I used to buy Primal Kitchen but it was pricey. In Canada, I found French's no sugar ketchup. It's delicious and tasted like the real thing at a much lower price. The ingredients are clean as well (tomato paste, white vinegar, water, salt, Stevia extract, seasoning). The texture is thick as well. I love it.
@@binglamb2176 French's is my favourite, both taste wise and price wise. It's the same price as regular French's, so I can often get it for under $4 on sale, whereas Primal is at least double that. Yeah me too. I used to make my own, but it was very labor intensive. When I tried French's No Sugar....it was so much like regular Heinz, I made it my regular go-to sugar free ketchup. Is it only found here in Canada?

Primal Kitchen has an organic & unsweetened version that I really like. It has 10 calories & 2 carbs per tablespoon, no sugar or any other sugar substitute. Tangy taste to it and the cleanest ingredients I've seen.
Thank you for taste testing and rating all of these-I was thinking I was missing out because we've only been getting the Heinz no sugar added. It's been the easiest to get at my grocery store.
Hi Steve and Courtney! Good evaluation!! I have not seen the Ketchup Please in Colorado, but sure agree on the others. I usually alternate between the Heinz and Primal Kitchen depending on sales. I do like that the Heinz saves me a carb.😊
You two make such a good team on the review. Thanks for sharing your findings. I love ketchup so always appreciate input from others to figure out what I want to get.
I can get my carb eating family on board with Heinz. I very rarely do ketchup only... but I have made a 'big mac sauce' with the Heinz for our burger bowls.
Excellent test. Steve, you have said this many times, you would not show it unless you did not spike your BG, so I trust that. I don't use ketchup often anymore but when I do I have the Heinz. Reason is because every grocery store has that. It is expensive compared to "normal" Ketchup but tastes like normal ketchup. The G-Huges I only buy for the BBQ sauce. I like several flavors and they are also too watery like the ketchup. Primal ketchup is way too expensive. Thank you for the test. I feel good now to continue buying Heinz. I made my own before. Its easy and also great but it does not last that long and I got lazy.
G Hughes does make a decent BBQ sauce, although once we found a sugar free Sweet Baby Ray's. My husband found it, but of course, he can't remember where, and I've not seen it since. 😢
@@maidenminnesota1 It is marketed as "Ray's" and not Sweet Baby Rays, in the sugar free version. I wonder if that would make it easier for you to find? All our big markets have it including Walmart.
Thanks for the reviews. I ordered the Primal Kitchen ketchup a year or so ago and didn’t really like it, so I went back to Heinz Sugar Free… I hadn’t even noticed that they’d changed from sucralose to stevia, so I had to check the label on my current bottle and wow, stevia. I had been mixing GHuges with regular ketchup for a couple of years to compromise because the Huges was too thin and vinegary for me. This week I discovered the no sugar Heinz so I bought it but haven't tried it yet. I'm glad you gave it a good rating.
The closest we have to a local sugar free ketchup is French's. They restarted the Canadian factory after Heinz abruptly shutdown and laid everyone off. I agree with your G. Hughs assessment.
Yes, the French’s is the best. Haven’t tried the Heinz just because why get the one with sucralose when you can get the stevia-sweetened French’s. Also there’s a stevia-sweetened one from President’s Choice’s Blue Menu but there are two versions so make sure you’re getting the right one.
Great video! I've been using the Heinz for years (when I don't make my own) because it is the cleanest in terms of ingredients and does cost less. Thanks for confirming my choice Steve & Courtney!! ♥️
I like the way you both gave more detail of what the back notes were. I like Heinz for just basic ketchup flavor but the other ones bring a little bit of something else. Its nice to have variety so you can enhance whatever you are using it for. Good job !
Thank you Steve and Courtney for the great review! I normally buy the Primal Kitchen, but after seeing this I am going to try the Heinz so I can save some money.
Thank you for this review. Catsup isn't something I use a lot, but kind of a staple item to have, so very nice to have a this review. Thank you very much.
