    I just noticed that Sola’s website actually suggests that we freeze the bread shortly after receiving it and remove from the freezer as needed. Maybe this is the method they intend for us to use to prevent insulin spikes🤷🏽‍♀️.

      Freezing bread lowers the gluten

    • @jbeargrr
      @jbeargrr ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@sixpackbinky I don't think it has anything to do with the gluten. It's the starches that are (supposedly) made more resistant. Gluten is mostly protein, it's not the problem.

    • @jbeargrr
      @jbeargrr ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I may have watched this before, I remember the critter t-shirts. (I especially like the trash panda and the duck puppy.)
      I live out in the middle of nowhere, I only do major grocery shopping every 2 or 3 weeks. So I buy a lot of things in big bunches, and freeze them. So my keto breads are almost always frozen. I don't always toast it, but frequently, I do. That may be why I haven't noticed a big problem with it. I'm T2 diabetic, but I haven't tested the breads by themselves, just track my blood sugar in general, fasting and 2hrs post prandial. I don't remember the last time I ate any kind of breadlike substance by itself, it's always part of a meal. That's likely another reason I haven't had a big glucose response.

    This 100% mirrors my experience. I used to LOVE the sola bread and buns that came in the "grocery store" style packaging. Now my store only contains the new packaging. I could tell within an hour of eating it (both the bread and the buns) that I wasn't feeling "in keto" like I was with the old style. Having done keto for 4 years now I can usually tell when something knocks me out, and the new bread is a no go.

    I might consider keeping a loaf of this bread in my freezer, once I get to maintenance. Otherwise, I've just accepted bread is just one of those things I can't have. I love good bread, but it doesn't love me back... it's just isn't do-able. I move on, & have some bacon. Poor me.😂
    Thanks again for doing such in depth reviews, Steve. Hopefully you save a few folks from learning the hard way.

    • @roncenti

      Honestly.... Make your own. I went through TH-cam/Keto/bread and found KetoFusion. These breads are a little more work than I was used to but I have my goto loaf that I make every 2 weeks. Vital Wheat Gluten, Oat Fiber and Lupin Flour. The bread tastes like real bread even the crunchy surface and it toasts great. It's not white bread but I love it and it does not spike my BG. All you need is a mixer with a dough attachment.

      @@roncenti I bake for income. I'm always trying something new.
      I have yet to find a homemade bread recipe I like enough to bother making regularly.
      Thanks for the pointers, but I do a more strict version of Keto, so I don't use wheat products of any kind.
      I do have a jalapeño- cheese fathead bagel recipe & a Keto Chow air fryer biscuit I enjoy. They don't really qualify as a traditional "bread" in my mind, though.

    This is my favorite brand. I store it all in the freezer. They recently changed the look of the packaging (My Walmart carries the new look package now) Also they say the bread is now "Breadier" in the new look. The bagels are a once a week breakfast treat for me. They cost to much to eat every day anyways! Love your test videos.

    Sola is my favorite keto bread. A couple weeks ago our local Walmart had already transitioned to the new formulation (what you call the internet bread) and increased the price by almost $2 per loaf. With the price increase and a noticeable change in the ingredients I decided not to buy it at the time. As a type 2 diabetic and based on your testing, I'm going to have to go back to making Maria Emmerich's egg white bread. Question for you Steve, did you order most of the breads for the test from the Internet? In the 'Internet vs store' section of the video the red packaging is just the old packaging which is being replaced in stores by the packaging you referred to as Internet version. I was just at Meijer last night and they only had the newer packaging on the shelf. Not a red package to be seen. I was curious if it was just a packaging change or if they changed the ingredients. Looks like the answer is both.

    • @SeriousKeto
      @SeriousKeto  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Everything except the red packaged sweet oat bread was from the internet store. I bought the sweet oat bread at the grocery store less than a week ago. If Sola is changing the ingredients on the grocery store breads, that is disappointing.

      @@SeriousKeto Yeah it is definitely a bit disappointing based on the changes in the ingredients you talked about in your video. One good thing though, at least you did the review on the newer version. If you had reviewed mostly the red bag version then your video would have been irrelevant almost as soon as you released it. Here is another thought about the Store vs. Internet bread, in my local supermarket they freeze the bread. I know this because I've bought bread that has condensation inside the bag & it was cold. You've got to be careful that there is no mould. That's happened to me before. I got it home & brought it back to the store & they confirmed that it had been frozen. They restock the shelves with defrosted bread, but just barely... I'm not sure if the bread arrives frozen here to Hawaii, I didn't ask but it wouldn't surprise me. Just a thought.

    To compare, Sam's Club sells two loaves of Aunt Millie's Keto-white bread for about $7.50 while Sola costs $5.79 for a single loaf at the local Kroger's. Sola tastes much better IMO, and is worth the extra cost!

