Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni has admitted that expelling Indians in the 70s was a "mistake". Uganda's former dictator Idi Amin had expelled Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi citizens from Uganda - leading to a mass exodus from the country. About 80,000 Indians living in Uganda at the time had to leave their homes and thriving businesses to migrate to safer places. Palki Sharma tells you how Museveni's admission sets an example.

Palki Sharma- a point of correction: 1-Yoweri Museveni did not replace former President Idi Amin Dada. Idi Amin Dada overthrew the first democratically elected president Dr. Apolo Milton Obote. Idi Amin Dada was removed through the liberation war 1978-1979 eith the help of Tanzanian Defence Forces, and was officially replaced by Dr. Apollo Milton Obote after the 1980 general election. This was Obote's presidency. President Yoweri Museveni participated in the liberation war as an army officer. Idi Amin Dada adopted and continued with president Obote's economic nationalism model in which Uganda nationalised all industries owned by foreigners(the British, Indians, Pakistanis). Unfortunately there was no proper economic plan to manage all the state-owned industries after nationalisation policy. Every country practices some form of economic nationalism and protectionism to protect strategic and infant industries.
Point of correction too Milton Obote was not a democratically elected president of Uganda. He was a prime minister who overthrew the democratically elected Sir Edward Muteesa II

You’re completely wrong. Indians in Uganda were the hardest working people in the country..They provided employment to Ugandans more than any other community in the country. They never abused the Ugandans physically or otherwise like Europeans, in fact it was the other way around. The country economically ran, thrived and survived because of tax money collected from Indian businesses because Indians share of tax burden was the biggest of all. If you don’t believe it then look what happened to the businesses after the Indians were kicked out. They were all in ruins. The most beautiful country in Africa was completely destroyed and ruined because of one mad man and people like you who were brainwashed.

Yes, in Eary August 1972 the former President of Uganda Idi Amin ordered the expulsion of his country' s Indian minority, giving them 90 days to leave the country at that time I was young student in Europe, a few years later after that I was in East Aftrica 😢😢 after the Educated " Asians" had lefted the country Ugand economy sinking,felt into porverty worst than ever before but Adi hinself was the worst of evil " blood sucker" to his own people ( love the Asians in East Africa they were 👍👍👍👍👍👏✌️)

More African economies experience similar stuffs like this after gaining independence. Mismanagement of long established colonial assets. Example in Sierra Leone, a rail system that operated for 73yrs closed within 13yrs after gaining independence. And mismanagement , corruption and incompetence were the key contributors to its closure.
They need to apologize to every country they colonize hell they're not even giving apologies to anyone these people don't believe they did anything wrong around the world.

Idi Amin did not pay anyone but took properties and businesses of the Asian people and gave them 90 days to leave uganda. All these people were allowed to take was 55 uk pounds. Those people had to rebuild their lives all over again.
