I appreciate how comprehensive your review was. As a type 2 diabetic, I am very careful about the processed keto products that I consume. Your reviews have helped me make more informed choices, and I am so grateful!
This 100% mirrors my experience. I used to LOVE the sola bread and buns that came in the "grocery store" style packaging. Now my store only contains the new packaging. I could tell within an hour of eating it (both the bread and the buns) that I wasn't feeling "in keto" like I was with the old style. Having done keto for 4 years now I can usually tell when something knocks me out, and the new bread is a no go.
The T-shirts! Made my morning! Danger Piñata, trash panda, duck puppy (lol). Danger noodle (I call it a nope rope) fart squirrel.bwahaha. Stab Rabbit. Murder log. I came for the bread. I stayed for the t’s. Thanks for the fun!
Man this bums me out. Sola used to not spike my blood glucose. Loved their bread for a while too. Had no idea they changed the formula when they changed the packaging. Had just told my wife I thought the buns tasted better than they used to. Thanks again for the video.
I can’t believe you put yourself thru more major CGM testing like that, but I love you for it! (Thank you) Very Interesting results, especially with the frozen products. 🤔
The biggest surprise to me is the different formulas for direct to consumer versus grocery stores. How many folks would dive into the ingredients after noticing a different glucose response. Fantastic research Steve! Thank you for being the canary in the carb mine for all of us.
Sola is my favorite keto bread. A couple weeks ago our local Walmart had already transitioned to the new formulation (what you call the internet bread) and increased the price by almost $2 per loaf. With the price increase and a noticeable change in the ingredients I decided not to buy it at the time. As a type 2 diabetic and based on your testing, I'm going to have to go back to making Maria Emmerich's egg white bread. Even though it tastes like Styrofoam, at least it doesn't affect my blood sugar. Thanks for testing this!
This is my favorite brand. I store it all in the freezer. They recently changed the look of the packaging (My Walmart carries the new look package now) Also they say the bread is now "Breadier" in the new look. The bagels are a once a week breakfast treat for me. They cost to much to eat every day anyways! Love your test videos.
I just hope they arent one of these companies that make a good product that gets great reviews only to change the formula to cash in at the expense of the customers in a bait and switch kind of way.
I just noticed that Sola’s website actually suggests that we freeze the bread shortly after receiving it and remove from the freezer as needed. Maybe this is the method they intend for us to use to prevent insulin spikes🤷🏽♀️.
@@sixpackbinky I don't think it has anything to do with the gluten. It's the starches that are (supposedly) made more resistant. Gluten is mostly protein, it's not the problem.
I may have watched this before, I remember the critter t-shirts. (I especially like the trash panda and the duck puppy.) I live out in the middle of nowhere, I only do major grocery shopping every 2 or 3 weeks. So I buy a lot of things in big bunches, and freeze them. So my keto breads are almost always frozen. I don't always toast it, but frequently, I do. That may be why I haven't noticed a big problem with it. I'm T2 diabetic, but I haven't tested the breads by themselves, just track my blood sugar in general, fasting and 2hrs post prandial. I don't remember the last time I ate any kind of breadlike substance by itself, it's always part of a meal. That's likely another reason I haven't had a big glucose response.
Thanks Steve for testing all types of breads for us. I eat it once in a while toasted only. I had a tuna sandwich on toasted bread and it was delicious. I try not to eat to much bread and I’m used to it now. Bread is too feeling. I make my hamburgers with lettuce, as a wrap.
Another thorough analysis, thanks for the great review Steve! I know this is your body and not mine…but your inner geek is very appreciated by my inner geek ❤
Wow, such a great thorough review! I see this bread all the time, but have yet to take the plunge since I'm still in the weight loss phase. Thanks so much for all you do!
