Probably false. The West is in massive decline. These Indians were business owners in Uganda. By now they would have been wealthy owners of big businesses in Uganda instead of petrostation owners in the US. Uganda is looking actually good right now. land and housing are cheap unlike the West.

@@TemplarX2No we xont want them. Today ask any Ugandan. Idi amin stood for the black man and didnt take any racisim and mistreatment of a black person lightly. So indians with heor superiority complex over blacks had to leave. And today we own our country and its not an apathide city like it used to be with the cities having only indians and no black given permits to do any business in the city.

You are absolutely correct. These Indian where the movers and stakeholders of Uganda for more than 60 years in some cases. I don't know Ugandan of Indian origin who was happy running motels along interstate in southern United States, compared to the live they had in Uganda. I hope the president of Uganda issue a formal apology to the all those affected by that gross injustice and rectitude their properties and money with interest. That will go long way in the reconciliation between Ugandan of Indian origin and their country of birth.

Correction! My family who left before Idi Amin expelled the Asians never waned to go back. Most of the Asians were not interested to go back and those who went back to reclaim their properties sold them and returned. They lost trust and most of us who settled in the west are very prosperous. Palki when you said there are 35,000 Indians in Uganda, most of them are first generation Indians who went from India. When we visited Uganda we saw Indians who came directly from India and not the former Ugandan Indians. Once bitten twice shy. Only a handful of former Ugandan Indians went back to do business in Uganda. Majority refused. President Museveni and I personally met in USA and he extended invitation to our family to come back but we politely turned it down.

Amin did not deport anyone. Firstly, he told Britain take all its citizens with them. All persons holding British citizenship was asked to leave. Britain did not want the Indians because The UK racist government decided that there were too many Indians already in the UK. Britain then asked India to take them and India refused stating that they were not Indian citizens. Amin was used as the fall guy to cover up The UK 's colonial racist policies aganist native Ugandans. All Indians asked to leave were holders of UK citizenship. How can you receive independence from from one guy and then your economy is in the hands of foreigners. The British used the Indians, their Neocolonial puppets of Tanzania, and the fact that Amin had sided with the Muslims, to discredit him and remove him from office. Then the British and their cohorts began the recolonization of Uganda The British have released all the files now . Go and check it out. Same thing happened to Muammar Gaddafy, Saddam Hussein , Bashur Assad, Zia Al Huq etc. Why was it a problem for the Indians to return to their own country? Why did they have to remain where they were not wanted when they themselves despised the native Africans. Indians come from a racist society and thats they only way the live among other people. So they need to be in India. Amin was right. Just like Trump, and everyone else who ask people who are displacing the rights of the indiginous people to leave. Arabs ask people to leave their countries every day . India did the same to the people of Bangladsh also. The Indians should have returned to India or follow the British to the U K. Museveni was wrong and is still wrong and is too political to admit the truth. All those Amin movies are UK propaganda.. 0:04

By the time Amin left, the economy was dead. The economies around us were far ahead. We were importing everything from Kenya mainly.. Am not referring to the current situation.
Secondly, such actions of chasing foreigners from a country hasl always have drastic repercussions to any economy. Mainly because the technical know-how is not considered... If you need another example, is Zimbabwe ....
Farms were owned and run by the whites.. you wake up and give it to a chap who has not even tilled a small garden for his domestic use. What do you expect??
Chaps were given shops, factories, etc. When the Indians left UG, the best was to loot the shops .
In reference to the current situation.. frankly speaking, a few Ugandans have the capital or skills to invest in manufacturing rather they do in other sectors... the Asians do have the capacity and are doing it

