Just play the game. After the last few patches, it's one of the best RPGs I've ever played, and there are a lot of easter eggs from the anime in this game. And you have the chance to take revenge for David's death. You can actually fight David's killer, Adam Smasher.
This song was always in the game and when I heard it on the radio then I didn't think much of it but watching the anime put tons of emotional attachment to it.
'the animes okay but the ending is amazing' 'maybe i was to harsh on edge runners a lot happens' 'this anime is beautiful and horrible i love it! im gunna get my wife to watch it' 'fuck this anime! i hate this fucking anime! i take it all back!' 'im gunna rewatch this' lmfao whats funny this is the exact reaction we all expected XD
I loved this anime. Got me so attached to these characters in such a short time, then was absolutely brutal to them. Especially Rebecca. Rebecca deserved better.
You should watch the Cyberpunk Edgerunners "Let You Down" MV as well. that one has original animation that provides a small prequel story to Edgerunners.
I'm trying really hard to promote *Pluto* right now. it doesn't really have an OP or ED that'd make for good reaction material, and that means there won't be a way to sort of like... build up hype? for it? but I watched all 8 episodes in one night, because the story was that addictive. I'm not surprised, it's Naoki Urasawa's writing, I haven't read anything by him that wasn't fantastic, but Pluto is also gorgeously animated, and the OST does go absolutely the hardest... but only in context. like, there's a track called "Cherished Memories" which I adore, but you _have_ to hear it in context first, like, I wouldn't even recommend it for a reaction video. go in blind, I promise, you'll know what I mean by the end of episode one. the story is everything when it comes to that track... and once you know it, it's so stunningly well conveyed through the music. so like... Pluto has good music, and it's a transcendently good production, but I can't recommend it in a normal way. each episode is 1 hour long, but there are only 8. it's a self contained story, and everything about it is completely satisfying... I think if you get the chance to watch it, you'll love it.
Appreciated that there's more people like us, who cry at this music video 😆 If you rewatch this series on sub with your wife, then it will surely be a ride, because David's voice actor did an amazing job, he sounds like a teenager-close to 20s. While Lucy sounds a little bit more soft/caring towards David😸
Like that 1 time I took out the cybercycle and as I was finishing up the conversation with the fixer. I know the stuff of the right side of my headphones. The lyrics to the song playing from some random building in the game world.
I honestly forgot how devastating this anime was... Just listening to the song I went through an emotional rollcoaster! T-T It´s a phenomenal anime, so bittersweet... I wouldn´t call it one of my favorite anime, but it´s one of the most impactful in recent years to me. This anime revived what it means to be punk to me.
Cyberpunk is such an amazing experience. To the cyberpunk 2020 tabletop that came out decades ago, to cyberpunk 2077, and cyberpunk edgerunners. What an amazing series.
You are now making yourself cry. Brilliant! Your wife should love this show. BTW, Mike Pondsmith, the creator of the Cyperpunk RPG and the universe is from Santa Cruz, CA. So he would be consider one of my local peeps.
There is a Spanish TH-camr called Jwulen who has a video with 2 million views about 30 details of this anime and after watching them the series hits you a hundred times more highly recommended...😢
I had kind of a similar feeling about Edgerunners... I didn't hate it, but Trigger as a studio has a lot of chaos in their productions. it's kind of their signature. and while some of that chaos definitely added to the world building, I think some of it translated into really frenetic pacing, especially in the beginning. it ironically made it harder for me to get attached to the characters initially... for a bit there, David was the only one I could really say I felt anything for. but that's kind of okay, because it is his story. I think Edgerunners really conveys it's world building message, about how this city breaks people all the time, and unless you're independently wealthy, there aren't really any protections against it, as we see with David's mom. a lot of people end up having to layer on augmentation after augmentation just to make themselves a little more survivable... it makes the city feel almost hostile to human life, like everyone here was born into a world that never wanted them to live a life in the first place. and the irony of these augmentations, is that even when the people here wear it like armor, it'll eventually turn on them and try to kill them too. at the end of it all, when you remember how David started out, there's the tragedy of losing that version of him... but there's also the realization that the kid in that memory could never have survived here. he had to change, and there was never going to be enough armor to make him feel safe enough, or strong enough, and it was always going to kill him in the end. the tragedy is enhanced by the notion that David deserved to be born into a better world than this, because in this one, there was nothing anyone could do to protect him.
