I agree with your frustration with dealing with customers. Some are just nasty people. I always treated them with a good attitude and respect but I would still run into some real scumbags. Also agree with the pay aspect. I was northeast regional and spent more time sitting and looking for a parking spot late in the day. I had my cdl before I went to Roehl with no experience. I gave them the 40k miles and left. Now I am home every day and make 14-17 hundred per week. Again. I AGREE 100% Good luck to you sir.

@Bluegrass , hay , it’s ok . It’s like that in most industries. People look for what is going to work for them. You have too . Living expenses are expensive. You have to give yourself a Raise. Nurses , painters, electricians if you work under a company you look for a raise if you have your own business you revamp what You Charge . It’s the way of the United States in order to survive. And I watch a video where the guy said that Once you get your CDL - Companies Begin to Reach out To You. I wish you the Best . I wish everyone the Best . And applaud 👏🏽 that Your providing for your Family.
@@MenofRenowndiscussions not for the cal but for their program, $7000. They have 3 different payment plans you can choose from to pay it back. It’s worth it if you find a better opportunity, in my opinion. It’s $5000 to get your Cdl on your own, from what I’ve heard.
As a regional driver for Roehl is home time negotiable? The recruiter I spoke to told me out 11-14 days then home for 3 days. I would much rather be out 5 days and home for 48 hours. Just wanted to ask if I can get that at Roehl on a Regional route.
Can you bring your wife along with Roehl ? Me and my wife are homeless and this seems like the best option for our situation. I currently work but it’s seasonal(Landscaping).
@AJ-wz2fu you have to drive 6 months with roehl before you can do the partner program but you could both do their gycdl program and both drive separate til you meet the 6 months or once you get your cdl, there are other companies that do team driving. I wish you the best with it! Let me know if you decide to go through with it.
any suggestions on national flatbed? i want to take the job, but just i don’t know if i can trust the pay. definitely can’t survive on 700-800 a week. thanks
@tc09630 I don't have experience with flatbed or national but I do know that flatbed pays more and national as well. If you go that route, you should make more than that. Probably closer to $1000-$1200 a week, starting out, I'm guessing. I left there after three months and went to us xpress and started making $1700 a week.
When you started with Roehl did you have to do agility testing meant ro mimic daily task as a truck driver? If so did they monitor your heart rate after each test? I ask because I am taking a medication that has a side effect that raises your heart rate and I am afraid I may not pass if that is the case. I just got my CDL and am considering Roehl as a good place to get my start.
Also word of advice try to stay with a US Xpress for at least a year before you decide to leave cause if u keep jumping ship job to job mostly sum truck companies won’t hire due to leave job to job
Can anyone help me answer this. When working as an OTR driver. Where does the driver take the truck when returning home for a few days. What are all the options?
You can bring the truck home if you have a place to park the trailer within 3 miles. That's what I've always done. Otherwise, you have to leave the truck at a place that is safe and legal to park, like a truckstop.
I'm considering doing the ROEHL program but I'm not sure id stay for the 120k miles now do you have to pay it back all when you go or do have a payment plan
It can definitely be worth it to try another company if you find a good one, in my opinion. I went from there making around $900 a week to making $1500 a week with us Xpress.
@@bluegrassoutdoors That is awesome brother thanks for the fast response been watching your videos all morning since I found your channel it's giving me the views I want and honest opinions but not really putting them down and making me not wanna do it. it's looking like Roehl is a good option if I can get in.
You should of transfer to Krafts dedicated account that’s what I was on I averaged about 2500 to 3000 miles a week came home about 1000 to 1300 a week mostly drop and hook and went to a lot of Walmart DC I was home on Friday afternoon and left Monday morning but I’m now a instructor at the Gary terminal
That sounds like a decent deal. I like the touch freight style better myself though and this place has a set amount of $1700 a week as long as you are on time. How long have you been an instructor there? I got my cdl there back in December or so.
@@bluegrassoutdoors hey I’m not mad if they offer more go for it I hope you don’t get the ones I snide the city like Chicago there a family dollar on 71 st in the south side man it’s a pain to get too especially with a 53 ft trailer