An absolutely thorough review of Sola products. Really interesting results! I plan to try freezing the bread I like to see what effect that has on it! Thank you for the time and effort you put into thus video. No go work out and lose the pounds that you gained!😊
I might consider keeping a loaf of this bread in my freezer, once I get to maintenance. Otherwise, I've just accepted bread is just one of those things I can't have. I love good bread, but it doesn't love me back... it's just isn't do-able. I move on, & have some bacon. Poor me.😂 Thanks again for doing such in depth reviews, Steve. Hopefully you save a few folks from learning the hard way.
Honestly.... Make your own. I went through TH-cam/Keto/bread and found KetoFusion. These breads are a little more work than I was used to but I have my goto loaf that I make every 2 weeks. Vital Wheat Gluten, Oat Fiber and Lupin Flour. The bread tastes like real bread even the crunchy surface and it toasts great. It's not white bread but I love it and it does not spike my BG. All you need is a mixer with a dough attachment.
@@roncenti I bake for income. I'm always trying something new. I have yet to find a homemade bread recipe I like enough to bother making regularly. So glad you're testing this stuff Steve. I love the Sola bread but I think it's knocking me out of Keto. I've made grilled cheese with Sola and it's perfect. The Sweet and Buttery tastes really darn close to regular bread.
Very interesting, I really enjoy these reviews and appreciate the time and effort you put into them. I don't eat many keto products but like seeing what's out there. 🤔🙂
Your videos put me on to Sola. Before I was overpaying for breads that didn't perform as well in your tests. After making the which, I'm saving money and feeling better. Sola tastes great also.
Thank you for I taking so much time to test these bread products. I prefer the grocery store sweet and buttery sola bread. I eat it when I have a sugar craving... gets me through it. Again, THANK YOU for taking the time to test the breads!
Soo appreciate you testing all these products. Summer is coming and who wouldn’t love buns…………? Me for sure but it just doesn’t seem worth it. Not even factoring in cost. Super appreciate the comparison of the different varieties.

Thanks for taking the bullet for us Steve. I will be sticking with my Kroger Lettuce Boats for my sandwiches. If there is any bread that you have found that is safe for Keto, please do a video on it. I have seen most all your videos and I don't recall so far, any specific that you have given a solid recommendation.
I don't understand why they have different ingredients for the on-line vs store bought bread under the same name... Thank you, Steve for all of your testing and research that the vast majority cannot do!
Please review/test Thin Slim Foods bagels. If you’ve already done so, what is the link to your video please? I’ve been subscribed to your channel for 3 years now. Hands down, yours is my favorite keto content channel. Thank you for all your recipes and reviews.
The package change i think follows the update to the ingredients. I have purchased Sola breads for a long time, they started here in Texas, so it has been here for a while. I noticed a more pronounced yawn factor with the new bread formula. If after your meal within an hour you start yawning, thats a glucose increase. If you have a good keto meal, you typically don't get tired from it.
@@SeriousKeto I try to only use the keto breads about once a week. Otherwise its meats and veg for me. It is working so far. Very slowly now though. I had 50 years of terrible food addiction. It has been tough to break away from it and realize that food was never meant to be your sole source of enjoyment. It was mine. I didn't realize how much I attached my happiness to my food until I started trying to let go of it. I don't know what its like to be addicted to anything else, but wow is it hard to break this one. Still trying after 3 years.
I usually stick with whole food ketovore when I'm on the wagon. But this review got me. I really started thinking about buttered bread, brats and Reubens. Then, the grocery store had Sola for $6.50, but buy one, get one free. Froze one "Sweet and Buttery", eating the other. Brats and buttered bread have been delicious and in no way a compromise. Unfortunately, the "Internet" ingredients and portions are now the grocery store ingredients (probably old news). I don't care. Not for this occasional splurge. This is better than the occasional "real bread" brats, where I cannot resist everything else (beer!). I'm not carb-addicted as some people seem to be, but I'm not incorruptible either. Thank you for this helpful review. Even if Sola isn't perfect ingredient- and blood sugar-wise, eaten with other foods, it tastes and feels perfect.
Thanks for this video. I really appreciate you putting yourself on the line to provide us the info on how this bread affects you. I am going to see if I can find it and see if it will work for me. Appreciate you!