I’ve only tried Heinz and Primal and I have both in the house. I got a great deal on Primal a few months ago and stocked up (3.99 a container). Normally it is around $6 in the stores around here. I like Heinz and use it often. I am not a fan of most of G. Hughes only because of the use of Sucralose but I have tried a few of their sauces and buy them occasionally. The Caribbean Jerk is pretty good although not as spicy as it should be. Great review guys!!
Thanks Steve and Courtney for your evaluation. I would give the 2 carb with honey a miss. Not sure about cane alcohol in the ketchup up please. To me I thought Hines had the cleanest ingredients so I’ll stick with it. The Hines definitely taste more like ketchup. Thanks for another great review.
Great video as always and with Courtney its a plus.....I havent bought any "KETO" ketchup since ive been making yours(like forever) I would if I had to buy the Heinz or Primal kitchen but that other one #3 sounds interesting because you said it has a roasted taste and I like that...Julianna NC
I have also tried the "Good Food Good For You" ketchup. It's sweetened with dates. Per serving is 1g sugar and total carb 2g. It is darker in color and is tomatoey. It's ok but Heinz spices are more like catsup
I agree the Heinz is number 1 if you're looking for ketchup as close to the real thing for taste and texture. I will tell you if you have a Meier in your area, they have a sugar free that is really comparable and 2 bucks cheaper than Heinz. I will have to look at ingredients to see if comparable. My BF is diabetic and it doesn't spike his blood sugar. Thanks for sharing!!
I agree w/the Heinz. It tastes so good, why would anyone use the one filled w/sugar-aside from the price. It still blows my mind the price we have to pay to get healthier food. Drives me nuts! I really do like the G Hughes for a big mac sauce due to it being a bit sweeter tasting. Thanks for sharing!!
Courtney had a memorable statement about the heinz no sugar added that she would buy It because It's the cheapest one.I love the way she said that but nevertheless I make your recipe for my keto ketchup. Thanks Steve you two did an Excellent review.
Thanks for your research Steve! Ketchup is something that I always had strong opinions on- the only thing I ever used it for was French fries. After trying a bunch of keto French fry replacement recipes and not finding one that I thought was a valid replacement I just gave up on ketchup since I was not going to ever need it on my keto journey. And then I remembered cocktail sauce for shrimp, which is almost always full of ingredients that have useless carbs in them so I do keep a bottle of the primal kitchen ketchup in my pantry to mix with horseradish when I make shrimp cocktail. Frankly even way before starting keto I never understood why ketchup had any sweetener in it anyway.
I get the Heinz. Seems good to me. *But haven't had "regular" ketchup in a few years. Plus? My taste for sweet has completely changed. Mildly sweet foods or sauces taste like pure sugar now. Thanks you two!
Thanks for doing this! I've been using Heinz no sugar added for several years now and have loved it, but when they replaced the sweetener they were using with stevia a year or so ago, I thought it was terrible (I can't bear any amount of stevia in anything--it leaves a bad, bitter aftertaste.) Now I make my own Heinz knockoff and it's the best ketchup I have ever had!
Thank you for your comparison. I thought my only option was the C. G. Hugh’s ketchup. I am going to try the Heinz version as it is cheaper and easier to find in stock.
I was interested in your review of Heinz as that’s what I use. I find it tastes exactly the same as the regular type. Plus cost is the cheapest (I only shop sales) I’m happy to see you liked this brand also. I was afraid it would bomb. lol! Always love your reviews
Hi, Steve- The Regular Primal Kitchen Ketchup has no added sugars, vs the 'tad bit sweet' version containing 1 gram from the honey. I like the original, but I do mix it with Frank's Original Hot Sauce. Only use it to top my carnivore meatloaf. 😋
We use Ketchup Please. Been buying it for a few years from a nice young man at the local farmers market in Greenfield, WI. It’s also available at some of our local grocery stores including Sendiks and Meijer.