You know us express is owned by knight transportation. It may be greener grasses or it may be fake turf. Something to think about with dedicated is your still gonna be sleeping in your truck. With local just because you're home every night doesn't mean you're home every night. For example local your gonna be working 14hrs a day. So if you go to work at 2pm and get off at 2 am. You can spend time with your family when they are awake or you get the sleep you need. Something to think about is Family dollar workers aren't going to act like the workers at Chick-fil-A or lifeway Christian book store. Just things to consider.
I have thought about all of those things my friend 👍 except for maybe the workers not acting like chick-fil-a workers or lifeway Christian book store. Never been to either one myself
@@bluegrassoutdoors you've never been to a Chick-fil-A? What I'm saying is the attitude of human beings are going to be crappy anywhere you work. Just make sure you are not burning any bridges with the company that you are leaving. Dang I was gonna tell you about a Christian Truckers rest area in Illinois on i70 that has free parking showers, laundry, snacks, and serves free breakfast lunch and dinner.
@ministryinthemaking1927 I never have been to a chik-fil-a that I can recall. There isn't one in my little town or county. I agree with you there. I plan to pay the contract and I got their truck turned in, which was a bit of a challenge for me. I'm on a bus heading to Kentucky now. I'm thinking I will like touch freight better myself but I may be wrong. I'm interested in the dollar general fleet as well, which requires a year of experience. I'm thinking this experience will help me a lot there.
Hey bro are still working for the company that do touch freight with a dedicated route if so how do you like it ? I think I know the company that you are talking about .
I am no longer with us Xpress. I loved the job itself but the 34 hours home was rough. Even that I could deal with. But then they mad my home time more random and they said there were no set schedule. I wasn’t okay with that part. I was clearing $1500 a week, after taxes there. Great pay!
Hello there I enjoy Is your videos, I plan on getting into trucking this year. I was curious The pay that you show is out before taxes or after taxes.. Thanks. And stay safe out there
Sorry for the late reply. The pay I showed is after taxes. Thank you very much for the kind words , I wish you the best with your trucking journey and God bless!
So you go from one mega carrier to another? What makes make you think the grass is greener at US Express? Not to mention that that dollar general account is all floor load, You have to handle every one of those boxes by hand, But I wish you the best though
To a dedicated route that supposedly pays much better and that has a terminal in my state. The touch freight is actually part of why I think I'll like it more. But if not, I'll plan to maybe get a local route after 6 months. And thank you for the kind words 🙏
You may be right. I do believe that trucking companies make things out to be better than they are. I am thankful for roehl. But I do believe their pay is their main con. I'm looking forward to finding out for myself what these other companies are like and which ones are better. Are you a company driver? If so, how long have you been with Roehl?
@davidc.w.2908 that is pretty good money for sure, and it sounds like you have earned it. The over the road thing isn't for me, though. Mainly because of the people you deal with. I am hoping that the dedicated route that I will be moving to will be better in that aspect. For me, over a year is longer than I want to wait to make the kind of money that you mentioned. The average weekly pay where I'm going is supposed to be $1400-1700. I understand you need experience. But $800-$1000 to me is far lower than it should be as an over the road trucker. If they consider you experienced enough to be over the road, to me, that should be worth more around $1200-1400 minimum. And even that to me is low for an over the road trucker. But whatever works best for you. For me, I am definitely happy to try something different at this point, even if it's harder physically.
@davidc.w.2908 I disagree that the people you deal with has nothing to do with otr, disagree entirely. I've experienced bad attitudes at nearly every place I've gone. I don't regret leaving roehl myself. Trucking is a personal thing. You like working for roehl as an otr driver, I did not. If the dollar store doesn't work for me, I will move on from there as well once I get some more experience in and other opportunities open up. But the pay should be much better already with this company. As far as the attitudes, that remains to be seen. Be safe out there and God bless 👍
I’m thinking my experience will go the same. How much exactly do you have to pay if you break the contract, and do you have to pay it all at once, etc ? If you don’t mind me asking.
Jason is correct. $7000. From what I understand, you do it on a payment plan. I still haven't heard from roehl about it, but once I find out, I will let you know more 👍
@GamerAtrain us express hires if you have 3 months of experience. I have a friend who is going to maverick at the moment as well and I've heard good things about it. Bring home is supposed to be around $1200-$1300 a week.
Yes indeed! I am very thankful for roehl and still have a lot of good to say about them. The pay is the only con, for me personally. Be safe out there!