I appreciate the tests. Its super helpful whenever these companies change up their recipes to make a follow up test. Im hoping youd do a follow up test on carbonaut, because i believe they may have updated their ingredients. Also i have been trying the gluten free white bread from Carbonaut and am not sure if its good. it seems too good to be true though.
💜🥰🤩🤗 I was finally able to find Sola buns in one of my stores. The hamburger buns I found were plain, but based on your tests, I can't see there being much difference, too bad. I am glad I haven't bought any yet. WOW, I can't believe the difference between frozen and not!!!
Great video Steve - Thanks for all you do with using yourself as a Guinea Pig for product testing. I realize the results are very individual; however, the data is really good for people considering the product(s).
I'm 74, and I enjoy the flavor of Sola bread even if it spikes my blood sugar, but it's far less of a spike and has fewer carbs than regular bread! The 5-seed tastes amazing toasted with butter and almond butter too and it's great for sandwiches. To compare, Sam's Club sells two loaves of Aunt Millie's Keto-white bread for about $7.50 while Sola costs $5.79 for a single loaf at the local Kroger's. Sola tastes much better IMO, and is worth the extra cost!
Sola's sweet & buttery is the BEST keto bread I've ever had, it's delicious! I also like the Alvarado St. Bakery freshly sprouted wheat sourdough bread I found at Safeway, it makes good toast. BTW, off topic, I love the designs on your tee shirts!
I have been ordering Alvarado St. Bakery Flax Seed Bread for years now. They use to sell that bread at Trader Joe's, but they stopped selling it. The Alvarado St Bakery is costly for shipping, but it is worth it to me.
Thank you so much. I was hoping you would do this text on the sola bread. I’ve been eating a lot of it lately and wondering, Is it all that???? So excited you did this.
I like the sola bread, but Steve thank you for doing these reviews, i am not too worried about a glucose spike if i have it as i dont do it every day. I used to eat pasta and almost every day. You have to do what works for you. But if im going to have bread, ihave found this brand the best of a low carb bread. But again, everyone has to see what works for them.
Oh Sola has a new packaging! Seems new ingredient list too because the net carb count came down. However, I saw Erythritol in the ingredient list. I used to eat Sola bread because I stayed in ketosis with that but have since switched to Aldi Keto bread even though that bread kicked me out of ketosis. Aldi bread tastes most real bread like to me. Given your test results, Sola bread has definitely changed, I don’t have to think about going back to Sola then. Actually no bread for me right now as I’m doing KC twice a day and have been enjoying it. No real weight loss yet but I only started a few days. Thanks for the video! Edit: Wonder how the starch resistant test does after more than two plus hours.
They have the new version at my Walmart I used to eat the old version but didn't really like the taste but I will definitely purchase it again to see the difference 😊
I was tired when I saw this video title and misread it as "Massive Ebola Review". My initial thought was, "Well crap, now Ebola is going to be the next weight loss craze?!?" It would work, I guess.
Bread is my downfall. It’s the food I love most. But it contributed to my becoming pre diabetic. I think even keto bread might be triggering for me, so I’d better stay away from it. Thanks for these experiments.
I am trying to catch up on my SK videos and started with this one. Thank you for being our rational guinea C saving us from food propaganda. Your experiments are priceless! I think it's time for me to do the CGM thing. I have 2 questions: 1) Did you need a prescription for the device? & 2) What is the level of intrusiveness on the software (i.e. does your data belong to the developer)? You're the best, Steve!
Here is another thought about the Store vs. Internet bread, in my local supermarket they freeze the bread. I know this because I've bought bread that has condensation inside the bag & it was cold. You've got to be careful that there is no mould. That's happened to me before. I got it home & brought it back to the store & they confirmed that it had been frozen. They restock the shelves with defrosted bread, but just barely... I'm not sure if the bread arrives frozen here to Hawaii, I didn't ask but it wouldn't surprise me. Just a thought.
doing the lord's work my man, I didn't even know there was a difference between the internet/store. So the store version was the better one in terms of glucose response?