So why did they not return to India or the UK a 0:04 and excelled there? No one can claim the right to settle uninvited in anothet man's house. Those Indians were British subjects. Uganda had gained its independance and had asked all British citizens to leave lndians did not want to be in Uganda . They were eager to leave until the British abandonned them. These are facts. Many people who had settled in India from Bangladesh during the war with Pakistan that India instigated were asked by India to return to their countries. All over Europe and North America, the same countries that condemned Amin are currently asking migrants from the Ukraine, and the Arab countries to leave their shores. Mynamar is doing it right now to some other refugees. And Trump did it and will be doing it very soon. All those fake movies and lies were made to hide the real story of who the real devils were and the games they played with the Ugandans and the Indians. Go and get the files. They have been declassified. Amin held a meeting with all the concerned heads of states: the British, US, French, Indians Pakistanis and others , where he informed them that he was going to ask The UK to take all its citizens out of the newly Independent Uganda. After all if you are independent you need time and space to mold your citizens and plan for the future. Well Idi Amin obviously thought they weren't needed and then the business sector in the country largely collapsed and it turned out they were. Successive Ugandan Governments have since urged them to come back. You have your thoughts (as did Amin) - turns out reality and History do not align with them - wise men would learn from History!
You also said the British brought them to Nairobi - they were brought initially for labour for the railways (the locals were not in sufficient numbers and dependable). They subsequently set up businesses and towns along those railways and elsewhere. After the British, Indians have founded more towns in Kenya than anybody else - a lot of towns in rural Kenya started around a duka set up by an Indian family. @@elvisejo5885

1960s was an era of anti Indian sentiments in Africa. After British colonialism ended in Africa, local African politicians needed new scapegoat and Asians were there for the taking. Lot of these Asians then had to leave their home in Africa overnight and most of them went to UK, not India, Pakistan (Undevided). Current UK prime minister Rishi Sunak comes from one such family which had to emigrate from Tanzania (Uganda's neighbour) on 1960s. History is weird. Our present is connected with our past.

Uganda has only had two presidents dat is Iddi for He was a patriotic and too African to impress the imperial powers. M7 has just been wise enough to play them at their game. But IDD AMIN DADA was a blessed gift sent from heaven to our motherland. God bless AMIN for He laid a big founding stone for our country. Any Indian who left the country during his rule were Indians who weren't ready to be Ugandans and chose UK as their county but those whose chose to be Ugandans till now are there and all thy know is their Indian roots but are proud Ugandans, I mean I know of such families. And abt the corrupacy of the economy it the sanctions that the imperialist put on him so as bring him down. The western powers played their best games hence his downfall. Ugandans were so poor and discriminated in their own land thus his raise. I always say listen to the news but don't believe the news do ur own research. Right now if AMIN was to come back to life and stood for elections believe me he wld win undecisively. But we have M7 its fine too. Why isn't China dependent upon white or Indian or any other minorities for its progress and rise to power? Because the Chinese people and their leaders chose not to become dependent. The real mistake is to allow oneself to become dependent upon any minority especially clannish and hostile and insular minorities which both Indians and whites have often proven to be. Prove me wrong. Now answer these questions: Would Indians or whites allow black people or black Africans to behave in their home countries the way they have and often still do in Africa. Would they accept the same kind of attitudes from black people in their homelands? There needs to be a lot more honesty in this conversation and a lot more historical and current context inserted.

Africa has the most human genetic diversity of any continent. Self esteem and cultural and national pride are what matters. Chinese do not have an inferiority complex as many people in other parts of the world do. They don't think that "the white man's ice is colder" or that they cannot compete with, or even out compete others whether it comes to sport and art or technology. Places like China and Japan have national development goals which go back for many generations. They have learned from outsiders and adapted useful things to their cultures without becoming permanent serfs to clannish minorities in their own lands as many Africans have.
The white west is the big defender of white and Asian minorities in Africa no matter how badly they have mistreated the black majority. It does so while opposing land reform and justice for the black majority at every turn. It has even forced blacks to pay their white and Asian oppressors for land which was stolen from the black people...Meanwhile, the same white west is the scourge of black minorities in the west itself where it also opposes all forms of justice when it comes to black people.
And the west is baffled why China which doesn't share its history of massacre, theft, and large scale racial subjugation is out competing it on the African continent? Really?

Sadly, The same thing happened to Eritreans in 1998; roughly about ninety thousand well-off Eritreans who had been in Ethiopia for decades were expelled without any notes in an inhuman way from Ethiopia. They were tortured and raped, their property and money were confiscated, and some were killed. Ethiopians' reason for the removal of Eritreans was they didn't like the color of their eyes.

