Invitarla alla ns.Ass.ne Lirica è stata l'occasione per capire oltre alle sue capacità canore la sua cultura, come persona di grande umanità. Posso dire che Maria Callas è tutt'ora considerata "La divina" , con grande merito, altrettanto dico che la Olivero è da considerarla una "Interprete straodinaria" tanto che Cilea il compositore di"Adriana Lecouvteur" volle solo Lei alla prima dellopera. Cultura,persona affabile, umile come tutti i grandi artisti. Il suo ricordo rimane incancellabile. L' ultima esibizione l' ha fatta quasi centenaria Grande rispetto e stima anche per i suoi colleghi. MAGDA OLIVERO... riassume tutto il suo eccezzionale bagaglio di artista assoluta della lirica mondiale... un concerto di una portata enorme, per scelta del repertorio, per la vocalità estrema... e per la bellezza vocale unica... MAGDA OLIVERO è senza dubbio con la grande CALLAS in un repertorio diverso la cantante che per l'interpretazione, scenica e per la voce di una forza e di una estensione superlativa, arricchita dai pianissimo per poi spingerli al calor bianco, in super acuti che la sua vocalità riusciva a mantenere in maniera sublime.... in Traviata per la sua tecnica e vocalità.... solo MARIA CALLAS ha saputo pareggiarla in bravura... penso.... che MAGDA OLIVERO ... appunto per le sue doti interpretative.... per la voce estesissima.... di una purezza unica.... e sorprendente.... sia da ricordare come una delle cantanti liriche tra le prime di tutti i tempi nel panorama operistico mondiale.🙏

La padronanza della tecnica vocale, l'intelligenza interpretativa, la vastità della coloratura, il fraseggio limpido fanno di Magda una delle cantanti storiche indimenticabili e ineguagliabili! E forse la cantante più longeva in assoluto...cantava ancora con piena voce a 96 anni...
What a beautiful treat. This is canto espressivo at it's best. What a remarkable, unsurpassed artist. Even at a recital setting, the audience gets all the drama and emotional depth of each character. And that longevity is one of a kind. She is one of the greatest, and we have been blessed with her interviews as well where we can start to understand the depth of her understanding of what opera is and should be. Magnificent singing, the fact she never received the same devotion of Callas or Tebaldi is beyond me.

The program is mind-blowing, I can't recall any soprano giving such a numerous, taxing and emotional series of demanding arias with so much freshness and beauty of tones. Also, Magda Olivero's voice needs space to bloom, that is why conventional studio recordings do not do justice to her art of singing. That is why this concert is so memorable.

Gli attacchi precisi ....le sue messe di voci....e i pianissimo sono delle vere perle a parte le parole che volano controllate in un contesto dove l'eco potrebbe disturbare...invece lei lo sfrutta per tornire, vie più, il suo cesellare le sue eroine ...sublimate come forse non mai più Così!....mi spiego: ad ogni creatura pucciniana per esempio dona il rango e l'età e la condizione psicologica esatta...credo che tutti gli autori si siano dati appuntamento in San Jacopino?....con il pianista Splendido che scolpisce il suono rispettando l'enfasi creativa di una donna che era una vera leonessa da palcoscenico. Ma anche le altre eroine gettate spesso in gole di ferro . ma lontane dal suo lunare sentire queste donne ...estraendo dalle parole tutto il dolore espresso dall'autore con arcate vocali degne di una cupola del Brunelleschi come volesse risarcirle della loro Sorte avversa in cui forse un pò si identificava.. ......e bene le fece se poi ebbe come controcanto una vita longeva e piena di ...come le chiamava lei; le piccole gioie che a CENTO anni le facevano dire ancora Cose molto saggie e senza patetiche scuse . ....una sera a Milano con la signora Tebaldi mi raccontarono (anche la Genger più appartata) del loro assoluto rispetto e gratitudine versoi Tullio Serafin al quale erano grate per quello che aveva loro insegnato: proprio lei diceva che cantava insieme a lei e i suoi suggerimenti erano preziosi poichè aveva sempre ragione...e se il cantante non era in serata lui lo capiva e aiutava...calmando l'orchestra ... scusi questo ricordo... Che gioia ...Denis Roberto che Dio e anche sua Madre la benedica.

Ho avuto la fortuna di con scerla personalmente nel 1970 Artista di talento straordinario ha cantato oltre i 90 anni con una tecnica dei fiati straordinaria. Oltre a questo diceva che avrebbe amato recitare. Abbiamo avuto la fortuna si festeggiarla nel suo 100 compleanno. Quel giorno ha raccontato per oltre un ora la sua carriera con grande umiltà da grande Signora ricordando i molti colleghi con stima e riconoscenza. Non ci sono state solo le grandi Callas e Tebaldi ma anche la magnifica Magda Oliveto.