Need to finish it so I was more listening. Played 2077, got the jacket so pretty sure how it's gonna go. Anime that do this! Me, it's Gunbuster: Aim for the Top and it's tonal whiplash of the day, everyday. 6 episodes from sports rivalry, to grief, to gritty war drama, to duty, to desperation and for 25 years that ending tears me up everytime. Other stuff, the romcom tearjerkers Clannad & Kanon. I suspect by now you've watched more Code Geass. You know the one. Reading the comments, seconding Anohana and Angel Beats. The FSN VN did this several times.
Gotta love how your own personal character arc over the course of this react video mimmics the arc of the Edgerunners anime itself lol. Pretty easy going and chill at first, ends up in total heartbreak and cussing it out for being so good yet so hurtful at the same time xD Definitely watch it in sub too, it's great with the voice acting.
I was exactly the same. The trigger for me realising what a good show it was was hearing the song on the radio in game. I think when you first watch it the emotions at the end are a bit overwhelming so you don't truly appreciate it, but once you realise what a lasting effect it has on you, you truly appreciate it.
I'd say a few shows broke me were Plastic Memories and Violet Evergarden. Plastic Memories you knew what the end holds and the last 10 minutes broke me the entire way through those 10 minutes.
Cyberpunk Edgerunners, an emotional rollercoaster of giving you someone you genuinely want the best outcome for and helplessly watching them succumb to their addictions and vices.
when you rewatch it again, i know you'll call it a masterpiece, dont forget moments like when David lost his mom, lost Maine, and being burden by people's dream on him and he feels he always failed them, in the end, he doesnt wanna lose anyone else and let his life dedicated to Lucy's dream
CD Projekred actually hired bands to make a lot of the music they put into the game like this one. This song just hits different after watching Edgerunners.
If you also happen to play the game...now after every mission, there will be only one mission left which called 'I really want to stay at your house'. In this mission, you can ask your partner to come over any house you own in the city's and you can dance with this song. It supposed to be a romantic moment or even funny if the partner is not good at dancing, but only thing I want to do when the song start is cry. It still hit me as hard as the first time finished the anime. Before the anime, I often hear this song in the game and just think it is a good song. Now I can't...everyone I hear this song, I can not control my tears and need to change radio stations...
Besides Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, few other anime that hit me right in the guts with THE FEELS were: The World God Only Knows, Kiznaiver, Angel Beats and Kimi ga Nozomu Eien (tv series - 2003)
Some anime do certain things better, but Cyberpunk is the most gut-wrenching media I've seen in years. Absolutely tragic and masterful storytelling that never cheats.
I was in the same boat, thought the anime was ok until I heard the song again and I had this whole flashback of the entire show and it just clicked, and all of a sudden the whole show as a single entity made sense. For some reason this anime has to click into place to understand it all from the first min to the last.
Let's Eat Grandma (the band who recorded this track of which Rosa Walton is a part) is pretty awesome. You'll like "Happy New Year" from their album Two Ribbons (it has a MV). Love to see your reaction to that.
I feel like this is a good time to throw a recommendation that's certainly got the feel heavy core. Angel beats! it is a heavy rollercoaster of emotional understanding yet still having its fun goofy moments, but most of all its the music that hits like a truck after having the full context of the show.
Edgerunner has such an incredible variety of allusions that you are only perceived as a commodity. The environmental pollution, that everyone is interchangeable. But also that the big corporations control everything. How important it is to stick together, but also the problems with addiction and depression. There is so much in it! And also the dreams of finally escaping this city and much more. The ending is so hard that it's really emotionally shattering...But there's much more to come. When you play the game, the game and the series take on an additional depth. Since a story after David was built in, I don't think much. But the game and the series are connected on so many levels that I think the whole Cyberpunk 77 universe is unique. When you play the game you see the anime story differently, when you watch the series you see the game differently - it's mindblowing. And I don't yet know what to expect from the DLC.
your reaction is priceless. If you got so emotional about Edgerunner, I really truly recommend that you should play cyberpunk. Trust me, the story is almost the same level with the anime and the new DLC is at a different level.
As for a emotional rollercoaster anime I think one of the best animes of all time in that regard is Clannad it's two seasons and definitely an older anime like early 2000s art style but there are no people who have seen all of it that will say it's a bad anime. If you wanted something to get a taste of it listen to one of the ending songs called Toki wo Kizamu Uta.
I've been watching anime a very long time. You'll find, as time and sheer volume of series blurrs your memories and your tastes shifts that shows you thought were amazing barely get a rise out of you and stuff you thought just kinda moved you can now do what this song did to you. It's cool to reconsider your opinions, any show that drives you to joy or tears with one song or a short clip should become a treasured memory of your journey through the hobby.