Stab Rabbit! I love it! That is hilarious! Thanks for the great video too, most excellent! Love your channel! I'm Subscribed! French-fried! Entertain-ified! Thankful-ified! And dang Glad-ified! I found your channel! 😂
Question for you Steve, did you order most of the breads for the test from the Internet? In the 'Internet vs store' section of the video the red packaging is just the old packaging which is being replaced in stores by the packaging you referred to as Internet version. I was just at Meijer last night and they only had the newer packaging on the shelf. Not a red package to be seen. I was curious if it was just a packaging change or if they changed the ingredients. Looks like the answer is both.
Everything except the red packaged sweet oat bread was from the internet store. I bought the sweet oat bread at the grocery store less than a week ago. If Sola is changing the ingredients on the grocery store breads, that is disappointing.
@@SeriousKeto Yeah it is definitely a bit disappointing based on the changes in the ingredients you talked about in your video. One good thing though, at least you did the review on the newer version. If you had reviewed mostly the red bag version then your video would have been irrelevant almost as soon as you released it. (That's assuming I'm correct that the red bag is at end of life.)
Super frusterating. I just finished you doing Aldi vs Sola bread review and Sola was perfect...now it's all over the place. EDIT: HA i posted this to early, you covered this in the end and I apprecaite that! You rock.
I am diabetic and use the Supermarket version. I am now worried that they may change that to the internet blend so I will have to keep a close eye on the ingredients every time I buy now.
Didn't notice any focus issue, I was more interested in the t-shirts, had me confused when you wore gray every day 😋 I would mind a good bagel, probably only eat half
Coming from another geeky spreadsheet person, bravo!! What bread do you like the best? It seems that the sweet oat has the best glucose response, is that how you see it?
Thank you for all the research you do to present such helpful info. I have watched a fai amount of your videoed but can you either provide me or direct me to your recommendations for the best bread and tortilla options that you have found with regards to taste and and lower glucose response ? I would just love to see”Jeff’s favorites list” thank you kindly!
This makes me wonder how bad the Aldi "Keto" bread products are spiking me. The newer formulations of the keto white bread, the buns, bagels and the dinner rolls. (Most are seasonal or holiday availability only). Could it be that the Sola products are simply new formulations/packaging, and not necessarily internet only? Thanks for doing all these tests.
I think the internet bread is a newer formulation, as that bread is the bread that is being sold in my local Meijer store in Michigan for about the past month.
On a whim, cuz I like toast with my coffee in the morning, I tried the flaxseed & psyllium bread. It got dark, like pumpernickel, but I liked it. And it didn't spike me like my beloved Sola did😢. Bonus, it keeps one regular IYKWIM
I wonder if freezing the bread gives a glucose spike benefit to breads that should be stored frozen like 1 carb Carbonaut? Also I'd love if you could test that specific bread. I know you tested the 2 carb version (only available online as far as I can tell, and doesn't need to be frozen), but the 1 carb version actually has different ingredients.
My supermarket (Jewel) now only keeps the sola bread in the freezer.. any chance your supermarket bread was previously frozen, hence why you had the better response?
Well, .. My husband and I have been buying Sweet & Buttery Sola as our 'secret' bread. We've even been selfish and haven't told too many people about it because our store already seems to run out of it too often. We love it! But I have recently started KETO 'again'... and have realized I need to cut down. So, Okay. Thanks for your excellent videos.

WOW, I can't believe the difference between frozen and not!!!
You'll have to let me know what you think of it.
@@SeriousKeto I will when I get some. I usually freeze my bread anyway, since I'm the only ketoer in my family.
Great video Steve - Thanks for all you do with using yourself as a Guinea Pig for product testing. I realize the results are very individual; however, the data is really good for people considering the product(s).