So often Magda Olivero's singing was breathtaking . Her technique allowed her to refine her voice to a thread of sound or expand it , but always at the service of the music , text and character. We hear that in this unique concert. We all respond to a singer's timbre of voice differently and that is fine and only natural. Olivero's timbre was truly individual. I love the vulnerability in that timbre. I also feel that there is a lot of 'faceless' singing these days, lacking that individuality, Olivero's singing was never 'faceless.' These recording are so precious and a big thank you to Olivero Archives for all your hard work in bringing them to us.
i dont know if you are reading these comments any more as you downloaded this 3 years ago but i wanted to thank you so much for adding this . i first heard her in 1980 and have been hooked ever since. she was truly a mystic in the opera house. i have heard it almost every day for probably a month. i also downloaded it to my Facebook page. thanks so much again. wish i could permanently download it to my computer or buy a cd of it. it really transports me to another realm . xoxo
Thank you for your comments, Magda Olivero is truly unique in the annals of opera, her profound understanding of the role she is portraying goes beyond the music, she makes you live all her fillings through a well trained voice that is totally free in its expression. In the early seventies, in New York, when the "pirated" tape of the San Jacopino concert was circulating amongst aficionados, the reaction was overwhelming. Their wasn't a gathering of opera lovers without listening or raving about the concert, to the point that they had even made a car sticker saying: MAGDA TURNS YOU ON" So I can very well understand the feeling that you have of being transported into an other realm, a place where rarely only an truly exceptional artist can take you. Since your not the first person that ask me for a download or a cd of the concert, I thinking of some kind of arrangement that would be faisable.

Моему впечатлению от концерта мешали постоянные и производящие впечатление навязчивых переключение от ppp к ff и fff. Динамические нюансы способны произвести впечатление, когда они появляются на фоне устойчивого основного звучания. Кушанье не может состоять из одних специй. Иначе возникает, как здесь, впечатление динамической пестроты, капризной и произвольной до истеричности. Если бы я и не знал возраста певицы, я бы догадался о нем по этому признаку, который, кстати, часто помогает замаскировать некоторые не вполне блистательные ноты(как финальная нота в Un bel di vedremo - ограничусь одним примером). То же можно сказать и о нескольких случаях ритмического комканья. Справедливость требует отметить, что подобное невозможно встретить ни у Каллас, ни у Тебальди, ни у Сазерленд, ни у Кабалье в пору, когда их пик уже был позади. С этой оговоркой я готов восхищаться и замечательной красоты тембром, и проникновенной эмоциональностью, и тонкой музыкальностью исполнения. Ещё раз спасибо, Денис, за доставленное удовольствие.
You obviously did not take time to read the Introduction: "the natural echo of the church created a most entrancing atmosphere" There is absolutely no ARTIFICIAL reverberation beside the natural echo of a large church, what you hear is what I heard in the church. You seem to judge a voice by how "big" it is, for me what is important is the control, the phasing, the legatos, the dynamics, (forte, pianissimo, crescendo) and the feelings in the interpretation. If "size" is you criteria stick with Tebaldi.

The program is mind-blowing, I can't recall any soprano giving such a numerous, taxing and emotional series of demanding arias with so much freshness and beauty of tones. Also, Magda Olivero's voice needs space to bloom, that is why conventional studio recordings do not do justice to her art of singing. That is why this concert is so memorable.

che regalo a tutti i suoi ammiratori....e anche alla cultura del bel canto.... assoluta Regina dei rubato come delle accelerazioni usando gli armonici come un violino/viola/violoncello; a seconda del personaggio. Gli attacchi precisi ....le sue messe di voci....e i pianissimo sono delle vere perle a parte le parole che volano controllate in un contesto dove l'eco potrebbe disturbare...invece lei lo sfrutta per tornire, vie più, il suo cesellare le sue eroine ...sublimate come forse non mai più Così!....mi spiego: ad ogni creatura pucciniana per esempio dona il rango e l'età e la condizione psicologica esatta...credo che tutti gli autori si siano dati appuntamento in San Jacopino?....con il pianista Splendido che scolpisce il suono rispettando l'enfasi creativa di una donna che era una vera leonessa da palcoscenico. Ma anche le altre eroine gettate spesso in gole di ferro . ma lontane dal suo lunare sentire queste donne ...estraendo dalle parole tutto il dolore espresso dall'autore con arcate vocali degne di una cupola del Brunelleschi come volesse risarcirle della loro Sorte avversa in cui forse un pò si identificava..
......e bene le fece se poi ebbe come controcanto una vita longeva e piena di ...come le chiamava lei; le piccole gioie che a CENTO anni le facevano dire ancora Cose molto saggie e senza patetiche scuse .
....una sera a Milano con la signora Tebaldi mi raccontarono (anche la Genger più appartata) del loro assoluto rispetto e gratitudine versoi Tullio Serafin
al quale erano grate per quello che aveva loro insegnato: proprio lei diceva che cantava insieme a lei e i suoi suggerimenti erano preziosi poichè aveva sempre ragione...e se il cantante non era in serata lui lo capiva e aiutava...calmando l'orchestra ... scusi questo ricordo...

