why go back- it won't be any different this time around. He has his class A now, but since he didn't stay with roehl I'm sure he had to pay for the training and such? so what was the point.

I've not watched any of your previous videos so I don't know your back story. To the point... "Why" do you "hate" being a company driver?
I'm trying to figure out if it is the companies you have been working for and their asinine rules that you "hate" or some ego issue about not being your own boss?
I see you have worked for a bunch of larger companies and in my opinion... that is probably your problem. Almost all large companies suck. Some small companies suck too, but there is where you will have your most freedom. You will deal with "people", not a random person in a "department" you will never see in real life.
    What is your actual goal?
Are you simply trying to maximize your money or do you want to own a truck? Is making the best money the most important or is owning a truck your biggest goal? It's one or the other, not both.
You need to realize, if you have zero money and you buy a $200K truck, you are gonna work 10+ months out of the year for 3 to 4 years to stay ahead of the payments. If any thing (health or family issue) takes you off the road for a few weeks and you'll be so far behind you can't recover. All your work is for nothing. They get the truck back and you get nothing.
It's intentional. These big carriers want you hauling as much of their freight as possible. There goal is to have you hauling their freight and making them a profit. Some places like SFI and Prime, if they can make money on selling you a truck, not paying part of your payroll taxes or having to provide you any personal insurances is just added benefit. If you complete the lease, you might take that truck elsewhere. Some people successfully complete the lease, it is possible, but the high majority don't. Or they opt to restart a new lease as opposed to finaincing a $90K balloon payment on a truck worth $60K on the regular market and have zero factory warranty while making those finainced payments and risk a expensive breakdown.
I work for a great company. We have 50-100 trucks. Might not be the company for you. I get left alone and make decent money and go home when I say I want to go home. I don't have to "earn" time off. There is no in truck messaging system. I get no messages about my outward facing camera or my driving. We use GEO Tab. We have a weather/traffic exemption button that extends your 11/14 by 2 hours. If you get in a bind, you can use it, no questions will be asked. Our PC is not limited nor will you get questioned about it unless you are OBVIOUSLY using it to deliver the load and not your personal reasons. We use Pilot/Flying J with no set fuel solution. Fuel when and where you want. We have no set route. You aren't given a route. The route you take is entirely your choice. We have unlimited truck washes with Blue Beacon. You wash it when and where you want. It's hard to imagine me going to work for anyone else due to the freedom I have. I only care about freedom and money. I have no concern with being a "owner" of equipment. It's all limited time use plastic disposable junk. It's not 1995 anymore. Most of us aren't driving the same truck for 20+ years anymore. 500K to 1Million miles and it's off to the scrap yard. Most trucks with 300-400K sell for 1/4 of what they did when new 3-4 years prior. Modern used trucks have almost zero value.
Once again I ask... What do you want? What is your ultimate goal?
I personally want to pay off all my bills, save up a small nest egg and get OUT of trucking. Trucking is a means to my finacial freedom. And in the process, I don't want to be camera "coached" or have to deal with stupid policies while I'm out here. Leave me alone and pay me!

If you're broke and want a truck, you're gonna do "the man's" bidding and play his games for years with no personal time until you can say that worn out plastic piece of shit is all yours. Breakdowns and all.
The "money" aspect will come many years later, possibly never. I don't know many owner ops that are making a lot of money that aren't specialized and built up a ton of capital to be idle in bad times and bust their ass in the good times. Most O/O's I know just "get by".

You will recieve you're "lumps" one way or the other. You have to use simple logic. How many Successful OO have you encountered? I suspect, not many. There's a reaon for that. Good luck. God Bless. Oh yeah, you should definitely leave Roehl, but not because it's a bad company. From what it sounds like, you've been driving for a while, and you're an adult. But Roehl sounds like it's a starter company that doesn't treat drivers like adults, because they probably have a ton of new, and young drivers. So they micromanage everyone.
I guess I would recommend finding a company that isn't so 'hand holdy'?
I've been driving since 2012 and definitely couldn't go back to the lower levels of trucking. After 5 years of trucking, most people can go lease operator, because they know what they're doing, and know how the business works. The only problem is that the rate of pay for lease oping only covers the cost to operate a business right now. And I'm not trying to bring home less money than a company driver after taxes and expenses.

Prime lease purchase $14,000 down they give you $1,000 credit where every year seniority with the limit of 8,000.... Payments are still weekly but you can stretch least purchase to 4 years to lower payments

Go back to company driver this time.... I don't see how can you make any time worth money as owner operator let along lease operator unless you are specialized.... By that I mean... Heavy haul, over size over weight, events transport, hazmat, tanker.