After seeing your reaction to this, it *really* makes me wanna get the Patreon so I can watch your Made In Abyss reactions, haha. As for recommendations, it's not at all like this show, but I can never stop recommending it: Ascendance of a Bookworm. The light novels are like something out of Edgerunners or AoT in terms of strong storytelling & character development, so I can assure you that the anime will go on to be ridiculously good; however, the vibes are vastly different. It's a wholesome, slice of life that comes with gut-wrenching emotional weight out of nowhere. And it was announced recently that WIT Studio (of AoT fame) is taking over from season 4 & onwards which is where the story really starts to kick off a bit more.
In Cyberpunk 2077 you can climb to same roof where Lucy and David were looking at the moon and you can play radio channel where this song often comes from
Listen to all of the alan wake 2 songs. The songs are really good. They got best soundtrack for 2023 at the game of the year awards. And one of the songs hit 10th on global charts. They even performed live at the 2023 Game Awards.
The game has such a great soundtrack. Happy the anime was able to shine light on a tiny part of it, but there is so many more songs from that game that are amazing. Not to mention the ones Phantom Liberty added. Honestly one of my favorite soundtracks for a game ever. Anyway, an anime that left me feeling really sad like Edgerunners at the end, was Annohana. Might be a bit basic of me for saying that, but that one really got me.
The story of Edgerunners is very similar in tone to the game both are stories that don't really have "good" endings, but the story it tells is so real and hits like a truck.
An anime I feel is kinda similar to Cyberpunk in terms of setting and phenomenally good ending (I'm not gonna spoil anything) is Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song. That shit hits and hits HARD, but in a different way to Cyberpunk. Not quite as depressing.
I am New here but really loved the reaction. I will have rewatch edgerunner now.😅 Really loved Your Overlord video.❤ I will also like to suggest "Talentless Nana" and "Chivalry of the failed knight" opening and ending.
Please check out the "Phantom Liberty" song by Dawid Podsiadło from the expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 with the same name. It plays during the after credits of the expansion and it oozes James Bond vibes! The outro song "Let You Down" for the anime is another one you should check out it's the one that plays at the end of each episode and it's also sung by Dawid Podsiadło.
You should try to record her reaction if that’s something you and her would be ok with. I love seeing people’s reactions to anime’s like this that leave an impression on people
You should watch the animated video of the ending theme "Let You Down - by Dawid Podsiadło" if you haven't already. It's well made, and add some context on the crew's background, especially the netrunner before Kiwi and Lucy, and also what pushed Maine to overchrome himself, in order to not lose another crew member :)
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is the one of the very few love hate relation i think ive had with anime. I absolutely love it to my bones, but i break down everytime i hear this and for that, i hate it. I don't know how this managed to make me so interested in just 10 episodes man. The ending has made me go on whole philosophical dilemmas before bed. This definitely deserved that Anime of the year 2022 award even though there were other worthy contenders.
oooohh if your gonna do more Cyberpunk songs can you please do major crimes by HEALTH it's definitely my favorite in Edgerunners! Also Who's Ready for Tomorow by Rat Boy is really good and fun! Also kinda surprised you thought the final ep was the best. I mean don't get me wrong I agree that the episode is amazing and one of the best endings of anime, but I don't think it's my favorite episode of the anime. For me it's definitely episode 6! That episode was just so good all the way through and the end of it was amazing and so sad! That's also definitely when David starts going downhill. The episode that solidified this show as one of my favorite anime!
Favorite radio song from the game. It was perfect for chillilng at nighttime in Night City. Very moody/ambiant. Then you watch the show. the "it *WAS* perfect" is at past tense for a reason :p.
07:35 Speaking of shows that you need to watch twice to appreciate, Your Name is number one. This movie will finally blow your mind when you watch it the second time. And you'll understand why it's the number 1 anime movie in many websites.
3:53 Unfortunately, the subbed ver for Cyberpunk Edgerunners only has the dub dialogue for the official subs on Netflix. Since it's based on a western-series the dub was to fit for the western side, while the subbed ver is more like a localized ver to fit for Japanese audiences. Regardless of that I watched it in sub, it was phenomenal even though the translations didn't hold up much.
Listening to an English cover of "Kamado Tanjiro no Uta" has a similar impact after you have watched episode 19 of Demon Slayer. It hits different hearing the lyrics while knowing what is happening during the scene it is played. Maybe you can listen to an English cover of the song when you get back from your travels.
The amount of times you talk about your wife really makes me think think it would be awesome if you two would react to an anime together on this channel 😁😁