No - in Eastern Africa specifically they ended slavery in Zanzibar and Buganda (Uganda). The Zanzibari used to control commerce in East and Central Africa - numerous Kenyan tribes including the Kamba and Masai used to sell slaves to them in exchange for beads. The Kamba even sold their own tribes folk. When slavery ended in Zanzibar and Buganda it by default ended in much of East Africa although the Abyssinians (Ethiopians) who were an independent African Nation kept it going until the middle of the 20th Century. @conradped.7527

In Zambia, the Asian community took over the economic place previously occupied by the colonial British. What followed was a 27 year period of Asian racial & economic discrimination against the indigenous people. This, of course was ignored by then Zambian Kenneth Kaunda who seemed to have converted to Hinduism. The tide only shifted & humbled the Asians when government changed hands & the economic extension of the former colonial (British) power's were ushered back in to save the ailing sanction hit economy.

A country where its people are not in charge of their business is a country of slaves. General Idi Amin is a legend. Enemies of Africa can demonize him as much as they want. This Tutsi Museveni thinks he is now a saint. We have good memories of the genocides he orchestrated in Uganda and the games he has been playing against the Congo. Is he not a longtime US CIA agent?
Can Africans thrive in business in India? No, because these people are in command of their environment. Africans too must be in command in their own environment. That's why Indians are at war with the Chinese. And I can tell you all of them see Africa as a place to get resources.
If forced to move to England was such a gain then why do some want to come back to Uganda? My cousin went to do IT-Studies in India and he was forced to leave India after his course. But these people think they should just come and settle in Africa and exploit the people.
What Africans should ask themselves is: Do these Indians in Africa respect them?

Great video, thank you so much. One small correction - Amin was overthrown in 1979 but not by Museveni. Museveni was part of the team at the time that fought to remove him. Uganda's President Admits: Expelling in 1972 The Asians especially those from India and Pakistan . Those Asians came to help the British building the railways from Uganda to Kenya .. They settle in Uganda open small business and monopolize the trade . Most of them didn't integrate , mix or marriage with the local indigenous African . In the Eyes of Idi Amin those immigrants were as a bad as the British . In the past those Indians never considered the indigenous local Africans as human beings . Until Today Africans living in India experience racism .

Amin's weaknesses are overly exaggerated because the story is being told by his enemies/rivals (e.g. Museveni, the British etc).
For one, Amin was not racist. It was the largely in-ward looking Indian community which was racist, through their strict refusal to integrate with Black Ugandans.
One must also appreciate the relationship (tension) between the blacks and Indians at this point. In the colonial era, the British ring fenced commerce for Indians thereby excluding Blacks. This favouritism coupled with the Indian's already superior capabilities in commerce meant that Indians utterly dominated Uganda's economy. This soured relations between the Indians and the blacks.
Secondly, there were two types of Indians in Uganda, those with Ugandan papers, and those with British Documents. Amin saw great danger in Uganda's economy being controlled by foreigners (Indians with British papers), so he demanded that they relinquish their ties to Britain, obtain Ugandan citizenship or risk expulsion. They opted for British allegiance and were subsequently expelled. Indians families of Ugandan nationality, which also treated local communities well, remained and continued trading. An example is the family of the famous Industrialist Amir Karmali, locally known as Mukwano, a Luganda word meaning "Friend".
Point is, one has to consider the socioeconomic and political reasoning behind Idi Amin's actions....the expulsion of Asians (Indians) was not merely an act of barbarism or stupidity.

Musiveni is a strong leader. Gen Idi Amin made a mistake in getting us out of Uganda because we were racist against the blacks in their own country. We separated ourselves from the blacks and looked down on them so Amin returned back the racism and told us to leave the country if we dont want to integrate. We were both wrong back then and two wrongs dont make a right. We were wrong against the indigenous folks and it came back to bite us in the rear. I hope next time we go live in black countries we will live better and get along with everyone around us and not be racist towards them.