Funny how much I adore this singer without really caring for the voice!
Because Magda Olivero's art is total, the voice is only one part of this legendary artist.
So often Magda Olivero's singing was breathtaking . Her technique allowed her to refine her voice to a thread of sound or expand it , but always at the service of the music , text and character. We hear that in this unique concert. We all respond to a singer's timbre of voice differently and that is fine and only natural. Olivero's timbre was truly individual. I love the vulnerability in that timbre. I also feel that there is a lot of 'faceless' singing these days, lacking that individuality, Olivero's singing was never 'faceless.' These recording are so precious and a big thank you to Olivero Archives for all your hard work in bringing them to us.

i dont know if you are reading these comments any more as you downloaded this 3 years ago but i wanted to thank you so much for adding this . i first heard her in 1980 and have been hooked ever since. she was truly a mystic in the opera house. i have heard it almost every day for probably a month. i also downloaded it to my Facebook page. thanks so much again. wish i could permanently download it to my computer or buy a cd of it. it really transports me to another realm . xoxo
Thank you for your comments, Magda Olivero is truly unique in the annals of opera, her profound understanding of the role she is portraying goes beyond the music, she makes you live all her fillings through a well trained voice that is totally free in its expression. In the early seventies, in New York, when the "pirated" tape of the San Jacopino concert was circulating amongst aficionados, the reaction was overwhelming. Their wasn't a gathering of opera lovers without listening or raving about the concert, to the point that they had even made a car sticker saying: MAGDA TURNS YOU ON" So I can very well understand the feeling that you have of being transported into an other realm, a place where rarely only an truly exceptional artist can take you. Since your not the first person that ask me for a download or a cd of the concert, I thinking of some kind of arrangement that would be faisable.

Спасибо за замечательный концерт, Денис. Все комментарии выдержаны в мажоре, словно симфония Гайдна. Поэтому для разнообразия я позволю себе небольшую модуляцию в параллельный минор. Моему впечатлению от концерта мешали постоянные и производящие впечатление навязчивых переключение от ppp к ff и fff. Динамические нюансы способны произвести впечатление, когда они появляются на фоне устойчивого основного звучания. Кушанье не может состоять из одних специй. Иначе возникает, как здесь, впечатление динамической пестроты, капризной и произвольной до истеричности. Если бы я и не знал возраста певицы, я бы догадался о нем по этому признаку, который, кстати, часто помогает замаскировать некоторые не вполне блистательные ноты(как финальная нота в Un bel di vedremo - ограничусь одним примером). То же можно сказать и о нескольких случаях ритмического комканья. Справедливость требует отметить, что подобное невозможно встретить ни у Каллас, ни у Тебальди, ни у Сазерленд, ни у Кабалье в пору, когда их пик уже был позади. С этой оговоркой я готов восхищаться и замечательной красоты тембром, и проникновенной эмоциональностью, и тонкой музыкальностью исполнения. Ещё раз спасибо, Денис, за доставленное удовольствие.

These tapes that add artificial reberverance are so deceptive. The voice here sounds as big as Tebaldi’s. I heard Olivero in the theater. It wasn’t.
You obviously did not take time to read the Introduction: "the natural echo of the church created a most entrancing atmosphere" There is absolutely no ARTIFICIAL reverberation beside the natural echo of a large church, what you hear is what I heard in the church. You seem to judge a voice by how "big" it is, for me what is important is the control, the phasing, the legatos, the dynamics, (forte, pianissimo, crescendo) and the feelings in the interpretation. If "size" is you criteria stick with Tebaldi.
@@themagdaoliveroarchives9199 OK about the church. My real irritation is this ‘remastering’ process that puts every singer in the shower sonically and is completely untrue to what I remember from the theater.
@@ransomcoates546 I totally agree with you, this artificial "reverb-echo" added to remastering is very irritating and totally unnecessary, but what you hear in the atmosphere of the church is not. By the way, where and when did you heard Olivero and also Tebaldi live in the theater?