My wife went into labor on Friday the 13th and the Hospital gave her a shot and stopped the labor. She went into labor again 1 week later and gave birth on Friday the 20th. We have about 7 different Katsups and about 9 different bottles of Mustard. We use them for everything from Potato Salad to Meatloaf, to BBQ sauces, to our version of Mac Sauce. We also have several types of Mayonnaise and Miricle Whip. We are fixing to use two different low carb breads to make Croutons and then make Stuffing, so we have Low Carb Stuffing for the Holidays. Using HERO Bread and SOLA Bread to make the Croutons and to make the Stuffing from Croutons.
I was just trying to decide which one to buy! Heinz has always been my favorite and I don't eat sucralose. So I'll stick with the Heinz brand and buy the No Sugar. Thanks!
Been a fan of the Heinz for some time now, although we rarely use it for fear of a blood sugar spike. It works very well when making sugar free BBQ sauce since everything out there tends to have sucralose in it. We use allulose as our sweetener as it has an Ozempic affect.
Thanks for the comparisons! I only wish that they were all in glass due to the acid from the vinegar and tomato leaching endocrine disruptors from the plastic!
Primal kitchen also makes the ketchup in glass but it is smaller size: 11.3 oz glass bottle. They have 2 versions. Both unsweetened but one is not spicy (no honey) and a spicy version. 🌶️ I love spicy so I hope they will later make them in bigger glass bottles as well
Thanks for this taste test. I have been looking for a replacement for your least favorite, as it has’t satisfied me. I should be able to source the Heinz., though it isn’t carried by my local grocery. I’m headed for your homemade ketchup video next to see if that would be even better. Thanks again!
I get the Heinze and my kids can't tell the difference between the no sugar and the sugar versions. When the Heinze is sold out(it seems to be popular) I get Primal Kitchen. It's only my backup because of price not taste, although you can get a small portion in a glass bottle that costs about what the squeeze bottle of Heinze costs. That's actually the organic version and it's good.
Suggestion for a future comparison: do an across the board comparison of the family of products put out by G Hughes. Most are very low cal in addition to low carbs. I like that family of products!
Sucralose doesn't agree with me so, G. Hughes is a no-go. PK had more carbs than the others and the cost is higher, so that's a no. The one isn't available in my area, so that's a no. Looks like Heinz for me...which is what I like anyway. Thank for the review.
I decided on the Heinz No Sugar several years ago. Surprising how keto clean it seems to be. GHughes for BBQ sauce. Luckily Mustard is pretty much zero carb.
I know I've been using the Heinz No Sugar Added for years... it's just what I prefer. Like you said, also affordable & (as of late) easier to find. I can't eat any of thy G. Hughes sauces, they're all too sweet for me. Just wish I could still find Ray's No Sugar Added BBQ sauces... but, our stores have dropped that line ( also made by G Hughes, from what I remember?).
For me, the Heinz ketchup packets from McDonald’s were always my favorite ketchup. Not sure why it was different from the store bought bottles, but it always was. I think that the vinegar was more forward in the packets, perfect for fries. The no sugar added version is very close to the McD’s ketchup packets.
Primal Kitchen is more expensive than steak but I love it. The Ketchup Please has “cane alcohol” which I assume is erythritol? Great review as always. Brilliant pair of testers!
It's listed as part of the stevia, so my guess is that they're using liquid stevia and that the "cane alcohol" is probably liquid erythritol or xylitol.
I love French's No Sugar ketchup now. It tastes the closest to regular Heinz that I have found....though I love my own better, it is quite labor intensive.
Thanks for the video. I've been carnivore for 7 months and no ketchup at all since I began. I live in Wisconsin, South of Madison near Stoughton. The bigger bottle of G Hughes is cheaper than Hines per ounce. I'd probably go for Hines after watching your comparisons. I'll have to look up the recipe for homework ketchup. Blessings and best regards from beautiful Wisconsin.
I used to eat the primal kitchen, and the price soared out of control. I’m in California and last I saw they wanted 13.00 for a small bottle. I went searching for another option and I was surprised to see how clean the Heinz was. I’ve been eating it ever since. Not to mention I’ve had so much trouble since I don’t like them to be too sweet, and don’t like the aftertaste of artificial sweeteners that are over done.