    This is a huge bummer. We keep some of this on hand to take with us when we go out for lunch or dinner, to have substituted for real buns or bread when we have burgers or whatever when eating out. The "internet" bread is what our stores carry here in Texas now, so we don't have a choice. Guess I'm going to have to be more careful about how often we do this, and/or go back to "burger salad". I guess the good news is we keep it in the freezer to have it on hand for these occasions, so maybe the glucose response is blunted a little bit.

    Sola's sweet & buttery is the BEST keto bread I've ever had, it's delicious! I also like the Alvarado St. Bakery freshly sprouted wheat sourdough bread I found at Safeway, it makes good toast. BTW, off topic, I love the designs on your tee shirts!

      I have been ordering Alvarado St. Bakery Flax Seed Bread for years now. They use to sell that bread at Trader Joe's, but they stopped selling it. The Alvarado St Bakery is costly for shipping, but it is worth it to me.

    Oh Sola has a new packaging! Seems new ingredient list too because the net carb count came down. However, I saw Erythritol in the ingredient list. I used to eat Sola bread because I stayed in ketosis with that but have since switched to Aldi Keto bread even though that bread kicked me out of ketosis. Aldi bread tastes most real bread like to me. Given your test results, Sola bread has definitely changed, I don’t have to think about going back to Sola then. Actually no bread for me right now as I’m doing KC twice a day and have been enjoying it. No real weight loss yet but I only started a few days. Thanks for the video! Edit: Wonder how the starch resistant test does after more than two plus hours.

    Often, specialty breads in the supermarket are shipped and stored frozen. Only when put out on the shelves do they start to defrost.

    The package change i think follows the update to the ingredients. I have purchased Sola breads for a long time, they started here in Texas, so it has been here for a while.
    I noticed a more pronounced yawn factor with the new bread formula. If after your meal within an hour you start yawning, thats a glucose increase. If you have a good keto meal, you typically don't get tired from it.

    • @SeriousKeto
      @SeriousKeto  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That new formula sure does make this taste and behave a lot closer to "real" bread.

      @@SeriousKeto I try to only use the keto breads about once a week. Otherwise its meats and veg for me. It is working so far.
      Very slowly now though. I had 50 years of terrible food addiction. It has been tough to break away from it and realize that food was never meant to be your sole source of enjoyment. It was mine. I didn't realize how much I attached my happiness to my food until I started trying to let go of it. I don't know what its like to be addicted to anything else, but wow is it hard to break this one. Still trying after 3 years.

    I think the internet bread is a newer formulation, as that bread is the bread that is being sold in my local Meijer store in Michigan for about the past month.

    • @SeriousKeto

      Bummer. The newer formulation tastes pretty much like real bread, though it the glucose increase is double to triple what the older version caused me.

    How can someone else say that your toaster doesn't make your bread toasted enough? "Toast" is subjective, some like it dark, some like it a medium color, and others like it light and consider medium as burnt.

      @@SeriousKeto thanks for explaining. That’s about a 50% improvement, so for people like myself -who are struggling to stay on ( an occasional piece of bread for a sandwich ) might mean the difference in being able to stay on it or not. I haven’t been able to master KetoUpgrades protein sparing bread yet. I’m about tired of trying. So this might be my solution. Thanks a million I love you guys. I say ex’tract instead of ex-tract’ too 😁. It’s such a nice thing to see you and your kids enjoying each others company. ❤️🙏🏻

    They changed the packaging, the store bought looks like same as your internet bread. I can't find the red packaging anymore. I use Carbonaut bread (blue bag) now but used to buy Sola, but I'm avoiding soy products due to inflammation and it's GMO soy. Sola has too many ingredients.

    I’m doing Keto for weight loss, getting amazing results but I just wish I had a good sandwich I can occasionally eat so I can diet more consistently. Will I be okay if I eat the Keto bacon burger, but that’s the only meal I eat that day ? Some advice would be appreciated! I’d die for a burger right now lol

    • @SeriousKeto
      @SeriousKeto  ปีที่แล้ว

      In my experience, all of these “keto” breads seem to stall weight loss (or even cause weight gain) even if they don’t spike glucose or knock a person out of ketosis. As such, I look at it as an occasional treat rather than a regular thing.

    Does anyone know if the $200 fee for the levels monitor is monthly? Or is it a one time fee and you just pay the $15 monthly service fee after that? I can't find a phone number to call them and the FAQ doesn't seem to have this info.

    Do you have to heat the bread after freezing? Or can you freeze the bread and then make an untoasted sandwich? Would that keep the glucose spike down?

    • @SeriousKeto
      @SeriousKeto  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have found out, both from a person at a bakery and a grocery store employee that ALMOST ALL bread is frozen for shipment and arrives at the grocery store frozen. I believe this throws much of the resistant starch methodology claims into doubt (at least a little).