Akudama Drive
It's what we call a romantic tragedy. It's suppose to be like that.

can i touch you
IKR - I'm drivin' a stolen car, and this song comes on, and now El Capitan is bitching at me about tear stains on the seats...
I think it was still my favorite song in the game before the anime.
Yeah, they just amped up the frequency it comes on in an update.
I've never played the game but wow I imagine after the anime it hits so different
'the animes okay but the ending is amazing'
'maybe i was to harsh on edge runners a lot happens'
'this anime is beautiful and horrible i love it! im gunna get my wife to watch it'
'fuck this anime! i hate this fucking anime! i take it all back!'
'im gunna rewatch this'

Absolutely heartbreaking in context. So amazing.

You know an OP/ED/OST is good when it makes you second-guess your own experience with the show it's attached to

I loved this anime. Got me so attached to these characters in such a short time, then was absolutely brutal to them. Especially Rebecca. Rebecca deserved better.
That's Nightcity for you.
So true 😭

The anime that devastated me the most was Your Lie in April. Other emotional anime that come to mind are Angel Beats and Anohana.

The environmental pollution, that everyone is interchangeable. your reaction is priceless. If you got so emotional about Edgerunner, I really truly recommend that you should play cyberpunk. Trust me, the story is almost the same level with the anime and the new DLC is at a different level.

man I developed a complexe from this ost and the parasyte one (called "next to you") ... it automatically puts me in deppresion mode
03:28 Look at that smile.
08:28 Look at those tears.
This was my 3rd most played song on Spotify this year
I think the meme regarding this song as before Edgerunners and after is always good.
Clannad is an anime that will absolutely tear your heart out
An anime I feel is kinda similar to Cyberpunk in terms of setting and phenomenally good ending (I'm not gonna spoil anything) is Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song. That shit hits and hits HARD, but in a different way to Cyberpunk. Not quite as depressing.
Hahaha the tears 😂 I feel you bro
I am New here but really loved the reaction.
I will have rewatch edgerunner now.😅
Really loved Your Overlord video.❤
I will also like to suggest "Talentless Nana" and "Chivalry of the failed knight" opening and ending.
Man I thought I was over this anime, guess I was wrong, just one time watching this MV and I'm broken all over again. Would watch it again 100%.
😂😭💯
Cyberpunk edgerunners is 10/10 anime! But if you haven't played the game Cyberpunk 2077, I think people don't get that. Or at least that easily!
This song is on par with the 86 OST that makes me emotional just listening to it.
💯
Please check out the "Phantom Liberty" song by Dawid Podsiadło from the expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 with the same name.
It plays during the after credits of the expansion and it oozes James Bond vibes!
The outro song "Let You Down" for the anime is another one you should check out it's the one that plays at the end of each episode and it's also sung by Dawid Podsiadło.
Oh okay! Appreciate the recommendations!
God this song makes me so sadge
Me crying to EdgeRunners for the freaking million time 🥲
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is the one of the very few love hate relation i think ive had with anime.
Don’t stress bro I’m right there with you
This song reminds me of depression but i love it
3:53 Unfortunately, the subbed ver for Cyberpunk Edgerunners only has the dub dialogue for the official subs on Netflix. Since it's based on a western-series the dub was to fit for the western side, while the subbed ver is more like a localized ver to fit for Japanese audiences. Regardless of that I watched it in sub, it was phenomenal even though the translations didn't hold up much.
Such an amazing song really love it
Guys when are we having the pitchfork meeting 👀
ok no pitchwork meeting we good
i started crying at this so hard it hits me in the feels s hard
Yeah this song hits hard in the feels for me too Luke! 😭
should react to let you down from cyberpunk too
Listening to an English cover of "Kamado Tanjiro no Uta" has a similar impact after you have watched episode 19 of Demon Slayer. It hits different hearing the lyrics while knowing what is happening during the scene it is played. Maybe you can listen to an English cover of the song when you get back from your travels.
Finally after all this time!!!
Angel Beats. Although a very different kind of anime, also hit me hard like this one.
Everyone that watched edgerunners to the end, has this one weakness 😭
To Your Eternity is an anime that broke me in almost every single episode lol
The amount of times you talk about your wife really makes me think think it would be awesome if you two would react to an anime together on this channel 😁😁
The thing is she doesn't click with the camera.
She feels uncomfortable, I do try 😂 maybe one day!
I think for me, Your Lie In April was the one that hit me most similar to what's going on here.
"Look mom... I’m here... very top of Arasaka tower"