Thanks for the review, Steve! By the way, kiss my keto has three new me flavors that would make for a good review 😊
Thanks for the indepth review. 😊
Really interesting review. I am one of those total carbs but always find it interesting
You're awesome, the data is super useful . . . but today I was particularly loving the T shirts 😁
Outstanding job. My Walmart now has the new Yellow pac bread only ? Always freeze it and will check my numbers .Thanks Steve
Love the tee shirts, Steve 😂
Sola's sweet & buttery is the BEST keto bread I've ever had, it's delicious! I also like the Alvarado St. Bakery freshly sprouted wheat sourdough bread I found at Safeway, it makes good toast. BTW, off topic, I love the designs on your tee shirts!
I have been ordering Alvarado St. Bakery Flax Seed Bread for years now. They use to sell that bread at Trader Joe's, but they stopped selling it. The Alvarado St Bakery is costly for shipping, but it is worth it to me.
Wow, I wouldn't have expected there to be so much difference in the products based on where you purchased it....
Thank you so much. I was hoping you would do this text on the sola bread. I’ve been eating a lot of it lately and wondering, Is it all that???? So excited you did this.
Love the T-shirts. Thanks for the review. Helpful.
Yeah looking at the ingredients I will stay away and use ketobakes occasionally. I have started counting total carbs instead of net. Great review
This was so helpful! Thank you. I really appreciate how you presented the information.
I was tired when I saw this video title and misread it as "Massive Ebola Review". My initial thought was, "Well crap, now Ebola is going to be the next weight loss craze?!?" It would work, I guess.
😂
Would you be able to test The Better Bagel? They have fewer carbs than Sola. I am interested in your thoughts on this keto bagel.
Bread is my downfall. It’s the food I love most. But it contributed to my becoming pre diabetic. I think even keto bread might be triggering for me, so I’d better stay away from it. Thanks for these experiments.
And this new formulation that Sola is using definitely tastes like "real" bread, so I could see that being a slippery slope for some people.
Yeah. It is for me, big time. One "keto" hot dog bun spiked my glucose 40 points. Definitely a slippery slope.
Me too. I'm working on reconciling myself to NOT chasing subs for all the things that brought me undone in the first place.
@@LoreleiLee53 If you use the Levels link in the description, they provide the prescription. I don't have the answer to your question on data.
Certainly a possibility
Will you try some paleo products like Pacha bread and seven Sundays cereal?
We’ve eaten Sola bread for 2 years. Love it. Cheaper 2 pack at Costco.
My Costco only carries Natural Ovens brand, which I've reviewed and recall that it spiked my glucose. I wish mine had Sola
doing the lord's work my man, I didn't even know there was a difference between the internet/store. So the store version was the better one in terms of glucose response?
Correct, though I'm under the impression that the "internet" version is starting to replace the "store" version in stores.
You rock.
I’m just here for the shirts.
Just kidding i’m here for the keto.
But mostly for the shirts.
I love this bread!! The French toast can use more cinnamon flavor. 😊
Coming from another geeky spreadsheet person, bravo!! What bread do you like the best? It seems that the sweet oat has the best glucose response, is that how you see it?
Probably the sweet oat.
Who is Jeff?
@@SeriousKeto sorry typo I meant your favorites:)
That's a great suggestion for a future video. Probably not until May, though...
Excellent video! Thanks.
Thanks Steve
Another great video. Unbelievabuns sill win. Need that sandwich bread.
Agreed 💯
This makes me wonder how bad the Aldi "Keto" bread products are spiking me. The newer formulations of the keto white bread, the buns, bagels and the dinner rolls. (Most are seasonal or holiday availability only). Could it be that the Sola products are simply new formulations/packaging, and not necessarily internet only? Thanks for doing all these tests.
Thank you for testing Sola bread, so that I know whether to buy or Not!
I think the internet bread is a newer formulation, as that bread is the bread that is being sold in my local Meijer store in Michigan for about the past month.
Bummer. The newer formulation tastes pretty much like real bread, though it the glucose increase is double to triple what the older version caused me.
Soy made this go out the window for me but I’m glad that you did the video.
