This is a miracle. A singer of Olivero´s age with an almost full register, the capability to still have a messa di voce, attacks and crescendo/decrescendo as if it wasn´t a problem at all. Sopranos who have this role in their repertoires are often less convincing than Olivero is here. Every student should study and listen carefully to such an example of wisdom in building a career and having a singing voice that seems to last forever.
For all of those who criticized her for her style and voice, nothing says, "kiss my ass", better than this performance. She's a true artist and had the blessing of the composer to do it her way

Cantare " Io son l'umile ancella" cosi a 83 anni e semplicemente un miracolo della natura. Io soffro quando sento dei soprani abordare quest'aria con 40 anni di meno. Gli acuti calanti sono quasi di rigore.
Penso che La Magda Olivero, Angelo Loforese e Lauri Volpi sono stati e sono tutt`ora esempi di longevità vocale dai quali c'è sempre piu` di qualcosa da imparare.....
Concordo , Magda Olivero aveva ( ha ) una tecnica sbalorditiva e una tenuta dei fiati degna di una ventenne e così si può dire di Angelo Lo Forese e Lauri Volpi, ma sono stati anche fortunati ad avere una salute di ferro.....

It is creepy to watch an 83 year old woman singing this kind of music. She can still sort of do it....it's true....but it's very creepy. She just couldn't let go of her career. Narcissists are steadfast in their need for approval and acclimation. It makes me sad for her. Personally, I never liked her edgy old sounding voice which was even like that years earlier. She was certainly an acquired taste. I never got it.

Il 15 agosto di ogni anno (che in Italia è una festività religiosa, Ferragosto) Magda Olivero cantava nella chiesetta di Solda (un delizioso paesino di montagna a 1950 metri di altitudine, dove trascorreva le vacanze) un piccolo brano liturgico, ad es. il Panis angelicus. Era una cosa bella e dignitosa. Avrebbe dovuto limitarsi a questo. Ma evidentemente era circondata da giovani o meno giovani cattivi consiglieri
I don't understand these kinds of complaints. She still wanted to sing, people (I think rightfully, but whatever) still thought she had something to offer. She wasn't dragging herself all over the big stages anymore, singing large big roles she wasn't fit to sing (unlike some older star nowadays), but sang in recitals, private gatherings. Especially the reference to narcissism seems entirely unfair. Having a hard time saying goodbye to a career does not make one a narcissist. I'm grateful we have this record, because if anything it proves how big a chunk of singing comes from technique, not the intrinsic beauty of the voice.
