People say representation doesn't matter but it does. As a gay kid growing up in the 2000's, seeing gay relationships normalized in media probably would have hastened my realization, if not, made me hate myself less.
Edit: turns out I'm actually Asexual, and homoromantic. That's probably confusing to most people, (hmm it's almost like sex/gender education are severely lacking) I have never felt sexual attraction, some aces do in certain situations others don't. I can and have fallen in love. If someone told me asexuality was a thing I wouldn't have wasted so much time. I spent a lot of my teenage years looking for someone that was attractive but no one was. Started just looking at the girls cause i used to be a good ol heteronormative boy. After YEARS of nothing and while in high-school I decide to broaden my search to gender non-conformists and boys. Still nothing , "why are none of you attractive" was a thought that went through my mind in school once.
I eventually formed a crush on one of my friends and that's when I started to accept myself for not being str8 and where my journey began.
Anyways, figuring out that you don't feel something everyone tells you, is part of human nature and everyone will feel is hard.
The biggest myth of human cultures are that, everyone will feel sexual attraction and romantic love.
If we told kids about that, what would happen, nothing besides 1% of individuals, ace and aros, will have an easier time. You may get a few dummies who think they must be acearo, cause they just aren't fully developed, but as soon as they hit puberty they're gonna know who they're attracted to if anyone.

This. I get annoyed when ppl, even ppl within the LGBT community, criticize the inclusion of gay or non-traditional characters. To have characters that aren't just straight white men in media, to show that we exist, that has a positive effect on a community's self esteem. Ppl will sometimes decry that including them is pandering or bad writing (regardless of whether or not its the creator's wish to create a character that they or others related to) but where is the line when it no longer becomes pandering? If it even existed in the first place.

If you're making the assumption that any of these youtubers has to the time to moderate the comment sections full time or that they'd care too even if they could, that's a bit idiotic people. Reality is if you use certain words there seems to be an algorithm that auto-deletes your post after a while. Being toxic in comments myself I notice it's sometimes instant too. Might be that some deletes are only triggered in combination with a report or something. I've noticed on dead abandoned youtube channels, while arguing with others, if we used the R slur a lot, our posts would be instantly deleted, and eventually the main comment would be deleted. The more toxic the comment section the more likely the main comment was deleted outright.
Almost a year later and this episode is still a banger.