So how much do you have to pay Roehl for your training . I drove for US Xpress for about 7 month . 16 years ago on a dedicated Home Depot account . I wasn’t getting enough miles . Wasn’t making any money. Wasn’t worth being away from home.
I think it just depends on what it is and how long ago it was. I would apply and just be honest about what it is and when cause they will do a background check.
U could not have said it better what works for one might not work for another as far as the selfish no everybody I know broke the contract anyway I’m heading to swift 🎉
@Donny-D843 I'm in orientation. Tomorrow is my last day of it and then I'm supposed to get a truck. How are you liking it? Congratulations on that my friend 👍
@@davefromthe502 You don't have to pay anything up front with the GYCDL program. You sign a contract to drive 120,000 miles with the company and as long as you do that you owe them nothing. If you break the contract, you pay back $7000 on payments, or whatever they decide you still have left towards that $7000.
Once you get your CDL, it's yours. Buy you do have to pay them for their program that got you your cdl. Roehl has 3 different payment plans to choose from.
Why would u respect a company that has inward facing cams? They don't respect u. No offense, I really don't understand this breed of drivers. More people that work for them and accept it you're basically telling them you're ok with it so theres no reason for them to change. Don't work for them. Hurt their pockets and maybe, just maybe, they'll change their ways when they can't find enough drivers and revenue.
Most companies that I know of who offer the gycdl program have the inward facing cameras, if i'm not mistaken. I would prefer to not have them as well. For me, roehl was a company to get my cdl through. It's $5000 to get it yourself here in kentucky, if I'm not mistaken. The inward camera is something that doesnt bother me enough to keep me from getting my cdl.
You won't make the good money the first year youre with a company Doesn't matter which company new drivers won't make the big bucks they don't give you the best loads or anything cuz youre inexperienced
Dang i enjoyed your videos until you tried to blame the economy on our current president as if the economy hasn’t gone to sh*t for the last ten years. That was a ridiculous comment. It’s been awful since covid happened
I mean no offense, but I will address what you said. The current president shut down our gas lines, left our borders wide open, used our tax payer money to fund wars and pay for illegal immigrants, withdrew our troops, leaving behind Americans and billions of dollars worth of equipment. This economy isn't the result of covid, which you hear nothing about anymore, and which has since been proven to have been used politically. It's the result of foolish politics, and the man in office now is the worst leader this country has ever had, along with Obama. Let's speak the truth if you want speak on these issues.

I believe it's a great place to get started for sure. As far as staying, I believe that comes down to the individual and what works best for you. Jason is right as far as it being stressful and a lot thrown at you in a short amount of time. That's the truth for sure. I even mentioned that to the main guy at roehl while I was there. Thank you so much Jason 🙏 I was hoping to meet you as well and we may very well still meet up. I will be in a lot of the same states as you still. How has it been going? Are you on week 2 now? Have you did the pre-CDL test yet?
@@bluegrassoutdoors Yeah I’m on week 2. My pre CDL test is on Friday. The other guy in my truck quit on day 4 so since I’m alone, I’m about a day ahead on my backing. That pre trip is intense. That’s the main thing I’m worried about right now.

Good luck with your new job!👍I think all these starter trucking companies with training are dishonest with the starting wages. If they told the truth nobody would commit to their training and fill that seat in the truck. God bless 🙏
You are probably right, Dan! I can't say for sure that roehl was dishonest, only that the pay wasn't what I was hoping for. I am hoping US Xpress pays around what they say. If so I will be much happier with the pay and I do believe I will like touch freight better, personally. Thank you very much for the kind words and I hope you have had a wonderful year so far. God bless you as well my friend 🙏
Again. I AGREE 100%
Good luck to you sir.

@@bobbystokes9269 as a regional driver that should be exactly what you get at roehl. Out during the week and home for 48 hours.

Wait so how long do you have to say. People say 120,000 miles or 3 months. How long do you have to stay to not get your CDL taken back?
It takes a year or a little longer to make the 120,000
If you ain't comfortable change it. Great decision
any suggestions on national flatbed? i want to take the job, but just i don’t know if i can trust the pay. definitely can’t survive on 700-800 a week.
@@bluegrassoutdoors thank you for taking time to reply. i appreciate your videos.

I never had to do any tests like that 👍
Also word of advice try to stay with a US Xpress for at least a year before you decide to leave cause if u keep jumping ship job to job mostly sum truck companies won’t hire due to leave job to job
I'm planning to 👍 I don't regret leaving roehl at all but I agree with you that it's not good to go from place to place.

Question do you count your training as experience? I’m at prime and not training was 3 months. I wage work another 3 months and go local
@@JohnQuest413 yes indeed.