My local California Walmart stores carry Primal kitchen products including the unsweetened non-spicy smaller glass bottles for $6. I buy mine online for slightly cheaper with the discount so like ~ $5 and stock up on the 🌶️ version as I love sauces way too much 😅
@@Simply.Katelyn I think I’ve switched to Heinz at this point. Though always good to know that it’s been found cheaper. My Walmart hasn’t stocked it and typically I will find it at Safeway or Nob Hill, and sometimes Whole Foods. All places that charge premium prices. I use ketchup as a base for many of my sauces, including my keto sloppy joes. Thanks for the tip though!
Very interesting taste test. I am glad to know that the Primal Kitchen has a more vinegary taste than Heinz No Sugar Added because I can’t take Heinz at all. I can’t get through a burger or hotdog with the Heinz No Sugar. Way too much vinegar for me. I’d rather use regular ketchup. I’ve used the G Hughes before and I get where you’re coming from on that one. But I can tolerate it. What I would be interested in knowing is how you think your homemade ketchup compares to these other brands. Thanks to you and Courtney for a great taste test!😊
@@SeriousKeto Well I can understand that. But since I don’t like any of those other brands I think I’ll give it a try! Could be just what I’m looking for. Thanks Steve.😊
I’ve tried the G. Hughes and it’s too watery/thin for me, and the Ketchup Please…I like the spicy one with shrimp and a little more heat added. I haven’t tried the other two yet. Thank you both!
Been using G Hughes ketchup on ground beef for a while. Its not a real match for ketchup, but I do like the flavor. I mix the honey mustard 50/50 with melted butter for a dipping sauce for pork and chicken.
J Hughes makes a SS sauce as well but the Ketchup also has a little spice, I actually like it better than normal ketchup. It's definitely my number 1 by far but I also use almost all his products. I'm not sure what other Ketchups you guys have tried but the J Hughes taste more like most of the "custom" blends many restaurants have here in the south which I guess is what I have gotten use to over the years.
Thanks for this! No kidding, I was just looking for SF ketchup at HEB and did not purchase it as I wasn't sure which to pick (and Primal's too expensive). Im curious to know which beef dog you were eating. I love a great hot dog. ❤

My personal preference is French’s No Sugar added. I didn’t like Primal Kitchen. Heinz was okay. Thanks to you and Courtney for doing this taste test.
I haven’t seen French’s no sugar. I’ll need to keep an eye out.
I don't have the 3rd one, but for the other three, I agree. Heinz is #1. Primal K #2, maybe not sweet enough, #3 G. Hughes, too sweet, but yummy.
Wow, I actually picked the right ketchup all by myself. Heinz is the only one I've tried but it definitely tastes like real ketchup.
I love spicy so I hope they will later make them in bigger glass bottles as well
Thanks for this taste test. I have been looking for a replacement for your least favorite, as it has’t satisfied me. I should be able to source the Heinz., though it isn’t carried by my local grocery. I’m headed for your homemade ketchup video next to see if that would be even better. Thanks again!
Hope you enjoy
I get the Heinze and my kids can't tell the difference between the no sugar and the sugar versions. When the Heinze is sold out(it seems to be popular) I get Primal Kitchen. It's only my backup because of price not taste, although you can get a small portion in a glass bottle that costs about what the squeeze bottle of Heinze costs. That's actually the organic version and it's good.
Heinze No Sugar, reminds me of when I was a kid eating at Krolls restaurant in Green Bay
Suggestion for a future comparison: do an across the board comparison of the family of products put out by G Hughes. Most are very low cal in addition to low carbs. I like that family of products!
I've done other G Hughes reviews. Likely, I'll stick to the format of picking a particular product (BBQ sauce for example) and review multiple brands.
Sucralose doesn't agree with me so, G. Hughes is a no-go. PK had more carbs than the others and the cost is higher, so that's a no. The one isn't available in my area, so that's a no. Looks like Heinz for me...which is what I like anyway. Thank for the review.
