    Walking out of movies like Finding Dory, Cars 3 and even Moana I was unsure initially on how much I would love and remember these films while films like Zootopia and Frozen gave me a feeling I was watching cinema history unfold. For Coco, I felt I was seeing a classic. I hope, if you live in the United States, you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and got the chance to go see Disney Pixar’s Coco because, there will be spoilers ahead, and I thought it was amazing. Coco was wonderful AND full of some extremely interesting lore which is why I am diving into one aspect of the film: Dante. Dante, the loyal Xolo dog to Miguel, may seem like an average dog, but by looking into the legends and traditions of the Xolo breed we can discover Dante’s true power.
    I post every Tuesday and Thursday, so check back then for more Disney, Pixar, Harry Potter, Star Wars and movie videos! If you have any questions about the Disney universe that you would want answered in a video, please ask away in the comment section!

    Nice video - thanks for the lore behind the Zolo dog!
    The only thing I disagree with is about Dante being an Alebrije all along.
    I believe that Dante earned his status as an Alebrije after saving Miguel in the underworld. Only then he was transforming and becoming an Alebrije - an official soul guide.
    The supporting evidence to this is his surprise and even fear when he begins to change colour, the fact that his wings are so small and underdeveloped (as well as his control over them), and the fact that right at the end of the movie, we can actually see Pepita (the giant Alebrije that helps Miguel's Grand-grandmother) traversing into the real world as a regular cat.
    This leads me to believe that maybe all animals can traverse between the worlds of the living and the dead, and as time passes and they perform more deeds of guidance, they become much more powerful and wondrous.

    • @shadowkissed2370
      @shadowkissed2370 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Except cats said to be able to walk between the living and the dead. I dont think its all animals I just think it a specific type of animals that mythologically had dealing with the dead.

    • @TheHPExperiment

      I like this theory. Then all pets can be spirit guides, even hamsters, birds, or snakes. 😊

    • @mjthegray
      @mjthegray 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is a scene where Miguel and his family (from the land of the dead) enter the land of the dead. The portal makes them shift a bit, which is expected. But for Dante, the portal doesn’t shift, which leads me to believe that his fate to be the bridge between the living and dead world.
      Your theory is valid and strong, but after seeing that scene my take is that while he did earn it, it was his fate to be an Alebrije to cross that world and back.

    In Frozen some people had problems with Huns being a twisted villain because it felt like they just did that for the sake of fooling the audience. But in Coco we find out who is the bad guy and who is the good guy half way through AND how those two characters has something in common and how they were related.

      I am Mexican, born and raised in Mexico until I was 9, so I grew up around plenty of traditions, so I really love all the details in the movie, from the way the town looks likevan authentic Mexican town, to the blink-and-you'll-miss cameos from many famous Mexican icons, including people like Cantinflas (one of Mexici's greatest comedic actors), Pedro Infante (one of the greatest singers in Mexucan history who Ernesto de la Cruz is partially based on), El Santo (one of the greatest luchadores in history, so famous for never revealing his face until after his retirement), and many more celebrities who I can't remember but I recalled being excited to see when they appeared

At first I didn’t want to watch it then I went to see and I don’t regret it a bit. When I found out that chorizo literally means 'sausage/hot dog' in Spanish, I wouldn't have been surprised if that was the way Hector died. They are great choking hazards and sadly, claim the lives of people each year.

    • @PunkHime89
      @PunkHime89 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Vivaldithe2nd Reptiles and Amphibians lol, don’t worry chorizo is not an ACTUAL sausage, though it is packaged like one. It actually has more of a packed smeary ground beef consistency. It sounds weird, but it’s basically almost dissolves when cooked, so it’s usually added when cooking foods like eggs and beans. And while you can cook and eat chorizo by itself, it’s not going to be shaped like a cut up sausage.

    One thing I noticed is that Dante actually has references to two different "Land of the Dead" stories; Dante is the main character in "The Divine Comedy", which is about a man journeying through the afterlife, interestingly he's accompanied by a poet named Virgil. Granted Divine Comedy is more of a guided tour and the roles of the main characters are reversed (In Coco Dante is the guide and in Divine Comedy Virgil is), but it's sort of interesting that they managed to have two completely different afterlife stories referenced in the same character

    I'm a Xolo owner. They did an absolutely perfect job at capturing the small quirks of the breed with Dante's animation. Their tongues really do flop out like that due to their unique teeth. I believe that all Xolos are, by default, spirit guides❤

    Actually, Dante is just a Xolo. Xolo dogs are seen as spirit guides just as much as Alebrijes.

    You do a theory video on how Turbo took over Sugar Rush in Wreck-it Ralph after Turbo Time was unplugged, and became King Candy. I’ve been wondering that for years.

    I loved how when we first saw Dante he was in a trash next to the table with the Alebrijes

  • @kas4485
    @kas4485 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I honestly think that Dante was Hector's alebrije like pepita (cat) was his wife's alebrije. Dante has spent his time in the living world trying to guide someone in the family to find out about Hector. What confirmed it was Miguel's grandmothers comment on "naming a street dog and it will follow you," plus the foreshadowing in the beginning of the movie where Dante was introduced next to the alebrije figurines table

    Augh, such a great movie. I definitely cried and I also went to go see it three times! Great video, dude! I love how interested people like you are in the lore of Coco. As an indigenous Mexican-American, it brings a great smile to my face to see people learn about our culture. Also, in case you care, it's pronounced more like "sholo" than "zolo!"

    Hello PixarFahns PixarGirl here and I have a challenge for Isaac
    ...
    *Can you PLZ do a vid on Cruz' s origins and why her family didn't wanted her to be a racer? °-•* I know she said that her family was only trying to protect her, but I think there is still some secret behind this situation.
    Also I didn't watched the movie yet since I got sick on Thanksgiving Break cause of my young brother. (I have 3... only girl)
    I already love Coco cause of this vid. Man this underworld stuff reminds me of Percy Jackson. *VIVA MEXICO MIS COMPASS QUE YO SOY MEXICAN ASTAL TOPE!!!*
    Translated: Viva mexico my friends!!! Cause I am Mexican to the top and bottom!!!
    ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️(my thumbs hurt cause all of this typing on the keyboard on my phone.)

    Dante should be on Elena of Avalor, He is a spirit guide like Zuzo the spirit fox.

  • @frollealabanks2020

    When I went and saw the movie Coco in theaters, Dante reminded me of my fursona “Frolly the fox”! Coincidentally, he almost had the exact same expressions and personality (especially when he’s excited or freaking out) as Frolly from my own cartoon series, and not to mention the magic and Halloween theme! WHAT!?!
