This video is going over possibilities for the Fa family's status in Ancient China, as well as speculating on Fa Zhou's history.
I am only adding this to my Disney Princess list because DISNEY considers Mulan a princess, I personally do not agree (I think she's better/more as a warrior).

A bit of "evidence" that Fa Zhou is very important/respected is that while he is walking to get his conscription scroll, EVERYONE including an older man, move out of his way.
A bit late to comment BUT this might be totally true because in the Spanish version of the movie while in English Shang refers to him as "THE Fa Zhou" in Spanish his line is "Fa Zhou? The hero?"
Fa Zhou was always my favorite character in Mulan. His respect for his country and his daughter has always spoken to me on a deep deep level.
And it breaks me heart when she defends him and he has to yell at her. You can tell he doesn't want to do that, but he has to for show.

In some versions of Mulan she did have a sister and a little brother
I believe what I heard is that she had a younger brother, but he was like 10 and would have died in battle quickly.
Interesting theory. I really like how you detailed the dragon's different meanings.
I knew someday that all those East Asian history classes would come in handy! And there was also a thing that the emperor often used red and gold, and he was the only one who could as they represented blood and money, or power overall.

Pretty close to my fanfiction. I like to imagine the emperor is Emperor Wendi of the Sui. In his conquest to become emperor, General Li was an officer and Fa Zhou was a part of his army. Since they both helped Wendi become emperor, they were both rewarded. However, Fa Zhou asks for a large plot of land in the country for his reward and the emper grants it, while the general remains in service, rising in rank.
After General Li left Shang in charge (which maybe Shang was hoping to get that position but uncertain if his father would grant it), you can see him ride off with other soldiers dresses similarly to Shang. These calvary members were probably part of an advanced unit, and there may be more captains being dropped off at other camps. Fa Zhou's army didn't match theirs, but maybe he was a part of that more advanced army unit and would have left with them.

You addressed all the questions I've always had considering this movie and even manage to find possible explanations to them; good job!
Well, while not exactly related to the Disney version of China Dynasty Warriors does have an NPC general named Fa Zho and the series does have characters loosely based on real historical figures from the Romance of the three kingdoms. I don't exactly remember what his bio says, but usually they include characters even NPCs that have something noteworthy.
And thats why this is the best Disney movie by far....

The Fa family seems to not be very traditional when it comes to their lifestyle. I watched Xiran Jay Zhao’s video where she provided some perspective on what was a hit and miss for Chinese culture in the movie and it makes the Fa family seem less traditional than you might think

i'm in the play mulan right now studying the lines and this theory very much makes a lot of sense.
i now plays do change alot of things from the movie (like adding in a song from the seconf movie!) but this time for the play im in this theory acctually makes alot of sense!
also is there a theory of "The Great Stone Dragon"? i checked on your channel but you didn't seem to have one.
The gGreat Stone Dragon didn't wake up, why? is it possible that he already knew that he didn't have to help? and if mushu broke the statue what happens the dragon is it just gone now?
I have not talked about the Stone Dragon as a theory, but I do remember bringing it up while recording "Talking Through Mulan," which will be out next week. :)
But, to give you a little spoiler for that video: the best I can figure is that the dragon doesn't wake up because he's already been reincarnated as Mulan, or he's given his spirit to her. That's why she has this warrior spirit and why she's surrounded by dragon imagery a lot.