@@Unknown-rb3ip Yeah but too much of a hassle. By the time you add in shipping and the wait time, it's not worth it...imo.
Great comparisons, thanks for sharing.
I decided on the Heinz No Sugar several years ago. Surprising how keto clean it seems to be. GHughes for BBQ sauce. Luckily Mustard is pretty much zero carb.
Thank you for sharing this.
I’ve used the Heinz No Sugar for quite awhile, and really love the taste.
I’ve never made the comparison.
Thanks for your video!
This made me check my Thrive ketchup ingredients, organic sugar is added, I was not aware
Thanks, was just thinking about Ketchup ‘cause I’m into it. Yep for Heinz using stevia.
would love to see comparisons on other standard condiments as well if you come across options.
Thank you for the taste test, I usually get the Heinze
Primal Kitchen is more expensive than steak but I love it. The Ketchup Please has “cane alcohol” which I assume is erythritol? Great review as always. Brilliant pair of testers!
It's listed as part of the stevia, so my guess is that they're using liquid stevia and that the "cane alcohol" is probably liquid erythritol or xylitol.
I love French's No Sugar ketchup now. It tastes the closest to regular Heinz that I have found....though I love my own better, it is quite labor intensive.
I love the Hughes. My store has it at $3. Definitely cheaper than PK. Great test. Curious of a glucose comparison.
Howdy, fellow cheesehead. Here's my ketchup recipe, if you'd like to try it out:

that was helpful! ty! we've tried a few here in Canada, and the non-keto family demand the heinz!😂
Heinz all the way for me. I make my sugar free cherry Dr Pepper BBQ sauce with it. So good
I needed this one. The one thing I don't pay enough attention to when I'm doing Keto is my ketchup. I just toss it on my burger
I think my homemade brand is my favorite, but I figured if I included it in this video, people would think my ego is getting the better of me. 😉
@@SeriousKeto Well I can understand that. But since I don’t like any of those other brands I think I’ll give it a try! Could be just what I’m looking for. Thanks Steve.😊
This will be good. I do make your ketcup all the time. 😃
I’ve tried the G. Hughes and it’s too watery/thin for me, and the Ketchup Please…I like the spicy one with shrimp and a little more heat added. I haven’t tried the other two yet. Thank you both!
I sampled the spicy Ketchup Please at their booth at the farmers market. Good stuff.
Been using G Hughes ketchup on ground beef for a while. Its not a real match for ketchup, but I do like the flavor. I mix the honey mustard 50/50 with melted butter for a dipping sauce for pork and chicken.
That sauce sounds yummy.
Nice father daughter vid 😌
Always grateful for all your tips👍🏻👍🏻🫶🏻
J Hughes makes a SS sauce as well but the Ketchup also has a little spice, I actually like it better than normal ketchup. It's definitely my number 1 by far but I also use almost all his products. I'm not sure what other Ketchups you guys have tried but the J Hughes taste more like most of the "custom" blends many restaurants have here in the south which I guess is what I have gotten use to over the years.
I switched my hubby (non-Keto) to the Heinz and he has never complained so that’s my taste test! 😂
I have used G Hughes. Has a stronger clove flavor. I buy the Heinz.
We use the Heinz no sugar added ketchup, but I really like the Hughes BBQ sauces.
I agree. The BBQ sauces are solid.
Thanks for this! No kidding, I was just looking for SF ketchup at HEB and did not purchase it as I wasn't sure which to pick (and Primal's too expensive). Im curious to know which beef dog you were eating. I love a great hot dog. ❤
I don't recall the brand and don't have the package. But we bought them at Aldi and they were labeled "uncured 100% angus beef".
The thin brand (G Hughes) basically makes BBQ sauces after a certain ethnic tradition.... Good but thinner than ketchup. While I like Heinz, I quit buying that brand years ago.
Your daughter nailed the "double dipping " style
The one you ranked 4 . I like his barbecue sauce
There are definitely some tasty BBQ sauces from G Hughes.
